I came here with a friend. We just came to the bar for drinks. We were offered chips and salsa immediately. Chips are fresh and salsa is really good. Bartender came over and asked us what we wanted to drink. I asked for a cocktail menu. Everything on the menu was a margarita of some sort. I can't drink tequila, I asked the bartender if there was anything else on the menu besides tequila, he said we have wine. That wasn't the direction I was going for. I wanted a cocktail, not tequila, anything vodka based or rum. Baileys on ice. He just walked away. Didnt come back to offer us food. So I ate chips and salsa, and my friend drank a frozen margarita. Flores Lakeway 12/10/25 4 people dining Wednesday night approximately 6:30-7:30 pm. No problem with drinks and ordering. We ordered queso for an appetizer, then 4 dishes (4 people). 3 of the dishes arrived at a reasonable time, but the 4th was not delivered. After 5 minutes we inquired about the 4th dinner. Again, after 5 more minutes we asked again. Another 5 minutes we found a "manager", who went back to the kitchen to inquire about the food. A full 10 minutes after that, the 4th plate arrived. 2 of us had already finished our plates. Excuses were: waitress was training, didn't understand the order. Kitchen didn't receive the order. Only one of us received a drink refill (after asking), the other 3 of us never received a drink refill. "Manager" was slow to come to our table to address any issue. We waited another 15 minutes then asked for the check. This is the first time in about 6 months that we have returned to this location. Usually the food is about a 7 out of 10, tonight the food was about a 6 out of 10. And the last dish (carne guisada) was awful. My son took a few bites and said it was not edible. I tried it and agreed. They took it off the bill. Probably won't return for a while (if we run out of other local options). In general we dine out 2-3 times per week (lunch or dinner). read more

A must stop after a day out on the lake! The patio is covered and fantastic if you have little kiddos who need free roam. Our go tos are the beef chimichanga (half queso and half salsa verde) and the margarita of the day. Service is friendly, so it feels like a home-y spot. read more

Went here for lunch time and there was no wait. We seated immediately. You do have to wear a mask until seated. The menu can be scanned using your phone. There is a lunch menu which is great. Chips and salsa provided when you are seated. The salsa is spicy. It has a pretty heat kick to it. I asked if there is a milder version and there isn't. That's ok. Food came out pretty quickly. The sampler platter tasted ok but everything was almost cheese based except 2 items. I didn't eat the quesadillas cause it was only cheese. My taco salad was bomb though! I loved it! I upgraded for $2 extra for fajitas steak. The steak was tender and went well with my salad. I got full quick. It was a good lunch item that was appetizing but not over doing it! Yellow-cheese Tex-Mex joints serving mega-combos and margaritas are a dime a dozen in Texas, but this outpost in a Lakeway strip mall really surprised me. Bigger inside than you'd think -- with a large patio -- it was bustling on a Saturday night with couples and families alike. Everything I tried was excellent, with classic Tex-Mex styling: Crispy taco filled with toppings, cheese-stuffed enchiladas with a rich gravy, guacamole, "queso chip" (could have been more exciting), and your choice of beans. I love that the chips are tortillas cut in half, not quarters, letting you dial in your dipping size by breaking off a piece instead of jamming a big triangle in your mouth. A draft Pacifico I ordered had to have been in a 20 ounce flagon. Service was fast despite the busy restaurant, and everyone was friendly and professional. I left stuffed to the gills, and I'll go back in a heartbeat. Hunger satisfied. After some time in the sun and on the lake with friends, I was hungry for some Mexican food. Flores has a number of locations around Austin. I ordered a frozen Margarita, and we shared chicken and beef fajitas for two. The chips were fresh and the salsa was light- good, but not very flavorful. My Margarita was perfect- not so thick I couldn't drink it through a straw, and not too watery. The fajitas were average- not bad, just not excellent. I enjoy the fajitas at another Austin restaurant more. The portions were generous. The dining area felt clean. I like the painted walls with big desert, western murals that remind me of Mexican restaurants I grew up eating in. There's a good-sized bar and large patio for outside dining. In addition, there's a kid's play area to keep kiddos occupied so adults can linger longer over their drinks and enjoy conversation. On the whole, Flores is a good meal and experience - a solid "B". It's a total shame. I used to go to the old Flores location when I was a kid. The food and service used to be good. The place wasn't even busy, but it took 20 mins to get our food order. I've been going to Flores Mexican Restaurant mostly because it's the closest Tex-Mex option to my neighborhood. However, the food is mediocre. They cut corners by using ingredients like canned jalapeños in their queso and many dishes are overly greasy. The margaritas are artificially flavored, overpriced drinks. The only items worth mentioning are their salsa and tortillas, which are quite good. A few months ago, the entire takeout order was wrong and when I mentioned it, they only remade one taco because it was for a child with special dietary needs. I didn't realize the rest of the order was still wrong until I got home. When I asked for a refund for the incorrect items, the manager was rude and dismissive and told me he couldn't process the refund until the end of the shift. I never received the refund. I just let it go at the time and mentally noted not to return. Yesterday, a friend was visiting from out of town and we decided to give Flores another shot because we were on a tight schedule and the location was convenient. From the beginning, the waitress had an odd vibe and made us feel uncomfortable. My friend even considered requesting a different server, but I insisted that everyone deserves a chance and hoped for a better experience. We ordered tea, a Mexican martini, queso, and water. The server brought the drinks and asked if we wanted some queso or guacamole, even though we already requested queso. The waitress kept returning and asking if we needed more time to order food, even though we were mainly there to talk and enjoy our drinks. It felt pushy and intrusive, so my friend ordered a small meal just to get her to stop asking. She then asked if my friend wanted another Mexican martini. I asked if we could take the drink to go and she replied, "Yes, we do that." However, my friend decided that he wanted to finish it there. As he was finishing his drink, I requested to-go cups for tea and water, as well as a to-go container for his uneaten food since neither of us was really hungry. While we were packing up, the same rude manager from before came over and informed us that we couldn't take alcohol to go. We both politely said, "Okay," and continued getting ready to leave. On our way out, we asked for a bag for the to-go container. At that moment, over eight employees stood around and stared at us like we had just done something wrong. We felt extremely uncomfortable and my friend even showed the employee who gave us the to-go bag that his cup only had water in it, proving that we weren't taking alcohol to go. Despite our politeness, the entire situation felt degrading and hostile. Our bill was around $62 and we had already left a 20% cash tip before the accusations and judgmental stares began. I don't know the names of the employees, though the manager, who is heavy-set with dark hair and a scruffy face, has consistently shown unprofessionalism and a lack of customer service skills. The waitress was attentive, though she seemed incompetent and made the experience awkward. Overall, between the poor service, lack of quality, and hostile atmosphere, it's hard to recommend Flores Mexican Restaurant. The convenience isn't worth the repeated negative experiences. read more

We went to this place to try with very low expectations reading the reviews before but it has good outdoor area to play and that was the only good thing in this visit. Coming to the food, we ordered Nachos with beans and cheese and among 8 chips, 7 of them were all burned black at all edges. My concern was that they didn't cared about serving such chips. I was a bit late I'm taking picture since kids didn't cared about it. Than the taco salad didn't had any flavor. It was grilled onions and capsicum with cheese which was cold and spreader right out of refrigerator. It tasted horrible and taco crust was very oily. The enchiladas poblanas were better than other two but still too much cheese and we had way better enchiladas at many other places. We didn't ate most of this dinner. Hope they improve. read more

I just ate at Flores of Lakeway for the last time after almost 30 years of patronage. This business has slowly declined in customer service, and food quality/consistency for the past 5 years or so. It's sad because the nostalgia is real. I want to like it, but I just can't anymore. My wife and I spend 20% more and drive an extra 15 minutes for our TexMex fix at Lupe Tortilla and feel like I'm getting double the value and a much better experience. read more

It was 5:00 pm straight up when we walked in. Maybe a dozen other customers were seated. I went to the restroom. What a disaster. Dirty paper towels covered the sink area, the floor and over flowed in the trash can. What a dump. The waitress took our meal orders as soon as I returned to the table. 45:00 later our food had not arrived, our waitress was no where to be seen. We used to visit Flores regularly and found them to be a solid interior Mexican spot with great tortillas. Well, at least their tortillas are still good. We went there recently after having not visited a while. I ordered the carnitas and a house margarita. Margaritas were VERY heavy on the lime juice, so I really didn't feel all that badly when our server ignored us and didn't offer a second one. The carnitas are supposed to come with a side of onion, limes, cilantro, and jalapeño crema. They didn't give them to us, which basically meant I was just eating salty meat. Well, at least their tortillas are good. Meanwhile, I'm STARING at my server who is having a great time chatting with her friend by the kitchen, but she refuses to make eye contact so I can get the rest of my dish. She never checked up on us until it was time to pay. I only ate about 1/3 of the salty meat monstrosity and I mentioned that they left out the onions, etc, and she proceeded to argue with me that they never came with them (even though I've had them before and both the picture and description on the menu show them). Then she proceeded to tell me I was thinking of pozole. Because apparently I don't know the difference between soup and a taco. She never did offer to make things right. Our hotel concierge recommended Flores as the best Tex-Mex around and, as a person who has enjoyed many an amazing Tex-Mex meal in the Austin area I have to say I'm shocked this place made the list. The good: Pricing is wonderful. Good value for your food. We went at lunch and there are a ton of meal choices for $7.99. They also offer HH priced margaritas ($4) every day, all day. Each day has a different flavor on special. Our mango margarita was tasty, with a light mango flavor. Salsa was spicy and the queso was to die for. The not-as-good: The meal, honestly. My beans had a fishy flavor - almost like they'd been cooked with some type of amino booster. I don't know, whatever it was ended up being odd and slightly off-putting. My lunch fajita tacos were ok but the meat just didn't have much flavor. The same is true of the rice that accompanied my fishy beans. In the end, I ate a lot of queso and salsa and chips, plus had margaritas. I guess that means I'd definitely recommend Flores as a HH joint because they have that game down.
