This used to be my go-to drink and dinner place when I lived near Printer's Alley and now it's my go-to dinner spot whenever I first land in Nashville when visiting. The food and service has been great all throughout the years, and has been one of the most consistent spots around. The Piccadilly (cod) fish & chips is always spot on; a light fluffy breading with a fantastic crunch. The chips are great, but level them up and ask for a side of curry. If you've never had mushy peas before this is the place to try them. Even if you've had mushy peas at other places, still give these a try anyways. They're unlike any other. A gin & tonic with the chips and curry is a reason I live. Switch over to a beer and it's another. Potato Soup at midnight? They got you. It's a dark quiet pub where you can experience everything from watching a game, conversing with friends, or finding a quiet nook to read a book and enjoy a drink. Eat here often!! Everything is scratch made- make their sauces, ice cream, everything. They have the best fish n chips. Get the picadilly plate. Love their brussel sprouts. If you have room, get their bread pudding- very tall and very delicious. Service is always great. Everyone must be 21 to enter/ eat here. No exceptions. Great dive-y (not a dive, though) bar! Super-relaxed atmosphere, I love dropping in just to relax when I'm in town (as I tend to stay nearby). I'm not a soccer (yes, should be called football in this review, I know), but it really just works here to sit at the bar with some random new friends late night and bonding over a Premier League match. Solid selection of beers and whiskies, with some cocktails of course. Bartenders are great. Really like the food too...an Irish/British theme, there are some strong selections. The first time I was here, I got the beef stew, while my friend got the fish & chips. This time, another friend got fish and chips (albeit with the Pollock and not the cod) and I finally got the Shepherd's Pie (day special with a pint for $16 - see pix). The spot is downstairs from Ms. Kelli's and across from All Saints Clothing. You can also find the Fedora Lounge in this area, which is a great spot for non-downtown priced cocktails. You descend down into the tube and find this lovely spot. Service was on par, even considering how busy they were at the time and this was true the first time we went in. So here is my update. My favorite shepherd's pie is still The Lost Paddy east of downtown, but this is a solid contender. Comes out very hot (don't touch the plate) and is a hearty pie. Potatoes done nicely and the amount of cheese on top is just right for a savory, satisfying meal. I think the cod is a bit better choice for the fish & chips than the pollack, but there is a bit more boldness in the taste. One thing I love about this spot is the fact it is less expensive than a lot of spots around the downtown area, including those in Printer's Alley. Would I return? Well, I did. I was looking at an apartment around the corner and the call of Shepherds Pie was too strong. Would I go back again? Certainly. A nice little UK comfort food joint. Maybe next time I need to grab some bangers and mash. read more

Very cute traditional-feel Irish pub right on Painter's Alley, if you're looking for a relatively quiet alternative to B'way. Dropped in, late-ish on a Saturday looking for exactly that, a slower vibe. Pleasantly surprised by the quality of the drinks, fair prices and the very yummy side of fried potatoes we had to counteract some of the booze. Background music was just right, no need to raise your voice to have a conversation. Lots of little pockets of folks enjoying themselves, talking, drinking or eating. In seeking a quality meal outside the vacuum of Broadway we happened upon the authentic English pub Fleet Street Pub on Printer's Alley. Our lunch of Fish n Chips was perfect in every way. The fried Cod was battered and fried crispy yet retained that flaky white meat texture we sought. The accompanying "chips" (fried potatoes) were perfectly seasoned and when combined with the house made tartar sauce it was spot on! We always judge our meals with the acid question "would you order it again?" A resounding "YES" is the answer! Beer was $5.50 vs the $11 most places on Broadway. Admired the Shepherds Pie and the Burgers. Perhaps next time. Cool, funky place on the street but down stairs. We definitely will be back again. Fleet Street pub was our first stop in Nashville and it really set the tone for the weekend. I found this place through a colleague that suggested it. We went and found it nestled in a small back alley lined with Burlesque bars and other cool little spots. Fleet Street pub is a basement English pub, with great ambiance and amazing decor. Everything screams British Punk Rock and I'm here for it. One of the biggest things I noticed on the reviews was the fish and chips and potato soup. So naturally I had to get this and see if it lived up to the hype. Everyone was so helpful, friendly and super welcoming. What made this even better was the lunch special of 7.50 for this whopping piece of cod. This was honestly so amazing!The fish was so flakey and crispy, perfectly fried. The chips were steak cut and tender and fluffy, my mouth is watering just thinking about this! The potato soup was everything the reviews said, savory, flavorful and absolutely so perfect for this cold day. This was such a cool spot to start our trip, it's saved on my just revisit next time in in Nashville! read more

We had a party of 8 of us on a Friday night and Fleet Street HIT THE SPOT! (I can't believe I didn't take pictures cause I always do) Anyway, since there were 8 of us we got a variety of entrees to our table and we all LOVED THE FOOD - 2 of us got the shepards pie and both of them said it was the best food of all the meals we had in Nashville for our 4 day trip. I got a special - chicken sandwich - it was awesome... BUT BUT BUT the drinks OMG - the best!!!!!! Chelsea, the bartender was AWESOME - she mixed the best drinks so much so that I called when I got back home to see if she would share the proportions of alcohol in the Plenty O'Toole -- and she did! I am super excited to try making one at home! Also my husband ordered the yellow submarine and he loved that as well!!!!! So awesome - if I could give Fleet Street more than 5 I would!!!!! I have become really turned off by the inconsistency of prices at Fleet Street. You'll sit down to order a drink and then someone else sits down next to you and says to the bartender "Don't forget my discount. I'm not paying $13 when I can pay $3." Then a little ways down the bar three people will walk in and without asking are poured six Guiness and three shots with a wink & a nod. This trend continues as infinitum depending upon who comes in and how tight they are with the bartenders. So essentially the business model is to overcharge everyone who isn't personal friends with the bar staff and to give away the house to all their good time buddies. read more

The food was really good, the atmosphere was perfect for an underground pub, and the service was fantastic. We first shared the deviled eggs. They were fresh, creamy, and yummy. It was the perfect lunch appetizer. I then tried the $7.50 fish and chips lunch special. The lunch special has only 1 piece of fish, while the dinner has 2 pieces of fish. Be aware: the fish portions are huge and the 1 piece of perfectly battered and cooked fish along with the large portion of fries, was all I could possibly eat for lunch. Not only were the fish and chips filling, but both the fish and the chips were super tasty. I loved the crunch on the fish and the wide cut fries. Neat underground vibe to catch the game. Great for groups. Came in during lunchtime and saw that they had a few different lunch specials. A few of the folks in our group really enjoyed the fish and chips. I got the chicken pie, which took a little bit longer to come out but that way I know that it was fresh and made with love. The base of the mashed potatoes was really good and the pie filling itself was tender with a flaky crust on top. Decent and huge portion. Overall cool spot if you're looking for a pub. read more

This is a cool mellow pub. First you walk downstairs and immediately stumble on the first step like I did, looking like I clearly already had one too many drinks.. head your way past the bathrooms and into a very cozy bar area. Tables, chairs, bar seats, couches, dart board, lots of British stuffs on walls - bathroom walls are wallpapered with rock and roll bands (at least the women's room), and there's an Arsenal flag on the wall. I will ignore that fact, as I'm a strong Liverpool fan, and say the staff are nice and helpful, the chips and curry sauce was absolutely delicious and the beers were good. Their lunch special seems like a really good deal, and I'll have to come back here to check that out. read more

Happened upon this spot. A very cool basement bar, spacious and inviting. Sports on the flat screens and tunes playing in the background. Try the Bangers and Mash with a pint of Guinness, you will not be disappointed. Pleasant conversation with bartender Ian, who I learned after the visit, is actually the owner of this fine pub. On a busy Sunday night, we were looking for a bar where we could sit down. We walked in and there were a lot of places to sit. We ordered one round of drinks from a waiter who came over to our table. One of the drinks was wrong..ordered whiskey and they brought vodka so it was caught right away. Other than that, it was great service. Overall, there are a lot better bars nearby which is probably why we could find a seat so easily. Drinking bourbon neat out of a plastic cup isn't the best experience either. read more

Fun story. My friend and I were looking to stop for a beverage and a guy popped out of a black door in an alley and we asked him where he was coming from. He said Fleet Street that's around the corner in Printers Alley. We said why not and went down the rabbit hole into the greatest dive bar to share some sliders and some drinks. The bartender, Shane, was very nice and we found out the stranger that popped out was actually the manager. This is hands down our favorite bar in downtown Nashville. A small, underground, dark hole in the wall (yet still upscale vibe) pub. Straight out of London. British owned, it has amazing food and plenty of beer. And football (I don't mean NFL, but you can watch that also...). They also have the best lunch specials in the city. Open late nights too.
