The pour over I was served was pretty clearly underextracted. It's a shame too, because I could tell the coffee would have been great otherwise. The staff might want to sample their work every once in a while to make sure the coffee-to-water ratio is on point. My pour over also came with a little "bonus" shot of another brew, I guess for the sake of comparison, which was pretty cool, but it was also watered down. My wife's specialty latte was seriously excellent! Well done! As far as the atmosphere goes, I love the space and concept, but the staff were talking so loudly between themselves that it ruined the atmosphere. Seriously, I could hear people talking about their health issues, sex life, and life goals from across the room. I was so excited to try this place! The atmosphere is cool but upon walking in my first thought was "this place smells like gas (boiled eggs, maybe?)." My bf and I got a kick out of that. Anyway, the barista was nice and personable. We asked for recommendations and he actually took the time to go through the menu with us. There are tons of different things on the menu that I have never had before (like nitro coffee). We ended up ordering the voodoo latte and mocha. Let me tell you, those were one of the best lattes we have ever had! The latte was so smooth and had no bitterness to it at all. I was highly impressed. My sister and Mom went here a month ago and told me when I came home that I had to try it. They weren't wrong. Super friendly staff, incredibly nice, and helpful. The prices are very reasonable as well. It you get a thing of porridge, it's huge, and you'll be taking part of it home for sure. The large coffees are also super large so I'd def recommend getting a regular size, unless you want a really really big coffee. It was cool getting latte art and being service porridge on a silver tray for only $10. Much better quality than Starbucks or Dunkin', everyone should for sure stop in and try some coffee. This is a really great local owned coffee spot in the Valparaiso area. Overall, I really enjoy the environment in the two coffee bars we have here and how welcoming they are. I think the coffee is amazing but I would probably not recommend it to someone who drinks mostly sweet drinks, like Starbucks, as it's a lot stronger. My personal favorite is the Vanilla Bean Latte as it's not as strong as a lot of other menu options. (This is a good item to try if you're nervous about what to order.) read more

I love everything about this coffee shop; the artwork, quotes, customer art books and the coffee! They use Intelligencia coffee which is one of my favorite roasters. We order two beverages to share. I had the nitro cold brew coffee and they make the best in the Chicagoland area. Their nitro has great coffee flavor with no harsh bitterness, very smooth. They have some really unique coffee combinations. One has cayenne syrup, another has peanut butter syrup and one has black pepper. We opted for a Fluid Latte with maple syrup, cinnamon, clove and ginger. So many coffee shops make a "spiced coffee" and they overwhelm you with certain spices not Fluid. They perfectly balance the spices so you can still taste the coffee, a really good latte. The service was very friendly and the store has a really cool vibe! Amazing coffee shop. read more

I love this place. We went every single day of the long weekend we spent in Valpo/Chesterton. I was mostly in search of a good cold brew after having dessert elsewhere, and I was super excited to see they had nitro cold brew! The menu board contained wonderful selections of non-coffee drinks, standard coffee drinks, and then Fluid's own creations. I love the eclectic decor and the interesting seating options. The music was excellent too. You can even buy Tinker Coffee here! They also have a great selection of pastries for munching with your beverage. I stumbled on this place and saw it had 5 stars. Let me tell you, it deserves it. What a stellar atmosphere. There are so many good things to say. First off: great choices coffee and not coffee! Love their cold brew/ nitros. Our baristas (shoutout Christian and Logan) were phenomenal. They chatted with us and made us some of the local favorites. It's awesome that they feature local art; also, I'm a sucker for board games. Very welcoming place- a must if you're in Valparaiso. Local place that invests heavily in the community. They are open all year round with zero time off. They want you to come here and not go to the big guys and they do that the right way. Artists hang stuff on the walls for sale. They have open mics and many events dedicated to the community. Oh and they also do coffee and coffee like lunches and breakfasts. Great! When visiting downtown Valpo, stopping by Fluid is a MUST or you're missing out on one of the biggest gems. We are lucky enough to have one on each side of downtown so there's 0 excuse to miss it. Their coffee is the best you'll ever have and their sandwiches are perfect for breakfast or lunch while you're out. I wanted to take a quick moment and thank Carter for being an amazing over the top employee today when waiting on me. My gift card came up 28¢ short for my order and I didn't have cash on me. Without a single hesitation be reached into his wallet and used his own money to cover my balance. While 28¢ may not seem like a huge sum of money the fact that he just took care of it on his own without making me scramble to go to my car and dig for change was just so kind of him. I asked for his Venmo so I could reimburse him and tip, and he didn't want to accept. I just think this kind of an employee is true gem and needs to be recognized. Everything about this shop shouts community and happiness. From the outside itself, various stickers outline the exteriors. Upon entry, the art stands out along the walls. Comicbook depictions and murals alike show what this place is about - good times, and good coffee. I ordered the Voodoo and a Matcha bowl. Since my previous reviews of other shops, I've come to the conclusion that lattes are not my cup of - errr - tea. To no fault of theirs, I just wasn't a fan. I prefer basic coffee with almond milk and light creamer, mostly black. The matcha bowl was delicious. The flavors mixed beautifully, and everything tasted fresh. The service was friendly and welcoming. If you're bothered by casual swearing that might be an issue; I guess they are comfortable doing so with friends in the area. If you're looking to relax and whatnot, be advised, they have a strong following - all the desks were occupied when I arrived and continued to fill up throughout the afternoon. Since I was working, it wasn't an issue to me. Overall, this is a great coffee shop. Parking is VERY limited, and it was a bit too packed for my taste, which, frankly, is more of a personal problem. I don't like rating places one star but the experience i had here was low quality. i visited the location in michigan city and fell in love! i decided to stop at the original fluid in Valpo and i wish i didn't! we walked and needed to use the restroom before ordering coffee and as we were waiting for the rest of our group an employee asked us to move out of his way he had no manners. he rudely said "i need you guys to move out of the way". my boyfriend moved to the side and the guy proceeds to grab my boyfriends arm and lightly pushed him to move over. we didn't even get coffee after that we simply walked out and didn't give them our business. if you don't have good customer service you shouldn't run a business period. read more

Over the past year, I have visited Fluid a couple of times for cold brew, which I have always enjoyed for its high acidity that sets it apart from its more commercial competitors. Last week I came in to the cafe with the intention of ordering a pour-over, but was told they no longer make them here because it is "too time-consuming". First, no one was behind me to order. Second of all, the barista was still making specialty lattes which included three or more ingredients and took nearly as much time as a pour-over would have taken. Third, he directed us to the other Fluid location, which was not at the address listed on the website. The store is postured as a specialty coffee shop with a focus on the quality and sourcing of the coffee, but if pour-over isn't an option, then what is the point? read more
