Great food. An upscale but casual spot with a 1920s decor and vibe. All our dinners were excellent. Salmon with cheddar potatoes, shrimp and grits, steak, pork chop .... All were tender and very tasty. Service was also impeccable. The only reason it did not get five stars....the NOISE. We had to shout to be heard across a small table. If they could add some noise-absorbing panels .... Five stars all the way. read more

Awesome place to dine! The crab and cucumber tower was an excellent starter, mushroom soup was very good! The aged filet was cooked to perfection and well worth every penny! Had lunch in this place about a week ago, the first time I had eaten there. I ordered a sandwich called a Cubano which was made up of shaved pork in various concoctions of dressing. This is a very large sandwich and also very very good. We sat on the outside and it was late afternoon around 2:30 ,mistake, Culpeper does indeed have a rush hour! Regardless this does seem a very nice little place to have a lunch and probably a dinner also. We plan to go back for the dinner and I'll let you know how it goes. read more

Hmm a bit unclear on why the reviews are so strong here. The flank steak was lacking flavor and the accompanying potatoes tasted like they were out of a box. I could've made a better steak and I'm quasi-vegetarian.. The Cesar salad was ok - the smoked flavor of the lettuce was unique. Environment was decent, server was attentive and friendly. Sadly, we didn't even get to taste the food but I'm giving this low rating based on a lack of service. We waited for 15 minutes at our table and no waiter ever came to even ask us for drink orders. It was so long a wait that our water glasses were refilled by the bus boy but still no sign of a waiter or a manager. The table behind us had a similar experience and were out of their seats looking for service as we were leaving. Not sure what happened but a restaurant of this quality should know what kind of impression the front-of-house is giving. So disappointing!! read more

So disappointed! This was our 36th wedding anniversary and we were looking for an awesome meal. Went to Flavor on Mail back in the winter and fell in love with the food. Went tonight and the service was lackluster and the food and wine were worse. We ordered the Surf and Turf special and the Flank Steak. The meals were below average at best. The meat was overcooked, the sides were nothing special and even the wine was not good. We so loved it the first time but will not go back as this area has many places to eat that will show his one up. So sorry Flavor on Mail but we will not come back. read more

Went here Friday night with my family while I visit from LA and had a great meal!! Mom loved the mixed drinks and we got the sliders, scallop special, flank steak (potatoes with this were on point) and the porkchop (brussel sprouts with this were great!). We loved all of it! Had the fruit tart and carrot cake for dessert - the carrot cake was amazing and I'm super picky about carrot cake as I'm forever chasing one as good as grandma used to make. Our server Chris was a sweetheart and really knowledgable about the menu. This may have just replaced It's About Thyme (ok it def did) as our favorite restaurant in town. read more

First time we tried Flavor, the drinks were good, cool idea to offer prohibition drinks however the food was terrible! Some lobster bits in over cooked pasta with a unimpressive cream sauce, the lobster tasted raw and after taste of hotdogs! Won't go there again read more

So we came in for lunch on a Saturday before a movie. Place was empty. Decor is cool-ish. Very cold looking in front. But we get the 40-s inspired take. We ordered the crab dip and calamari. Crab dip was tepid, but would be really good heated all the way thru. Calamari never came out...waiter didn't hear the order. Salad, sandwiches and burgers took 45 minutes to come out of kitchen. Really?? My wedge salad had 10 pieces of bacon bits in it. I'm surprised at this lack of oversight from expediter, the food from Its About Thyme or Copper Fish always satisfies. (Same owner) Don't come here if in a rush. Hopefully they can adjust and make this place as good as the others. read more

Delicious! The flapper drink (a twist on the Cosmo with rum instead of vodka, St Germaine instead of Cointreau and a float of champagne) started off the evening wonderfully. We had the Shrimp fra Diavolio and the Mussels linguine. Both were done right. The selections of both drink (many Virginia beers on tap and a list of cocktails) and the food will bring us back. I haven't eaten here yet but will soon! I rented out The Gatsby room for a baby shower. They were fantastic to deal with and offered any help that we needed. We were able to bring in our own food. Everyone was quite impressed with the space, which is quite beautiful! I highly recommend having any gathering at this venue. We had a great first experience at Flavor on Main. The waitress was engaging, funny, made smart recommendations from the wine to the appetizers and all other aspect. Timing of the food to the table was well paced, and we enjoyed ourselves. We split the red pepper soup, which was amazing, and then my Wife had the flank steak and I did the Bouillabaisse. Topped off with the peanut butter pie at the end. The bill was pricey but the quality of the food and the service made it well worth the experience. This is definitely on par with It's About Thyme! read more

Someone from the restaurant reached out to me and we were able to talk about what had happened. My husband and I both felt as though the manager who we spoke to was very concerned and wanted to make sure that it didn't happen again. It was a perfect storm of bad circumstances but in the end it's all about how it was handled and we were happy at the promptness and professionalism that we received. We will going back to Flavor on Main soon to give it another go and we hope that it is back to being the amazing restaurant that we love. read more

We enjoyed a delicious anniversary dinner at Flavor on Main. Based on previous reviews, I tried the lobster Fra Diavalo. It was delicious although not perhaps as full of lobster as some other reviewers' portions. My husband had the marinated flank steak, which was also delicious in the one small bite he shared. If possible, ask to sit at one of the tables beside the kitchen if there are just two of you. We enjoyed watching the chefs prepare the food. Our waiter and the rest of the staff served us well. Our waiter answered our questions about the menu and allowed a substitution for one of my husband's side dishes. He was very knowledgeable about the many specials offered. We will definitely go back whenever we are in the area again. read more

This is hands down my favorite restaurant that is close by! I can always use an excuse to eat at Flavor! The food is to die for and the service is great! I find myself recommending this place often and everyone I've told says nothing but great things! A few of my favorites are the calamari, flank steak and the bourbon BBQ cola burger! Very enjoyable and delicious experience at Flavors. Zach our waiter was great and very knowledgeable about the menu. Among the group we got the chicken, crab cakes and flank steak. All fantastic. Also had a fabulous glass of wine - my only complaint would be the lack of variety in the wine prices, but the selection is fantastic. The food was good. Not great, not fantastic but good. Service was terrible. Staff was very polite and kind, but not knowledgeable or efficient. Our waitress didn't know anything about the specials she was trying to tell us about, and had zero knowledge about how a particular dish was prepared. When she sought the help of another, the hostess, she also had no knowledge. The restaurant was close to empty, yet we were continually interrupted at inopportune times with attempts to clear dishes etc. and was never asked if we wanted another adult beverage. Odd, as beverages are typically the big revenue source. Overall, we won't be returning. The experience just wasn't memorable in a favorable light. Training is in order. read more

Not very good. Fooled by the strong reviews. Soup was cold because they they put a tiny dollop of soup in a huge cold bowl. Waiter brought filet although my wife ordered flank steak. When correct order arrived it was tough and underdone. My fried chicken was neither flavorful nor juicy. Not the true southern deep fried battered chicken comfort food for which I'd hoped but a thin skinless filet lightly breaded. Described on menu as comfort food but not very comforting. Definitely not worth the high price. Restaurant was noisy, with an Art Deco hostess stand and tin ceiling but without much style or appeal. Grass Rootes and About Thyme around corner vastly better. My business associate and I ate here while in Culpeper on business. We both had the filet mignon and it was delicious. It was cooked to order and arrived on mashed potatoes with a side of asparagus. The meal came out pretty quick and the waitress was friendly, courteous, and efficient. I will be back here the next time I'm in town! read more

Fabulous place: delicious food (although the scallops were a bit salty), good service, great ambiance. Filet mignon cooked perfectly. Has a 1920s theme complete with vintage ceiling, framed pictures of celebrities from the 20s, and appropriate music. If you are in Culpeper, it's worth a visit. read more

In one of the reviews the writer states, "it's one of the only restaurants open till 11." Well from my experience last night, it's not even open till 10:07. We too had come from a showing at the Packard Campus, and wanted to get a drink and visit before heading home. As we approached the door, at first we thought they were closed but saw people sitting at the bar. Then we see the signage on the door stating they are open to 11. Finally a man comes to UNLOCK the door. We were informed the kitchen was closed, which was fine because again, all we wanted was a nightcap. We order, the drinks came, all good so far, then the bartender comes in the middle of our conversation and gives us the bill saying she just wanted to get the paper work started. OK, so we paid the bill and continued our conversation. Suddenly, I smell some kind of cleaning solution smell, and look to see the bartender nearly wiping my friend's elbow with her cleaning cloth as she continues her closing (I assume) duties. Talk about getting rid of customers! We left-who would want to sit there with cleaning agent smell right next to you? Is this standard restaurant operating procedure? Locking doors 57 minutes before closing time because one does not feel there are enough customers there? We were 4, and when we entered, there were about 7 or 8 others at the bar. I'm left with a really bad taste in my mouth, literally, and certainly won't be going back. P.S. To top it off, I called the next afternoon hoping to speak to a manager about the previous evening's events during the 2 hour break between lunch and dinner hours and asked for a call back. No response - guess they really do not care about customer's concerns. read more

My first time to Flavor in Main. We had drinks and appetizers. All were excellent! Service superb. Why you ask 4 stars? The lighting was blinding. Sorry to say that even with the lowering of the shield I couldn't see the person sitting next to me. It was very distracting. Still, I loved the food, drinks and service. Flavor on Main has been open for a year or two and is obviously the place to go in Culpeper for drinks and/or dinner. The dinner menu includes the "Tomahawk Pork Chop" which is thick, sizable, and fairly tasty. Even when ordered medium rare, however, it's not as tender as one would hope. It's very tasty though, and worth the menu price. If you are at Flavor on Main for dinner, try to sit as far from the front door as possible, because whenever someone enters or leaves the restaurant via the front door, the winter cold freezes diners at the first half dozen tables. read more

My wife and I arrived in Culpeper trying to figure out where to eat and we saw a middle-aged couple coming out the door of Flavor on Main, bragging about how fantastic their meal was (the man was excited about his steak). This place is on the fancy/pricey side, but even a penny-pincher like myself can appreciate the deliciously composed dishes and the attentiveness of the staff, particularly our server, Angie. This is the best restaurant in Culpeper. We have dined here several times and it has always been excellent. Last night we had a super friendly waitress that delivered special Skinny Margaritas that were made exactly as we requested (credit the bar tender).
