Flippin is probably on the lower tier of SD NY pizza. Which makes me wonder why they're sprouting up all over N. County like mustard plants. To me, more often than not their pizza is not even average. Still, I hit it up for lunch from time to time because I'd still rather eat pizza any day of the week over just about anything else. I think it's just a consistency thing. Too many shops sprouting all over the place and it's getting away from management. Sometimes it doesn't seem like there's even a drop of sauce on the pie, other times it's too much. Sometimes the dough is perfect, other times it's crap. I think the first one ever out here was probably pretty good, good enough for people to ask the owner to let them start their own. Then he probably did and they went and thought that all they had to do was open the doors and watch the money come in. Meanwhile, the person who's getting rich is the guy who franchised out and let his product's quality and reputation go down the tube. Maybe the guy should go "Undercover Boss" and get back in there and find out what's going wrong. I write this review about this location because it's the one that I go by the most, but I've been to the others too and it's not just this shop that has the consistency problem, it's between stores too. Sure wish they would clean up that problem. It's obvious that theguy at the top has the dollar backing to stay open for a long time since they even have a mobile pizza truck (probably from all the franchise fees that he collected). If that's his intention, I hope he hears this message and gets the consistency where it should be. A slice in O-side should taste the same as a slice in Encinitias as a slice in Vista. read more

In response to Jopo P, your facts are a little off base. Yes, an individual opened the Knockout and got the recipe from Bronx and yes, that individual sold to the current owner. However, where you go wrong is that the new owner is the only one using the original, high quality cheese whereas the old owner and Bronx had or have strayed from the original recipe. I know both original owner and current owner and have been going to Knockout since day 1. Both owners had their period where the product was a little off. I talked to the owner after I saw Jopo's post and he acknowledged he had some quality issues when he was growing but they were not because of any changes with the product. Jopo, it is unfair to suggest they are using cheap cheese. I hope you realize you could negatively affect someone's business by making false claims. The new owner is a good guy and does a lot for the community. He also recognizes mistakes were made and quality suffered along the way. I personally think that the product is the same as day 1 but because the owner started growing and changed the brand (Knockout to Flippin) the perception has changed from local, mom and pop to chain. Whether this is true or not, I maintain the pizza is as good today as the day Knockout opened. read more

While Flippin Pizza's website was down during my recent visit, preventing me from placing an online order, the experience at the restaurant itself was very positive overall. When I called to place my order over the phone, the employee who took my call was incredibly friendly and accommodating despite how busy they seemed to be. The restaurant had ample seating and plenty of parking, which was a relief given how crowded it was. We ordered 6 pizzas between our group, and every single one was delicious. The crust was perfectly cooked, the toppings were fresh and flavorful, and the portion sizes were very generous. The only downsides were the website being inaccessible to place our order online ahead of time, and the slightly long wait due to how busy they were. However, the great food, friendly service, and pleasant dining atmosphere made up for those minor inconveniences. While not a perfect 5-star experience, Flippin Pizza is still a great local pizza spot that I would highly recommend, especially if you give them a call first before stopping in. Just be prepared for a potential wait during peak hours due to their clear popularity. read more

My father brought home an excellent pizza and salads last week that made our family want to try this place again tonight as we have just moved to the area. Seems like the service and quality for the price are not consistent. -There were no Caesar dressings included in our to go order despite ordering a Caesar salad. We just moved to a new home and have no groceries/dressings to use so dry salads are cool I guess. -The "add chicken" portion to a salad was minuscule, underwhelming and unappetizing. -tonight we ordered 2 salads, a side order of chicken, and 2 appetizers for $61. Definitely not worth the $61 for the amount of food we got -Only giving 2 stars because last weeks pizza and salad were delicious Would consider going again and checking my to go order very carefully before leaving. read more

Awesome pizza. Buffalo chicken, tomato basil, artichoke garlic, all great. Though I tend to add bacon and jalapeños to the pepperoni. Dough is flipped on the back and toppings are kept fresh. While I agree with Steven M. that pizza can be very simple, good thin crust is not. Hand tossing is not as easy as it may look. But these guys have nailed it. Just like back East. I'm often stuck down here in San Diego and cant get Flippin, but every time I'm up in the area I make it a point to grab a slice. Gary M., I don't know who you talked to, but it sounds like a pretty bad experience. If you ever give them another chance, go talk to the owner. His name is Steve. Great guy. I think he's in there most days. Guarantee he'll take care of whatever you went through. read more

I just moved from New York and went to Flippin based on my buddy's recommendation and was happy I only had to wait 2 months to find pizza like back home. My buddy was out here 3 years before he found a good pizzeria. Anyhow, I am surprised by some of the reviews of this place. Amber honey, I don't know where you are getting pizza in New York for $12 but it ain't in New York. This pizza is the best I have had outside of New York and I would say better than a lot of new York places. Who knows, maybe they had a problem when you were there as there is no way you can say this pizza is just ehh. i guess everyone has their opinion but as a new Yorker who just moved here this place makes me feel like I am back home. read more

Had to leave a quick review because the experience tonight (05/22/2026) was awesome. I ordered through the Too Good To Go app and was honestly surprised by how good everything was for the value. The two young ladies at the front were laughing, joking around, and just genuinely in a great mood, which honestly made me laugh and put me in a good mood too. That kind of energy and customer service stands out. The pizza was great, the garlic knots were fresh and flavorful, and the pepperoni rolls were seriously amazing. Everything tasted fresh and made with care. 10/10 experience and I'll definitely be back. read more

The other day, my wife and I got a envelope in the mail with a few coupons...half heartedly we looked at the coupons and thought that Flippin' Pizza looked pretty good. Oh, we also were intrigued by the "Free Pizza Pie" coupon. So we went to try it out and were really surprised how good it was. Everyone working there was friendly and eager to help out. The pizza was good, not too greasy and flavorful. It also helped that we got a $20 pizza for free! All in all, great place and somewhere that we will try out again. read more

I was very upset with my visit. Their website, yelp and google maps all said open till 10pm but when we arrived they closed at 9pm and the employees were inside making an eating pizza for themselves. I understand it's not their fault, although when we got to the door they all refused to look our way and notice us an we weren't the only ones there confused at the times. Another couple was there just as upset. I don't live close and it would of been nice if they advertised the right times at least. read more

Flippin' Pizza on Melrose Drive offers a great casual dining experience with delicious, New York-style pizza. The crust is perfectly thin and crispy, and the toppings are fresh and flavorful. Their staff is friendly, and service is quick. It's a great spot for a quick slice or a whole pie if you're craving authentic pizza. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, perfect for families or casual meetups. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area! read more

Total rip off artists...They charged my card, never got my order..After trying to call & rectify the problem they wouldn't return calls & blamed the pandemic as to why they cannot return calls..Weird I didn't know you could transmit a virus over the phone..Called their corporate office & you guessed it more run around. I eventually gave up let them have my 40 bucks. Best of luck & spend my money wisely snakes read more

After waiting an hour on a Monday night, we received our white pizza with pepperoni and sausage. When we received the pizza, it was potentially the worst I've ever had, and I managed a pizza place for a year. The pizza had two pepperonis per slice and one sausage. We paid nearly $30 for a large pizza better suited for chuck-e-cheese. DO NOT WASTE your hard earned cash here. read more

The food is always good and all the other workers are nice, this would be a 5 star review if it weren't for this lady right here. She's always very rude to customers and it's almost as if she refuses to treat them kindly. My friend tipped her today and she didn't even say thank you or acknowledge him. This isn't the first time she has been rude to people either. read more

I don't even know this place but I just want to vent about school here. My friend is being disrespected by her group mates and one of the boys think he ate, he doesn't even know what steak is and treating my friend like a newborn baby. I stood up for her but they say it's none of my business like get outtttttt. Thanks for listening read more

We moved in down the street and were hesitant to try Flippin (not huge chain restaurant fans), but immediately decided it would be our new go-to pizza spot. The staff was awesome and filled us in on all the discounts, the pizza was incredible and the environment was fun and laid back. Can't wait to stop in more often! read more

Hair Pie! Found a dark hair baked into my pizza the other day. Will go to the La Costa location from now on. This is unacceptable. Like they say about drunk drivers.......they've driven drunk dozens of times before they were caught. We've probably had hair pizza more than once. UNSANITARY!!!!!!! read more

I've said it once, and I'll say it again. Best pizza spot in north country. Every time I come in the staff has the upmost service and the pizza is amazing. If you have 15 minutes, order a fresh pie or calzone as it'll be the best you ever had. read more

I don't care where you are in life, you haven't eaten good pizza until you eat here. It's NY style, thin crust, and the bomb. Hide your children, because if they try this pizza they won't want anything else. Oh yeah, and they serve beer! read more

Can't gay an order right. Got home with the wrong pie twice in a row. It was OK but not what we ordered. The orders were repeated back to me over the phone correctly. I guess some one else got ours but twice in a row? Come on! read more
