Floras is a quaint little wine bar in West Newton. Outdoor seating is limited but awesome in the nice weather. The inside has more tables and a bar. Service is always on point. Staff is awesome. They have tacos on the menu and they come fully loaded. About $6.50 each I think, it's not your standard wine bar food, but I highly recommend getting them. They are delicious. Even the chips and guacamole were good enough to rival a local Mexican place. The marscapone cheese board is one of my favorite things here. Topped with honey, crushed walnuts and blackberries, it's a delicious medley. It comes with toasted bread as well. You can smear on the spread and get a bit of salt and sweet with the creamy, rich cheese. They offer wine and cocktails as well. Bottles are reasonably priced. Good selections. Floras is the type of spot you would see in back bay or south end. It's cool that Newton has it. I can't say enough good things. read more

We came too late where the kitchen was closed! We were trying to hit a spot for a late night date night- So this is for the bar only. They did have drinks available and a full bar so the bartender can make you whatever you want. I ordered the espresso martini and the 02465. 02465 wasn't overly sweet and I did enjoy the fruit favored, I actually smelt the citrus before I drank it and it was lovely. Everyone was cool and we were able to chat with some local patrons. We def will go back maybe on a Tuesday for their taco nights. read more

Quaint, cozy, locally sourced ingredients- such a gem! We stopped in on a rainy afternoon to have wine a few apps. We loved the customized cheese plate and the bowl of mixed olives. One thing I will say is this is the best priced spot for the food!! The mixed olives was a truly decent bowl for $7 and honestly the olives were fantastic! The cheese plate had a few select options. The bartender asked us what we didn't like and what our preferences were. It was so nice to have such a citrates section with pickles, mustards, pickled mushrooms and goat cheese. A most disappointing visit. We had high hopes based on other reviews, but the main barkeep was in a foul mood and did not appreciate my request to try a different libation after being very unimpressed with the glass of bourdeaux I chose. (Don't try the bourdeaux). We ordered the pretzels with cheese, and the cheese tasted like it probably came from the grocery section of a gas station. The vibe was promising but the overall experience pretty much killed it for us. James, one of the other servers, was very nice though. Better luck to anyone else. read more

My friend told me about Flora during summer of 2020. She said they had outdoor seating, which was ideal for during the pandemic. But it took me until late summer of 2021 to make it there. And I went back a few weeks later. The servers/owners are SO friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. The wine choices are obviously great. The charcuterie board, while pricey, is AMAZING. My party (2 people) clearly told the waiter we had limited time (45 min), and we decided to order something (we thought) would be very simple: a board of cheese and cold cuts with some wine. How long can it take to slap some cheese and mortadella on a board? Well, we got the food 40 minutes after, we had to stuff our face and run. Ok why is everyone giving this place 5 stars? I mean was I just unlucky this time around? I was in the area and I've been meaning to check this place out. I was hoping it to be an excellent experience, but boy was it not. From the moment I walked into this place to the moment I left, it was not a pleasant experience. I had one lady who was young pour me a water. They don't have actual menus. You have to scan the menu on your phone. They definitely had a nice selection of wines. I did end up trying a sparkling orange wine that was not good at all and did not have any bubbles so not sure how they can call it sparkling. I attempted to try another wine this time Red from Italy thinking that it was gonna be good and it was ok not great. I saw they had a Prosecco Rose on the menu and I just ordered that one because I know that one is good. I had nobody ask me how the wine was? Did you want any food? Nothing, it was pure silence and I was the only one in the bar with two bartenders and nobody approached me with any normal customer service or questions that you would normally ask when you're sitting at a bar or restaurant. I don't know how these places are surviving? Why do they act this way to customers? Don't they know that WE are the ones keeping their lights on. So why don't they treat us better? Wife and I heard about this place opening before the pandemic so we didn't get a chance to try it out until tonight. Definitely worth the wait. The staff were very friendly and courteous even though they were keeping busy making drink after delicious drink for the incoming happy hour guests (happy hour in name only since I've learned it's illegal in Massachusetts ...what?!?!?). My wife and I each tried a cocktail and they were unique and perfect. Then we tried a glass of a Cabernet recommended by Collin and it was amazing. WOW! Where do I even start? The staff at Flora's Wine Bar (and my planning boyfriend) gave me the best birthday celebration EVER! This place is adorable; the staff is funny, friendly and knowledgeable; the food is to die for; the drinks are delicious, cold and strong. We came here to celebrate my 25th, and Flora's pulled out all the stops. When our party sat, they brought up complimentary limoncello shots and had arranged a champagne toast. When my boyfriend booked, they recommended we order food ahead of time so our party was constantly served throughout our whole experience. Within 10 minutes of sitting down, we had drinks, waters, three cheese/meat/fish boards and the best service. We continued to order food and drinks and they even surprised me with a cake! YES, Flora's got me a cake! I felt so special!! I'm so excited this place survived COVID, and now they deserve everyone's love and support. We finally got around to visiting Flora and now I'm wishing we would have gone sooner. Our server, Colin, started us out with a complimentary tasting of his favorite Cabernet, which was excellent. We opted for cocktails, and tried the Veronica Vaughn and the Medical Permit. We enjoyed both, but I think the Veronica Vaughn was the more interesting of the two. We originally intended to get the Roasted Veggie Antipasto and the Sweet Sopressata, but Colin suggested that they could put together a board with cheese as well. The board included a delightful manchago, assorted dried fruits, toasted nuts, marinated mushrooms, crostini and a fig jam that paired well with the cheese. A pair of chocolate-dipped madeleines arrived with our check, and they were soft and delicious. We can't wait to go back! read more

Flora's is a spectacular establishment, by far the best West Newton Square has to offer. Most importantly, the owners and staff members are friendly and well-versed in the food and drinks on offer. They clearly work hard to cultivate a communal space that is welcoming to all. This is a great place to quietly read a book over a glass of wine, or chat with the bartender, or bring a friend for a shared meal, or anything in between. The cocktails are well-crafted and consistently measured. Alongside the classics, there's always some new and interesting concoction to try on the drinks menu. Also, there are multiple beers on tap and a multitude of local canned selections. The global wine selection is particularly impressive, especially given the more intimate size of the restaurant. The charcuterie and cheese selections, alongside the various small plates (such as the smoked salmon and the pretzel board), are all delicious and thoughtfully curated. Seating options are plentiful and comfortable, including hightops, regular tables, bar seats, as well as outdoor seating (with umbrellas for shade in the summer, and heaters for warmth in the colder months). The place stays open till at least 11 pm even on weeknights, which is a rare treat for the West Newton area. Flora's is always a delight to visit, and I wish it many more years of success! read more
