I almost can't believe that I went into the same shop as so many of the people who have reviewed Flower Power. While the selection of herbs was decent (it's a pretty niche market) the staff was so incredibly unfriendly that I regretted the purchase that I did end up making. With a new interest in herbal remedies, I was really hoping for a welcoming staff that would be willing to talk with me about the various products. After all, it can be pretty overwhelming to look at a big wall of jars! Alas, I found no friendly face or informative employee. I did find an employee who snatched the informational booklet out of my hand while reading it for another customer, and then a woman who's negative attitude really put a damper on the experience. I felt as though I was *bothering* them by speaking, or even existing in their presence. I will not return, and certainly won't be recommending Flower Power as the herbal alternative. read more

Flower Power has a very comfortable hippie feel to it without the overbearing new age feel that can make this type of shop uncomfortable places to shop. I enjoy stopping in Flower Power whenever I need something, however most of the time their herbs let loose a bunch of moths (thankfully in the jars, and not out in my apartment.) The quality is great, but if I don't remember to freeze said herbs once I get home, it means that I basically have to throw out very expensive herbs. I have found the staff to be very helpful, and nice, so hopefully my experience is limited to just me! I love the vibe in there! If you cannot dry your own herbs, then go to Flower Power. read more

Really Great Energy! Warm greeting made me feel welcome! This store is SO cool, Great Wall of herb jars w a sliding ladder! but not at all intimidating. The staff is SO friendly & great vibes and was equally able to let me browse as well as answer all of my questions. (I had alot! They gave me so much info!) I left with two bags of herbs that I could not find elsewhere which will supplement my nightly teas & two vials of essential oils. More importantly, I left a fan of the store, the staff, & the wide array of offerings there! (I'm coming back for a class at the end of the month!) I'm really looking forward to learning more here! Oh my God...this little shop is A-MAZING! Went with my girlfriend with a list of items that we wanted to get information on. Unfortunately, because the place is small they can only allow one to two people in at a time due to COVID. No problem, we get it and appreciate it. My group of three waited outside patiently. While the one customer that was inside was being serviced another employee was happy to come outside and talk to us about the items on our lists and give us great information about what we were and weren't looking for. We each left with quite a few herbs and tinctures and even some homemade hand sanitizer that had the best smell of clove. There's probably a million things in there that we didn't talk about and I can't wait to go back and chat with one of the ladies. There were some people in the line behind us outside. It went from us three to six very quickly. Some of those people were getting very impatient and not so nice. While we waited we noticed somebody was able to drive up and pick up and order they had called in. So if you don't have the time or the patience to stand outside and wait for everybody to get individual attention, that might be the best choice for you. Just a heads up. read more

This place is so classic St. Marks/East Village. I came in here with my hippy rocker friend (she needed some liquid drops to help her focus... lol, yea..) I saw all of these huge jars of different roots and herbs for teas and whatever else people do with them. My friend told me that I should try some herbs for my tea, because their herbs are the best you can get. I decided to get about $9 worth of chamomile. I took it home, put it in a tea can and a few days later I decided to try some. I steeped the tea in my tea pot. When I poured it into my cup it was filled with pollen! Yuck! I ran the tea through another strainer and there was much less pollen. I tried it and it was very good! Very deep in color and flavor. If I was ever to stumble in to Flower Power again, I would definitely try another type of tea. I love how they tell you what certain herbs can do for your body (this herb is good for your digestion, this herb is good for your immune system, etc.) I'd buy more herbs from Flower Power... I just wouldn't go out of my way to come back. read more

Went here on Friday to get ingredients for a DIY leave-in conditioner I'm making because my hair is hella matted. I was actually going to go to Radicle in Downtown Brooklyn, since it's closer to home. But there was no answer when I called and their customer service reviews weren't good. I called FP ahead of time to make sure they had what I needed, and the person on the phone was really sweet. When I got there an hour later, they were lovely and super helpful. Great array of herbs. You pull the jars from off the shelf and they weigh the amount you'd like to purchase. The salesperson I spoke with gave me a great tip re Milk Thistle. They even have CBD chocolates! I bought the pina colada one, and it was delightful. Not sure if they offer classes or workshops (I think they do). I can't wait to return! read more

Per Yelp's recommendation I walked to Flower Power crosstown and it was worth it. I sought advice from the owner, looking for something to boost my immune system and I got it, very quickly. But the most important was that it worked! I'm not a crazy hippie, I take antibiotics if I need them, but there is also power in natural remedies and you will surely find the powerful stuff at Flower Power. read more

Awesome, but an easy spot to miss unless you are paying attention. Trance-inducing wall of identical half-gallon mason jars filled with a dizzying array of mostly wild-crafted/organic herbs and spices. Had pretty much everything I was looking for (no cinchona bark but hey that's what online shopping is for). Extracts and salves and balms and tinctures, etc etc. The tiered-pricing (buy more pay less) can be a little annoying and I see little reason for it since they have scales and calculators. A simple price per pound like the co-op on 4th street would be much more customer-friendly. Definitely has that distinct new-agey vibe, but then again you are in a bulk herb store so what would you expect. And the people are really nice. read more

So basically, this store has probably the largest selection of herbs of any kind, not only that, but you can come to them with specific requirements related to health issues and they will be able to recommend a combination of herbs that will benefit you. Great place! If you love herbs then this is the place to go. They have everything you could think of. They were reasonably priced. They are open 7 days a week 12pm-7pm. They had all types of oils and salves. When I went there, it was very quiet and peaceful. The lady helping me there was very helpful, nice, and knowledeable. You can call ahead of time and they will price anything for you. She remembered me from when I called hours before and I don't know if this was just a coincidence, but she threw in a free salve and it was exactly for what I needed. This salve has been working wonders too! So they are very attentive and seem like they truly have a passion for working with these magical, wonderful, natural herbs. I'm glad I found this place. Think of a happy place = Flower Power Very important to the East Village and NYC. I just took the lip balm, salves, infusions class and it was awesome. It was $30 and I went home with so much knowledge and 4 chapsticks, 1 jar of salve, 1 tin of balm. They have a great selection and the vibe is right, its actually perfect. Has a lot of character. I love this place! If you're into natural medicines, this is a place you must stop to check out. Walls of jarred herbs you can pick up and buy by the ounce, as well as ready to go tinctures and ointments. Also check out the henna for hair, seaweed baths, and specialized bath salts for soaking. Kind of stumped on which herb to use for what? I have found the ladies here to be very knowledgeable (just remember, no one prescribes, only describes!). I haven't been to one of the classes yet, but for those who have little experience or need a refresher in making their own remedies, be sure to ask to get on their emailing list to stay informed. If it's medicinal herbal / botanical "teas" and/or tinctures that you're in search of...Flower Power is the place to be!! I went with a list of "Top 10 Healing Teas" and they had jars (some were sold out) on their bookcase like shelving for EVERY ONE of the herbals on my list! :-)) The young Asian lady who assisted me was patient though it was busy and near closing. She even took the time to give me referrals to herbalists and naturopaths! For that I was extremely grateful. They also have a very nice selection of books on herbal and naturopath healing remedies. My only wish is that they had a nice selection of tea cups and tea sets. read more

I have been in New York 30 years this August and I don't know how it is that I didn't know about this wonderful store. It's so hard to find medicinal herbs, spices oils and more in New York City with this kind of quality. Prices are great and I loved hanging out and talking with the owner, Lata, and her colleague. Today I picked up a small amount of Calendula and Chamomile to make my own baby powder and I will definitely be visiting this place more often. I came by the store with a group of people of all differing backgrounds. Everyone was fascinated though a few of my companions were skeptical at first. We talked with Lata about different remedies and nutritional questions. She was extremely helpful and honest. I was struck by how she would often describes remedies for things that had nothing to do with the things she sold in the store. Her desire to help and heal were palpable. We ended buying several different tinctures, powders, herbs and sprays. It was really a wonderful experience and helped us understand the world of natural remedies better. Then I remembered a friend telling me how she didn't have a pleasant experience here a couple years ago, then talked about how she should have known because the phone# has 666 in it....lol. anywho, i won't be going back. I have never met a more rude staff in my entire life. I hope this place gets shut down for their reprehensible attitude towards customers. I was kicked out the door with nothing more than a woman yelling at me with no regard for customer satisfaction. The woman's sign said open and it said "everyone is welcome" but in reality it was the most UNWELCOMING place I have ever come across. You should be ashamed of yourselves. DO NOT COME HERE!!! I'm writing this review about the horrible and upsetting customer service I experienced here. I'm sure the herbs are of good quality - but the employees were some of the rudest I've ever encountered. I stopped in to put together a custom tea for a friend who was recently diagnosed with cancer. When I asked for help, the employees were clearly annoyed to have to stop chatting amongst themselves and basically had nothing to offer me in terms of advice on proportions/ratio of different herbs. One employee even raised her voice with me saying that she "didn't know what I was asking or what I was trying to do," as if it was such a burden that a customer would come in who has no prior knowledge about tea or herbs expecting expertise from people who work in that space... It was completely unprofessional and left me feeling really upset, when I had come in expecting a warm, positive experience. On top of that, they initially advised me incorrectly on the ratio of different herbs I bought and then basically told me there was nothing they could do about it since they'd already measured everything out. There are plenty of other tea and herb shops nearby that I would advise going to. If you are dealing with a health/ wellness issue this is the LAST place you should come. Not only is the staff arrogant and bullying, they are loud, obnoxious, and downright disruptive to customers while talking with each other - AND to top it off - they have ZERO helpful knowledge on their products. read more

I came here for the first time after hearing a lot about it. I'm an empath/psychic/medium so I pick up on everything good and bad. I didn't expect to feel SO incredibly awful coming into a shop that is supposed to help guide and heal people but I left feeling worse than I have ever felt in my life. If you are an empath/medium/ect DO NOT come in here. It leaks Bad vibrations,toxic and Evil energy. A friend of mine who is an empath/psychic medium called me after I left and said are you ok? I said no I picked up some really bad energy and he immediately said it came from the heavy set woman with glasses. He had visited before in the past and he said Everytime this woman was there he felt like he was dying after she looks at him. I said yes! she is actually an evil toxic nasty person who directs it towards people on purpose (something like black magic) unfortunately it's not just her,the place is contaminated with lost spirits who don't have good intentions.I never write review's, this is actually my first one but I think people deserve to know. Please take care of yourself and do not enter this place. It took me a very long time to rid and cleanse what I picked up. You don't have to be psychic or have special abilities. we are all human and that means we are energy. You might not have the ability to pick up on something but you will be affected by it since everything is energy exchange. Places like this that house bad energy are terrible for business.
