I absolutely love the Chicken Pastel. It has me in a chokehold. Anytime I'm near west campus, especially late at night, I can't help but stop in for the piping hot, pulled chicken, fried, cheesy, hot sauce topped goodness. For a night owl, this is my go to late night snacky snack. As for the other offerings on the menu, there are plenty. But when I find what I like I rarely stray from it. The service is always fast and friendly and the outdoor food truck bench table sitting makes for good people watching while you wait. But I never stick around for long, there are college students everywhere... Duh, Sarah! All in all, I love this little hidden gem food truck, the overhead bulb lighting's nostalgic flare, and the pastel drenched in hot sauce, always get my juices flowing!! read more

The churro on the truck picture looks nothing like the churro you get. I was looking forward to a traditionally long, and crunchy churro. They were not that, but dang they were awesome!!! Soooo good! Holy Romeo and Juliet!?! Who knew that guava and cheese were 2 things that should go together? I for sure didn't and then put it inside of a delicate, perfect crispy pastry ... I mean it's what dreams are made of! If I knew about this when this truck used to be south I would have been there more often! Now they are located in a food truck park by UT campus. Depending on the day and time parking can be difficult but it's worth the head ache for a pastel, especially the Romeo and Juliet! The food here is amazing and the staff is always friendly. To get straight to the point- this was SO GOOD. For context- pastel is a Brazilian street food that closely resembles an empanada. It was a lot bigger than I expected and all of them were so flavorful. The shredded chicken mixed with parsley and green onion was a *chefs kiss* and THAT CHEESE HIT DIFFERENT uuugggghhh it was like soft and fluffy almost like cream cheese. The second one I had was the "Bauru" which had shredded ham, sliced tomato, mozzarella, and oregano. The mozzarella was perfectly melted and the flavor of the ham was divine. The last one I had was called "Romeo & Juliet". I got this one because it reminded me of Puerto Rico with the guava paste and cheese pairing and BOY it was so so so good. The owner gave us two guava drinks to try. The food was the best thing I've ever had! I was blown away. We went back ordered two more cans of juice and another meat and cheese. Ate that. I've been in Austin for over 12 yrs and one of the things I missed the most about Brazil was pastel (Brazilian empanadas) finally they open this one and it's amazing! been meaning to try this place out since they moved to West Campus and im really glad i did. came for the hearts of palm pastel but they were out, so i went with cheese and it was crispy, flaky and perfect. Price is very reasonable since it's quite big - larger than my hand! can confirm that this is the closest you can get to authentic Brazilian street food in Austin. Also Diogo is so nice and service is fast. I wish they hadn't been out of the diet Guaraná or the hearts of palm, but I did come by on a Sunday afternoon, so I'll have to come back another day for those. read more

I came here last weekend right as they were opening and could not have been more satisfied! I tried the chicken and beef pastels. The chicken was super creamy and comforting, but my favorite was hands down the beef pastel. The olives and onion gave it such a perfect flavor! Both were served with vinaigrette to put on top, which is basically the Brazilian version of pico de gallo. I'm excited to come back and try some of the other pastels! There is a small parking lot for the area food trucks, but when I went (around 7 pm on a Saturday) street parking was also very easy to find. It's right next to Manolis and Bananarchy, so you have lots of great dessert options after you eat. read more

The food truck's location is awesome with nice outdoor lighting for a perfect chill date night or a fun outdoor dinner with friends! The pastels here are incredibly yummy, well-priced, and bigger than I expected. I ordered the chicken and hearts of palm to-go over the phone, and when I got there about 10 min later, they were ready to go in a cute little bag, smelling deliciously tempting on the ride home. I'd never had a pastel before, but was very pleasantly surprised. The dough on the outside was flaky, and had been fried to a bubbly crisp. The oil they were cooked in was obviously very fresh and clean tasting. Old oil is one of my personal pet peeves, so that scored some major points for me. The hearts of palm pastel is vegetarian, and has a mix of palm and mushrooms. Very tasty whether you have dietary restrictions or not! Tbh, I haven't had the chicken and cream cheese one yet. The other was so filling that I saved the chicken one for my lunch today, and I'm very excited to eat it. The food truck is pretty easy to find, parked at the lot on the cross streets of south 1st and w live oak. Bonus--there's a fantastic South American dessert truck and the bananarchy truck in the same lot, so it's a great place to hang out for some dinner and dessert. read more

I was hungry on my way home from the gym tonight. I decided to stop at the food trailer park on South First street. I walked over to see if they had Açaí bowls. They don't, but the guy started talking to me We talked about how they add guarana to the açaí bowl in Brazil. He told me about a food trailer on Barton Springs that has açaí bowls. He asked if I had tried pastel. I said that I hadn't. He was super friendly. So I decided to try a pastel. It tasted fresh and delicious. I bought the heart of palm version. He brought my pastel out to me and included a guarana soda like they have in Brazil without charge just because of our conversation. This guy was so friendly and nice. I will definitely go back. Waited 40 minutes for soggy, salty pastel!! Truly not great, couldn't even finish mine because it was so oily too! They are usually better so I guess it can be a hit or miss situation. I am fortunate enough to spend a good amount of my time in the West Campus neighborhood, and this place is my new spot. I get the beef and cheese and it's literally CONSISTENTLY the best food truck experience I've ever had. Every time. I also get the Romeo y Juliet for dessert (pastel filled with guava paste and mozzarella cheese) and it's so perfect.
