Pre ordering wasn't what I expected. Reserved a slot for 10 and the line was wrapped around the building. Not a pick up and go. Had to go back an hour and a half later to get my order. Coffee cake, not what I'm used to, it shouldn't be called a coffee cake when it is more like a croissant. Edges were burnt. Chocolate chip cookie was excellent. Bacon egg and cheese pizza is great. As a self-professed croissant connoisseur, I was so excited to discover the place. The croissants and other pastries were top-notched and in my opinion on par with many top bakeries in San Francisco, New York and overseas. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the price - it's at least 30% higher than the bakeries with the same caliber. Come for the pasties, not the pizza. We went there Friday night for the pizza more than the cookies. Scheduled for 6pm pickup, got there 15 minutes early and we're told our order wasn't ready yet; not a problem. At 5:58pm, I saw the girl behind the counter take our pie from the bottom of a stack and bring it over to us. It had been ready before we arrived! Needless to say by the time we got home to eat it it was cold. I suppose it's not a problem if you're one of those psychos who likes cold pizza (you know who you are), but I'm not. When I was growing up in New Haven, every Sunday after Mass, we used to go to a little bakery near Wooster Square. We'd pick up a loaf of bread fresh out of the oven. I didn't know how lucky I was. I just took it for granted. Flour Water Salt Bread took me back to those days. A finely crafted gourmet bread is not so far from the finely crafted peasant bread of my youth. Their coffee cake is unbelievable. It's as though a cinnamon bun and a standard coffee cake had a baby, resulting in a delicious amalgam of streusel, brioche, and cinnamon swirl. Also really enjoyed their croissant, as it was unique in its sour dough-esque finish. Highly recommend! read more

If only the prices were more reasonable and the employees friendlier. I went in the other day and it appeared to be oone male in his 30's busy baking. Well he stopped what he was doing to assist me at the counter, but was not very welcoming. I bought 2 plain croissants and 2 apple turnovers $19+..... $4.00 per croissant and $5.00 per apple turnover? Any way, the croissants were excellent, light, crunchy & buttery. Used their pre-order website to select what I wanted, and a specific time. Arrived during my time slot to have them tell me they were out of half of the items I pre-ordered and paid for. This is the best bakery I've ever been to!! You should've seen the lines this place drew in during the pandemic - around the block and into the Darien Sport Shop parking lot! For the record, the "lines" are much more manageable now (barely any lines), but trust me that's not because their product has changed. It's always been great and always will be. The dark sourdough, brown butter chocolate chip cookies, and croissinamon rolls are to die for. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but if they have the almond croissant when you go, make sure and get that! Their pizzas are the best in town and their sourdough is seriously addictive. Please expand to NYC!! Have not found anything that compares and while I still spend enough time in CT to visit the Darien shop, I think NYC would love a bakery like this. The product is superb, none better anywhere. The management of the operation is so contemptuous of the customer as to reimagine the concept of "going postal". I know a couple of 8 year olds who could do a better job of managing this business. There is no phone contact available to the customer. There is no email contact available to the customer. There is no way to communicate with the store except to make a comment in the comment section when you place an order, but no one reads that so it is useless. I have never had an interaction with a business which thinks so little of its customers. Such a shame, it's not that hard. read more
