A cute neighborhood bakery (literally inside a residential community!) filled with whimsy and fun, Fluff Bake Bar is unapologetically cute and pink. The treats here are more of the classic American desserts (known for the cookies but also have brownies, bars, loaves, cakes, ice cream, and even pup pops). They're open until 7pm which is pretty late for a bakery, perfect for swinging by after dinner! - Booty call brownie (4.5/5): soft fudgy brownie with cookie dough on top. The cookie dough was really soft and almost like a frosting. Definitely chocolatey and quite sweet-- perfect for the sweet tooth! I prefer my brownies with a little more chew but this was fun and tasty :) - Coffee toffee cookie (3.5/5) and Dulce oatmeal cookie (5/5): both cookies were soft and slightly chewy. The coffee toffee cookie definitely had that coffee flavor, but it wasn't very sweet, making the overall flavor a bit muted. The oatmeal cookie had a nice balance of just a bit of saltiness with an almost honey or caramelized taste when biting into the valrhona chocolate pieces-- very moreish :D - Chocolate bourbon pecan tart (4/5): more pecan-forward than chocolatey, and it was chock full of nuts. MT enjoyed this one as it wasn't too sweet. I was glad it didn't taste like or have the texture of pecan pie but would enjoy it more if it had more chocolate flavor, maybe with a thick layer of chocolate ganache. It was quiet on a weekday morning with plenty of parking in their lot. Inside, there were two tables and self serve water (yes!). The two staff members inside were friendly, and our visit just seemed very wholesome :) After our visit, I went to read more about the business on their website-- really neat to learn about the owner's journey and realized she was one of the people working in the kitchen that day! I love seeing this place's Saturday morning specials on Instagram every week, so one Saturday I finally woke up early enough to go try the pastrami croissant. The croissant itself was the real star. It was so flaky and so rich. I found myself peeling off layer after layer of the bread before even getting to the filling. The pastrami and mustard inside were great, but honestly... I just wanted the croissant. That said, it was a bit pricey. I would absolutely love if they sold plain croissants regularly because the pastry alone is worth the trip. I live nearby so I had been wanting to go to this place for a while as I had heard a lot about it. I went on Saturday to see what they had. Parking was really easy as there is a lot in the front and it was not busy. I got two pastries - a Cherry Bakewell Tart and an Almond Blueberry Financier. It is fairly small and the people there were kind. The pastries were delicious. The shortcrust base of the Cherry Bakewell was perfectly crumbly and the cherry jam was just the right amount of tartness. The Financier was equally tasty as the blueberries also had a similar sweet and mildly tart taste that balanced the buttery almond cake. Both pastries go great with coffee or tea. I will definitely be adding this bakery to my Heights rotation. I look forward to tasting more of their items and hopefully trying some of their weekend specials! read more

I really appreciated the neat hand writing. You are allowed three words... generally it's "Happy Birthday (Name)". The baker wrote it much neater than I can do with a pencil or pen. Well done! It's controversial, but I wasn't a huge fan of an automatic gratuity of 15 percent and being asked twice to tip online, especially before receiving the cake or experiencing the service. It can be manually adjusted whatever value you prefer, but I rather the employee's wages be fairly baked into the price - just personal preference. We bought some day-old cookies for a discounted price. No regrets there! We enjoyed every bit of it! No vegan options (currently) for those who live that life style - sorry! Fluff is a local Heights bakery that offers lots of sweets and also savory specialty items on the weekend. It's kind of hidden away from the main street but they do have a parking lot (which is a plus for anything located in the Heights area). I went there to visit my friend Eunice who works there and she had great recommendations of course. I personally like "normal" basic flavors so I got the chocolate chip ($2.50) - trust me there's plenty of weird flavors like their couch potato. I just stopped here with my son today after a Yelp recommendation popped up. Unfortunately our service experience left much to be desired. After receiving our order, I went to read one of the cookbooks on their shelf when the owner came out and told me I couldn't read any of the books because someone before me spilled on one her books and ruined it for me. As we made our way to a table to eat she rudely told me where to get napkins and utensils. As we ate we heard her loudly telling someone in the bakery repeatedly she wasn't going to do something. Over all the vibes here were not welcoming . The cookies we had were good so if you're curious or have to have a sweet treat I'd recommend getting your order and leaving. There was an older lady there as well who didn't really engage with us. We got several cookies to try. Baked goods from the heart! My wife and I visited Fluff Bake Bar after watching Chris Shepherd's Eat Like a Local feature at their relatively new location in the Heights. We drove all the way from Pearland on a Sunday with the hopes of trying her featured apple cider doughnuts. We arrived 30 minutes prior to the 12pm opening and ended up being the first four people allowed in the bar with the line of people growing larger by the minute. I must admit we were a bit intimidated as we felt we needed to be decisive and quick with our choices, not wanting to overstay our welcome or appear as amateurs. But one thing that was noted immediately was the quaint, heartfelt vibes going on inside the bar. The smells were unbelievable, the sights of the cookies, doughnuts behind the glass were like we just stepped into a working kitchen, which it was of course. We made our selections of four apple cider doughnuts and a dozen of the ginger molasses cookies...we wanted more but felt nervous about being too glutenous on our first visit. We even had Chef Rebecca helping us out with our selections, what a treat in itself! Later that day and back in the comfort of our own home, we finally sat down to try our choices. First, the Apple Cider doughnuts were light yet full of flavor, with what appeared to be a layer of apple cider at the bottom...WOW! They were delicious. THEN we each shared one of the Ginger Molasses cookies...OMG, my wife and I were taken aback with the softness and flavor of this cookie. My wife commented on the fact that I said "Oh My" at least a dozen times and even teared up as I finished my last bite. I am now 56 and this cookie took me right back to my grandmother's kitchen in upstate New York where she made dozen after dozen of her famous ginger molasses cookies with sprinkled sugar on top. Hats off to you Rebecca and your team at Fluff Bake Bar; not only are your baked goods delicious but they are truly nostalgic...I do believe we will be frequent visitors...who cares about the drive! Another weekend night, another opportunity to try something new! On this particular Sunday night, we decided to head into midtown to find this Fluff Bake Bar. Parking could definitely be a problem but we managed to find street parking around the corner (free on Sunday's, yay!). The shop is small and unassuming but easy to find. It's larger than it seems but half is the kitchen (you can see inside). There is countertop seating inside with a table in the back. There's outdoor seating in front and out the back in a sort of courtyard. It's largely clean but a funny note is that the only trash can in the bathroom was tiny. Was up your paper towels before placing inside. Right when you walk in is the cash register and a simple menu but there's a refrigerated display case and a display counter of all their goodies. They seem to specialize in mainly cookies but they have other items as well. We decided to focus on cookies and step it up in the form of an ice cream sandwich because why not. I would have loved to try the couch potato but they use actual marshmallows (is that why the name - fluff??) which aren't vegetarian so... that was a no. I ended up getting Night Patrol (it had coffee in it for my husband who's a coffee addict) and a snickerdoodle to sandwich browned butter/brown sugar ice cream ($7). You can sample the ice creams. :) I got an iced chai with less ice and hubby got an americano with an extra shot of espresso because he likes it strong. Our other party member is controlling his diet so he had a cold brew with a milk chocolate oatmeal cookie. The cookies were DELICIOUS. I nibbled on them without the ice cream so I could judge them better. I liked the texture of the snickerdoodle better as it was chewier but you can't really go wrong. The ice cream had a whole other dimension to it because how can you go wrong with browned butter???? Whoever thought that up was a genius. As a whole, it was heavenly. They are on the big side so good enough to share, but if you decided you wanted dessert for a meal, have one to yourself. Plus, I found that they weren't too sweet! I admit I had some reservations on needing to guzzle water but I'm glad that wasn't the case. My latte ($4) was nice and aromatic. I don't think they used whole milk but quite enjoyable. Our other member thought his items were fine. My husband is always indifferent towards my food adventures but he seemed okay with them and he agreed they weren't too sweet. No worries; they're both lost causes. I'd most certainly return to get another ice cream sandwich trying other cookie flavors - and ALWAYS with that browned butter ice cream. read more

I'm more of a fan of more cake than icing this was vice versa. However, the bakery redeemed itself with some of the best cookies I've ever had. My favorite was this oatmeal chocolate chip it was the perfect texture of oatmeal and crispy but gooey inside. This shop is so cute and the treats are so perfectly made and well-salted! My all time fave is the Birthday Cake Whoopie Pies, because yummm they are perfection! Perfect amount of vanilla buttercream, and really moist cakey sides. Did I already say that these baked goods are perfectly salted?! I'm always down to eat the Couch Potato cookie, which is full of texture contrast from the chewy gooey dough center, to the crispness of the baked edges and the potato chips and pretzel bits. The Meyer Lemon Tart is also another gem! On another visit I had the Veruca Salt cake in a cup, and that salted caramel buttercream really makes the cake.
