So what better way of stuffing your face on Christmas day than a visit to Fogo... My review teeters from okay to good. There were aspects of my visit that I really enjoyed and others that I was a tad disappointed. I'll start with the good... We were immediately sat down when we arrived for our reservation time. The new location is very nice and welcoming. The staff was attentive, I believe the manager was walking around greeting all guests so I have no complaints whatsoever about the professionalism here. What I was not impressed with was the food. The meats tasted old and not very flavorful. The salad bar was also very disappointing. Went here for a date and service was terrible. If you're charging $50/plate, at least be attentive to the customer's table. We were told it would be a 15 minute wait, so we sat at the bar while a table was being prepared, which was fine. When we were finally seated, it took 15 minutes to even get water and then we went to the salad bar and after we had finished our salads, it took an additional 10 minutes to get a plate and we had to ask for them. On to the main meal experience: the meat was okay for the most part, but some of it tasted funky. Now I don't mind a little blood in my meat, but when it comes to chicken, I don't like it cooked medium rare. There were several cuts of meat that had to be sent back to the kitchen to cook more. They also kept walking right past us when we had our little cards flipped over to the green side. Just really not a good experience overall. We've been to several other locations, so we know what Fogo de Chao can be and don't think our expectations were unrealistic. This location just needs to step up their game and be more attentive. They did not pay attention to the notes that I put in my reservations. The server was very whispering and quiet. I had to ask her multiple times what she said. when we had our cards turned over on green to receive more meat, my dad asked for well done steak about four times and we had Ronaldo actually check up on our steak for us which I guess was a manager who I spoke to for a brief time.i was very disappointed in the experience. I thought it was a dressy place as well people looked like they were coming right off of the street and eating. The wait staff was quick and not friendly. I don't know if I'd go for a birthday or nice event it was giving expensive buffet. So I can only give stars based on my strictly takeout experience here (ie cannot comment on the service), but that said: with the limited information I have, the food here is DELICIOUS! I wish it was a little more balanced (and what I got was brought to me while I was working by a colleague attending a work event I couldn't go to since I had to be in a hospital. To elaborate on that, my meal was composed of two types of VERY delicious steak with the loveliest tangy herb dressing, as well as a chicken salad that was good (but too much meat in combo with with the steak), as well as a thick and tasty type of bread (almost like a cross between a roll and cornbread but much more moist and buttery), and some VERY delicious mashed potatoes. -- I don't know if my colleague preferentially requested all protein and carbs with no veg or if that's how it was packed but that is the ONLY reason I took off 1 star - otherwise everything I received from him (my colleague) was DELICIOUS. I've walked by the restaurant outside before and can certainly vouch the ambiance would be lovely inside even though I've never actually eaten in there. This downtown location does seem like parking could be an issue (or at least not free, since it's right on a busy part of Congress ave) but otherwise it's an elegant location with elegant feel. If you haven't be fortunate enough to try a Brazilian steak high, I suggest putting it on your list. Fogo de chao in downtown Austin is a great option to try for the first time or give it a whirl if it's been a while. The ambiance is busy as the gaucho's are running by tables in a dizzying pace to bring sizzling proteins to the customers. This is a GOOD thing as you always get warm meat. Start with the salad bar, but be careful as it's not the star of the show, rather it's a background note in a much bigger production. There are all sorts of options to chose from so it's based on individual tastes but I really enjoyed the Caprese salad with fresh tomatoes, moist mozz and basil to round it out. Other great options are the cheeses, hummus, olives, and pasta salad. As is their claim to fame, the meats are amazing. I found the lamb to be seasoned perfectly and I enjoy medium rare. The ribs were ok but probably the weakest member of this orchestra. My personal favorite is the beef ancho (ribeye) with great marbling and again I opt for medium rare. Other options include the tenderloin, pinanha (top sirloin) and bacon-wrapped steak. The chicken is good but I'm hear to expand my waistline on four legged critters. The drink selection is ample and the wines are very nice (opt for something from South America). The only drawback is it can be pricy but it's well worth it as the food coma is enjoyable. This is our second visit in the last 6 months. First visit was just _ok_. Service was slow. This visit was worse. Food was good but service was slow and inattentive. Our assigned waiter was attentive but we did not see her again after the first 15 minutes. We arrived at 2:15 on a Saturday. Very few tables seated. When we left at 4 approximately 30% of tables were seated in the spaces near the salad bar and bar. Appeared to be plenty of staff. First bread was cold and hard. Long wait (20+ minutes) for edible bread. After our waiter left the service went downhill. No drink refills. Sides came out well after we'd moved from salad bar to meat. No side refills. No one to bring the check. Then no one take take my payment. Used to really enjoy this restaurant but cannot justify the price with the poor service. read more

Given what we got for the price, it was a bit of a let down. Regarding food: - Lamb - by far, the lamb was the best cut of meat we had. It was super juicy, flavorful, tender and cooked to perfection. Not gamey at all. But I don't think lamb should've been the best cut of meat at a Brazilian steak house. All the other meats were a hit or miss. We'd ask for medium rare cuts, and sometimes would get good pieces but would often get slices that were overcooked, with a crumbly texture. (Definitely not what you want.) - Picanha steak - good flavor, juicy; but tougher texture. - Ribeye - flavor was a bit lacking bc the meat was a bit too thick. As you bite into the center of the steak, there would be less flavor, leaving you a bit disappointed - Top sirloin: about the same as picanha. Good flavor and juicy but not as tender. - Bottom Sirloin - resembles brisket. Tender. Juicy. - garlic steak - do not recommend. too thick and tough.. flavor on outside is good but doesn't reach too middle ( mostly flavorless meat with hint of garlic) - filet mignon - the piece we got was over cooked and crumbly in texture. Not very juicy. - fries - don't waste your time. It was tough and oily. - Mashed potatoes - these were really good/rich - cheese bread - AMAZING. Bread had such a deep, cheesy flavor, but in a subtle, not overpowering way. Regarding service: - waiters were nice, BUT the meat would come out in waves vs a steady flow. So there were often times where we'd sit for 2-5 minutes waiting for the servers to come back out. Regarding ambiance: - it was really packed. Not super great. To top all this off, there's no easy to find parking outside so expect to either search for a while, walk a long distance, or pay $15 or $20 for valet parking. In sum, we definitely had some good food/great cuts of meat. But for the price we paid, the meat we had was too inconsistent. Save your money or go elsewhere. read more

I am not sure what happened to Fogo. I go to other cities- it is spectacular and the only game in town. Here in Houston, we are up to what about 8 different places- Avenida Brazil- all three family-owned locations are fantastic. Casa do Sul our newest try- is really good and open for lunch on Saturday when Avenida isn't and we need a fix. Even Chama Gaucha is in the running- most are from Fogo. Back to fo Fogo itself. The service seems to be slower than when we first came. Extra star for the salad bar it is very good. I have to say it has improved since my last visit. This last time I had a Brazilian with me. Even she said, "wow, Chama is much better". Service is fine. Saving grace the salad bar. Pretty decent wine selection. And I don't want constant flank steak or bacon-wrapped anything. We experienced their dinner and brunch service MULTIPLE times and even attended the Prisoner wine dinner event that they had because we loved everything about this place so much!!! We're always so full to try their dessert, but one day we will have to just pick one up because we KNOW they will be amazing! Couldn't hear waiter because he mumbled. Took awhile to get our drinks (just sodas and tea). No direction on where salad bar was located etc. We were there almost two hours, they didn't bring any of the included sides to our area until we were done, so for just about two hours. Fogo de Chao in Austin recently moved to a new location on 200 Congress under the Austonian and you are going to LOVE it! The new decor is beautiful and definitely not as dark and closed in like the old location. A lot more natural light and airy. They have a lovely patio surrounding the 1st floor and then one on the second floor. Salad bar delicious as always(sorry my photo isn't the prettiest). The butternut squash soup is a must try! This place is literally heaven in your mouth. It was my first time going for my birthday and we had reservations. Service was top notch. The way it works is you pay for the continuous meat service and you flip a card to say if you want the meat that they are cutting and serving. Be prepared to get your fill of food. They also have the salad bar. The meat service is extra. It is expensive to go, but well worth it. Meat was tender no matter what you got. The ambience is classy, but also relaxed. Togo has always been a favorite of mine. When i lived in vegas, the service was impeccable. They would make sure drinks were always full and nothing left of the table as far as plates and even crumbs. Our experience at this location was very poor. When greeted to take our drink order, we ordered a few things and asked for a few extras. I never got my soda, we didn't get our bottle water, we didn't get the paper napkin we asked for or any of the other items. We flagged the guy down after finishing our salad bar plates, reminded again, and only received one of the things, My soda. After this we never saw our waiter again. We had a few plates that stayed on our table.I flagged the manager down to get extra bread eventually and he got someone to take the extra plates off. And he did come back once after that. We also had to flag someone down for our bill and we paid through that person. It was just 2 of us so it wasn't a long dinner. I wouldn't gripe about these things at some places but you come here for the experience and pay a price for good food and service. Another odd thing, most of the runners were nice but a few of them were so fast I couldn't get words out before meat was on my plate and 2 were super pushy, almost mad if you didn't want to take what they had. We went here for my husbands birthday. One might think that a vegetarian would never want to go to a place like this or that it would not have any options. We'll I was actually really surprised by the amazing salad bar they had! There were SO MANY vegetarian options! There were also many vegan options at the salad bar as well. My only con about this place was that there were no dairy-free desert options. My friends and I came here on a whim on a monday evening, made an appointment on the phone with a very nice lady, and got seated early when we showed 20 minutes before our scheduled time. The star of the show was our waitress Nina who super kind, checked on us very often --but not so much that it was overbearing-- and was overall very attentive.
