Haven't been to a Capital Grill for years and this didn't disappoint. Walk in as I don't have a reservation and sat at the bar. They def were not busy at all. Restaurant was clean and taste my decorated. Service was wonderful and the food, outstanding. Ordered the lamb chops with sautéed spinach. While I thought the lamb chops were a lot....it took quick work to finish them off. Granted this was the only meal of the day sooooo not too bad. I love a good steakhouse and I forgot what a great staple. This is anywhere. You can come during the day and just sit at a bar and enjoy a glass of wine with your meal. Or you can also do the reservation way for when it's more busy. We came during a Saturday after an event and we wanted a nice dinner to end the night with. We started off with the oysters which were from Connecticut and let me tell you they were silky and not fishy and delicious. For our main dish we did share the bone in ribeye because it's big and we got it medium, which was delicious and not chewy and just soft like butter. We also accompanied it with the lobster mac & cheese, which was amazing. It had a perfect amount of lobster and the cheese that they use in there. It was so good. As drinks, they have a full bar and also a great list of wines I got as my usual a glass of rosé wine, which is my go to and yes, it was a French one since those are the ones that are the driest for me. read more

Generally, I have my lite birthday snack outside of the country but this year, I stayed in Austin and whenever I am in Austin on my birthday, I go only to the Capital Grille for my lite birthday snack. They know how to pamper me and make me feel at home. I arrived on time for my reservation and after being seated at my table, my server, Ron, introduced himself and asked if I would like something besides water and I said, "Yes, something with authority like an Old Fashioned". First, I ordered one of my favourites at the Capital Grille, the Lobster Bisque, made with North Atlantic lobster that is lightly sauteed and when served at the table, one can request that the server drizzle a little sherry across the bisque. My main course was the Sushi-Grade Sesame Seared Tuna, lightly seared to provide a flavorful crust, served with gingered rice, white soy, and sambal vinaigrette and a side of Creamed Spinach with their classic bechamel sauce. I had a glass of a Spanish Albariño that paired perfectly with the main course. Last but certainly not least was the Happy Birthday platter with cheesecake and fruit to which I added a double espresso and a snifter of Drambuie, for digestive purposes. I had lunch at Capital Grille downtown Austin on 4th Street with a colleague. I asked if it was the same Capital Grille that used to be in the Domain. Apparently, these are two separate and distinct restaurants. When you walk in it exudes sophistication and elegance. It reminded me a lot of the Art Hotel in Athens, Greece where there are paintings strategically placed throughout the hotel. It appears to be the type of restaurant you would frequent for a lunch business meeting or when dimly lit...a romantic dinner. The ambiance was simultaneously upscale and welcoming. Eric, our server, literally had one gold star and 5 gold stars with a diamond center pinned to his vest. After providing support for our table for lunch, I totally understand all of Eric's stars. He brought me more tea and lemon before I asked for it. He came to our table frequently to see if we needed anything. He also removed crumbs from our tablecloth. This used to be gold standard at most fine dining restaurants. When you receive superior service you notice. He also let us know that we could let the hostess know our names and he could be recorded serve us next time we are in the restaurant. Absolutely amazing! Eric provided superior service...full stop!!! We both ordered the lobster salad. All the ingredients were fresh and perfectly prepared. My mouth rejoiced with every bite. Decided on Capital Grille for my birthday dinner because I wanted an elevated steak restaurant to enjoy with my significant other. I almost canceled my reservation when I realized it was a chain restaurant and not a local one but man am I glad we kept the reservation. We dined in on a Tuesday evening. The Valet parking outside was very helpful and a plus (especially in heels). The restaurant had the perfect charm and elegant touches that I was looking for. I think because of the day of the week and the time, there were very few other patrons and it almost felt like we had the place to ourselves. It was very clean and they even placed a card and confetti at our table to celebrate the occasion. Our waiter was very helpful and made great menu suggestions. I ordered the French onion soup and my boyfriend had the Caesar salad. Both were the perfect start to our dinner. We shared a bone in ribeye and mashed potatoes. Both were so delicious and cooked just how we ordered. For dessert, they brought a delicious cheesecake with berries and an espresso chocolate cake (?). My husband and I went to The Capital Grille for lunch, and as always, the service was top-notch from start to finish--something I've come to expect every time I visit. I started with the French onion soup, which was the perfect portion, making every bite just right. For my entrée, I had the tenderloin sliders--they were good, but definitely on the mini side for a main dish. Thankfully, I wasn't too hungry, so they worked well for a lighter option. My husband had the clam chowder soup, which he really enjoyed, followed by the ribeye sandwich--and wow, it did not disappoint! While my husband enjoyed the one IPA they have on tap, having more options would be a nice touch. My steak melted in my mouth and my wife's sea bass was cooked to perfection. I want to begin by acknowledging that our reservation was on Thanksgiving, and I fully understand that restaurants are extremely busy on holidays. However, even with that in mind, the experience we had was far below what should be expected, especially at this price point. Our server was noticeably inattentive throughout the meal. The table next to us had ordered several expensive bottles of wine, and it was clear that he was prioritizing them over his other guests. Our tuna appetizer was completely flavorless aside from a strong fishiness--there was no seasoning or spice to give it any depth. We rarely saw our server, and eventually we felt we had no choice but to order all of our food at once. Drinks took 20-25 minutes to arrive. We repeatedly had to ask for water refills, and it took over 35 minutes before bread was brought to the table, despite being told it would come right away. Dirty plates sat in front of us for most of the evening because he never cleared them. Another server actually did more for our table than our assigned waiter. What made this even more disappointing was the complete lack of engagement from management. As a former restaurant manager myself, I know the importance of checking in with guests, especially on a busy holiday. The managers walked back and forth between the kitchen and bar all night but never stopped at a single table--not ours or anyone else's. We complained more than once, yet no manager ever came by to address the issue. For a bill totaling six to seven hundred dollars for five people, plus tip, this was an unacceptable experience. read more

The shrimp were beautifully firm and large. I had the Pan Seared Chilean Sea Bass with Miso butter. I chose to have the butter on the side. I did taste it with the butter but preferred it plain. It was perfectly crisp on the outside and such a clean and properly cooked inside. My friend had the Sliced Filet Mignon with Cipollini onions, mushrooms and Fig Essence. She said it was the best Filet Mignon she has ever had. My husband had the 10 ounce Filet Mignon and loved it. He also thought the price for it was very reasonable. The sides were also fantastic. I have to say the Brussel Sprouts were the best I have ever had. You order them family style and I was not the one who ordered them so I did not read the description. It had light orangish little chunks in it. I wasn't sure what it was so I couldn't wait to try them. I thought maybe a sweet potato or some kind of root vegetable. When I took a bite and the flavor started to present itself I realized it was pork. It was such a good match to the Brussel Sprouts! Oh!! We were given wet warm white towels after the Shrimp Cocktail. This is definitely a must for special occasions, dates and just because. An early hiccup with a big downtown event was quickly rectified by management, who found us an alternative valet location and off we went. We were downtown on business and several of my favorite Yelp friends highly recommended this place. For those of you who are old enough to remember, this used to be the old spaghetti warehouse back in the day. We started with couple alcoholic beverages and our very informative friendly waiter recommended the In Fashion bourbon cocktail which I have to admit was really good. Next came a complimentary basket of bread. If you are seated in the back room, you'll have an impressive wine cellar on one side of you and an open kitchen behind glass on the other. This place does have a very nice upscale vibe to it, but the prices aren't overly exorbitant. You get white linen service here where they scrape the crumbs off the table between courses. If you're interested in entertaining guests privately, they do have three private rooms to choose from. We started with the pan fried calamari which was absolutely fantastic and probably the most tender calamari I've ever had. It was the perfect balance of savoriness and heat. They don't serve the calamari with a side of marinara or anything, but it did not need any extra help, it was perfect the way it was. Since it was lunchtime, we both opted for their wagyu cheeseburger cooked the way you like it. It didn't come with any condiments so you'll have to ask for the ketchup, mayo, and mustard. The appetizer, the burger and fries were so filling that we had to get dessert to go. We enjoyed the food, ambience, and service so much that lunch was just the dress rehearsal for dinner someday. I had an amazing experience at this spot! The atmosphere was perfect with jazz music that really set the mood. I tried the Veal Chop paired with some mouth watering mushrooms that sadly ended with the crème brûlée, and it was divine! I also had a drink that paired perfectly with dessert. I been hesitant on writing this review. I made reservations for two a month in advance for my birthday trip to Austin Texas at 7pm. We arrive 5 minutes early. I take a look around the whole restaurant. Very nice place, too bad I sat in the far back room away from everything else. I figured it was their party room but it slowly started to feel like something else. As I walked to the bathroom I wondered why the colored people were all sat in the room I was in. As each party in that room left, another diverse couple would sit down without fail. Please spread us out Capital grill, you are making it segregated in there. Based on a few other reviews I don't think this should be the case. We waited 30 minutes to order food for the food to come out an hour later. It gave me too much time to look around. I ordered the filet mignon and I will objectively say that it was a pretty clean cut. It was a little over cooked for medium rare but not so that I would send it back and wait another hour. After finishing my dessert, I hear a table behind me had a birthday as well. They bring them a Cheesecake with some chocolate cake on the house. The same dessert I had just purchased and paid for, for free. I wasn't the one paying for the dessert my girlfriend was, so it didn't come out of my pocket, but I did not expect to find out they pick favorites. read more

What a huge disappointment. Business dinner in one of the private rooms. Important client, top executives, high ticket wines and food. Polite enough staff, delayed order being taken, fairly quick salads but then... two hour delay until mains came out. No updates, no apologies, nothing until finally it was almost too late for dinner. I asked the server, who apologized and said dinner was coming right out. 20 minutes later I had to ask the manager as the food was still not out. His only excuse was that they had 3 other large parties at the same time. Not sure that made sense as the rest of the restaurant was 2/3rds empty so if true then maybe you shouldn't be taking group reservations. For me, getting my dinner served at 9pm (we had 6pm reservation) was just to late to eat. Sad to say that this was a deal breaker. I won't be back and certainly won't have any events there. The night before had another similar dinner at JPrime (just a few blocks away) and it was the complete opposite. Similar size party, they were much fuller, but they killed it! Sorry Capital Grill, poor performance, but worst of all extremity poor guest service. Delays happen, and a little courtesy and notification goes a long way to make it better. read more

If I could give MORE than 5 stars, I would! This restaurant is the best experience I have had at a restaurant in all my years going to one! It had great "ambiance" (not too loud..can actually talk to your friends at table), great service (by waiter and Manager), and most of all WONDERFUL food! My husband and I went this on a Friday night, and we were running a little late. We took an Uber to get there and thank God for the elevator, as I was in a walking boot and could not do the stairs. The elevator is to the right..and don't get confused, like we almost did..there is a stairway down to a jazz club. Keep going to left and elevator is there. There is no sign in elevator, for which floor (2nd), but knew NOT top floor, at that had sign to to go "RA"-the Sushi place. When we got to hostess desk, we told them of our reservation, and they did not give or table away, and again, thank GOD, we did not have to wait (like most places, still with a reservation). They sat us at a great 4 person table just inside. Now, we got lucky for enjoying the honor, of having the best waiter! I know, you may think I am exaggerating! but, this waiter, right off the bat, we smiling and pleasant (again, nowadays, just that is hard to come by). He asked if we would like drinks. I usually like an "Old Fashioned". He immediately broke out his tablet to show us all the drinks (with great pictures) and say they have a "variation" of it call the "In Fashion" ( Bourbon, Grant Marnier, Black Walnut bitters, orange slice on the ice and cherry). I loved it! Not too sweet, like some bartenders do. Think the Grand Marnier made that drink! Now, my husband tried something he never had, and waiter recommended it, as most popular drink, the "Expresso Martini" ( Vodka, Expresso Liqueur, and expresso shot). He said it was great..have his coffee and cocktail in one drink! Now, for the MAIN event, the FOOD! I had reservations for my birthday at end of December, but could not make it because of ankle broken....this was worth the 2 month wait! I was in the mood for "surf and turf" and had viewed the menu online and thought I knew what I wanted, but our waiter told us of many other things. He told us Cold seafood tower for 2. Oh, yes! TWO lobster tails and 2 claws (had head for presentation, but did not touch that), 4 shrimp X 2 and 4 oysters X 2 for us to share. Cocktail sauce, horseradish, and this GREAT sauce that we used for the oysters (don't remember what it was called but similar to Ponzu sauce with more vinegar and shallots). I used to not like oysters (unless Rockefeller kind), I ate my 3 with this sauce, and they slipped right down (did not even need fork to dislodge it or anything). Only thing missing was some drawn butter for the lobster. But, then RON came out with warm towels infused with lemon and he poured in front of us, hot water over them! WHO does this? So great to get anything off our hands before next round! Now, again, NOT on menu, he described the Oscar sauce could be on top of any choice of steak....GET IT!!! It is lump crab meat put on top of steak in this Hollandaise type sauce with asparagus under the steak. I did it with the Filet Mignon. My husband, keep with "coffee" theme, got the Kona-crusted dry aged NY strip steak with shallot butter. Now, both of us usually like our steak more towards almost "well", but never order that at a nice steak place, we both go for "Medium". But, I always worry, as some cooks like to go more "rare", and for me, not my preference. BOTH came out perfect! Ron explained how the side dishes work, and again, not on menu, they can make smaller for two people, EXCEPT the Lobster Mac and Cheese, as that is already pre-set to cook in that hot iron skillet. But, we went with that anyways, and small order of mashed potatoes. Sides were just ok, my least favorite of everything, but still good. And, Ron, we always checking on us, and got us second round of drinks while we were enjoying our lovely main dishes. Each piece of steak was like a "food gasam"!!! It was like a chocolate Lindt ball, and the steak just MELTED in our mouth! Yes, it was that good! Then the Manager, Sergio came by and we talked with him for a minute. Sergio, was also very pleasant, and we told him of the great service Ron has given us! He was very happy, and said both had been at that location for a long time. Plenty of room for a group of 12 and I loved that they had the TV displayed with a fire place image. Perfectly set the tone for our holiday luncheon. Staff was very attentive. Such delicious steak! I really enjoyed both the tenderloin and the NY strip. They weren't too salty and perfectly seasoned/cooked. So tender and melted in your mouth. Our favorite side dishes were the truffle fries and bacon Brussel sprouts. Both were amazing. Brussel sprouts were crispy, sweet and savory. Beautiful ambiance, perfect date night spot. Excellent server and staff Several years ago, I had a wonderful birthday dinner in the dining room. It was a great experience and I had the Wagy burger several years ago and it was a great experience, but four of us went last night for the burger and wine and wine was delicious but our burgers we decided were the least favorite of any we had in the city they were dry had no flavor and very little cheese , quite a disappointment. We went here for the first time to experience the Generous Pour (wine tasting event) - and weren't disappointed. Each of the wine selections were incredible. I can't remember the region or any other wine details but they paired perfectly with our meal. As someone who is just starting to like wine - I was wanting more. As for our meal, we both ordered the spinach salad (spinach and field greens, goat cheese, fresh berries, toasted almonds, citrus-chili vinaigrette) which was light, fresh and simply delicious. I ordered the Seared Tenderloin with Butter Poached Lobster Tails and my wife ordered the sliced Filet Mignon with Cipollini Onions, Wild Mushrooms and Fig Essence. Since it was our anniversary, our waiter gave us some dessert on the house - the Flourless Chocolate Espresso Cake and something else to try. While the Generous Pour is now done - we highly recommend for 2023! read more
