Old Fashioned
Richard A.

Generally, I have my lite birthday snack outside of the country but this year, I stayed in Austin and whenever I am in Austin on my birthday, I go only to the Capital Grille for my lite birthday snack. They know how to pamper me and make me feel at home. I arrived on time for my reservation and after being seated at my table, my server, Ron, introduced himself and asked if I would like something besides water and I said, "Yes, something with authority like an Old Fashioned". First, I ordered one of my favourites at the Capital Grille, the Lobster Bisque, made with North Atlantic lobster that is lightly sauteed and when served at the table, one can request that the server drizzle a little sherry across the bisque. My main course was the Sushi-Grade Sesame Seared Tuna, lightly seared to provide a flavorful crust, served with gingered rice, white soy, and sambal vinaigrette and a side of Creamed Spinach with their classic bechamel sauce. I had a glass of a Spanish Albariño that paired perfectly with the main course. Last but certainly not least was the Happy Birthday platter with cheesecake and fruit to which I added a double espresso and a snifter of Drambuie, for digestive purposes. As always, Capital Grille did not disappoint and truly made my day.

I came here for a corporate event. My main man Michael hooked me up with a mystery mocktail that's was exquisite. The food was alright. My steak (rib eye) was oily and burnt. Appetizers were good. I really liked the calamari. Other than that no complaints. 7/10 Steaks

I had lunch at Capital Grille downtown Austin on 4th Street with a colleague. I asked if it was the same Capital Grille that used to be in the Domain. Apparently, these are two separate and distinct restaurants. When you walk in it exudes sophistication and elegance. It reminded me a lot of the Art Hotel in Athens, Greece where there are paintings strategically placed throughout the hotel. It appears to be the type of restaurant you would frequent for a lunch business meeting or when dimly lit...a romantic dinner. The ambiance was simultaneously upscale and welcoming. Eric, our server, literally had one gold star and 5 gold stars with a diamond center pinned to his vest. After providing support for our table for lunch, I totally understand all of Eric's stars. He brought me more tea and lemon before I asked for it. He came to our table frequently to see if we needed anything. He also removed crumbs from our tablecloth. This used to be gold standard at most fine dining restaurants. When you receive superior service you notice. He also let us know that we could let the hostess know our names and he could be recorded serve us next time we are in the restaurant. Absolutely amazing! Eric provided superior service...full stop!!! We both ordered the lobster salad. All the ingredients were fresh and perfectly prepared. My mouth rejoiced with every bite. Large chunks of lobster were included in every single bite. The avocado was soft and flavorful. The salad also came with heirloom tomatoes...one of my favorite tomatoes. Net, net, an amazing meal! Our dining experience at Capital Grille was superior!

Decided on Capital Grille for my birthday dinner because I wanted an elevated steak restaurant to enjoy with my significant other. I almost canceled my reservation when I realized it was a chain restaurant and not a local one but man am I glad we kept the reservation. We dined in on a Tuesday evening. The Valet parking outside was very helpful and a plus (especially in heels). The restaurant had the perfect charm and elegant touches that I was looking for. I think because of the day of the week and the time, there were very few other patrons and it almost felt like we had the place to ourselves. It was very clean and they even placed a card and confetti at our table to celebrate the occasion. Our waiter was very helpful and made great menu suggestions. I ordered the French onion soup and my boyfriend had the Caesar salad. Both were the perfect start to our dinner. We shared a bone in ribeye and mashed potatoes. Both were so delicious and cooked just how we ordered. For dessert, they brought a delicious cheesecake with berries and an espresso chocolate cake (?). Both were also delicious, but definitely preferred the cheesecake more. We will be back for other special occasions and are so excited we found such a great gem!

Went to The Capital Grille in downtown Austin for a lunch date and had an amazing experience. The steak was perfectly cooked to a medium; tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. The fries were crispy and paired really well with the steak and sauce. Service was great, and the vibe was classy but comfortable. Definitely a solid spot if you're looking for a nice lunch or date spot downtown.

My husband and I went to The Capital Grille for lunch, and as always, the service was top-notch from start to finish--something I've come to expect every time I visit. I started with the French onion soup, which was the perfect portion, making every bite just right. For my entrée, I had the tenderloin sliders--they were good, but definitely on the mini side for a main dish. Thankfully, I wasn't too hungry, so they worked well for a lighter option. My husband had the clam chowder soup, which he really enjoyed, followed by the ribeye sandwich--and wow, it did not disappoint! It came with two massive chunks of juicy ribeye steak and was absolutely delicious. The only thing I'd love to see improved is the beer selection. While my husband enjoyed the one IPA they have on tap, having more options would be a nice touch. Overall, another fantastic experience at The Capital Grille--great food, impeccable service, and a refined yet comfortable atmosphere. We'll definitely be back!

I enjoyed the salmon and blue cheese stuffed olive dirty martini! Laurieann is an amazing server. The fact that she recalled our names simply made the night extra special!

Had a gorgeous business dinner at the Capital Grille! The ambiance is lovely, staff are friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious - we had a set menu of steak, mashed potatoes, vegetables, and a lovely chocolate souffle-cake-like dessert. I was totally stuffed and really enjoyed the experience. Interestingly I didn't realize this place was a chain, but I saw a location when walking the streets of Mexico City - so it certainly is! Nevertheless, it has the kind of outstanding flavors you'd get at any quite upscale steakhouse. It has immaculate bathrooms! Parking is a bit cumbersome, they have a valet but otherwise it's your standard downtown street parking. Overall really enjoyed the experience here even though it was for a specific event! Would gladly go back any time.

Came in for a friend's birthday and they were able to accommodate the 10 person celebration flawlessly. They were attentive from start to finish, and provided cake service as well. All dishes came out together and were all very impressive looking, and what is to be expected from a higher end steak house. The cooks were excellent on all of the proteins, and all sauces were very flavorful. They also provided a separate gluten-free menu for me, and were able to accommodate me further with my other dietary restrictions. Overall it was a good spot for a solid nice birthday dinner.

I've been to the Capital Grille twice now and they do not disappoint. The staff is always welcoming and the service is top tier. The food is absolutely delicious and portion sizes are great for the price. This is a great place for a date night or a birthday celebration!

My wife and I went to the Capital Grille to celebrate our 36th Wedding Anniversary. As we arrived, we were greeted by the staff wishing us a Happy Anniversary. Once we were seated, we saw that the table was covered with Happy Anniversary confetti and a greeting card was left for us for the occasion too. As for the food, the appetizers were exquisite. My steak melted in my mouth and my wife's sea bass was cooked to perfection. Our waiter Cody had great timing bringing the food, and was very attentive in the right way making sure our Anniversary was perfect. Even the manager and head cook came to our table wishing us a Happy Anniversary. In the end, a special Anniversary dessert capped off a perfect evening. Can't say enough about Capital Grille. Having had dine in Europe and all over the U.S., I must say Cody was the best waiter we ever had!

Coconut Cream Pie (forgot to take a pic)

So I went in for a French onion soup because they have the best one in austin.... Had a martini and Bria the bartender gave excellent service and overheard me talking to my friend about how my birthday was coming up. I just had major surgery and this is one of my first outings back. Bria surprised me with the coconut cream pie and it was FANTASTIC! thank you for making my return and birthday extra special staff and management (Michael) were great too!!

Lovely evening at The Capital Grille My dad recommended the veal tomahawk and it was delicious! Though not on the menu, the waitress offered a selection of mocktails and the one I had was great and reasonably priced. I loved the lobster mac & cheese though the creamed corn was a bit crunchy. I enjoyed how the staff packed up our to-go boxes, a very nice touch.

Is there music in the bar?

The bar space is not that big and there is no place for a stage. I would not call this live music venue by any stretch.

We had him choose our charcuterie board for us and we enjoyed all of it. I asked for a sweet red wine and his choice was top notch. The GM Jacob was also very kind. When we arrived, our table was ready right away this time and it was a great table. It wasn't packed this time. It was busy still, but overall the place and environment is great. Our waiter was amazing. He was very attentive knew what to recommend and was very nice and a fun person also. This time we started off with a golden beats and let me tell you they were delicious and the cheese that they use at the bottom is just phenomenal. This is definitely something you need to get. We also started off with the muscles and they were delicious. The broth that they were in was so good. You could literally drink it and you just wanted to submerge your bread in it. I also got an espresso martini to wake up because I've been so jetlagged and it was perfect. it was a good balance of the espresso and not sweet. I love that they don't use milk here unlike other places. My mother got the opera spritz and it was delicious. Very well balanced. It was not Avril heavy like some places tend to do. My mother got the Braised pork pasta, and it was divine. This was full of flavor a good amount of sauce not salty. We also got the chefs butcher pizza and it was amazing. I loved that you can tell they make all the ingredients there and the bread is just so good. Also had some kind of sauce on there with some piece of cheese that just balanced it so good. Definitely thanks to this experience. I will say I will keep going back. I'm thinking maybe when I first swim they were just having an off day but now trying the rest of these dishes. They did really good and definitely a place to enjoy when you're at the domain.

Rosé Gosé (note accents) is in an unassuming Airport Blvd location (right next to Jewboy Burgers, an Austin favorite). It is run by a couple from Belarus that came here right after Covid to open up a restaurant, with a sister in Minsk. Defying expectations, the menu is not Balkan at all. If anything, there is a strong Asian influence with poke bowls and a lot of seafood. But the menu also offers beef tartare on their raw bar menu, as well as a steak offering and grilled chicken. It's a diverse and adventurous menu, all the way from small plates to hefty mains and vegetable sides. For the dessert, try the pavlova, a meringue confection stuffed with coconut mousse and topped with lime sorbet and a grapefruit slice sidecar. Everything is superbly presented, and unquestionably fresh and healthy without veering into twigs and berries territory. The cocktail menu is also playful, with a lot of nontraditional glassware and slight spins on popular drinks; their version of a Paloma uses prosecco instead of a splash of soda. The servers are all dressed in rosé jumpsuits and very attentive. The space is amiable and elegant without being pretentious. The table spacing is a little close, so that conversations carry between guests. The table setting has some nice touches, like the little wooden bench that holds your fork and knife off the table. In European fashion, water can be asked for but it won't be served with ice. Plan on taking your time and enjoying course after course.
