Went to celebrate a birthday. The food and drink menus are interesting and varied. The food was well cooked and seasoned but not special. Staff was nice, and service was fine but not excellent. The building is great, but the ambiance is definitely lacking. Lights were bright overhead track lights (and I usually complain about dim lighting); the building was both actually cold and had a decor lacking in warmth. This is such a cool space, but a few challenges with the ambiance. Downstairs feels a little more like a sports bar with the bar being to focus as you walk in. As you go upstairs, it feels like you're entering into a new place. It's a more elegant vibe upstairs. It's an old brick building which doesn't lend itself well to acoustics. We went with a group with 9 and it was a challenge to communicate from one end to the other. Steaks were pretty good. Temperature being an issue on a few. I tried the steak pasta because it seemed different and nothing like I'd had before. First it was the largest serving ever! It was good but I don't think I'd order it again. I've been here 4 times now and it's been sub par at best. Anyone who's ever had a great steak knows this place ain't it. Don't let other reviews tell you otherwise seriously! Longhorn steakhouse is far superior to this place in cost, flavor and quality. The filet was bland, tough and sadly over cooked. The side dishes were not fresh but previously frozen which even chain restaurants have better sides that are actually fresh. They give you the cheapest bread as an app and even the drink came out tasting like someone who's never made a drink put it together. Even the non steak items were bad (but why come to an over priced steak place for anything but steak) lol. I was extremely disappointed in my meal this evening. I ordered the $50 bone in ribeye medium rare. It arrived at the table well done. I ordered the $8 side of mushrooms that I assumed would be shareable. This is what I was given. It's fine that it wasn't big enough to share because that was my assumption but this is the extremely small portion even for one. Also I was not even halfway through my steak and the waitress brought the check to the table and asked if i needed a box...as I was chewing. For the inconvenience she removed a glass of wine that the person I was dining with had but not my cocktail. I was the one who got the unsatisfactory meal! We We were given a 10% discount.... $12 on a $127 bill. So basically I got a $6 discount on my portion of the meal. We won't be back. read more

I really recommend choosing a different restaurant. We went here last night for my mom's birthday. On a positive note the service was very good, but not the food. We shared the crab and spinach dip appetizer which was terrible, it was so fishy. I didnt expect fresh crab but this must be one of the lowest quality of frozen crab offered by their purveyor. We sent it back and ordered fried zucchini which was so salty. Dad and husband rhought the lamb lollipops were good. Mom and i split the scallops for our entrée, they too were very salty. Dad's steak and husband's pork chop was okay. Then the bill came and we were charged $10 because we shared the entrée. I was pretty shocked but my husband,who is a chef, explained why that is done and I understood. However we all agreed our waitress should've told us when we ordered rather than surprise us at the end. read more

I wasn't really impressed, IMHO Texas Roadhouse makes better steaks. I ordered a ribeye med rare and it came out med-med well and it wasn't seasoned well at all, the sides were very lackluster. I have wanted to come here for years after reading the great reviews ans even getting a great review from my daughter when I gave her a gift certificate to eat here. Yesterday I had an opportunity when my sister was in town yesterday. When we entered we weren't greeted so we just sat down at a table. It took 5 minutes or so to have the one waiter finally stop by for the drink order and dropped off menus. I couldn't love or hate the ambience, the historic inside was beautifully restored, actually gorgeous. Except the 10"x10" modern tile foor, it was like modern shiney wheels on an old classic car. I know, I'm being overly picky, but details matter when you restore something historic. My sister ordered the cream of chicken soup, she loved ot a nd I tried a small bite as well and it was good, but needed salt and pepper. We both ordered th 6 oz filet, her's with green beans and mashed potatoes and mine with green beans and sweet potato fries, I ordered mine rare, it was seared way too hot to the point it burnt the outside making a hard crust to cut through and for a filet there's no fat to compensate with a burnt dry crust. Steaks should be seared, not charred. The filet itself was just not a high quality or even good piece of meat. Maybe I just had a bad steak on that day is what I was thinking and ate it like a rabid dog I was so hungry, no time to send it back. The balsamic reduction was a nice touch to an otherwise under whelming burnt steak. My sister ordered hers medium, it was nicely seared and cooked properly. She din't yhave the burnt crust, but the steak was touch to cut through with a steak knife. She said it was underwhelming as well, but liked the balsamice reduction. Neither of us cared for the garlick green beans, although they were perfectly cooked, they had no flavor even after adding salt and pepper. The mashed potaroes and sweet potato frees were very good. Our waiter was very friendly and as attentive as he could be considering he was the only server for the whole dining room. The price point for a steak and 2 sides lunch was $19 was a fantastic price, especially if the steaks were a little better quality. Maybe we had an of day, who knows? I had a reservation for four people because I had friends visiting from out of town. They called me 3 hours from my reservation time to tell me there was a glitch in the system and they were overbooked and had to cancel our reservation which left me scrambling on a Saturday night to try to find another restaurant that could accommodate us on such short notice. I have been there on other occasions and frankly have not been impressed. Their food is overpriced and not worth it. I once went for lunch with my parents and they completely burned my Dad's order. My daughter and I love eating lunch here. Always have a good meal. I wish the portion were a tad big bigger because the good is so YUMMY! We make our reservation on line - very easy to do. Menu is small but it is all delicious. Dessert is good too - we always get the cheesecake. Never had a bad server. Wine is awesome. The food was excellent. The service was great. My reservation from the website reservation booking had our party with a downstairs table. We meet the host, and he says we're being seated upstairs, ~ 20 stairs. We're there with our ~ 85 year old parents. My brave in-laws double stepped each stair to the top, walking past 10+ empty seats in front of tables. When I showed my reservation he gave me a ton of excuses and not an apology until I asked. Update: I spoke with the manager or owner, Nikki, she's absolutely delightful. She apologized for the treatment. She's genuine; she wants her patrons to have the best experience. Six of us enjoyed a fairly decent meal and were asked to leave just after we set our forks down from dessert because they had reserved our table for another party who had arrived and was waiting. This was my first time to Piedmont and it was too good. I had heard my family members talk about it all the time and how they wanted to take me and finally we decided to make the trip. We got the mussels, calamari, the tomahawk steak (preordered over the phone), and a bison steak. I loved everything that was put in front of me and the staff and ambiance were home-y. We had reservations at 6 and it started off shaky because they appeared to be scrambling for a table for us, even though we had confirmed the reservations twice on the phone. They did wedge us in a corner, but once settled we realized the staff was overwhelmed with a large party on the main level and no telling what was happening upstairs. Now the service was very good and accommodating and not pushy and they also did not ignore us. The cocktails were all so good we ordered another round. They need to keep the bartender very happy because she knows what she is doing. The clam chowder was delish, with a hint of bacon, not over powering which is exactly how it should be. The shrimp was cooked well but not over cooked, maybe a little less of the spice they use because it seemed to be over salty but once we all started talking we figured it wasn't salt but maybe pepper? There are no negatives about the ambiance the owner creates for his patrons. The service was impeccable. The waiter was knowledgeable and attentive. The food was very good. My husband's crab chowder was excellent. He ordered seared scallops which were perfect for him, but I would have liked if they had been cooked a tad longer. The steak was incredibly delicious although a little overcooked for my taste. The rib-eye steak was also overpriced - over fifty dollars - for a steak which was a half-inch thick. Tried this spot out for b/day dinner and WOW was this underwhelming. First off the music didn't match the atmosphere at all...nothing classy or cozy about the music choice. I was caught off guard with the teenage wait staff which were very undertrained on how to greet and seat guests not to mention they just didn't have the proper etiquette when speaking to guests at a restaurant with this kind of price point (example of proper wait staff would be adults who are well versed with the menu and hospitality) also we shouldn't have to ask for a refill before getting it. The bread and butter was the cheapest I'd ever been served at any "high end" steak house (Outback, longhorn and Texas RH all give better bread for free lol). The calamari was not fresh but previously frozen ,was served with no lemon and included only the rings (no tentacles) for $18 it's a hard no from me. The menu had plenty of choices to choose from which isn't the norm for a high end restaurant. The side of green beans were not fresh but very soggy, the "loaded" baked potato which we upgraded to with an added charge didn't even include bacon(LOL) and tasted like cardboard (long horn or outback steak house baked potato's are amazing compared to this). The steak itself was very disappointing. While the filet was tender (as it should be for the $60 price point) it was completely FLAVORLESS...the Demi glaze sauce was good...the half teaspoon of it that is would've enjoyed more of that sauce but the steak should speak for itself which it didn't. For anyone who's actually enjoyed a decent steak we know that this place just AINT IT. Save your money and go to longhorn where they actually cut fresh & local cuts in house every day and taste good or for a more upscale choice give dc prime a try which is worth the $$$. read more

Nothing very special. Although they were never fully booked during the time we were there, they made us feel rather uncomfortable about moving to a table upstairs. It was very cold at the first table and right up against the staircase. Ordered the "wedge salad", or their interpretation of it anyway, and it was so vinegary, that I almost sent it back. Clam chowder was unremarkable. We had a roast pork shank ossobucco with mashed potatoes and garlic string beans. Again nothing to regale about. Also ordered a bone in rib eye. Looked great, perfectly cooked, but gave my jaw a real workout. Definitely not a quality cut. Dessert was a chocolate cake, very good but charging an extra $3.00 for a second cup of tea just feels wrong. Overall, not bad. Just wouldn't repeat when looking for a really good steak. If you are looking for that exceptional steak house that has impeccable service,decor,cleanliness and great food do not eat here. To start with the restrooms are not up to par with a clean establishment (see photos below) I ordered steak medium and as all know should be pink center and it was well and the baked potato must have been baked 2 times not one. Our friends steak was medium and was rare. Calamari was drenched in oil and was like calamari from US Foods out of a bag. The sad part this would all be fine if it was Longhorns or Outback. Steak prices are $41 For this kind of money stick with Ruth Chris or Fleming's. Never again here. read more

Regrettably, we will be taking one of our favorite restaurants off our list. The only reason I still give it 3 stars is that their food is very good. But their portions are less than they used to be, and they are getting ridiculous with their pricing. An up charge of $5 for asparagus instead of string beans and only getting 6 asparagus is crazy. Their fish sandwich was overcooked and dry. They ran out of burgers at 12:45, claiming to have served more than expected. The restaurant is a renovated hardware store warehouse from the 1800s and it was owned by the same family for 100 years. We were told about this restaurant last year when we visited another restaurant in Orange Virginia. I tried the calamari first and had to send it back because it was overcooked and then was offered the crabmeat and spinach dip which had no taste at all. The salad was brought out with a crab cake and I wasn't very impressed because it was not that fresh. The Caesar salad was not bad. The steak was cooked perfectly and very juicy! I dig into it like a wild animal! Extremely flavorful ribeye! They paired it with fresh spinach and oven roasted potatoes and onions. Delicious! Their martini was awesome. The key lime pie was too tart for me so I gave it to my friend. Overall I enjoyed my dinner and recommend this steakhouse. Vance and Christina were wonderful servers.
