I had a hair cut from Tre S. While I was trying to pull out a photo of hair style which I wanted, he sneered at me and said I'm waiting. Most of the time, he uses a clippers and only one hand(not using other hand to hold an ear or head). Too rough, kept shaking my head, and when it come to shaving my skin, he cut my ear and just said sorry. I knew it was deep, but he seemed like it was nothing. Of course, it was bleeding. He just kept using a towel to clean it up, never informing me how deep it was to me....no sincere apologies. He said he will give me a discount as $5 off....it is not about a money. No hospitality, no sincerity, and having an attitude. If he was in my position, I am pretty sure he will go mad. No hot towel or shaving cream applied before beard was edged with straight razor. Did use cream when cleaning up the neck though. The shampoo service wasn't even mentioned. This place used to be great, but their prices have gone up, while their level of service has decreased exponentially. They used to have the same group of stylists day in and day out, but I have noticed it's a revolving door. The ones that stay look miserable. I've been going to close to 10 years and in the past few years, they've gone from $26/cut to almost $40, which wouldn't be so bad if the level of service hasn't decreased. read more

Came in for an appointment with Amaranta G for a medium length hair cut. I had straight long hair past my shoulders and asked to shorten it a couple inches and add some texture so that it would be shaggy and messy looking. I showed her some pics for inspiration. The whole time she spun my chair around to keep me from facing the mirror so I couldn't see what she was doing. She was super rough doing what I assume was a razor cut but with very dull scissors that pulled my hair so hard my eyes watered. When she was done she finally spun me round to face the mirror and I was horrified. She had cut my hair basically to chin length and I looked like Lord Farquad from Shrek. I asked why it was so flat and that I asked for texture and she said that if she took anymore hair it would be too thin in the back... that didn't answer my question. When I made another comment how it's not what I wanted she blamed it on me having greasy hair. Mind you I've had shag mullets and razor cuts before that turned out amazing despite "greasy hair." *SCAM ALERT* $70 haircut and beard trim (twice) AFTER APOLOGY!! (SKIP TO THE END FOR PHOTO) Long story short I charged $70 for a haircut and beard trim. I complained and was apologized to for being over charged. I allowed them to "make it up to me." with a "free" beard trim on my next visit........but then I was over charged the exact same way a month later on my very next visit. This place price gouges and can't keep staff. They WILL try to take advantage of you if you get in that chair. At least that's been my experience. A screen shot of the transcription of the apology voicemail they left is attached below. DONT WASTE TIME OR MONEY. What happened: In April I was in the area and went to Floyds. I was charged $70 for a haircut and "detailed beard trim." I am used to paying $50 and tipping $20 or paying $60 and tipping $10. But I had never been charged $70 at Floyds before in my 10 or so years of visiting (spending maybe $840 per year) so 8k+ total. Their website actually lays out pricing. After the April visit I left a review about being charged incorrectly. After my review, the manager reached out to me. We discussed what a detailed beard trim is. She said I was incorrectly charged for a detailed beard trim, because no straight razor was used. She said the straight razor is what makes it a detailed beard trim. She asked me to come back and give them another chance with a free beard trim. After a month or so I accepted the apology offer and went back. Things went fine. HOWEVER, today was my second time back since the price gouging. I got scammed again. The exact same way. Look, a place can set their price that's their right. If they said "Our price is $70" I would just go elsewhere... unless it was a treat service somewhere justifiably upscale like Manifest in DC. But Floyds is no "treat." It's a half step up from Super Cuts in quality and 2 steps down in business practices. THIS IS THE PART WITH THE AUDACITY LOL: In addition to over charging me after an apology for overcharging me, the girl at the register gave the following definition of a "beard trim" According to the woman at the register: If they clean up the edges or "line up" your beard, that is a "beard trim" and if they cut ANY length off... that is considered a "detailed beard trim." I said that makes no sense, the definition of trim is to take length off.... Right???? Regardless... she charged me $70 for a "detailed beard trim," for having maybe a half inch cut off my beard which really without a straight razor wasn't even an average beard trim, let alone a detailed one. Look I feel like I'm wasting time on top of already wasted time. It sucks that things are so bad for people financially that they try to rob loyal customers. It's crazy that I even entertained Floyds after having been ripped off the first time. I chalked it up to a scammy barber. But it turns out scammy is the culture of this location. It is unfortunate that Floyds runs their business in such a way that barbers are not adequately compensated by the traditional menu offerings. But it is inexcusable that they try to make up for that by preying upon their guests. Look I get that inflation has caused price changes to places with supply issues, however the price of moving your arm up and down with a trimmer has not changed. Nothing they do is worth $70 I promise. Quality is inconsistent (I have had like 10 different people cut my hair there even the girl from just 4/5 weeks ago is no longer there. This is constant. I have been told by former employees they mistreat and under pay their staff. If I didn't have a place next door I wouldn't patronize at all. I even visit a former employee's shop when possible. You can get the same elsewhere for $40. I am usually ok with paying $50 or $60 for convenience and tip well out of kindness but I do get annoyed by the games and dishonesty. Especially them flat out robbing me in my face. If I didn't have more to lose I would have made a scene. But instead here is this honest criticism with photo shame. Setting a price is fine. Your price is your price. You want to up your price? Fair. But when you are deceptive that's not ok. As a girl I never would have thought to go to a barbershop, because only guys go to the barber right? WRONG! My experience at Floyd's was the best I've ever had at any salon. I was recommended by my friend who gets his hair cut by Stephen, and he told me that he does women's hair as well. My friend raved about him so much that I wanted to test the waters for myself. I had not gotten my hair trimmed in months prior to quarantine, so it must have been at least 6 months since my last cut. My ends were dead and my hair had no shape at all -- it was quite boring honestly and I needed to do something. I called ahead to make an appointment and the person on the phone was very nice and professional. When I arrived on the day to my appointment I was welcomed immediately and there was no wait (possibly because of COVID-19). Stephan is an amazing hair dresser and such a cute and friendly human. He's so easy to talk to and executes your wants and concerns perfectly. I went in for a trim and came out with just that and more! My hair is no so healthy and has so much more depth, volume, and bounce to it. I couldn't be happier with the results and highly recommend Floyd's and Stephan specifically. The first time I went to Floyd's in Rockville my son's hairline was destroyed because the barber had some challenges doing a clean line up. The first review prompted the customer service center to reach out to us a specifically recommend a different barber at the Gaithersburg location. The haircut was so horrible that my son left in tears. Middle school is rough enough without having to go in there with a haircut that looks like Gerald from the cartoon 'Hey Arnold.' The barber did not know how to taper the sides. He took more hair off the top than the sides..he could have at least made the hair length uniform all around if he didn't know what he was doing. When I asked him to at least take some off the sides so it would look even, he failed to even it up.. it was horrible, they don't have to worry about us ever stepping foot in that establishment again. read more

I've been going here for awhile now, and I always walk out feeling great and satisfied with the cut I get, never the less! Before you get your haircut, always make an appointment, as you could end up waiting for a random barber when you get there. I always ask for Dru because you'll always get a detailed and fresh cut when everything is done. It is also easy to strike a conversation with people here, so you'll have opportunities to talk with the barbers and staff if you want to. For the most part, most people's cut will range from $24-$30 bucks, but for the quality of the cut you get, it is definitely worth it! They also do have their own line of hair products if you really wanted to use the products they use when they do your haircut as well. Took my 14 month old son here after making a reservation today. Was told he would see a barber....got there and he refused because he is too young and would have to sit on my lap. (At this point my gut reaction was to leave because the barber didn't think he would do a good job given having a client that was much lower and moving more....good on you barber! Once you're taken each stylist takes their time to make sure your cut is thorough and it's what you want. No chop jobs here! I would rate Vanessa a zero if I could. I am new to Gaithersburg and was looking for a new stylist. In NJ I worked with a stylist who took excellent care of my hair. My hair was 2-3 inches past my shoulders. I am African American and it took me years of hair care to grow healthy hair that I love. I was referred to Vanessa by a friend of a friend. My biggest mistake is not taking note of the fact Vanessa only had male customers and appeared to be a barber although she claimed to be a stylist. I asked for a wash and color, I still have the text message to prove it. Vanessa pulled out her scissors and chopped up my hair into several layers cutting more than 50% of my hair off in some places without saying a single word to me about what she was doing. I thought she was trimming the edges, another mistake on my part because I did not ask her for a trim. Why was she even cutting my hair! This has been the absolute worse hair experience I have had in decades. I would NOT recommend her to anyone. This happened in early October and I have woken up unhappy about my hair every day since. Someone who does these kinds of vicious things to women should not be allowed to practice in the field. Frankly I don't believe that Vanessa is a licensed hair stylist. This was the first time that I had ever gotten my hair colored professionally. Overall, the atmosphere in Floyd's is fun and the music had a ton of variety, which was great especially since I was there for several hours. Although my actual hair process was long primarily because of the bleaching stage (I had relatively long hair and am a natural dark brunette), Serena was able to transform my hair to the Silver tone I was looking for! Hands down that she is very talented not only in doing intense color treatments, but the haircut she gave me afterwards was perfect! I do not know all hairdresser terminology so Serena let me know what was going on the whole time and it was really assuring to me and shows that she knows her stuff! Felt like my haircut was rushed. The guy in the seat next to me was still getting a haircut before I arrived and after I left.

Really don't like this place. We have been in four or five times and only once walked away with a hair cut. And it was mediocre. Every time we come in we get an exhausted facial expression or a comment along the lines of being bored and annoyed. Yesterday was my last try. I went in with my preschooler son and tried to make it cheerful so he wouldn't be nervous. I'm being friendly and saying "Hiiii! How are you! This place looks fun!!" One of the three girls at the desk doesn't even look at my son, she just responds with a tired, "Eh, not great. I've been better." And then she literally went back to talking to the other girls behind the desk. Wtf? But it's always this way when we walk in. The other two were more responsive and said goodbye to us at least. Truly, at this barber, if we aren't being ignored then we're feeling like an inconvenience. My previous trip there with my husband was just as disappointing. We walked in and said "We have to pick up our son in 45 minutes. Do you have anyone available to cut hair?" The girl responded with "I'm not sure." We asked, "Do you know how long it will be?" Again she simply says "I'm not sure..." I probed a third time, "Can you give us a ballpark??? 5 minutes, 25 minutes? Do you have any idea if someone can trim my husband's hair?" And she still insisted that she didn't know if someone was available or when. Wow. Literally your #1 job is to manage the schedule book and talk to customers. How can you not do either? Maybe their desk staff just feels like it's better to be "real" and tell the customers when they wish they weren't at work but when I managed retail, this was a major NO-NO. If the manager reads this, I'd be having a serious conversation with my negative staff. It's not one of them, it's multiple. You guys have lost us for good. read more

Jessie is a BIG NO for women haircut. Went in for my dad haircut and decide to get a haircut also. My dad haircut turn out ok since it's a guy haircut. But my hair was HORRIBLE. When I told her my hair is uneven she starts to freak out and walk back and forth to the product area and keep adding product on my hair. When I ask her and so does the receptionist (the second one) that my hair is uneven and the blow dry is such because my hair is still wet and she just keep ignoring me and look like she's just waiting for the time to be over and go home. Terrible cut! I would give it a zero star if it was an option. I tried this place because it was close to where i live and you would think $30 for a fade they must employ top notch barbers. Nah that was a false assumption the Fade was not faded I could legit see the lines when I got to a good mirror. He completely missed one side burn. Also the pricing was confusing. The barber had no personality! Just was like "what do you want" no conversation at all them handed me a tiny mirror when he was don't like here ya go that's $31!
