We went for clam chowder (they didn't have lol) but I ordered the Flounder Chowder anyway to give it a try. It has fish, clams and shrimp. It was good, but I didn't enjoy the shrimp being in there. The fish was awesome and that was a nice surprise. A speck of pepper/ spice caught me by surprise in the back of my throat... which took a minute and half a glass of sweet tea to recover from. Thank goodness I had sweet tea close! The bread with honey butter that they bring to the table is amazing! We ordered a "Fred's Fried Favorites" platter to share and we couldn't finish it!! I really enjoyed the fried flounder and popcorn shrimp. My husband enjoyed the coleslaw, the founder, coconut shrimp, big shrimp and the French fries. He ate the crab cake and said it was smooth not chunky... he liked it, but wasn't his favorite. Delicious! An abundance of fresh seafood. I got the sampler platter and it was simply fabulous. The popcorn shrimp are nowhere near usual popcorn small shrimp that you would get outside of a costal restaurant. The only thing, I did not like the deviled crab in the crab shell. This taste and look like something I would get from Captain D's. But everything else taste freshly made and, authentic from the coconut shrimp to the butterfly shrimp and flounder. This round, I went straight for the Flounder Chowder, and here's the pro tip: the "award-winning" label is not menu fiction. It's absolutely worth ordering. Rich, creamy, loaded with flavor, and the kind of chowder that makes the whole table go quiet for a second because everyone suddenly has the same thought: oh, this is why people talk about it. This is comfort in a bowl with just enough Gulf Coast swagger to make you want another spoonful before you've swallowed the first. Then came the Yellowtail Sushi roll, which was already a favorite, but this time it showed up drizzled with orange juice. Yes. Orange juice. On sushi. At first glance, it sounds like the kind of culinary decision made during a kitchen dare. But somehow it works ridiculously well. My wife and I were in town for a weekend getaway and stopped by Flounders after an afternoon at the beach. We came straight in to our table, I had the Firecracker Shrimp Tacos and my wife had the Seared Ahi Tuna Tacos. Both were excellent and plenty of food. The food is fantastic. I sat at the bar and met up with a tender by the name of Gubob. He's been there for ever. You can't miss him. He recommended the Poke Wanton appetizer. And then he recommended the Snapper Blackened. OMG. Both were amazing. The flavor really worked well together. The snapper was flaky and full of flavor also and very fresh. The place is large with lots of seating inside and out. The food was fabulous with great service to match. Started out with the Floyd Flounder's Phenomenal FLOUNDER CHOWDER which it was. The place is huge with many indoor tables but even as big as it is, I would still get there early to avoid the long lines at peak times. In the back you'll find many covered picnic tables, beach volleyball, sandy playground for the littles and a Jimmy Buffett type stage for music. But enough about that. The food is what people come for. My chowder was without a doubt the best chowder ever! Floyd Flounder's Phenomenal Flounder Chowder Winner of the Great Florida Chowder cook off Featured in Southern Living and they weren't kidding. Be advised on their Shrimp boat Platter. Two maybe three can enjoy this feast of fresh caught Gulf shrimp and fish. And if that isn't enough their Key Lime pie is like nothing you've ever seen or tasted. Just delicious. For one, it's the staff, like our waitress Trish who was simply amazing, attentive and gave some wonderful suggestions. Then, there is a massive shrimping boat out front that was actually used by the Flounder family for fishing. The set of boat motors hanging throughout the joint adds both uniqueness and wonder, with the latter being primarily a thought of how they haven't yet fallen down on someone's head. Regardless, one of the coolest decorations imaginable for a seafood joint. When it comes to food, classical like baked oysters, snapper and award winning flounder chowder do not disappoint. Pair that with a McGuire's red brewed down the street or a Key Lime Colada and the meal becomes a little piece of magic. The only disappointment was the poor macaw named Tequila at the front, who really needs a much bigger cage. It's sad enough when birds of this size are kept constrained for our amusement and it's borderline torture to keep this creature in such a tiny cage. Another small improvement is moving the plastic playground somewhere else, as it really ruins the vibe of this otherwise uniquely decorated establishment and blocks the views of the gulf.
