Stopped here on the way from Key West to Bahia Honda. The first thing we noticed is that it's spotlessly clean! The next was the super friendly service. We had a great brunch. Two of us had breakfast here at about 11am on a Saturday. We were greeted immediately and got a table right away. Decor is very plain. Food is simple and very good. I had eggs, link sausage, and hashbrowns. The sausage was unusually large and had good breakfast sausage flavor. Hashbrowns were actually nicely browned. Came with a homemade biscuit which was sliced in half and grilled. Also ordered a side of sausage gravy which was full of meat . Very good. My gf had a spinach omelet & we both had coffee. Great place for breakfast or lunch. I had the mini gut buster: potatoes with sausage gravy & biscuits with an egg on top, it was wonderful. One Friend had the Philly Cheesesteak with a side of French onion soup and said it was all excellent, another friend had the breakfast burrito and loved it, and the sausage links were amazing. Our waitress was friendly and the bus boy was a very polite young man. Prices were very reasonable. After a couple of nights in Key West, their food really hit the spot. Big portions, well prepared. Huevos Rancheros filled the platter-sized plate on which it was served. My biscuit (an addon to my 2 egg breakfast) was the size of my husband's palm. We stopped in here on our way out of town for a breakfast that was fairly tasty. I ordered the lox and very pleased with the large portion of salmon I received. The tomatoes on the side were huge and delicious. I only wish they had added a few capers. Everyone else at my table seemed pleased with what they ordered. The staff were kind and made special effort to talk with the kids at our table and tell them a few jokes. My only concerns revolved around the cleanliness of the place and that the bathrooms were a little scary. Having been a server myself, I understand that the condiments are often "merried" at the end of the shift. However, these bottled looked they had seen better days and probably needed to be thrown out. They were sticky and a little gross to use. We were so ignored and overlooked by the two ladies working there that we left without eating First she told us we could sit anywhere, but when we picked the only table clean and available for 5 she came rushing to tell us that part of the restaurant was closed even though the tables were set. The Cracked Egg was not my favorite and was just okay. This place is great if you gage your meal on quantity and not quality. Everything that we had was just okay. The pancake that my son had and my biscuits and gravy were very dense and lacked flavor. The portion sizes were much too large and a good bit of our breakfast went to waste. It was dingy, extremely crowded and had the ambience of being the only diner in the middle of a desert. We were helped by 3 different waitresses but after receiving our check no one came back. After waiting and then asking a random waitress rushing past where we should pay, we were directed to give our money to our waitress. There are some places that just feel like "home", where you not only get good food, but also the Cheer's-like feeling of "everyone knows your name" when you walk in the door. This is that kind of place. Best place for a cheap, tasty, huge breakfast in the Big Pine area. Crab cake Benedict is awesome, when available. Portions are enormous. Great coffee. When we lived on BPK, we ate here every single weekend. I was even comfortable going alone and reading the paper over my eggs. We ate here almost every morning of our 10 day stay on Big Pine. We love it there. It was some of the best breakfast we had ever had- much better than Bistro 31 that we had on Memorial Day while Keys Cafe was closed. The outside isn't very appealing and honestly the inside isn't either but the food and service is great! Its just this small little diner with lots of regulars and the food is very reasonably priced. Throughout my stay, I had the breakfast burrito, small stack breakfast of pancakes and the mini gut buster. Most days, I got the mini gut buster and one single pancake and it was always more than enough. All the food is so good. I honestly don't have one bad thing to say about this place. Yes it looks a little shady but I promise you- it's worth stopping in and having breakfast! read more

Staff was friendly, food was quick and flavorful. Daily special croissant/egg sandwich was good. I saw another diners pancakes that were fluffy and gigantic. Will have to try those another time. I am a local and live on Big Pine Key. I hop around the Keys in the close vicinity for breakfast and appreciate any breakfast spot that will remain open and the wait staff will put up with all that is thrown at them. This isn't New York or New Jersey, nor Chicago or St Louis..... it's the Florida Keys. The Cracked Egg serves great food and the staff know the locals are always supportive.... even off-season. So, if you are in a hurry to get to Key West, keep on truckin'. But if you want to experience what we have grown to love about the Keys ..... stop where the locals eat. This is not a statement against tourism, I love tourists, especially those who love and treat the Keys the way I do. This is a comment about attitudes..... and locals and tourist aike should leave their attitudes at home...... especially in our latitude!! read more

We had the breakfast special for $3.50. Two eggs and a plate-sized pancake. My husband had to eat 2/3 of mine because it was so big. The coffee was robust and stood up to the cream and sugar!
