The shop is in a classic downtown building and was the first florist in Monterey way back when. Which is perfect because the first theatre in California is just a couple of blocks away. Lots of history here, including old fashion customer service. And we all know how scarce a commodity that can be. The plan was to dash in, survey for a small arrangement already made up, and dash back to the bank I came from, where I had promised flowers to a Chase bank teller who had gone above and beyond for me. But the woman who had warmly greeted me at the flower shop had an idea or two about what the occasion called for, and I started to realize my mission should be placed in her hands. She suggested a bowl for the flowers over a wrap, as the teller may not have had access to a vase. Good idea! I ended up with a very unique, custom made arrangement in nary 10 minutes. Plus, the shop had the perfect box to place the bowl of flowers in that still displayed the flowers in clear view. I had never seen such a container before and again this was the perfect thing! They were originally just going to do our centerpieces and we were planning to work with another florist that was a friend of the family for the bouquets and boutonnieres. Our plans fell through with the other florist about 3 months before the wedding and I reached out to Imalay to see if she'd be able to do our bouquets, boutonnieres, and corsages for the wedding. SO pleasantly surprised and satisfied with this last minute gamble! In my florist search throughout Monterey, I was shocked by the amount of Florists with a minimum requirement of $5,000+. This was a brutal discovery for me, as my Venue was so rich with color and charm, it did not require an abundance of flowers to make it beautiful. I was banking on this fact, and budgeted $3,000 for my Wedding flowers, and had a very simplistic and classic flower agenda. Whites, greens, succulents. My request: seven bouquets, nine boutonnieres, twenty-three 6ft garland strands, two archway arrangements. That's it. No additional ceremony flowers. No cocktail table/hour flowers. No cake/dessert table flowers. Literally, nothing else. I contacted maybe fifteen different flower shops around the area and at first, put a deposit down with Swenson & Silacci Flower Shop. After spending way too much time researching, they were the first without a minimum cost requirement, and were located but a block away from my Venue. Seemed perfect. Unfortunately, flash forward to a month before the Wedding, and the quote skyrocketed. Their original pricing nearly doubled to $8,000, with an $800 delivery/setup charge. All while removing nearly all succulents from my order, as they were "complex" and "pricey". In sticker-shock and time-frame stressed, I began to make frantic moves to figure out how to make my simple Wedding flower dreams come true without filing for bankruptcy. This is when I called Flor de Monterey, and reached Vena! Miraculously, she had my date available, ONE month before the Wedding and quoted me $2,800, out the door, with taxes, delivery and setup included, for EVERYTHING I wanted and more. They added babies breath and white roses to the garland, included all the succulents I wanted, and literally brought my Wedding floral dreams to life. Throughout the process Vena was responsive, easily accessible, and handled my last minute requests with ease and efficiency. They were able to deliver our bouquets to our Hotel across town and everything else to the Venue and setup without issue. It was seemless; which is truly every Bride's dream. Of course, as for any last minute decision, I was reluctant and skeptical. But I made a gut decision, and it paid off. I was blown away by the day-of results, and couldn't have been happier. Terrible experience, since this business is under new ownership they treated me and our floral for my wedding without a care, the bare minimum. When I emailed them after my wedding to discuss what went wrong they had all the excuses, told me they didn't buy enough of the eucalyptus/floral due to the shortage, my bridal bouquet was small as if it were a bridesmaids bouquet, the corsages weren't complete bracelet corsages as they were supposed to be, and would not compensate for any of it because "they paid for my floral" since I paid the previous owner. How does that make any sense and why would you tell a customer that, beats me but I would NOT recommend this company with this new ownership/management! read more

I recently was involved with a wedding hosted by Wedgewood in Carmel. While the flowers were beautiful, the order wasn't right and our salesperson (owner?) clearly didn't want the job. We were promised a refund for the BRIDESMAID BOUQUETS they forgot, but a month later there has been no communication or refund on the missing flowers. Wedgewood was 1000% amazing. Not happy with Flor De Monterey at all. Went with them due to them being a preferred vendor with Wedgewood and the 4.5 star rating. At first everything looked great, they were friendly and willing to start the flower order. The pricing quote I got was steep, however I did expect it for asking for different flowers besides roses. My fiancé was more picky about his boutonnière so I was told that we would be able to email with a final decision when we paid the last installment. When we placed the final payment, I emailed the business and let them know that final payment was done, one of my bridesmaids would not be attending (had a baby! Woohoo), and that my fiancé wanted a ranunculus for his boutonnière. I never got a response confirming that they received my email, I even called the business a few times as well and no answer. I even had to check online to make sure that they were still open! I finally got in touch with them when I asked wedgewood to intervene. On the morning of my wedding day, I got a phone call from one of the staff telling me that the final payment never went through and I needed to pay. I was shocked! The sheer audacity to call a bride the morning of her wedding asking for money when there was confirmation 10 days before that it had been paid off was irritating. Cleared that up fast when they realized that it was an error in their system. I will say that the flowers were beautiful, however the ribbon around the stem of my bouquet was stained and my husbands boutonnière didn't last through the ceremony and all of our pictures have a wilted boutonnière.
