This company is a case study on terrible customer service. I worked with them in 2010 for a flooring repair of engineered hardwood floors - no complaint then. I have a new/similar project and it's been about 2.5 months of literally chasing these guys down, getting told to speak with numerous different contacts who all tell me something different. I finally had someone on-site to measure and provide me a quote for the work. After not hearing from them for 10 days after the appointment, I had to email and call multiple times only to learn that they are referring me to speak with someone else who I'm still not sure is within the Floor King organization or not. I now have to wait for his call to see if he can even do the work and what he needs for a quote. It's like having to beg them to take my business, and worse, I've waited 2.5 months now to basically start over at square one. I do not recommend anyone working with Floor King - as a new or repeat customer. Awful and a HUGE waste of time. read more

Run the other direction and don't even look back. My wife and I had been dreaming of new floors for our house for over a year. We saved and saved, and finally had enough money to start looking for laminate flooring. We didn't have a ton to spend, but after talking to friends that had already had laminate flooring installed in their homes, we found out we had enough saved to get something pretty nice. I read reviews of this place online, and decided we would shop here. After pricing out several options, we decided on a floor and color, and that's when the nightmare started. We told the salesperson what we were looking for, and she gave us several options to choose from. We had a specific thickness minimum we wouldn't go below, and she told us what she was showing us was within that specification. It wasn't. It arrived at the house when the guys came to install, and it was noticeably thinner than what we were told. In the world of laminate flooring, thinner=cheaper. After negotiating price over again, and talking to the salesperson, she convinced us this was still a good floor. We proceeded installing, and it was finished. Well, not completely. They didn't order enough the first time and had to order more. They came back out a few days later and finished it. After about a month and a half, we started noticing problems. The floor had hollow places under it, and had started to buckle in several places. They attempted to blame this on us because they said they couldn't leave enough gap to allow the floor to expand because we bought the wrong trim for the baseboards. We bought the trim they told us to. Even bought one a little thicker just to be on the safe side. They had to rip back up about a third of what they laid down to fix it. It's been a months' long headache from start to finish. Please, do yourself a favor, and shop somewhere else, unless you like spending your hard-earned money on sub-par service, products, and installation. read more

We had to replace the carpet in our home due to water damage. Floor King was our insurance's 'prefered' vendor so they came out and measured. We then went to their showroom and chose 3 carpet samples. The entire time I was discussing carpet with Phil, it was like pulling teeth...he was very uninterested. I told Phil that we were getting other bids and asked him to get us estimates within a week. I made sure Phil had my email, phone number etc. I told Phil that we were going to make a decision by the end of the week so he knew our timeline. Well, I guess $8,000.00 of carpet does not interest Floor King because I never received a bid! I called to followup and never received a returned phone call. Very rude and such a waste of time. There are plenty of other carpet stores in Austin to choose from, so I'd skip right over Floor King if I were you. It will only frustrate you. read more

Floor King did a great job with my floors. Ethel did a good job by not overwhelming me with a lot of choices as per my request. I bought an engineered hardwood to replace some old cheap laminate I installed years ago. Joe and his crew worked diligently for two days installing the floors in my main living areas. I also got new taller molding placed around the areas. As I had just had my walls repainted the week before, I appreciated the care they took when removing the old molding. I only found two small dings that needed touching up afterward. Mike installed the molding and it looks fantastic. What a difference! He brought me samples to choose from, explained pros and cons of each. He came back the next day to begin installing and had it done in two days. Having had quite a bit of work done these past few months I really appreciate the way the Floor King crews cleaned up after themselves and the respect they showed my property. I will definitely use them again for future flooring needs. read more

Great experience. Professional, great workman. Good product. After water damage my insurance suggested Floor King, I was leery, but shouldn't have been. Philip, salesman, brought samples to my house, ordered one I requested. The crew moved furniture, hung plastic, and removed the old floor quickly, even saving the tile on the stair risers and being careful where the floor touched tile and carpet. Crew was well supervised and finished product is excellent. Highly recommend. I thought they were a chain, but found out it is locally owned ..how great is that. We recently purchased laminate and tile flooring for installation in three rooms. The whole experience was one we will not soon forget. The first attempt resulted in a seam that was appx 4 inches inside of the entrance way and not in alignment with the room entrance or walls. In addition, they installed white half round trim where stained trim should have been. The sales rep - Ethel - said we could purchase our own decorative tile since what the company purchased - was not the color we requested. When I called to tell Ethel that we purchased our own tile, she simply said it was too late to change the order and I was charged for tile we did not use. I had to call the inspector to come out and look at the floor. The inspector took notes and a week later - Floor King made a second attempt to correct the problem. Despite an email from me to the sales rep on how they could easily correct the problem, the Floor King crew cut the laminate back - too far into the room and installed another row of tile - odd since the other two sides of the entrance way had two rows and not three. When I pointed this out to the crew - the response was - we follow what is written on the sheet. I contacted the management team at Floor King on Research Blvd. I was assured that they would be back the next day to fix the problem. The individual that showed up the next day simply stated that he could not fix the floor. Floor King had to re-order flooring, tear up the laminate and relay the floor the following weekend. In all, my wife and I collectively spent five days of our time waiting on the installation, were charged for tile that was not used and experienced a great deal of frustration to get something that is marginally acceptable. You can judge for yourself, but I for one will not buy services from this business (South Lamar or the main Office, Research Blvd) in the future. read more

We are in the middle of a terrible experience with them. They have stood our renters up twice for installation, with no resolution in sight. They have no-called, no-shown both times, leaving our renters sitting around all day waiting, only to realize they've wasted their entire day. Unless they come through with a miracle solution, I would strongly advise you to look elsewhere for your flooring needs. read more

This was a great experience. We were building a new house and didn't like the builder's price for floors, so we stopped in to compare. We wanted wood floors and were looking at a little more than 1600 sq ft. They were able to beat our builder's price by over 50%. Ethel was a pleasure to work with. The install went well. The price was competitive but the value was poor. The final wood flooring that I got in my house had some defect and the Floor King Sales Rep. although acknowledged it, did not bother to do any ting about it. Not Very professional either. I am glad I did not get more work done with them at one go. I would not recommend them to any one. read more

I searched several stores for carpet. I finally decided on Floor King. Ethyl was very helpful and knowledgeable. She was actually able to get me a better carpet than I expected for the same price as a lower grade carpet. Nelson installed the carpet and was neat. They worked all day without a break and were very neat and tidy. I'm installing wood floors next and will return to Floor King! I don't know how you could give a bad review to this store read more

After getting a great price and excellent installation from Floor King on my tile work, I went to them to get my new carpet and linoleum. They did not disappoint. The price was good and I really appreciated Craig's recommendations. I need carpet that will survive three active little dogs and clean up well. I am very happy with my new flooring and will definitely go back to Floor King for all my future needs. read more

I'm only giving them 1 star because Yelp won't allow me to give them a rating of 0. We decided to go with Floor King for our laminate flooring because they beat a quote we had gotten from another source. Ethel, an older woman who helped us with our order, apparently made a mistake with our quote (unbeknownst to us at the time) and refused to return our calls. After several attempts to reach her, we called the store and spoke to a man named Gregory. He came to our home and measured the space and was nice enough then. He assured us that he could help us but told us that we would have to pay double the price that Ethel quoted us (probably why she didn't bother to return our calls). Later, we came into the store to negotiate the price. He was able to come down to a price that we could agree to and assured us that we would have our floors done within a certain time frame as we were expecting out of state guests. The day before he had scheduled us for the flooring to be installed, we gave him a call to double check on some details. It was then that he told us that they couldn't get the materials in until several weeks after our scheduled date. He also admitted that he knew they wouldn't be able to meet the job deadline the week before but didn't call us because he was getting ready to go on vacation and just didn't bother. Apparently, his personal life takes priority over business commitments. A simple phone call or text would have been sufficient. The customer service this guy provides is not only less than desirable, it's downright rude. His attitude and manner in which he speaks relays that he would much rather not be bothered and that he sees his customers as a nuisance. Still needing to have our floors done and having paid in full upfront, we asked for other flooring options or for a discount since they were unable to meet their own deadline or to notify us when they knew it would not be possible. He seemed to take great offense to this and the rude factor continued to increase. He wouldn't let my husband or I complete a full sentence without interrupting us or cutting us off and eventually just said that he would refund our money. I wish that I had read the reviews here before walking into the store. I see that we aren't the only ones who have had a less than stellar experience with Gregory and the Floor King. We have had the same experience with this company. We went there, spoke with Craig (who was later fired), and everything was planned to deliver what we requested. We then went there to finalized the plans (our house was now being closed on) and Ethel took our contract over. She informed us that Craig would be fired the next week and she would be taking over. I must say, Craig came to our house, had things measured, and seemed extremely interested in making sure our flooring project ($25K total) would be completed. Once Ethel took over, it was apparent that she was not Craig. She did not come or send anyone to our house to confirm the information or make sure the project could be completed. When our flooring was almost completed, it was clear that the stairs would not be done as we originally thought and material had to be ordered to complete the job correctly. Ethel, who would not respond in a timely manner, finally told us this would be ordered. A week later, she then stated that she did not realize we wanted it ordered. Five weeks later, the material still was not in, our stairs had not been completed, and the staff did not even tack the carpet down where the floor and carpet met (although we had been informed they would be there in a week). We continually emailed Ethel wanting to close the account and settle up and apparently our corrected version of the contract was too much for her to handle; therefore, she gave it to a supervisor. Funny thing is that the ending contract was over the amount of the original one even though the work on the stairs was NOT completed. Her supervisor than gave a quote which had to be re-estimated about three times for him to finally come down to the appropriate amount and the work NOT completed taken off the bill. Needless to say, Ethel had no interest in our business or interest, she stated that she was to share the commission with Craig (which I assume is partly why she did not have an interest) and just lacked professionalism and courtesy to finish a job. Her lack of interest in our business (again was going to be $25K) was apparent. We have another family member that went there to try and get an estimate and they turned away after they realized that she would not be the person that they would want in charge. I am not sure if she got frazzled when she made to many mistakes and just would not own up to her responsibility in it or what. Either way, my husband will finish the work. After watching all the mistakes our builder made and assuming that Floor King would take the job seriously since this is their business to do so, my husband can do FAR better work than they could ever provide. I don't think it is just one person there either. I think they are most likely having staff problems period. I overheard another customer complaining that their sales rep. did not contact them back with information that they needed to make their decision and they ended up having to go in the store to ask what was happening. They appeared quite agitated. Gosh guys, you do get commission on these contracts right? You would think it would be in your interest to fulfill them appropriately then. Unless you don't think anything under a certain dollar amount is worthy of you taking. read more
