Had an outstanding float that brought me some mental clarity, increased motivation and relaxation. The whole place is charming and clean and comfortable. The check in was easy, the guidance covered the bases and things were very private. I was in tank #1 which had room to stand and a lovely shower area. I love that I didn't need to bring anything. They have it all ready for you. I was able to get the silicone ear plugs sealed well enough to keep water out of my ears, but I also used the bottle of ear rinse drops afterwards to make sure no salt dried in my ears canals and then rinsed them out in the shower. My tank ended up feeling a little too cool after being in there for an hour. I noticed it was at 95.3 degrees when I got out. I would asked for it to be a little warmer next time. Don't float if you have a healing wound, open rash, new piercing or tattoo, etc. Salt HURTS! I irritated my inny belly button while showering before getting in the tank and I was in pain as soon as I got in the tank (luckily the irritated skin healed up in a few minutes and stopped hurting, but it really sucked for five minutes). Also, don't rub your eyes while in the tank as the salt will hurt. Use the hand towel and put it on the hook inside the tank. Wipe your face with that if needed during the float Consider removing any medical patches (nicotine, hormonal, etc.) as the adhesive could come off or you could dose the water and lose medicine you need. read more

Float On is a Portland treasure! I really don't think anyone does floatation thereapy better. The staff here are friendly and supportive, the entire space is dedicated to soothing visitors and minimizing stimuli, there is much emphasis on cleanliness, and there are a wide variety of tanks to choose from. If you are looking for a transformative experience, definite give floatation therapy a chance. I was a little anxious at first and found it difficult to just let go, but letting go is what gives you the best return on investment. Float On is one of the places where I am best able to quiet those inner voices, enter into a deep and meditative state, and walk away feeling relaxed and renewed. It's my happy place. All of my loved ones have been warned that if anyone ever asks, "Hey, what do you think Nico would like for his birthday," the answer is always a gift certificate at Float On! I truly thought float therapy would give me an anxiety attack, but it's done the opposite! I highly recommend Float On -- especially if you're new to floating and want to make sure you feel comfortable going into it. The staff will walk you through the experience, give you advice on how to get the best out of it, and take care of you when you stumble out of the room completely zenned out after a float. :-) I personally prefer the large pool rooms and tank rooms over the pods, but Float On has plenty of all three float types for you to find out what works best for you. Remember, you are in total control and can slowly ease yourself into it. You can play music if you'd like or keep it quiet. You can choose to start with lights on or turn them off immediately. You can figure it out as you go and eventually you'll be hooked. I definitely recommend going for a float at least twice to figure out whether you enjoy it or not. The first time can be a bit weird getting used to it, but the second will definitely tell you if this is for you. I generally feel much more relaxed and my generalized anxiety is greatly improved for a little over a week. This is a great place to float. Let me tell you why. First, what is a float place? It is a location with individual rooms containing floatation tanks filled with water and enough epsom salts to keep you effortlessly afloat. It feels like being set free from the tyranny of gravity for a little while. Choose between full dark or lit and float for 90 minutes (or more, late at night). The place is calm and welcoming, with a strong water or beach motif. It has lovely murals and art that emphasizes that vibe. It isn't fancy or formal and don't expect a spa experience. This place is as practical as it is welcoming and wholesome. They have a variety of different float tanks in their rooms. They are not all the same but scheduling portal on their site has photos to help you make your choice. I was able to make a choice with lots availability less than a week out from the day I chose - busy enough to show they are popular, free enough that you don't have to plan 6 weeks in advance! I have floated here before but I will focus on today. I choose room 5. I was greeted warmly and led to my room promptly. This room was spacious but well filled. They had a large (I was told it was a 4X size) robe with their logo hanging on the door. This is welcome as I am a plus size woman and was a fairly recent update, I am told. They also had a pair of spa sandals for hygiene in the shower or in the halls. There is also a box of useful items, such as ear plugs, makeup remover, q-tips, and so on, along with a large and fluffy towel on a seat. (Be sure to watch the introductory video before your first float - it definitely will explain a few things and help smooth your way.) I made sure to insert the earplugs BEFORE entering the shower this time (my error the first time) and much preferred it. You don't have to use them but it takes some time (and provided vinegar) for some to get the salt out of their ears when it is over. Just to the left was a shower with body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and also lotion, available for use. They also have a built in sound system with cables for most (if not all) devices and also bluetooth connections. You can choose between silence, relaxing spa music, a book, or maybe a guided meditation. I choose ambient spa music today. Even with plugs in, I was able to hear my music, I assume due to the acoustic properties of the water. After the shower, I stepped into the pool, which is about 11 inches deep and body temperature, or maybe slightly cooler. It is big enough for me (5'5") to float spread out and not touch the sides. The light controls and easy to find, right by the entrance to the pool. Turn off the lights, and just let go and float. I was able to let go of both body strain and personal stress. I don't find it boring, just peaceful. Finally, after 90 minutes, their music begins to play, giving notice that it is time to return to the real world. They will bring up the lights afterwards, too, or you can turn them on yourself. They allow plenty of time to shower and dress after the time is up. I left feeling calm and soothed. So, why 4 stars? I really debated giving it 5 stars but, in the end, I give 4 because the facility has only one restroom, not on in each room, which would be truly premium. Mind you, the distance is short, they provide a robe and sandals, and I have never had to wait to use it. And, I also don't hold it against them - there isn't room in the rooms for individual restroom facilities. But, if it is missing anything, that would be it. If that matters to you - 4 stars. For me, it still counts as 5. If you are going to do this, I suggest you keep a few things in mind. Watch the video - it is maybe 5 minutes long. Decide ahead of time if you want music or sound and set up your playlist in advance. Remember that you are going to want to wash your hair afterwards. Really. This isn't like a saltwater pool, this will leave serious salt crystals if you don't wash well. And that means being ready for it. Today, I remembered to bring my wet brush but wished I had also brought a hair turban. The rooms don't appear to have hair dryers - if that matters to you, ask the staff. I don't know if they can accommodate it but they might and they do take requests and feedback into account. My first float had a robe that was too small. When I commented, they told me first that larger robes were available upon request and, this time, when I requested it with my booking, they told me all robes were 4X, due in part to comments like mine. In short, they took my feedback and remembered I had given it. So, I love floating. I love this place. I will return. They have memberships, with discounted rates. They have extra long floats at no additional cost late at night (think 2 AM late). And, they have sales. I bought this float and another at 50% off and they are good for years. It's peaceful. I have been floating here for four years or so. During the pandemic when they were initially closed was tough, because this it's such a good place to get resented, which we all needed during those early days. I think the prices are fair, the staff are all awesome humans, and the place is very clean. This place doesn't have a fancy ambience, so if that's a requirement for you keep it in mind, but it's definitely comfortable, and each room with the flotation tanks is private and well cared for. I come here to reset my nervous system, and occasionally to experience shifting consciousness. We're lucky to have this place as part of our Portland community. Quick 3-Second Review: Awesome, Fun, Relaxing, Do It! Detailed Review: I signed up for the monthly membership and have packed 18 floats into a single month. I've tried every tank and will give brief reviews of each below. Float On is Portland's largest float center, with 6 tanks. Each room/tank is slightly different and there's a good variety, from simple to sci-fi movie dreaminess. The staff are friendly, and most of them have everything together. When you walk into Float On, you'll immediately notice that it feels very warm and humid, in a tropical way. In spite of how much warmth and moisture is constantly in the air, it always smells good. The place is decorated in bright blue and yellow, with colourful stretchy fabric pulled across the ceiling. It's a fun-looking environment. There's a comfortable couch and chairs in the waiting area, and you can help yourself to tea prior to your float. It feels soothing just being there. If it's your first float, one of the staff members will tell you everything you need to know about your float, and show you around the room/tank where you'll be spending the next 90 minutes. They are happy to answer your questions. Tank #1 - This is one of their Ocean Float tanks. The room the tank is located in is a little on the small side, but not cramped. The tank itself is tall, but the width of the pool isn't as wide as some of the others. This means that you're more likely to softly bump into the walls more often. It's not a problem once you're settled though. I have noticed a rare soft "knock" sound when floating in this tank. It's nothing major, but it could take you out of a deep meditation briefly. Tank #2 - This is another one of their Ocean Float tanks. But, this one has twinkly LED "stars" on the ceiling of the tank that softly pulse in the most beautiful and peaceful way. The tank is tall, but the width isn't as wide a some of the others. As I mentioned in Tank #1, this may mean you'll softly bump into walls until you're settled. This tank is one of my favourites. Tank #3 - This is the Evolution Pod and it looks like a space egg. Getting in and out of it feels you're about to embark, or return, from a journey through the cosmos. The width of the pool isn't as wide as some of the others, so you may softly bump into walls until you're settled. Tank #4 - This is the Zero Gravity tank. The room the tank is located in is probably the largest and the lighting is a dreamy soft blue. It feels like you're in a float room aboard a giant spaceship. The feel of the room is fantastic. The tank itself is tall and wide. It's almost perfect, but I have noticed a rare soft "knock" sound when floating in this tank. It's not major, but it has knocked me out of deep meditation a few times. This is one of my favourite tanks. Tank #5 - This is one of their Float Pools. Unlike the others, this is not an enclosed tank. It's an open pool. It's probably perfect for anyone who's claustrophobic. The walls around the pool are tiled and there's not really a space age feel to it. It's nice though. The size of the room next to the pool is on the small side, but the pool itself is wide. There are a couple things I don't like about this pool. First, there's a bright blue overhead light that turns on when your float is done. In my opinion, it hits you like walking out of a movie theater on a sunny day. Not the most relaxing way to emerge from sensory deprivation. I've also noticed a slightly cool draft the last 5 to 10 minutes of my float. Tank #6 - This is one of their Float Pools. It's not an enclosed tank. It's an open pool. It's probably great for anyone who's claustrophobic. The walls around the pool are tiled and there's not really a space age feel to it. It's nice though. The size of the room next to the pool is on the small side, but the pool itself is wide. I've noticed a slightly cool draft the last 5 to 10 minutes of my float in this room. One of the things I enjoy about Float On is the rainbow coloured LED shower heads that change colour. It's a fun touch. Their shampoo also smells like 7-Up or Sprite. It makes me smile. I also like that, when your float is done, they play calm music to ease you out of your relaxing float. Although I really like Float On, I was charged once for one of my unlimited free floats. The issue was resolved quickly though. However, I have been asked to pay for a couple of my other free floats a couple times before reminding them that the floats are free. Their online booking system also isn't currently set up (at the time of this review) to recognize when you've qualified for free floats. These aren't major issues, but if you get a membership, keep an eye on what you're charged. That said, I've had the deepest meditation experiences of my life at Float On. I always feel really relaxed after a float here, and I would recommend the place to anyone. It's a great experience. read more

First time floating here, I called and asked for a room recommendation. They told me which rooms were best for me, and I mentioned I didn't want to be cold, so they recommended the pod. So fast forward to the session itself, the girl was very nice in introducing me to the space. I showered, then hopped in. When you float, the top half of your chest and stomach and arms are exposed to the air, and I immediately noticed I was cold. I tried to wait and let myself adjust to the temperature, but the cold was so distracting, I was so aware of the parts of me exposed to the air. So I tried to peek my head out and call for help in raising the temperature. No one came. I was in my birthday suit with a thick hardening layer of salt on me, so next I tried to call the front desk. I called multiple times with no answer. I tried to send a text, no response. So finally I put on a robe and waddled out to the front, which was empty. I called for help, and finally someone appeared, and I explained to them I was cold, and could they please turn the temperature up. By now about 30 minutes of my 1.5 hour session had passed. I went back in the room, tried to take a really hot shower to warm up my body, then reentered the pool. There was about a 5 minute window where I felt warm enough to try to relax, and then the cold hit me again. For some reason the room stayed cold even after I asked them to turn on the heat. I started to try splashing myself with the warm water, I could feel my stomach gurgling from discomfort of being exposed to the cold air. Finally I made the call as I was sitting in fetal position in the salt and dark, this wasn't working for me, and I don't have to keep trying to make it work when I was so physically uncomfortable. So I turned on the light, checked the time, I had about 30 minutes remaining. I took another long hot shower and washed all the salt off my body and out of my hair. It's a ton of salt. After I came out and explained my experience, the girl offered that my next float be free. But I'm not really sure I'd want to come back. I do wish it had been easier for me to find/talk to someone when I needed help, and I'm not sure why I felt no temperature difference after the fact. It's a bit disappointing as I was looking forward to that weightless, floating in space feeling. But it's hard to relax when you're so aware of where the water ends and where the air is hitting your skin. This is the very first time I've floated so first off I'd recommend reading the previous reviews as there are good details shared below. What I'd add is that the copy on their site says you don't need to bring anything and I'd amend that to say bring whatever personal items you need to shower. A towel, a robe, plastic slippers, shampoo, liquid bath gel, earplugs, swabs, petroleum jelly for any cuts and tissues are offered. No comb and no washcloth. It's a bit tricky to shower off and vacate the room within the 10 minutes suggested. There is considerable salt on your body and with their low-flow water pressure and nothing other than your hands and soap to remove all that salt, it takes some time. I'd asked where I could dry my hair before and after my soak and was directed to the bathroom. It happens to be the only bathroom so a line was forming while I dried my hair and it affected the room turnover time. So, while they were nice enough to allow me to do so, it's not really something they should suggest they can accommodate. Today there was construction outside so there was constant noise getting in the way of my sensory deprivation. They should have disclosed that to me beforehand, I think. But by the end of the float the jackhammering stopped and the music came on telling me my float was over...and THAT was when my euphoria kicked in. All of a sudden I was not feeling my body at all and my thoughts evaporated. That was the sensation I was hoping for! So, next time I will definitely try to incorporate atmospheric music into my float. read more

I love coming here to float! As soon as you walk in the door the place just feels tranquil. There are six different rooms you can book an appointment to float in, each with slightly different characteristics. The first time I did a float the attendant walked me through the entire process and provided a lot of great tips on how to have a great float. You can just sense the staff's enthusiasm about floating. The rooms have everything you need, including a shower to use before and after you float, moisturizer to use afterwards. This review is a bit late..... as I tried Float On when they first opened (and had really good deals on Groupon!) Not going to lie, it was extremely weird and something I've never done before. Not sure it even serves the purpose it claims to serve. Or maybe it was just me not using it correctly. Basically, you lay in a sound-proof, light proof tank in about ten inches of water and just... "forget about the world". Well it was hard for me to do that, because I tried drowning myself (not suicide, just to see if it will work). Well it doesn't, and you will literally be floating in ten inches of water for 90 minutes haha. The people working were super nice. If I remember correctly, they even give you tea and chocolate too! Location is super sketch, even on the inside, but it works given the nature of their business. In the end, it was something new, neat, and weird to try. I think everyone should try something like that whether it actually works or not. read more

WOW! I have never gotten such a cool response from a business owner before. I really like how he addressed my concerns: "Hi Lisa! I wanted to respond to your review, first to say that I'm glad you enjoyed your experience, and second to let you know that we've been upgrading our rooms and have addressed almost all of your concerns. We've been taking the tanks out of the rooms one by one and spending a week on each float room doing new construction and adding pebble tiled floors. All the rooms now have brighter lights for showering and dressing, as well as dim lights for during the float. Salt... just gets on everything. We wipe down surfaces between floats but in the end it's an impossible battle. Pebble tile looks and feels much nicer on your feet. Old door is gone (it was actually only off it's hinges in preparation of construction). New trashcans in rooms Fan has been replaced, and new fan is hidden from view." read more

Super cool. We had the Mercury (Merc Perk) discount which got us in for half price. It was our first time and it was pretty amazing. I wish we had float tanks in Sacramento... Just make sure you get all your experimenting out of the way up front. I tried to switch positions mid float and it really threw me off. Float On indeed. I've floated once before with mixed feelings about the experience. I'm fully into and support the idea of utilizing the experience to detach from your physical body and try to use that for deeper meditation and internal reflection. All the woo woo aside it's just a really nice relaxing way to focus and feel reinvigorated. My previous experience was at a place that has float tanks but a big difference was that Float On ONLY does float tanks. They've got this dialed for sure. The rooms are all thoughtfully laid out with top of the line equipment and modern clean lines and/or quaint cozy design. A little bit of every taste so you can find a room you love and if you become a regular book your fav spaces. While a single float is expensive it's worth the attempt and I would recommend trying it a handful of times to figure out how best to utilize it for you. It'll take you time to start to find your peace, stay still for so long or even figure out the right head/neck height if the natural float position isn't comfortable for you. They are here to help and happy to do so. They gave me 3 different types of neck/head floats as my previous experience my face was too far into the water. The salinity level here seemed to be enough to keep my eyes comfortably out of the water. But I did try all options in the end to see what worked best for me. They have everything you need from shower flips, to towels, robe and after water cotton swabs and ear drops if necessary. And PERsonally the topper to all of their care and thoughtfulness is the free tea. A whole slew of loose leafs with big mugs and honey to make it perfect... it really is these kinds of touches that win me over. Pro tip: They do offer a 1/2 price float on your birthday week. To book that find what room and time you'd like and just email them requesting a bday float with that info. Look a week or two ahead of time. Bring your ID and payment method when you check in. Just completed my first float. Pretty cool and I think the next time will be better after managing anticipation etc. All Pros: clean place with plenty of privacy. Very friendly staff who intro you to how it works. Everything you will need is in your private float room. My sore hip from running was feeling great and my mind was on cloud nine. Great rooms and wonderful customer service. Covid screening practice is top notch. We've been going here for a few years and must say initially their customer service felt a bit cold. I went back for my birthday this year! I didn't bump into walls, I was able to breathe easily (and when it felt stuffy, I opened the door for a few minutes), I was easily able to tell when my time was up, I loved the kombucha tap out in the lobby and I really can't think of anything I didn't like. Float was okay, could have been a little quieter though. When we first got there the lobby reeked of weed (theres a dispensary out back so it probably always smells like that.) Nobody is there to check you in at first, so it was kinda confusing. The guy that checked us out was kind of a douche, just seemed like a typical macho-meat head. When I used the bathroom the toilet was unflushed which was pretty gross. I know its not really their fault someone didn't flush their dookie, but it was still pretty nasty. When we were taken back to our rooms we got a tour of how to use the tank (don't know why, its just a bathtub so how hard could it be to figure out..) The float was decent, definiately a trip. I kept hearing dripping from the shower though so that was a bummer. I could also hear people talking real loud, probably the meat-head by the sound of it. All in all you should try it out. Its a lot cooler than I thought it was gonna be. Might be back soon, might also try another float place in town. read more
