You know those guys hanging out down on 7th and market? When you see them down there, you can be…read moresure you'll see them here. All across the country (the world, really) prices on brand name items are skyrocketing because stores can't keep their inventory from flying off the shelves and into the foil-lined backpacks of hard(ly) working boosters. And even though they traveled across the bay, jumping the turnstiles the whole way, noses running from needing that elusive shot of fentanyl (or the underdog, heroin), their 3-4 hour excursion will land them with a backpack filled with toothbrushes (brand name, 2-3 dollars apiece), tasters choice (2-3 big a$$ jars for $10) allergy medicine (3 boxes for $10) and other such sundries. They'll probably get 40 bucks IF they're lucky, and they'll have that cash for barely 10 minutes. Because they are just a hop-skip-and jump away from the Honduran narcotic superstore that will ensure that warm fuzzies are a-comin', and a few crackhits from now, they'll toss their syringe in the street, and head out to break your car window to snatch up your phone and backpack. Rest assured, If you are an early riser, you might just be able to get that phone for a fraction of what you paid the first time and all of this is possible thanks to places like the Mission Flea Market. God bless capitalism!

Pet-friendly - make sure your pet is on a leash at all times. My favorite part of this event is seeing all of the cute doggies. Some are dressed up in hats, sunnies, clothes some may have gotten from vendors at the event. Each month, the selection of vendors do change -- you might see the same ones always coming back while others might not return or be back other months. It's helpful if you maybe have a cart with you -- only if you're the type of person who plans to find a lot or larger items. The vendors for the most part are placed in sections based on what they're selling. There is a food court where there are food trucks and booths selling drinks and snacks. Picnic tables, live music, entertainment for kids -- outdoor games like chess, bean bag toss, connect four, jenga, legos, hula hoops, etc.

I was worried about the parking/traffic situation because the last time I went to the Alameda Antique Fair I almost lost it. Luckily, this is a well oiled machine with folks directing traffic. I arrived at 11 on a Sunday and left at 2:30. The organizers do a great job creating an event that is organized and flows. The vendors were great, tons of food trucks, interactive "survivor- inspired" games for the whole family, DJ with bubble machine, live art, a stage in the middle of the food truck area with live music, and bars and bathrooms throughout. The only complaint I have is the vendor that sells pictures with birds for "charity." First, what charity? Second, why are you out here yelling at people that are considering promoting your business? Not sure why anyone would want some weird dudes putting birds of prey on people let alone pay for it. I watched one of them have a heated exchange with a dog owner who was walking her dog past the booth. So weird. I would absolutely return to and applaud the organizers for such a well planned and executed event.
