Do not hire this company. I would never ever recommend them. The owner cursed out my husband on the phone and they did not correct their mistakes and refused to refund us money. What happened to "the customer is always right"??? We had to live with their shoddy workmanship and then had to pay to redo it with another company. I would not recommend using this company. In my mind 3 strikes against them. First, I was charged additional money for something I thought was included in the original discussion & quote. While annoyed, I agreed, because I wanted to maintain the relationship since the work was guaranteed for two years. However, soon after the work was completed, I noticed an issue & called requesting they come to inspect & correct. They never showed up! A few months later I noticed a loose paver which I felt caused a tripping hazard. called again. This time I was more persistent & called many times. Again, all I received were promises but again they never showed for the repair. So much for a two-year guarantee. Totally useless if they just refuse to come. Both my issues were relatively small. I was able to get them repaired by other means. Just really felt that this company gave me a run-around and did not live up to their promises. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Went into contract with this so called company to have our driveway done and submitted the initial payment as required, locked in price last year, after several delays with scheduling - all of which they are conveniently trying to blame on us- and after finally putting us on the schedule he then hits us (2 business days prior to commencement of work) with an almost $3000 upcharge.....No effing way am I agreeing to this egregious upcharge......PS driveway still not done he has yet to return our call and passes the buck to his secretary. Flavio and team did a fantastic job with the demolition, redoing our driveway, installing a storm water retention system, installing a new walkway, repairing two sets of steps and back patio, and landscaping. Not everything was easy and smooth about the project but they made it seem that way. The pricing was fair, materials were high quality and the work was done to the highest standards. Flavio and Cathy were communicative, reachable, had great recommendations, worked well with the Town and our other contractors, recommend a quality contractor for iron work, and completed work timely and on budget. They earned our business and trust and we will gladly call them first when we start future projects. read more

I hired Flavio La Rocca and Sons to build a retaining wall, renovate a deck and replace a wood patio. I had a terrible experience and do not recommend them. The trouble started when they removed the existing wood patio and Flavio (the owner) suggested that I replace it with brick pavers. When I asked how much he would deduct on my final payment for not having to rebuild the wood patio, he would only credit me for material and labor. Since the cost for rebuilding the wood patio was part of his quote for the entire job, he basically wanted me to pay his profit for the wood patio he didn't have to do. When I told him that it was unreasonable for me to pay his profit on both the pavers and wood patios, he became outraged, quit the job and removed his name from my permit. In response, I told him to forget about the pavers and just finish the wood patio per our agreement. He refused, demanded that I pay him his full profit for the entire job plus a cancellation fee and repeatedly threatened to sue me. He was so unreasonable and confrontational that I paid what he wanted just to get rid of him. Although I had a great case for breach of contract, I didn't bother suing because the time, expense and inconvenience wasn't worth it. Now I have a large, unsightly area of bare ground where my wood patio once was, yet Flavio ended up with more money than if he had finished the job. I felt ripped off, but I was glad that I no longer had to deal with him. I found some interesting law suits between La Rocca and his previous customers at the White Plains Clerk's office, so this guy has quite a track record. Also, I suggest you check out what kind of character he is by Googling the phrase "who is Flavio La Rocca". Read the articles by New Rochelle Talk of the Town that expose how he tried to misappropriate public property for his own use. Had I read these articles before hiring him, I could have avoided a lot of aggravation by getting a different contractor. read more

In my opinion, this business' customer service could be greatly improved. We received an estimate for repaving of our driveway, but the actual job turned out to cost more because once they broke up the old driveway, the workers discovered it had more layers than originally thought. Instead of calling me personally, the assistant in the office told me it would cost more and that "Mr. La Rocca said he'd give you a fair price." When asked what a "fair price" was, she could not tell me. Mr. L did come by later to explain it, but still could not tell me what the final cost would be. In additon, dspite the fact that they told me they would pave it on a certain day in the afternoon, they called that morning and told me to had to come home because they were ready to start and the garage door needed to be opened. Fortunately,I was just doing errands but that would have been an issue if I were at work. Putting aside whether they should have been able to discover/remedy, the situation, after the paving we had a hole in the driveway. It seemed to have been made by an animal. Since there was a guarantee, I asked them to repave it. The hole kept reappearing, and I was very frustrated, mostly becuase Mr. L would not speak to me. When I pointed this out in an email, he stated "you shouldn't be furstrated if my office calls you and not me. That's the way thing are done here and if you can't accept it, that's your decision." So I am extremely disappointed in the customer service I received for this large job. read more

In a few words- DONT USE THESE GUYS!!! I had them do a job at my house building a stairs on the front lawn with blue stone. In less than a year the steps started falling apart and when i called them to fix it their response was that it was due to the weather. Horrible business. read more

La Rocca & Sons are great. Flavio (the owner) shows up on time with a full crew and knocks out the work on time and on budget (I find this is a rare trait in Westchester contractors). We had them redo all of the stonework around our pool and the end result is beautiful. We really could not be happier with how it came out. They also built an outdoor kitchen area for us. Flavio worked with us on the design and the outcome has been perfect. Would definitely recommend to anyone with a stonework project. read more

Do not trust this contractor! I hired La Rocca at the beginning of June to redo my driveway and explained all the details and that I wanted it done by the end of the summer. We signed a contract and he took an initial deposit (for 1/3 of the job) and then asked for additional money for permits which I paid immediately. And then NOTHING HAPPENED. After 3 months of no work on my driveway the summer ended and I asked for my money back. He refused and told me I'd have to pay a ton of extra costs. I ended up working with the town to get the permit done (he was supposed to handle this) and then asked him to start work. Again, NOTHING HAPPENED. Finally, after repeated requests to return my money and almost 5 months after I first contracted with him, the temperature dropped from 70 degrees to 45 degrees. That's bad for driveways - warm weather is much better if you want to do a good job. But that's when he wanted to do the job - immediately before it got even colder. I had three problems - first that I had tried to get him to do the job for 4.5 months already and he hadn't done a thing - could I trust him do actually do a good job now? Second that the weather seemed too cold (he then responded that he did jobs up until Christmas no problem - notice the contradiction) - again, could I trust him? Third that he had taken money I had paid him and used it to pay deposits - in HIS name. The village told me that this was very bad practice. Deposits are supposed to be paid by the contractor as this protects the village against bad work. La Rocca used my money and put it in his name - and he would get it back at the end of the job. Would you trust this guy to rip up your driveway halfway into winter? After he sent me an insulting and threatening email to my polite questioning I'd had enough. This time when I asked for my money back he told me I'd hear from his lawyer. Then his lawyer tries to low ball me by offering to pay around a quarter of what I'd paid La Rocca and claiming La Rocca was "just a guy trying to run a business". Amazing! So that's where things stand. I am in the process of suing him after he took my money, lied to me repeatedly and did ABSOLUTELY NO WORK for 5 months. So if that's the guy you want to work with, then I strongly recommend - do not pay him a cent until he actually does work. read more

Terrible. Awful. Stay away. We needed to replace our front steps so we called La Rocca. Oh how I regret that day. His daughter does the "design" work but has zero qualifications. She didn't look into the town rules on distance from the street or anything and then when I looked into it and told HER we would need a variance, she wanted way more money! I argued with Flavio, he called our design a "monstrosity", and needless to say they refunded all of our money before this ended up in court. What a colossal waste of time. Now we are using a real architect for the design work who charges half as much (including the variance) and is actually qualified. Flavio's daughter dragged out the design process for months while our current architect had it done and submitted for review with the town in weeks. And, I feel the need to say that it isn't a monstrosity. Steps, landing, walkway, and a beautiful new awning. When this project is finally completed it will be beautiful, not a monstrosity. Although given Loredana's design skills, perhaps if we had stuck with them that is what it would have been. read more

I hired Flavio La Rocca to replace my driveway. I signed a contract in July and finally got my driveway partially paved the following April. The work was incomplete, because they stopped almost three feet short of the roadway. So now I have rough patch between the roadway and paved portion of the driveway. I have asked him to fix it numerous times and he says it looks "fine" to him. He stated that he couldn't do the last ~3 feet of the driveway because the permit from the Dept of Transportation wouldn't allow him to complete that work. He never mentioned that in our conversations nor did he adjust the price for reduced square footage. I call the DOT myself and found out that he could have done the last ~3 feet. Even after I told him this information and provided pictures of my neighbors driveway done the right way he refused to complete the work. Instead of doing the work he has threaten me with collections, liens and legal action. I would not use them again for anything. They should have stuck to cutting grass. read more

Incompetent and rude. We made an appointment and I took time off of work to be home. I waited until 30 minutes after the appointed time to call. I was then told he had come by and that no one was home other than the nanny. When I explained that he must have gone to my neighbors house since they have a nanny at home and because I was home waiting. I was told that I was wrong and that I COULDNT have been at home. I asked to reschedule ASAP and the secretary was rude and said she would see what she could do. After more discussion she said she would check the schedule and get back to me. They never did. I called again and left a message and never got a response. The only reason I called them is that they are authorized contractors for the town. I'll be complaining to them as well as they shouldn't have a contract with the city if the can't even read the correct house number on a house or be even moderately polite. read more

I made an appointment for Monday, October 6th. Flavio La Rocca arrived and we talked about a number of projects I wished to receive estimates for. He said he would email me an estimate later that week. On Thursday, October 16th I sent an email to make sure he had my email to send his proposal. The next day I received an email that he would work over the weekend to develop the proposal. After the following week, I called on Saturday October 25 and left a message asking that he call me - even to say he wasn't interested in proposing. I still haven't heard from him. read more
