Unprofessional and unorganized. Nothing but excuses for an error that was done on their part. Long story short, the website crashed for a brief period of time. Once it was back up, the site was reloaded with HTML and the link to purchase tickets changed without notifying anyone. If you had access to a computer and knew a thing or two about web development, you would have been able to access the html and discover the actual link. That said link was discovered and shared amongst others on Facebook while the rest of us who were stuck with phones or who don't have a Facebook account continued to refresh a page that would waste an hour of our time. Their tweet defended themselves saying that they never changed the link on anyone, but then on their Facebook post, they apologized stating that they overwrote the link after they brought the site back up. Not sure why they kept changing their story, but are you really going to give your business to a club that called its customers liars when they were called out on Twitter? I'm not upset that I wasn't able to buy tickets for a sold out show. I've been doing this electronic music thing for 10 years and sometimes it's just the way it goes, but it's another thing to mislead customers and waste their time and not be given a fair chance. Who knows? Maybe the correct link was shared amongst friends and people who work in the industry. It would appear that way, given some of these electronic music Twitter accounts made smug little comments about how they were able purchase tickets and how they sent the link to others. read more

After 14 years in Costa Mesa, Focus has moved to The Circle venue in Huntington Beach. Same great vibes, better venue. The Circle is rather large, has a semi-elevated upper level, an LED screen behind the DJ, 2 bars, and nicer bathrooms. It also has AC although it does still get hot with all the body heat. The dance floor extends out from the stage vertically so its a little harder to get close to the DJ but once you make your way to the front there is plenty of room. Focus books both big and small name DJs. They keep it affordable: you can sign up for guest list online which is either free or discounted, or purchase tickets which are usually around $10. This is a steal since you don't usually find clubs so inexpensive that bring such great talent. The club is 18+ and the crowd seems to skew toward the 18-23 range. Drink Specials before 10:30 are $2 Domestics, $3 Imports, and $4 well drinks. Dress code is super casual, no need to get dressed up. Just come and enjoy this club that is all about house music, good vibes, and run by 2 dudes who truly care about both. read more

So this is what they mean when they say the club is goin' up...on a Tuesday! This is an awesome weekly event to get your dance on for cheap. I got presale tickets for $5, although it can vary depending on the artists playing. The production and sound is very good! No dinky stages or sad speakers for you. Bring your earplugs. It was surprisingly crowded for a weekday, but it became clear why it was so popular...the music is a MOOD! It's only house music, so if you're not into that stay away. This place is pretty awesome. My friends and I came here for Kaskade's special appearance last night and I wish I had heard about this place sooner. We got there around 10:30 pm and there was still parking left. Since this venue was small, they only sold tickets in advance to a limited number of people. I really liked how they regulated the area. To park in the parking lot you had to show your ticket. It definitely warded off any people trying to sneak in or park in the area to dine at the restaurants close by. We got inside pretty quick (I'd say within 5-10 min) and I really liked the layout of the place. By the entrance there is a lounge of couches where people could just sit down and chill, then there is the dance floor, pretty small sized but it was never suffocatingly packed like how Sutra gets. Then there is a pretty long bar and an outside patio that sells tacos for $1. I tried them and they were delicious! The bathrooms were okay. There were only two stalls for the ladies restroom and around 11-12 before Kaskade came on it was crowded and I probably had to wait about 10 minutes. However after that, there was no line. The only reason why I am giving this place four stars is because the bartender wouldn't give us cups of water. We had been purchasing drinks all night and he would only sell us bottled water $4 each. Focus Tuesday is basically my local dive bar where I go to visit all my friends. But, the venue is far from being dingy and dirty like a dive. I have had nights where I spent $0 on glist not drinking, and other nights when I ball outta control and spend over $100 on a bar tab buying everything they have to offer. I haven't had a bad time at this new location. The staff from Emily scanning my tickets, the security guy that reminds me of Carl Cox and the bathroom guy are the nicest. They recognize me every time I show up. Production, DJ line up and friend line up are all always on point. Much props to Billings, Non-Fiction and the crew for all the hard work they put in to make this the best spot to be on Tuesdays for all these years! read more

I need to chime in here because they got a lot of negative flack recently due to website overload from Kaskade ticket sales. Focus was able to book Kaskade due to a long time history with him. We are lucky that they were able to bring Kaskade to OC for a redux show. It's sad that not all of us will be able to attend, but that's the reality of it. We should be happy and supportive of a small-time local nightclub focuses on the MUSIC! We have a wonderful place to come, dance, and enjoy our Tuesday nights. How many nightclubs come and go? Been a fan of Focus Tuesdays ever since I got into House Music a couple years ago, and started grooving it out with my friends. I started coming to this event when they were originally in Newport Beach. Always loved the music...however the crowds are a hit or miss depending on what you like to do when you're at events like this. I came to their new venue, The Circle in Huntington Beach, for the first time to see Billy Kenny's Extended Set 2017 hosted by Focus OC. In terms of parking, it wraps around the whole building, so if you are unable to find parking in the lots, be prepared to go zig-zag around for a while. The line we waited in was approximately 30 min (with tickets purchased). The actual venue was pretty interesting, the main bar is somewhat right by the entrance as soon as you walk in. The main stage was crowded and small. Forget that. But they had a second level that you take stairs towards that had a bar, and some wall seats that lined the wall and the back corner. Now that area was pretty nice, since there was a good amount of room to move around. They had a outside seating area where there were a couple selling Mexican food to attendees. Overall, the new venue is alright, looking forward to the new DJs that come through though! read more

New location in Huntington Beach (as of August 1st, 2017) which is HUGE with many sections including a large outdoor patio; which is now for all ages (not just 21+ like at the old location). The patio also has comfy chairs, tables, & my favorite feature of the patio by far is fire pits. The patio is also quiet enough to have conversations in which is nice. The new HB location has 3 bars inside so there never is a long wait for alcohol. The bar downstairs as the shortest wait time. The bathrooms are super classy & clean (especially compared to the old location in Newport Beach). Security is super easygoing & some are pretty hilarious too. The music on Tuesdays at Focus is primarily EDM or house music. Josh Billings who usually DJ's at every Focus event also hosts Focus; so If you go, be sure to meet him because he's super cool. My favorite part about Focus by far is the drink specials they have from when doors open at 9pm to 10:30pm. For example, a Bud Light is just $4! After that a Bud Light goes up to $6 so be sure to hammer down your alcohol before 10:30pm! If you RSVP online before the event, you save a few bucks on entry. NO WINE AVAILABLE and a shit ton of snarky attitude when asked.. I can't believe a place like this exists right in my backyard! Back in the days of yore, we used to rent this venue for Greek events at UCI, and although it was small, we always managed to have a great time here. Fast forward to now, light years later. Focus OC manages to pull some deep/funky/disco house talent that just totally blows my mind. Miguel Migs, Dusky, Miguel Cambell to just mention the last few months. Absolutely sick. Add this amazing lineup of DJs to the fact that this venue is intimate, the sound system is well matched to the size, and it's never packed to the rafters. Parking is free, there is food served all evening, and the crowd is seriously amazing. I think I'd come here for that last reason alone. I am so sick of attending events where most of the folks there have no idea that there is actually a DJ spinning, and although I know this is a reality of the scene, I like to consider Focus a little oasis in a desert of douchebaggery. With Josh Billings spinning most Tuesdays, you're pretty much guaranteed a fantastic night. AND, the price is always right. Easy 5 stars here. read more

Came here last night for: Focus OC 10 Year Anniversary with Kaskade! It was awesome! By the far...the cheapest Kaskade tickets...by far I mean...$10 for a KASKADE SHOW??! -NO BRAINER- & Congrats to Mr. Josh Billings to having this wondering event and for going 10 years strong! Heres my review of last night: -The venue is small, but not everything small is considered bad right? Since it was small and wasn't too overpacked...the night/event was set up to be a very INTIMATE night. -Theres only one full bar here...with two mini-bars (I think?) outside in the patio. This venue also has great happy hour specials on drinks and food. Happy Hour yesterday ended at 10:30? But no worries...even without the happy hour...drinks are still pretty cheap! -TACO MAN...outside on the patio on Tuesdays! a majority of the menu was only $1! Perfect choice of food...especially when your slightly intoxicated! -one bathroom -easy parking -one smoking patio -...and HOUSE MUSIC! Nothing to complain about this place! On the real tip, Focus plays some good House music for your Tuesday night craving. Resident DJs such as Wobs and Josh Billings know how to set it off. I say hands down the only great dance club in Orange County. The people are unpretentious, the DJ's are unsurpassed and the staff is magnificent (no, I don't work there or know anyone who does). I like to dance to good house music and often travel out of town to see the DJ's that I like. I discovered this place about 3 years ago when I saw that my beloved DJ Heather was spinning there. I went BY MYSELF which can be nerve wracking in a new place, but it couldn't have been more comfortable. Even the young girls (it's an 18 over spot) were friendly! Try to find that vibe from the girls at the 'beautiful people' clubs. Trust me, these are the truly beautiful people. I can't say enough about this place. If you're looking for some hookup type place go to Sutra, where dancing with someone may be mistaken as willingness to sleep with them. If you're looking to dance your butt off with other people who love house with GREAT music from all of the DJ's (not just the headliners) OC Focus is THE ONLY PLACE TO GO. read more

i was going to give it 4 stars, but for the simple fact that its somehow managed to do weekly tuesday night events for over a decade in orange county with legit House music talent. That earns its 5-star rating. Josh Billings does a great job of finding talent that is up & coming from across the globe & bringing them out to a small club, on a weeknight, to a welcoming & motivated crowd in suburban orange county. Thanks Josh. And not only bringing out the flavor of the day, you can also rely on Focus to have the local legends like Marques Wyatt & Doc Martin get slots behind the decks, as well as classic favorites of Chicago house like Colette & Farina. The Tacos on the smoking patio are a nice little feature & friendly on the budget. Focus isnt a stuffy bottle service focused place to be seen, its a place to groove & share the joys of house music. So while my friends and I are well past our 21st birthdays, its nice to bring out a young cousin, brother, or sister just past their 18th birthday & welcome them into a safe place where they can gain some appreciation for this wonderful music. The bar is priced right around most other OC bars/clubs, and while their service isnt impeccable, I dont have any major gripes with them. Not a good time. I went last night (Tuesday) with my girls, and we were shocked. First off, the bathrooms are tiny, only 2 stalls. They have this woman in the bathroom who hands you paper towels. That's awkward. After talking to some people, we were told that the crowd is kinda hipster. We were wearing denim shorts and nice tops, and we were waaaay overdressed. If you want to grind, or even dance, with a guy, this is not the place to go. It was like awkward dancing. People were mainly standing around or kinda shuffling. And the music...it is straight house music. Hence, really heavy bass beats and nothing to really sing or dance to. A guy was on the mic rapping this poetry stuff to the beat, and that was okay. The crowd was young, even for an 18+ place. There were a lot of groups, and no one was really mixing. Overall, if you really love house music, come here. If you want to dance by yourself, come here. After further consideration I have decided to up the rating to 5 stars. Here's why. The bloke that started the night is a great DJ and I happen to like his style. He also works VERY hard getting in real talent. Plus, the crew that he has assembled as residents are truly talented. I rock their sets all day long at work. Getting back to the talent that he brings in, they are some of the biggest names in the business. For example, Mark Farina, Donald Glaude, Derrick Carter, and JT Donaldson just to name a few. Love it! Keep seeing these reviews complaining about house music being played in a house club. I think this is odd and unfair to leave a poor review of you didn't look up the venue before going. I've been here several times and love it. Most the time the resident Dj's are good and guest artists are always kick it up a notch. Drinks are not too expensive, most around $8. I think people expect too much for a place that only does Tuesday nights. It's a small quaint venue, nothing fancy, all about the music. read more

I accidentally opened a new Yelp account, because I had forgotten about my old one. So I'm reposting this review about Focus Tuesday under my "old" account. I've frequented many clubs/bars in Hollywood, Downtown, & Newport Beach & I'm very picky. But I can't say enough nice things about Focus Tuesdays!! I've never had so much fun on a weeknight! A 10-year staple in the SoCal dance music scene, it is by far superior to any club I've been to in O.C. It's 18+, but I would have never even guessed that because all of the patrons are super-chill. It's the kind of place with the rock-your-body/Orange Show sound system & you can go wild, but everyone is only there to dance, so no one will try to talk to you and harass you like at the other clubs!! So I drive 40 miles one-way & there's plenty of free-parking. The arched entryway is all "Spanish-Castle magic" & alludes to a great evening. Upon dancing around the club, I'm delighted that there's no smokey smell/sticky floors (which is always the case at other dance clubs.) I am already all danced-up after Focus' resident dj's open the place & to top that off there's is always a featured world-famous dj to finish the evening (James Zabiela one time, Harvard Bass, Dj Colette, Kaskade, & Miguel Migs to name a few?!:) I am always curious to see who is coming to Focus, so I subscribed to their non-spammy email list. Focus Tuesday at Tapas is uber cool but unpretentious. Probably due to it's unassuming location (which definitely sustains its allure) & top-tier dj's. Bunch of old wrinkled partiers holding onto there twenties mixed in with a bunch of younger crowds there to see the big name djs. Creeper ville galor! It is really hot in there are too dark. I'm updating my review because I am such a Josh Billings fan girl. I went there several times last month and yesterday and I couldn't stop screaming "I LOVE JOSH BILLINGS". Billings plays house music with some latinish tunes and old school hip hop. Love his remixes :) Good music by Josh Billings, 3$ Vodka Enery, $3.50 Cosmos, Juicy $1 tacos on the patio, and my really hott roomie. Can't get any better! Perfect venue to dance off your mid-week blues. Cons? My feet are so sore from dancing so much. Focus Tuesdays are a great place to shake your grove thing on a Tuesday night; and probably one of the only places in the OC that's poppin' off. They've been getting phenomenal DJs as of late and the resident DJs are equally good. The bar area can get pretty packed but there seems to always be room for more people on the dance floor; depending on who's playing that night the line can back up around the building so be prepared to wait a bit - but trust me, it'll be worth it! I went here on Tuesday Night and it was poppin? WHAAAT?! That's so crazy to me. Well mayb because DJ Colette was there and she was ABSOLUTELY AWESOME. I was so happy that my friends wanted to go here cause we all didn't know she was even spinning that night. Damn, she sings while she's spinning? GIRL IS AMAZING. Drinks are reasonably priced, there's dollar tacos in the back?! That's super smart to keep the crowd in if they have a bad ass case of the munchies! I was diggin how there were little dance battles between everyone. I've never witnessed it ever at a club that plays house/trance/electro etc. The clubs I've been to that spins that kind of music always have hoochie cooch girls that overly dress up and it's just not the same atmosphere here! I forgot, "wait I have been here" "I think it's 18 and over I hope not!!" What It isn't 18 and over some dud asks on the way in. Why, is that what you are into? No I'm 26 but my friends are under age... Well that sums up the age and mentality. I should have known if I forgot I have been there It couldn't be good. -- ie, He looks familiar. Did I sleep with him?-- NOT GOOD. Also a 26 yr old had under age friends. What He thinks he's cool because he took a high school chick to prom and scored alcohol for her friends mentality. But i went in anyways hoping Marques will pull a good crowd. No. He couldn't. The good + $5 b4 10:30 and discount drinks: beer , vodka energy, cosmo or midori sour about $3/3.50. Music was good but all the short Asian guys look like they were tone deaf and learned to dance by either the dance 360 show or the dance revolution game. Both bad. Usually deep house on tuesdays, check out the dj listings. Pretty dope stuff. Lots of dancers come and cypher. Pretty cool stuff if you're into the whole dance scene. I house dance so its a rather good place to session and groove. Tacos are good too. Be aware they play underground house, so no pop edm here. read more

A deep house venue that books some seriously legit artists (Mark Farina, just move down here already!!) just off Macarthur?! Don't worry, I drove right by it the first time I tried visiting Focus too. The sound system is impressive, there can be some rad bar specials and the tacos outside are YUM!! Of course there's a cover, because everything in OC charges a cover - I'm pretty sure they asked me for $5 the last time I walked into an Arby's. But the crowd gets into it and it's a pretty fun Tuesday night spot that totally beats the mindnumbing Newport experience. read more

This place is great. By far my favorite club in OC. There's some great music, a good amount of space, and a fun vibe. Most nights there's a group of breakdancers who form a circle and that's entertaining to watch. One thing I really appreciate is that everyone isn't grinding each other to death. Some people dance solo, or in groups, or perform, and that's alright. It makes the entire place a lot more fun and open. People are really friendly there and I've met some interesting people. There's a lot less unwanted touching too- I guess the bouncers do their job pretty well. It's a good fun romp with genuinely great house music and delicious tacos. What more could you ask for? read more
