Cute little bakery that offers fresh baked goods and salads and sandwiches. They specialize in bagels and the aroma is amazing. The staff is less than excited or helpful and seem to do the bare minimal. The bagel sandwich we had was fresh and packed with lots of yummy turkey breast. We also had a chopped salad which was less than great. The grilled chicken was so sparse you had to triple check for it, the tomatoes were pink and the rest of the ingredients were subpar. Love there food but hate their in person customer service. I stood on line waited my turn and instead of taking my order he looks over me to the customer behind me and proceeds to take their order. I spoke up and told him I was in line first. He rushed me through my order. As I waited for my order the other server serves me an incorrect order. With visible frustration he corrected it. The UberEats app said I had 10 minutes to respond but the restaurant cancelled the order before I could make changes. Got my order wrong (had a similar name to what they gave me). They forgot to add the onion to my sandwich, didn't have the bread I had asked for, and added bacon that wasn't on the menu. I can't eat bacon, so I had to give my $10 sandwich away. There was also ketchup and mayo on the sandwich when it was supposed to be Russian dressing. Meat is poor quality for the price. We love to get bagels from here every Sunday morning, however there is always something wrong with the order. After this happened once, my husband starting presenting a written copy of our order, which also didn't help. We communicated this issue and were told to place our order online to avoid any mistakes. I got the "OG" through Uber Eats with Nova Scotia Lox, cream cheese & red onion! The lox was fresh & delicious. I subbed the cream cheese with light veggie cream cheese! That was super flavorful as well! I put it on a blueberry bagel & it was crunchy & a strong fresh blueberry flavor! My boyfriend got a double egg & cheese on a blueberry bagel! The bagel was good but it was a giant puffy egg.... It was all yellow, probably scrambled beforehand & then thrown into the microwave. I saw the reviews of people saying the eggs were microwaved but we had no clue that it would come out a giant fluff patty of straight yolk....... I didn't eat lunch at my jobsite's cafeteria, so I figured I'd just get something on the way back to the city. I wanted an easy sandwich so when I saw "...Bagel Company & Deli", I figured that this would work. Well it did. At first I asked for a scoop of the pesto chicken. That had a very decent flavor, but unfortunately there was that little bit of cartilage that you sometimes get with a chicken sandwich. That was a definite turnoff and if I had had a whole sandwich this review would have been horrible. The cartilage issue then brought me to my second choice...the Hell Fire Chicken. This was not bad. It definitely wasn't "Hell Fire", but it did have a zip to it. It's like eating a basic medium level hot wing on a long roll. I've lived in Manhattan and had a lot of bagels and somehow UCBC stands up to them all. My parents literally only visit me because of the bagels (I think). Not too fancy - just great bagels. Disappointed after my first visit. Came in on a Saturday for lunch expecting to get a yummy salad. Turns out they do not serve salads on the weekends. I ordered a turkey avocado sandwich on a wrap and it was not very good. Way too much mayonnaise and the wrap did not taste very good in itself. Extremely disappointed in this place. I work nearby and there aren't many options for inexpensive food that is also relatively healthy. I saw on their website that they offer customizable salads that were priced much lower than the overrated salads at the nearby Panera, so I thought it would be a good lunch option. However, I have yet to purchase a salad from this place as I was told on a Saturday that salads are only offered during the week. I came back again on a Tuesday at 2:30 looking to buy lunch for me and my coworker and was told that salads are only available until 2pm. Are you kidding me?! Something as simple as a salad bar should NOT have this many restrictions. And may I say that NOWHERE on their website OR in the cafe itself is there ANY mention of these rules. The only reason why I'm giving this place 2 stars instead of 1 is because the bagel I purchased was actually very good. I'll never, ever understand(or accept), why every bagel place in lower Fairfield Country microwaves raw eggs in tupperware as the preparation. For one, it's just disgusting. That is not cooking. Two, it's horribly unhealthy as the heated plastic leeches into the eggs and releases carcinogens - hence, cancer. Is it seriously that difficult to get a griddle and fry up some eggs quickly especially in an establishment that has a kitchen! It's actually quicker on a griddle and 100 times more tasty. This place, Liz Sue's in Stamford, Village bagel in Stamford, list goes on, all the same. Microwaved eggs. Disgusting. Someone would do well to open a proper bagel shop where they prepare food properly. If you're in Darien and want an egg sandwich, then just go to Uncle's Deli. We stop in every weekend so know the place well. Pros: Excellent fresh bagels consistently. Location is very convenient and great parking in rear. Ice coffee stands out and especially in the warmer months. Cons: At times the counter help can be a bit disorganized. If you come in later on a weekend morning they run out of certain bagels and you are forced to order your second or even third choice (if a particular bagel is popular why not make a larger quantity of them?) Lastly, there's a play area for small children- while this sounds like a nice touch- children can be become VERY loud while playing, disturbing what would have been a nice, quiet, relaxing breakfast (especially painful if you are nursing a hangover). There are plastic building blocks that the children use- they will build very tall towers and then it comes crashing down. We would recommend different toys if the "play pen" is a must. To be fair- one again- we are STEADY regulars at this establishment and really do enjoy their bagels and service. However the cons we listed happen on a regular basis. read more
