We come here every year when we're in town because the treats are always amazing, but this year was a bit disappointing. We placed an order in person for eclairs two days in advance (a 15-20 minute drive from our camp), but when we showed up to pick them up, they hadn't made them or even seen the order. We had to drive all the way back again later that day, and when we finally picked them up--no apology, no acknowledgment of the inconvenience, and we were still charged the full $45 for six eclairs. The pastries were still good, but the lack of customer service this time really took away from the experience. Honestly, would've been happy with just an apology at least. read more

Very sweet, okay for a small town, but not particularly good. Had a buttermilk donut, sticky bun, and pig cake. The outer icing on the cake had that gross decorative frosting taste, not yummy, just sweet. The cake inside was pretty good, tasted like buttermilk. The donut was fine, a little greasy. Sticky bun was similarly sweet but otherwise meh as far as texture, taste, etc. The clerk was quite stony and her fingernails were not very clean, but who knows if she bakes. I try to stop here whenever I'm passing through. Always had helpful, friendly service and tasty treats in the past. On this trip, however, none of the ladies were to be seen and the fellow at counter was neither helpful or friendly. I was misquoted the price for sourdough bread, causing unnecessary confusion, delay, and embarrassment. Why didn't they just mark it or put up a sign? (ORS 616.860 (1), I believe, addresses this.) The sticky bun was decent, but the frosting on the maple bar was runny/drippy. The sourdough, selling at an artisan price, tasted like regular white bread. Had I not been flustered by the price confusion, I would have paid closer attention to the ingredients (such as soybean oil, cornstarch, and datem) and passed it over. The atmosphere was so different, that the first question I asked of the guy at the register was if there were new owners. read more

The 1/2 maple 1/2 chocolate cream filled donut is hands down the absolute best donut I have ever had. The breakfast sandwich on the homemade roll was huge and every bite was delicious. Everyone there was so nice, you could tell it is definitely a town favorite. we live 30 minutes away and we will be driving up just for that donut. read more

Big Foot and a hairy! My family loves the Big Foot and the buttermilk knots! Me, I cannot get past the hairy donut, aka the fuzzy, there is a hint of rum underneath the coconut coating...one can even get a fritter like that which conveys some very chewy fried/glazed outside goodness beneath that glorious crown of coconut. Just a bit deadly. One can find bargain bags of day olds which can help to economize, as well. I must contain myself when I go there. I am very happy that Sugar Shack Bakery is an hour away from my house. The reason I'm so happy about that is I would be addicted to these pastries and donuts daily! I could NOT keep my weight in control if I was any closer to this delicious Bakery. We have tried the apple fritter, the maple and chocolate covered pretzel style donut, the maple bar, the Boston cream chocolate covered with custard filling. We have tried even the turkey sandwich on fresh homemade white bread. We bought kettle corn to go. Everything is 5 stars. I felt it was a little expensive for the donuts but once you have one, you'll understand why. We have even tried the donut holes as we leave the area to drive home. They're easy to eat in the car with a cup of coffee. Even just a donut hole somehow is made more delicious than your average donut house. Sugar Shack Bakery has great service, delicious food and makes taking a vacation to Reedsport and Winchester Bay so worth every penny! If you see it driving by, do yourself a favor and get a doughnut. I would definitely recommend the chocolate custard filled, but my number one recommendation would be the pretzel style donut. I can't explain what it is, but I can tell you it's huge and you should only get one. It's a raised glazed donut with icing twisted into a pretzel shape, but it does have a drizzle of maple and chocolate frosting. It's like getting four donuts in one. Stopped here to get a basic cup of coffee and ended up having my head explode from the sheer quantity of available baked goodies. I really was only going to spend a couple bucks on a hot cup of joe, but ended up walking out with two Bigfoot maple bars, a bag of day old cinnamon rolls, and two loaves of bread. Oh, and of course my coffee. Talk about amazing! Delicious! Incredible! Soft and gooey! Sweet and perfectly baked! Threw those cinnamon rolls in the air fryer and topped with butter - holy cow! Cakes, pies, donuts, fresh breads, cookies, cinnamon rolls - you name it, they have it! The coffee is basic (self serve) and they do offer lattes, but the coffee was actually very delicious! If you have a sweet tooth or want a quick sandwich, definitely stop here. I will be driving 30 minutes from my home to pick up some treats from here more often than I'll probably admit. This is a quant and small place, and you may have a little wait as the bulk of the employees are in the back baking with their hearts and souls. Worth the wait! read more

After spending a day at the coast we headed back to Roseburg and stopped in. They were getting ready to close and the gal who helped us was very friendly. They had a good variety of pies, breads, donuts and cookies. I was surprised that a town the small had a donut shop with so many varieties. The donuts were very soft and fresh. The gal who helped us was very friendly and the shop even had brochures on things to do around Reedsport. She told us about two Escape rooms and a Discovery center across the street that she likes to take her grandkids to. She was very informative about hours of operation and cost. Reedsport, Or. We only came in for lattes because the only espresso machine in Reedsport is located here apparently. The ladies were certainly friendly, and proceeded to brew our beverages. One was instructing the other on how to do it so the whole process took awhile. While waiting I took in the whole operation here, an actual bakery with commercial oven and equipment. The emphasis appears to be cakes and doughnuts, I don't know, they must make something without sugar, like maybe bread? Our lattes tasted mostly of steamed milk. I never heard her grind the beans so it must have been the same pre grind they use for the house coffee. Pretty lackluster latte, but it was a bit better than nothing, I felt a hint of a caffeine buzz. The original carpet from the 60's is not a good look. It just appears worn and dirty. Why have carpeting anyway? I hope the ladies working there will keep on working with a smile and I truly wish them all the best. read more
