Loved the food, the service, the ambience and everything in between UNTIL my wife and I decided to go alone one night, as our lodging was directly across the street. I won't lie, my wife looked exquisite that night! We had been down by the bar for about 10 minutes as we were waiting for our table, as is very common on almost every night! We order two mixed drinks from the bar, even though waiting in line at the bar was just as much a wait for a table at times... my wife notices a gentleman down at the end of the bar and he's eyeballing or making her feel slightly uncomfortable... and as we wait for our drinks to be made, which took an unusually long time as they were sitting at the end of the bar at the bartender tried to feel five and six hours at a time, which in itself is not in common either... so I finally get the drinks and I noticed one has a cherry and one doesn't. No big deal, I like cherries, so I took the one with the Cherry and gave my wife the one without the cherry on top. mine tastes, great, hers. She begins to complain is so very bitter and strong, and she's like "taste this and how strong it is." So, I taste hers and it has a slight bitter bite, and much stronger than mine, so I mix our drinks together to dilute hers and about that time... My wife says to me,"I'm gonna move next to you and get closer..." so, I scooted her chair over next to me, she sits in the chair, we get very close, and as I'm going in for a nice fat tongue kiss, she becomes very pliable in her sitting posture and begins to slide in her chair toward the floor as she was telling me something's not right... long story short she said we both felt the need to exit, so I put her arm around my shoulder and supported the rest of her body with my hips, and began to walk her out of the restaurant... no one would've ever known to the extent she was beginning to become paralyzed as it was all sitting in as we were walking out of the restaurant and headed back across the street to our accommodations. We barely made it to the truck... I was praying she maintained some sort of ability to be able to keep her feet to some degree. And as she began to tell me more her mouth and bottom lip begin to slur her speech, began to become very slurred and by the grace of God, and by the time we got her to our bed in the condo she couldn't move anything on her body except her lips. She was completely paralyzed.. . She was completely incapacitated and all because I drink the drink with the cherry... so I can only guess or surmise that the plan was to incapacitate me so that someone could get their hands on her while I was incapacitated, had I drank the drink that had no cherry on top! It's always a good time at Peg Leg Pete's! This is a MUST stop on Pensacola Beach. My husband and I like sitting at the upstairs bar. There's usually a wait for a seat but they become available rather quickly and if you let the bartenders know, they'll keep an eye out for you too. When I'm with my husband he's going to order the raw oysters, EVERY TIME! lol And no wonder, they've served over 104.67 tons since June of this year ALONE! This is the place you want to get fresh, plump, briny, raw oysters if that's your thing. No matter who I'm with I'm ordering the sautéed blue crab claws EVERY TIME! lol. They are cooked perfectly. They come off easily and the garlic butter that it comes with is just the best complement to them. I ordered the mixed grill this trip with blackened grouper & shrimp & had the scallops regular grilled. It comes with garlic toast, rice & snap peas, which I switched out for broccoli. Everything was good. They could've cooked the grouper & shrimp a little less but it was still good. I guess I was too hungry to take a picture of it. Next time. lol I had the strawberry Long Island iced tea which tasted like a strawberry lemonade with the soft punch of the Long Island iced tea lol. I ordered the key lime pie per usual. It's light and on the tarter side, which I prefer. Why make or order key lime pie if it's going to be sweet?! ‍ Tip: there's usually a shorter wait for seating downstairs. HOWEVER, they only do fried foods and nothing grilled, not even the sautéed blue crab claws. The bar is larger down there and they have a playground for the kids and live music. read more

If Pensacola Beach had a personality, it would be equal parts postcard, pirate, sunscreen, and "why do I suddenly need sunglasses for the sand?" The powder-white beaches are so bright that around noon I'm convinced NASA uses them to test solar panels. One minute I'm admiring the scenery, the next I'm pretty sure I've accidentally wandered onto the surface of the sun. Steam. [Cartoon smoke puff.] Then there's the water. That ridiculous blue-green Gulf water looks Photoshopped in real life. During the off-season, it's peaceful enough to convince you that all your responsibilities were merely a misunderstanding. Add the occasional roar of the Blue Angels overhead, and suddenly lunch comes with its own air show. Which brings me to Peg Leg Pete's. The place looks exactly like you'd expect if a beach house, a fishing camp, and a pirate all agreed to decorate together after more-than-enough frozen drinks. I mean that as a compliment. It's gloriously beach-wrecked in all the right ways. Everywhere you look there are license plates from places that make you wonder, "Did someone actually drive here from Saskatchewan... or was this place discovered by wandering Vikings?" Somebody get Ponce de Leon on the phone! Smell the fresh seafood. Warm sand. Gulf air. And a scientifically impossible concentration of sunscreen and tanning lotion occupying the same zip code. It's Eau de Beach Vacation. Cue laugh track. Now, the food. Ordered: Blackened grouper. Char-grilled grouper. Grouper stuffed with crab. Crab claws. Cajun catfish. Oysters. Calamari. Shrimp prepared Cajun, grilled, steamed, and chilled. The grouper was pretty consistent in every form it appeared. The crab claws disappeared suspiciously fast. The oysters tasted like they had an express lane from the Gulf to the table. The calamari never stood a chance. The shrimp showed up in enough varieties to qualify as their own family reunion. Winner? The catfish. It's flavorful, cooked just right, and somehow manages to be the dish I keep thinking about long after everything else has faded into a happy seafood blur. Most meals come with your own personal little sleeve of Saltine crackers. I don't know why this makes me so happy. It's just...there. It's like the restaurant quietly says, "Here. In case your soup needs backup." I respect that level of preparedness. Now, fair warning. Peg Leg Pete's is usually crowded. Very crowded. The kind of crowded where everyone collectively decided, "Yes, seafood. Right now." But honestly, that's part of the experience. Good places tend to attract people, and this one definitely does. As for the bill... Let's just say feeding a table that aggressively samples the menu isn't exactly a coupon adventure. We crossed the $200 mark and decided that discussing the math would only distract from the happiness. Some financial mysteries are best left unsolved. Bottom line? I like Peg Leg Pete's. Would I recommend it? Sure. Especially for lunch after a morning on the beach when you've accumulated exactly six pounds of sand in places you didn't know sand could reach. Go for the catfish. Enjoy the atmosphere. Wave at the Blue Angels if they happen to fly over. Accept your ceremonial sleeve of Saltines with the dignity it deserves. And if the beach reflects enough sunlight to temporarily convince you you've entered another dimension...don't worry. That's just Pensacola Beach reminding everyone who's really in charge. BOING! We chilled at the bar, grabbed a couple appetizers and drinks while we waited for a table. We had the crab claws and grouper nuggets, both were super tasty but the grouper nuggets were amazing. After a an hour or so, our table was ready and we were seated on the covered patio. I had the fried shrimp po-boy and we split a whole lobster amongst the table. Let me just say this place is always a gem! Haven't been back in seven years and Man did it not disappoint. The food is still great. Drinks are amazing and you can never go wrong with their oysters. I got two dozen. My favorite drink is the shipwreck and you can get a cup to take home. Our waitress was this Thai lady. She was extremely nice very attentive and friendly. You can choose to either sit inside or outside. I always choose outside but inside does have AC. I didn't catch the name but it was fabulous I had the special which was a red snapper- PHENOMENAL. My husband and FIL had the grouper and my MIL had the blackened chicken salad- they all loved the food. Baby wasn't feeling too great so she didn't really eat but I ordered her pb&j with corn so it's cool they have many options for kiddos. We spotted this place from the balcony of our Airbnb and were enthralled by the number of cars there every day and night. Would definitely recommend the waitlist, if available. There was about a 40 minute wait so we tried the down stairs area which had immediate seating. This area offered a limited menu; however they had an entire and okay area for children, live music and bay side views. We opted for the oyster sampler and the crab / crab plate. The seafood platter and the gumbo were the best we ever had at a restaurant. The seafood was so fresh and the fish was so big and flaky. The shrimp and scallops, although not the largest, were so fresh and perfectly fried. The parmesan oysters and oyster rockefeller were good but had too much topping. We are used to the grilled parmesan like in Louisiana but these are baked. Personally the oysters were good and didn't need too much done to them. We were seated at a weird little corner table, and I asked if we could move to an empty table in a nicer area. We were told they needed it for a large group. Solid dinner spot! We came on Sunday at 8pm & it was still a 1.5 to 2 hour wait. The actual wait was about 1.5 hours before we were seated. Our waitress was great, no issues or complaints with service. For food we ordered the fried calamari, spinach dip, scallops, & fried catfish. Food was decent. Calamari was slightly chewy but nothing too unreasonable. I enjoyed the spinach dip & my fried catfish was perfect - very lightly fried & flaky. The fries were stale though & my wife's scallops were a little overcooked, but she said the seasoning & flavor was on point & they give you big portion sizes! I also ordered a bushwhacker with a peanut butter whiskey topper & that was dangerously good! Overall, 4/5! Touristy spot for sure but great beachy ambiance & decent food with good price point. Not worth that wait, though. I heard the oysters here are some of the best, but we were too hesitant to order them since it's not prime oyster season yet. Maybe another time. read more

Get on the waitlist before heading there to save you some time! It was packed even at 5pm. I thought it would be a tourist trap but the food was EXCELLENT. I wanted some fresh fish and gumbo and it beat my expectations. The grouper was cooked to perfection and the sauce that goes with it was delish. My daughter got an enormous burger and she ate the whole thing! The spinach artichoke dip was good, but was really salty combined with the salted chips.
