Everything we got was very delicious! The tlayuda tipical was huge and the meats had a nice smoky flavor. The bean paste and the crunchy tostada went well with everything. The shrimp entree had a really addicting creamy sauce. The rice was fluffy and the beans were yummy. I wish there was a bit more shrimp or they used jumbo shrimp since they were quite small. An Honest review about the food. $60 for 2 people 2 beverages and 2 meals But first...This place has a gorgeous atmosphere, truly 5 stars for charm, décor, and overall ambiance. If you're looking for a lovely setting to catch up with friends or enjoy a quiet date, it's absolutely worth a visit for the surrounding. But food is ok. It doesn't have the homemade feel. It doesn't match the energy. I had high hopes, especially for the mole. As a chef and a regular at Restaurant Mary's off Main (where abuelitas are behind the simmering pots), I've been spoiled by deeply stewed, slow-loved mole. Unfortunately, the mole here felt rushed--more surface-level in flavor, and paired with a very mature, fibrous chicken that lacked tenderness. I give it a 2 out of 10. The chile relleno looked beautiful on the plate, but the flavor didn't quite deliver. Presentation was a 10, execution a 3. Service was kind, but considering we were the only guests, I expected more attentiveness. I give it a 3. Lastly, a heads-up: they use artificial dyes in their drinks (including red dye), which is something I personally avoid for health reasons. Final thought: Come for the atmosphere, take lots of pictures, but manage your expectations when it comes to the mole and relleno. This place is amazing. Not only the best mole I've ever had (I'm not Mexican but I love mole and so will you if you come here), everything else was also amazing. The mole negro was perfectly balanced; just the correct hint of chocolate and just slightly sweet with all the other complex flavors you'd expect from a good mole. Mole coloradito was also very good. The chicken that came with the mole was cooked perfectly; tender and juicy. The rice was flavorful and not an after thought. The tortilla was homemade and fresh. I've had oaxacan food in the past and it's something I just needed to try again. I was in the area and found these guys through here. So we came in and it was very busy even for a small place. It was very well decorated. Waited maybe a couple of minutes and got the only table right next to the cash register. Already off to a bad start since everyone comes up either to wait or pay right next to you. Standing by the front door and facing us is a man with an acoustic guitar and a mic playing music. From the time we sat down, ordered and got our plates it was just about an hour of waiting. Nothing against the guy playing but I cherished every moment of silence between each song. It was simply too loud. I was contemplating just canceling and leaving but then the food arrived. I got the tasajo plate and a jarritos to wash it down. The plates seemed a little small for the price but the presentation and taste were great. The chips and mole weren't bad either. We ordered the plantain with cream dessert to finish it off and it was just amazing. I think that was the highlight of the night. The food was good, the wait time not so much. The mole was incredible and I would order that again in a heartbeat. My wife had camarones de ajo (garlic shrimp) and it was good. We had the nopales appetizer and I thought it was pretty bland. If you like nopales, maybe you'll think differently. The service was fantastic and this place is a small gem located in Santa Ana. Going to an event at the Bowers so thought we would try something in the area. It's a small restaurant in a strip mall but service was prompt and pleasant. We tried the Delicias de Oaxaca platter loaded with different filled masa items and dried beef, marinated pork, chorizo and chicharron. Service is so warm, welcoming and friendly. It feels as if you're visiting a family member's home for dinner. Thankfully my gf can read Spanish because the menu is all in Spanish which was cool because it just makes it that much more authentic. I tried the torta and asked for Chicken instead of beef and I added cheese to it. Oh man it was so delicious I had pollo a la plancha and it went perfectly in the torta. Nice find in the city of Santa Ana. Wanted a brunch spot after leaving Newport and landed here. The dishes were unique which caught our eye. Tluyuda which is like a really large, lighter version of a tostada with 3 types of meat. Cesina steak, pork and chorizo. Really good and really unique. Too large for one person, so beware. I tried the goat barbacoa which was tasty, but didn't have a lot of meat. Thankfully the consommé was delish and my GF wasn't going to finish her tluyuda, so we had plenty of food. Also tried the quesadilla dorados which were tasty as well. Only issue was we were starving and hoped the appetizer would come out first, but it didn't. All the food came out at the same time, which took a while. Thank goodness for the free chips with mole and salsa or we wouldn't have made it. Speaking of mole, it was fabulous on the chips. Maybe should have orders the pollo en mole. Next time. The horchatas were good too. Different than I am used to. Not as sweet and as you can see had an interesting topping. Hibiscus maybe?
