We scrambled for a last-minute change of plans, and it turned out to be absolutely perfect. They were incredibly accommodating: we hosted the birthday party right in the studio, decorated the space, brought our own food and non-alcoholic drinks, and set up a special designated area for the birthday girl and her friends. Laura and Bob were beyond patient and so helpful with the kids, guiding them every step of the way to make sure everything came out just right. The selection of pottery pieces is huge (overwhelming in the best way) and they even surprised us with a complimentary plate featuring all her friends' little fingerprints. What a thoughtful touch! It was such a fun, creative day, and everyone stayed nice and dry. Highly recommend for families, especially when plans go sideways.

I walked up to the front door 3 min early to wait. They let me in a minute early unexpectedly, which was kind. My mission? To order balloons for a friend's husband's 60th birthday which is happening at another friend's house tomorrow. Rebecca helped me at the front, explaining how I choose balloons, pay for them, and then she would fill out an order form for my exact request. Latex balloons are 12 for $12. I decided I wanted the mylar ones because my friend wanted gold and silver balloons and they were shinier. I chose 1 round black one with 60 on it and silver and gold confetti design, then two gold and three silver balloons of different shapes. I'll post pictures of them when I pick them up tomorrow. I was in and out of there in 10 minutes. Rebecca was kind, patient, and helpful. I also purchased the weights to hold the balloon arrangements since the party would be outside. You can choose what color ribbon so I chose matching as opposed to white. I'm thrilled Michael's has balloons now! It's super convenient. You order ahead of time in person or online (not on the phone). Additional notes on pickup day: the balloons were ready for 1p.m. pickup as requested. Very pleased with the result. The one on Mountain use to be my go to place. Imagine me walking from the Montclair Mall to Micheal's on Mountain inUpland for fabrics. The other day I was in Micheal's La Verne waiting for my ride when another costumer was talking about the stores and Joan's closing. I told her this Micheal's would be my favorite if only they carried fabric. One of the employees walked by and overhead the conversation and said to us "OH we would be carrying fabric starting next month. That was in January. Almost everyone chose to do one with a couple exceptions. Even if you didn't do one you were able to seat with the group and interact. They have a vast variety of options and definitely something for every person to enjoy! The prices vary by the sizes of the items chosen and once you choose something, you select your colors. They have a guide to show how the will look after cured since the colors don't look the same as when you are applying it. They were only out of 1 color which wasn't a big deal. You get to choose up to 5 colors but since we were a big group some shared an extra color or two with others. We had about 2 hrs to work on it and once we were done we left them. About 1 week later the organizer brought the finished products into the office. This is a fun and unique experience for those who don't mind getting a bit dirty. The paint does easily come out with a wash so no need to worry.

The "party space" was cluttered with inventory, drying racks, paper rolls, and painting supplies, making it feel more like overflow workspace than a reserved party area. The party table itself was barely separated from the rest of the store setup, which made the experience feel no different than simply walking in and paying the regular studio fee. We only had five painters, and honestly we could have paid the standard studio fees ($50) and received essentially the exact same experience. The only noticeable difference the extra cost provided was a chalkboard sign with a very sweet handwritten note to the birthday girl. I do want to emphasize that the two young women working were extremely kind, helpful, and clearly doing their best. My disappointment is not with the staff, but with the facility setup and the value of what is being marketed as a "party package." At the current price point, the space and accommodations simply do not justify the significant upcharge for what was provided.

MY NEW FAVORITE PLANT NURSRY!!!!!…read more I used to go to those commercialized stores to buy small indoor plants, but I have noticed those stores don't carry a lot of different varieties and tend to limit their supply only for some of the popular ones we usually see in the neighbor's front yard. However, since becoming a plant person in 2020, I decided to turn my little office space into a garden and better feng shui as well. So I was SURPRISED to find this hidden gem in Claremont on our lazy Saturday afternoon stroll in the neighborhood. Once I stepped inside of the nursery, I was so excited that I explored every single corner of the nursery to make sure I did not miss anything they have to offer!!! I showed the owner a plant I have been searching everywhere for and she was like, oh yeah, its right here! this little one. This Michael's is a bit out of my way, but I went there yesterday because I needed black poster…read moreboard which was out of stock in La Verne. It appears bigger and seems to have more variety of things than my local Michael's. Like another Yelper mentioned, they have a balloon service and yesterday they had at least 5 balloon bouquets ready to be picked up! I wish I had taken a picture. It is a bit of a maze but since I was talking to my daughter on the phone anyway, I walked every aisle and appreciated all the variety of items available, from figurines for DIY dollhouses or dioramas, to fabrics, to dozens of types of yarn, to silk flowers, to frames, to paper products such as the black poster board I needed. Two staff up front helping people, even though you basically use a touchscreen--one was guiding an older customer how to navigate the touchscreen, and the other was helping a young person use her gift card. Michael's is just a place that makes me happy to walk into because it's bright, inviting, and allows people to explore or dive deeper into their creative side.
