I called to make an appointment 2 weeks ago for my sons perm and specifically told the person on the phone to make a note not to reschedule or cancel the appointment because they did the same thing last time and cancelled the appointment without notifying me and I only found out when I got there because Maria said she had cancelled it. The lady said not to worry and she was scheduling the appointment with Maria and would make note of it. Fast forward to today, I get a call from Maria saying the person who we were scheduled with does not feel comfortable doing it and was canceling. I told Maria the appointment was scheduled with her not someone else. Maria says sorry but she can't do anything because it's not her fault. I said the same thing happened last time we made the appointment and that's why I asked for there to be a note. Maria kept saying she apologizes but it's not her fault, but in a rude tone. I was upset and when Maria kept saying it wasn't her fault, I told her it was her salon so how could she just say that and leave it at that. She snapped at me saying she is the owner but isn't their babysitter. If that was the case why wasn't the person who supposedly said they weren't comfortable call and notify us. Plus why would it take 2 weeks for them to realize they were not comfortable. My guess is someone who wanted to have a service that paid more wanted to come in so she put money over clients. No wonder all her former staff have left her. I've heard stories of how bad and rude of a "boss" she was and now I got to experience it first hand. I ended up calling Papillon Salon and the lady was so nice and said the person who does their perms was out on leave but gave me a number to someone who does do them in Natomas when she didn't even have to go out of her way to do so. read more

I have visited this salon two times total, both times they were able to fit me into their schedule the same day I called. The first time was about half a year ago. The stylist seemed new but spent a lot of effort and time making sure that I was satisfied with my haircut. Because of this positive experience, I decided to visit again for another haircut. During my most recent visit, a different stylist cut my hair and I could tell she was new. She spent less than 20 minutes on my haircut and was a bit unprofessional as she was checking her messages on her Apple Watch the entire time. She did not bother to show me my haircut at the end. When I got home, I realized that my layers were extremely uneven. Mostly my fault as I should have checked before leaving the place. I called the next day to see if they were able to fix it. Initially they were going to have the same stylist fix it but I requested for a different stylist. Maria was able to schedule me in and she was very professional. She definitely knew what she was doing and ensured that I was satisfied with my haircut before leaving. Friendly and respectful service. A bit disappointed that my haircut is a shorter than I would have liked because of the fix but 4/5 star for great customer service and satisfaction guarantee! I called in 45 min before they were closed just for a quick cut in the front so I could have some bangs. Krista (not sure how to spell her name right, should have asked) is so amazing! After going here for 4 years, I think I can give my word that Susan is the BEST hairstylist. In my opinion of course. She has cut and colored my hair for the last four years & I don't trust anyone else but her to. I decided to let my cousin dye my hair when I was in Australia last summer (2017) but then she didn't give me what I wanted. I texted Susan and made an appt for when I was back in the states and Susan was able to fix it AND give me exactly what I wanted. I get so many compliments from people - even when my balayage is grown out. Susan is really nice and easy to talk to AND she is amazing at what she does!! Better yet, you can always expect the stylists at Focus to cater to your preferences. The first time I came here Bianca cut my hair and gave me layers. She did a great job, making sure not to cut my hair too short. The second time, Roberto cut my hair and he did an AMAZING job! He really thinned out my hair and kept my length. This is my go to place to get my hair done In Natomas. Everyone is really nice and mostly Spanish :) my people $35 for a cut blow dry and style They do the best job and I've been to like 10 other. Salons and their is no comparison. About $250 for turning my black a$$ hair blonde. I decided I wanted a rose gold. Monica... my favorite stylist... looked it up to get the exact color I wanted. They were able to fit me in for a same-day appointment which was great. I requested a root color and trim. I'm a positive note: I am pleased with the root touch up and the color does look good. My stylist (didn't catch her name) was mostly sweet but on the quiet side which I didn't mind IF there wasn't the lost in translation when it got down to what a "trim" meant. When I advocated and spoke up her response was not very professional ("well you could've told me before e started") so there is room for improvement with conversing with a client and really understanding what's being asked so BOTH parties understand equally. Plus $45 for a trim is too steep especially when there's long layers - why would I pay $45 for someone to trim the very last layer at the end of my long hair - I could've done that myself. The appt ended up taking longer than it should have and unfortunately after leaving I felt like I still had product that was not completely washed out of my hair (especially the at the nape of the neck). Will just have to deal with it for the 48 hrs befor washing my hair after color. I would suggest to that particular stylist to better familiarize herself with product lines and though she was sweet, I left feeling like she may need some additional training - also "Moroccan oil" hair products have oil in them and a direct hit to the top of the head is not the best placement. Can't wait to wash all this stuff out of my hair. Overall - color looks great for root touch up but trim/cut could've done without in hindsight. I tried something new and it didn't work out for me so will not be going back. Also reading all these wonderful reviews about Maria - I presume she was the more seasoned lady who was louder than anyone else and kept talking to the "Alexa" speaker in addition to the decibal level of her conversation with her client. Maybe that works for some folks but definitely an off putting experience for me and my ears could've done without all that. read more

I was really looking forward to get some high lights on my hair. I had a scheduled appt for my hair today, but the place didn't allow me to bring my daughter in due to covid. So I was turned away. We both we wearing masks, but they said there is no waiting area for her to sit. I wished they mentioned this policy on the phone before I scheduled/arrived there. Poor communication on their part especially if you are saying you're following covid guidelines, make sure you point that out to your customers so they don't bring anyone with them and plan for a sitter. read more

I've been a regular at Focus for a couple of years now. I really like Maria, the owner. She's very friendly, professional, and decently priced. Recently, I've had my young adult daughter start going there for her trims also. We've made appointments for her with other stylists because Maria is often booked up. We've had some good stylists with equally quality treatment and affordable prices. But the last two times she has gone by herself, the stylists have charged more and given less. It used to be that a wash was included with your haircut. Sometimes they just spray it damp, trim it, and then blow it out. That's fine. But now the alternative stylists are saying washing and hair-drying is extra. This time, the stylist (Crystal) did not even wet her hair let alone wash it. She just dry-trimmed it and then said she was done 15 mins and $45 +tip later. My daughter was too intimidated to question her methods or the cost. After we talked about it, I decided to call and speak to Maria directly. Maria said that she lets the contractors charge their own prices and that they are not required to include washes or any other treatments. I was very disappointed. I am happy to pay for expertise and service. I understand prices have gone up in general. But I will not pay for poor service and do not enjoy getting ripped off. My mother has not been to a hair salon in over 10 years. She has been coloring her own hair for the longest time, with varying degrees of success. With the holidays coming up, my brother coming home from the military and all of us taking a family trip for Christmas, she decided to splurge and go to a hair salon to get her hair colored. She talked about it for days with excitement. Even this morning, the date of her appointment, she was so excited. I was at her home when she got the call. Her appointment was for 1:15 today and they called at 11:30 to say that unfortunately they would not be able to do her hair. Apparently, despite my mother having an appointment on the books for days, they let too many walk-ins come in and now said the salon was at capacity. This to me is the most unprofessional act a hair salon can do. Not only is it ridiculous and unprofessional to take walk-ins that you cannot handle knowing that somebody has an appointment and then cancel the person who had the appointment...it is greedy. Apparently, this place is hard up for money so they can't turn away a walk in. The person who called her to cancel the appointment offered nothing within my mom's schedule to make this right before our trip in a couple of days. HORRIBLE salon management. I would not recommend going here. Ever. Thank you for ruining my mom's Christmas! To anyone reading this who is looking for a great hairstylist, I would suggest Leanne from Luxe salon on J street. Another style squeezed me in and I spent 6 hours at the salon for a cut and color. I gave this place a second chance for a cut/color and the stylist calls me two hours before my appointment to cancel but didn't have her calendar to rebook me and she would call me back. 5 days later and still no call. not a good choice of hair salon, the person who cut my hair seems like a new haircutter (not sure about her lenght of experience she has). i felt like I was her guinea pig for practicing her haircutting skills on me. I really wanted to wait a few days, do a wash and restyle before I left my review. I made an appt Friday with Melissa as a new client. I showed up about 10 Minutes early as my appt was at 5pm, I was told it would be about 10-15 minutes, I graciously came back I. 15. I wasn't seated in a chair until 5:25pm. Prior to being seated when I came back I wasn't greeted by anyone, was ignored as I stood aimlessly in the doorway as there is nowhere for any waiting client to sit and wait. I almost left at that point. Once I was seated I explained to Melissa I had very thin hair and we chose to cut my hair dry. I had to remove my glasses so I wasn't really able to see what she was doing. I wanted some simple layers, and a trim on my bangs. She layered and trimmed my hair forgetting my bangs so I had to pull my hair forward and explain to her how I wanted them cut, I showed her where I wanted the shortest piece below my eyebrow and she proceeded to cut the shortest piece In the middle of my forehead. Not happy. It was a pretty lack luster cut that I paid $35 +tip on. She then asked ME to fill my hair to make sure it was even. Ummm isn't that your job to make sure my hair is even? Well needless to say, I washed and styled my hair today and she failed to even layer the entire right side of the front of my hair, and I had to get my old shears out form beauty college and correct this hair cut myself. When I left I was underwhelmed, slightly irritated, no I'm just mad I even waited and paid for this. My suggestion is Melissa needs some more training and short apprentice under an experienced stylists before she starts taking her own clients. She doesn't really listen to the detail of what the customer is asking for, and doesn't know how to check her work herself and go through the hair and thoroughly ensure her haircut is technically even. Not happy, don't recommend. I'm only giving an extra star because she held a decent conversation. read more

She took a chunk of my hair and cut it at chin level. I had been growing my hair out for 5 years and it was all the way down to my back. The lady gave me choppy layers all the way around. Not only I was able to get a refund, the owner personally offered to meet up with every few months to fix my hair. She knew I was nervous and didn't want to take too much off even though I asked. She had really good decision making and suggestions for me. When my hair was done and dry I wanted it a little shorter and she didn't mind cutting it a little bit. Had a great experience here! I didn't get the name of the stylist but he did a great job! I came in for a trim, layers, and to thin out my hair since my hair is really thick. I showed him pictures and he did exactly what I wanted in the picture! I also liked that when he was cutting the length and thinning it out, he'd stop and ask me if it was okay or if I wanted to cut it more or thin it out more! Loved how he was communicating with me and asking for feedback throughout the process instead of just doing the job. Also the price is great!!! $35 for wash, cut, and style! That's a steal! I got my hair done here for the first time yesterday, and all I could say was "WOW"! Susan was my stylist and she hooked me up!! A previous stylist at a different salon used texturizers on my curly hair which I didn't know was bad until after the fact. Needless to say, Susan corrected that and my hair looks amazing. I got a full set of highlights which were priced more than reasonably, and she cut and styled my hair to perfection while even teaching me how to curl and tease my own hair. Kudos to Susan!! The only con I have leaving this place is the lack of professionalism of "the boss". She had an issue with something one of the young ladies did and confronted her pretty much in front of myself and another client. She was raising her voice at her around a corner in the salon, and that to me just was not professional at all. I understand as a business manager, there will be times you get upset with your staff- however I also know there is a time and place for everything. I felt horrible for that young lady! Next time, "boss", be a leader instead and constructively criticize your employee outside or when your shop is empty. read more
