Pickle plate at Deep Ellum, Waltham
    Bruce K.

Looking for dinner options along Moody Street and this was an easy choice. I've been to Dallas and had a fun evening in their Deep Ellum neighborhood so why would I skip the opportunity to try it again. Lots of options here, considering we have meat eaters, pescatarians and kosher eaters in the group tonight. We started off with a plate of their pickles and they were fabulous. With it, beers! Including a draft German beer for me and a tin of a non-alcoholic for Mrs. K. For main, I chose the Italian sandwich and it was fabulous. Well loaded and very tasty if perhaps a little messy. But that's what napkins are for. Mrs. K. chose the grilled cheese and said it was excellent. Great service here and we had a fabulous evening. Five stars! Deep Ellum has made a comeback in March 2023, on Moody St in Waltham, former The Gaff space. This gastropub used to be in Allston, which closed in 2020. They are open for lunch, dinner, and late night food and drinks! The place is a bit dark with high top table seating along the wall and the long bar with seating, no TVs here. The bar offers 14 beers on tap, beer bottles, wine, spirits, and plenty of cocktails. The food menu offers an eclectic variety of small plate apps, wings, cheese boards, meat boards, salads, sandwiches, and burgers. I stopped in at Deep Ellum on Moody Street for some late night food. The place was moderately busy and I took a seat up at the bar. The bartender promptly gave me menus to look over and a glass of ice water. I did not order cocktails on this visit, just food only. I started out with the Esp Co Soft Pretzel ($6 plus tax) which was served warm with spiced mustard for dipping. Next the Griddled Pearl Hot Dog topped with kimchi & spiced mustard on a toasted New England hot dog bun ($7 plus tax) was just that, very "wasabi-like" spicy, served with pickle chips. Next, the Lentil Mushroom Burger ($14 plus tax) was comprised of a homemade soft lentil mushroom patty topped with melted Swiss cheese, shredded lettuce, mustard and pickled onions on a soft toasted kaiser bun, served with pickle chips. I also added lightly fried fries ($2 plus tax) which had a soft potato texture and a cup of tangy cole slaw ($2 plus tax). I managed to finish all of the food and I was so all set! The check was $33.17 with tax and before tip.  Overall, this gastropub is a great place to hang and chill with friends or a solo night after a long day at work. The service at the bar was friendly and my food was served fairly quick after ordering. I would definitely come back here with my buddy for the late night grub and  frosty drinks. The kitchen closes at midnight Monday-Saturday and at 11pm on Sundays

Love the bar setup and beautiful wood buildout. The Aviation cocktails were served up delightfully chilled and not too boozy - just exquisite. We really appreciated the attentiveness of the staff and their patience, as we had two under two in tow! Would come back for the burger and pickle plate!

Very impressive and innovative cocktail menu . Tons of choice for beer, cider, etc. Outstanding friendly and attentive service . Vibes and dark ambiance perfect for just about and mood.

Good and well-made drinks. I stopped in and tried their version on an Onion Smash burger, which was pretty decent, though very salty halfway through it. Generous portion. Next time, I'll try the hot dog and a few other dishes.

Our server was friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. I ordered an Old-Fashioned and my companion a glass of chardonnay, both of which came promptly and were enjoyable. After some inquiries I settled on the self-advertised fall-off-the-bone baby back ribs. My companion asked about a favorite no longer on the menu, a salad with grilled chicken, and after checking with the kitchen our server was happy to report it could be ordered. My companion asked for dressing on the side and unfortunatel the salad came out dressed. Our server was happy to return it to the kitchen and it came out after not too much time had elapsed, the way she'd ordered it. I'm always skeptical that ribs will be fall-off-the-bone but these were close. Unfortunately, they seemed a little off; I still can't decide if they were on the dry side, lacking in flavor, or both. But the meat did come off the bone easily, so there was that. They came with french fries which were good, The location is handy and there is on-site parking. The atmosphere was energetic and it must be a popular after-work place because there were several large (10+) tables occupied. Still, not sure I would go back soon when there are other comparable places in the area.

Didn't see the need to have 3 ladies standing in one spot at 6pm mid-week, looking bored at best. Plenty of high top seating in the lounge or on bar side for 2-4 people. Great place for a quick bite, after work meet/up (or even a romantic dinner if you reserve the high table near the fireplace). Waitress was very nice and attentive. Great cocktail & wine selection. Crab stuffed shrimp and an entree is plenty for 1 person. Rib eye was phenomenal. Sauce wasn't needed. Crab cakes were just ok. I didn't understand the chip like flakes that were added on top. Small portions, but yet filling. I couldn't finish the large tiramisu which was also very good. The added morsels gave it a nice touch. Overall, good for locals, nearby employees or shoppers.

We sat at the bar and were warmly greeted by the host as well as Caroline, our bartender. They also brought us out complimentary bread and focaccia as well as home made pesto. We ordered the meatballs (the best I've ever had, and my wife is Sicilian). We then shared the Chicken Parm which had the most amazing chunky sauce packed with flavor along with homemade rigatoni! This by far was one of the best meals I've had in a while! This was clearly a very Special Experience! I have been talking about it fora few days. The ambience is beautiful, warm and comforting. Our server was sweet, efficient, thoughtful and prompt. We even received a complimentary birthday dessert which was offered when our waitress overheard our discussion about this occasion. I could continue with my praises, but it is clear that I have already recommended this restaurant to many and I look forward to returning. I prefer this location now to Needham , because seating is less cramped and it is quieter, although the food is equally good. It is important to note that it is expensive, but well worth it for special occasions.

I am by no means an Indian food connoisseur, but I was glad to see a variety of more typical dishes like butter chicken, to dosas (gluten free!), idly, and specialty dishes from different regions. They were also able to accommodate a number of dietary restrictions in our group (gluten and dairy free, nut free, vegetarian, vegan), so it was a win all around. For my family, I ordered the sambar vada (gluten free lentil fritters), palak paneer (spinach and paneer cheese), Kerala fish pollichatthu. The fritters were a hit with the little one and came with a tangy sauce (sambar). The palak paneer was a very good version of this classic dish. The Kerala fish entree was my "why not" dish, mostly chosen since I know some folks from Kerala. They weren't around to give me the heads up that it would be a whole small fish cooked in banana leaves, though. I was a little surprised, but it was rather tasty, even if there amount of meat was a bit limited. I'll need to include them in my regular takeout roster in the future, and I'd love to dine in sometime too. The interior looks gorgeous from the pictures.
