    Dolphin Point Villas

    Dolphin Point Villas

Stayed in the Conch Villa as part of a pretty large wedding event. The first impression when…read moredriving into the place was, "What could possibly be back here that is going to work for a wedding?" However, the answer to that was surprisingly great. The villas have separate rooms with common areas and the one I was in had three bedrooms. The bedroom situation was similar to a hotel room. A nice comfortable bed, a private bathroom, generous closet space, and - most importantly - a good stable temperature even with the thermostat being out in the hall. A ceiling fan helps with circulation, which is great too. The only real downside I can think of is that two of the bedrooms are on the second floor, and you need to take this into account with your luggage as there are no elevators. Well, that and the fact that the finish of the stairs blend into the floor at the bottom so if you are older this might make for a physical perception problem as well. Anyway... Parking is a little tight when the place is full, but the location worked out really well for the wedding ceremony. Out on the point you can see the sunset across the water in the evening. Manatees frequent the dock which are a sight to behold. Across the dock there was a nice flat area on hard sand that was perfect for the reception. Yes, there are water activities including dolphin interactions across the boarder from what are the villas, but I can't make any comment on that part since I didn't manage to even visit over there.

Lots of communication on what to expect and easy check in/out process. Would definitely rent from them again. Wanted to toss this review out here because I I noticed the reviews were not great, but appeared to pretty old so maybe they have new ownership or something. Recommend using them for your rental, cheaper than VRBO/Air BNB with their hidden fees that are added to the daily room rates.

RENTERS BEWARE! BAREFEET RENTAL has no concern for or follow-up with its customers…read more  Upon check-in, we found the air conditioning was not operational, with the interior temperature at 82 degrees. Although a handyman arrived promptly to reset the thermostat, the cooling failed again shortly after.  By the time we returned from dinner at 9:00 PM, the temperature had risen back to 81 degrees. We figured out how to override the system so it would continue to cool but we cannot lower or raise the temperature; otherwise, the system resets and stops cooling.  Furthermore, we discovered the refrigerator was not functioning, causing our recently purchased food (approximately $200) to spoil. The internal temperature was up to 61 degrees at one point.  My husband was able to contact the on-call maintenance manager at 9:30 PM (Saturday). We attempted to troubleshoot the refrigerator by cycling the circuit breaker, which was unsuccessful and resulted in a warning alarm that sounded throughout the night.  This was very disruptive after a long day of travel.  Also, upon check-in we tried to open the freezer door and it was frozen shut. We kept cleaning up water on the kitchen floor near the fridge, not realizing the fridge and freezer were thawing out because they weren't working.  We have stayed at Mariner's Club for over 20 years exclusively using Barefeet Rentals, including several times in this same unit. This is by far the most disappointing stay to date! Arriving to find not one but two major issues and not having them addressed promptly is unacceptable. Normally, someone is on call to handle such emergencies. We contacted an after-hours maintenance "manager" who offered suggestions but failed to call him back as promised.  Maintenance called the unit owner, who suggested "resetting" the fridge leading us to believe this is a known issue.  No one from Barefeet bothered to call us first thing Monday morning as expected and we wound up calling again at 10:30 to get an update on our issues.   Additionally, the filthy floor suggests the unit was not cleaned properly before we arrived. Our feet are black from walking barefoot in the unit.  There is black mold on the sink plug, coffee grounds all over the inside of the coffee maker, and the master bathroom shower smells like dead fish. It's a shame that after all these years using this company the complete lack of concern is evident. I would recommend using VRBO for units in Mariner's Club and not Barefeet Rentals!

The…read morecoolest thing is that each cottage comes with its own Catalina 22', a very stable easy-to-sail boat with a swing keel (or a fin keel) and a little 4HP motor. We had so much fun exploring the sound, North Nest Key and the mangroves in the Everglades National Park and made memories to last a lifetime! The resident staff - Jenn, Chuck, and Mike - are so welcoming, and helpful, and they take great care of the property and boats - not just the Catalina sailboats, but a Sunfish, a Hobie Wave, numerous kayaks, and paddle boards - and fishing gear. Cottages are a little quirky, and if you stay in the Main house, a lot quirky, but I found that to be part of the charm. My fellow sailors just found it weird. But we were able to comfortably fit 4 adults in the cottage and watch the Olympics on a TV the size of a dining room table every evening. Such a wonderful place we are planning an annual trip

Unfortunately the wind picked up on the second day and a small craft warning stopped us from sailing after day 1. We stayed in the "Captains Cottage", which turned out to be a lot nicer than the photos -- close to the water, and quite nice inside. The place itself, as others have noted, is pretty quirky and could be seen as run down, but we liked the charm. Along with the sailboat there were lots of kayaks, two smaller sailboats and other watercraft all available at no extra charge. People gathered each evening in the waterfront hut to have a beer and chat. After a couple of days we felt like we were part of a family there, and when we moved on to a condo in Tavernier we really missed that feeling. Practically next door are two nice waterfront restaurants (Snooks and Bayside) with great waterfront views. We are recommending this place to everyone we meet!
