    French Baguette
    Kennita A.

The baguette was the star of our lunch. Excellent service and knowledgeable staff. The bread offerings are good for being open only few weeks. Get there early for the best selection.

A local bakery that mainly works to supply bake goods to local restaurants and groceries. However, from Wednesday thru Saturday, the bakery is open to the public. Oldest daughter and I love artician bread, so the family stopped by to pick up two French baquettes and a tomato-garlic-basil foccacia. The French baguette was crusty on the outside and chewy on the inside, excellent. The foccacia was a little too thick for our preference. However, the texture and the flavor of the focccia were on point. The owner was on site and we had a nice conversation about the history of the bakery and the origin of the French baquette. Prices were inexpensive considering the freshness, high quality, and taste of the breads. We were happy we found this bakery.

The master baker is an Alpha Type 1 and does a fantastic job with sourdough bread. He also is creative with new and good breads weekly.

The color is impossibly dark - a rich, velvety brown that seems to absorb light rather than reflect it. The texture is perfection itself - smooth yet substantial, with none of the icy crystallization that plagues lesser chocolate ice creams. The first spoonful delivers an immediate cocoa explosion that's both intense and nuanced. This isn't your childhood chocolate ice cream. The flavor profile evolves dramatically as it melts on your tongue - starting with a bold, slightly bitter dark chocolate note, then mellowing into something creamier with hints of espresso and vanilla. The finish reveals subtle notes of cherry and almond that linger pleasantly. What truly sets this ice cream apart are the truffle pieces scattered throughout - not too many, not too few. These decadent morsels provide textural contrast and concentrated bursts of chocolate flavor that elevate the experience from merely delicious to transcendent. My only complaint? At $9.99 per pint, it's definitely a splurge. But for special occasions or when you need to reset your chocolate standards, this is absolutely worth the investment. Would I buy it again? Already have. Twice. Have you tried any exceptional chocolate ice creams lately? I'm always looking for recommendations to expand my frozen dessert horizons.

Service is so friendly - they both didn't stop smiling the whole time we were there. The choices were outstanding! Chocolate, cookies, lemon bars and brownies. We bought orange and raspberry sticks, chocolate Carmel brownie, peanut butter fudge and some of the best divinity fudge w've ever had! It's a cute little building and store with places to eat and have coffee inside. Well worth the 10-15 minute drive from Newport. Much better to us than the candy shops at the bay front or near the aquarium. Will definitely be back.

We had read that it was under new management and expected a full-on table service menu. Not so, we had to order and pay/tip at the counter before we got our food. We almost turned around and walked out but wanted to try the food. They are trying to get table service back but perhaps there is not enough business to bring it back. We had last stepped in here a year or so ago when it was a deli. Nothing was changed inside. My designer wife said the decor is horrible and screams WAKE ME UP! Tired white paint on the walls and almost zero artwork. There are some pieces of metal artwork in a few places on the walls but that is it. Paint is cheap and could make a world of difference with different colored window trim and wall (and the ceiling looks like it has not seen paint in years). Get some artificial plants and a couple trees. This place needs a marketing wake up call. Get on Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, and other social media and advertise. Get something to pull in people, especially locals. This is the ONLY RESTAURANT IN FLORENCE THAT IS ON THE BEACH, FOLKS! Take advantage of that fact! Even Yachats does not have a restaurant on the beach. Ona is as close as they get, and it is on the river delta near the beach. Sell some updated sweatshirts, t-shirts and hats and offer a free drink if they wear your garb on future visits. Alicia took our orders at the main desk up front and was friendly, energetic, and was very engaged with her clientele. She gave us recommendations on our food, and we loved that. We both had the smash burgers and fries, and they were excellent - exceeding our expectations. The burgers had great, fresh flavor, had yummy, melted cheese, lettuce, tomato and pickles. The sesame bun was a perfect vessel and did not fall apart. The fries were double fried and had a delicious crispy crunch. This place screams potential and needs some upgrades to bring in more business. We will be back but would really like to see it become a landmark restaurant on Florences only beach. We wish them well.
