I have used Philly Fit Dog to walk both my large dogs twice a day, 5x a week for about a 1 year now…read moreand I absolutely love and trust them, and there's nothing more important between a dog owner and the dog walker/sitter than trust! Let me summarize the main reasons why you should hire them. 1) They are VERY RESPONSIVE, there's nothing more frustrating than needing to make changes to your walk or book a walk for a last minute weekend and no one is responding. Whitney responds very fast and always does her best to fulfill your needs. She is very professional and has never let me down. 2) Walkers that pay attention and are attentive. I have had about three consistent walkers and they all follow the very specific long and detailed instructions I leave for my pups. Especially Bridget, she is wonderful and so caring with my dogs! 3) Petcheck technology, you can easily schedule/change, track the walk, view the walk report card, and see pictures from the walk. I also leave instructions and building codes on here, it's very easy to use and seems like Whitney checks it very often when you requests new walks. You can also leave notes for the walker that day, this is useful if there are minor changes or if you just need to leave a FYI for your walker. Let me tell you, I have gone through my share of crappy, inconsistent, dog walkers, and it can be very frustrating, but with Philly Fit Dog I can go to work with the peace of mind that my pups will be in good hands, and I can't say how big of a relief that has been. Thank you Philly Fit dog!!

We have…read moretried many independent dog walkers that were not reliable as well as many companies that did not prove to live up to our expectations. Rittenhound is not only have a great dog walking/pet sitting business but they have one of the best businesses in the city, period. The owners are down to earth, responsible, organized people who take the time to treat each client and dog with individualized care. They assigned us a walker, Noah, who handles our two dogs with ease. He arrives on time, spends a 30 minute walk briskly walking the city and then takes the time to return to our house and spend another 10-15 minutes playing with the dogs. We pay for a 30 minute walk but our dogs get 45+ minutes of attention, easily. The company sends invoices via paypal which is a great and easy paperless option and they communicate (via e-mail) on a weekly basis about schedules. The walkers also leave detailed report cards after each walk that prove to be very informative and helpful. Overall, Rittenhound may have a high(er) price tag than the competitors but they are worth every penny.

Not only did they leave us a detailed and adorable report card, but sent us picture text messages everyday so we could see how happy the boys were at the dog park and at home! They've never been left home alone for that long before, and I was nervous at first. But the messages and updates were greatly appreciated and comforting. We came home to two very tired and content dogs. Reliable, affordable, and extremely friendly. We will definitely be referring Rittenhound to all of our doggie friends! Thanks again.

But my recent experience with Philapets (and the fact that there are no recent reviews) is forcing me to warn others about this business. I have used Philapets since 2009 to take care of my cat. Back in 2009-2010, they were great. Absolutely wonderful. The pet sitter assigned to us would personally email us every day when they arrived at the house. And we could get in touch with them directly. I would see our sitter out in South Philly and say hello to her. Since then, Philapets has come under new ownership and it has gone downhill. Earlier this year, we sent an email requesting a visit for two days- Saturday and Sunday. We got a confirmation email stating we were on the schedule. Great. The weekend of our trip comes and we didn't hear anything from them confirming our appointments, but we didn't think anything of it. Over the entire weekend, we didn't get any type of confirmation email stating they were able to enter our home and feed/water the cat, but again, we didn't think anything of it. Upon arriving home, we noticed that his food bowl was LICKED clean (which never happens with him- he always has a few kernels in there). Also, they leave these "while you were away" notes for each day they visit and we only had one for Saturday. I thought it was odd, but figured she/he just didn't leave one on Sunday. A few days later, I get the invoice for the visit and they only charged us for Saturday. Very very odd. At this point, I am starting to get worried they missed our Sunday appointment I call the office to inquire and they inform me that we WERE on the schedule for both days, but they need to check with the sitter. Later, I receive a call from Philapets and they tell me there was a mixup because they were "changing computer systems" and the sitter only came Saturday because she had the "wrong schedule". First of all, my email requesting service had both days mentioned, so I don't know how our visits got on "two different schedules". Also, I wrote a note and left it on our kitchen table next to the cat treats and toys (where they left the "while you were away" note--- so it was obviously out in the open for them to read) that gave separate instructions for Saturday and Sunday. So obviously the sitter either a) didn't bother to read my note b) read the note and didn't catch the Sunday part of it or c) read the note, read my reference to Sunday and just didn't care to follow up with management about the schedule. The manager apologizes to me and offered a free visit in the future. I accepted her apology but asked to have our keys back because I cannot trust this will not happen in the future. A few days later, I get the keys back in the mail. I also should note that I never received an apology from either of the owners. Also, they went ahead and charged my credit card for Saturday. They couldn't have comped that day to make up for the fact that my cat went hungry on Sunday? Long story short, Philapets used to be a great service but they are severely lacking right now. To be fair, my experience may have been a fluke, but do you really want to chance your pets safety? I sure don't.

Thank you Stephanie!…read more My anxiety-ridden rescue, Honey, was spending time away from home for the first time without me. I wanted to bring her to a boarder that would not put her in a crate and forget about her all 5 days. Honey has the tendency to hide and resist walks. She's one of these rare people in Philadelphia who has so much idealism about the environment and furry creatures. She has two dogs herself, a French bulldog and this super adorable Pug that I want to sneak home with me. Her philosophy is very much connected to animal psychology, so she doesn't really think "Oh, time to walk the dog." Rather she spends time with the dogs and gives them whatever they need in the moment. She does some training although I don't know the specifics of that. She likes to give feedback to owners about what the dog is doing, kind of like a nanny would do with a child. I have learned a lot of things from her, but to be honest, she sometimes says things that are over my head. She has boarding opportunities although they need to be able to get on with her own dogs. She is ridiculously affordable and I know for a fact that she'll negotiate with people. At the very least, I suggest you call her and bring your dog over to meet her. I think that would be the best way to see if there's a fit. I almost can guarantee that your dog will love her. And you will too.
