Ice cream is nice but staff can be hilariously condescending. Been there twice and Resident Sassy Server always seems to feel the need to make a sassy remark or have a Dramatic Eyeroll moment when you ask basic questions about their products. (This second time it wasn't just Resident Sassy Server giving me sass - it was also his dead-eyed peer who looked like she'd overdosed on Godard films and opiates and just couldn't handle the idea of basic human interaction.) It's both weird and hilariously lacking in self-awareness. It's also uncalled for and probably not in the interests of a small business to address their customers like that. Love this alternative ice cream. It is not "healthier" in terms of calories or fat (at least according to the woman I spoke to), but it is vegan for those with humane and diary concerns. I asked for the best and was given the blueberry crumble. My partner got the oreo crumble and mine was certainly far and away better. After dinner, my friends had recommended ice cream somewhere -I admit I was a little skeptical at first when I heard that it was coconut based ice cream, thinking that it would not live up to regular ice cream. I was wrong. It was delicious! I can't remember the name of my flavor, but it was basically a 7 layer cookie bar in ice cream form. They did not skimp on ingredients or quality of the ice cream. I was satisfied with my choice! The line wasn't too long, probably because we were there later at night. Customer service was delightful. I always wanted to try FoMu when I first saw this place on yelp but in a different location that was too far for me. When I saw they were opening in the South End, I couldn't wait to try this place. I can finally eat some healthy ice cream without feeling so guilty about what is being put in my body. I love the fact that their ice cream is non dairy so people who are lactose can also enjoy ice cream without taking a pill. I'm a huge fan of avocado and when I saw that, I had to give it a try and too my surprise it was actually good. I came here again with my friends and tried others flavors and some were better than others but nevertheless this proved that vegan ice cream can taste awesome. A bit pricey but I appreciate what they are trying to do. All the ice creams are creamy and have a coconut flavor to them. If you don't like coconut this isn't the place for you. If you love coconut you'll probably like almost all the flavors! I thought the salted caramel was best out of the 4 or so I've tried. This cozy little vegan ice cream shop was quite a surprise find in my first night in Boston. After having dinner, my wife and I looked for a good dessert place that was close by and we found FoMu. I was a little skeptical about vegan ice cream thinking it probably would not taste very good but I was pleasantly surprised how good the ice cream was. I tried the vanilla and another scoop,which I do not remember the name of,and they were delicious. There is only a hint of coconut taste otherwise it tastes just like ice cream. FoMu is exactly what she would expect from a "millennial" ice cream shop. This place has vegan ice cream and it's all sustainable; The interior decoration is white tile with succulents and wood accents. The server recommended the peanut butter/chocolate ice cream and also any of their standard flavors. The standard flavors include vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, and coffee. They have sizes mini which started at five dollars and was maybe a quarter cup to a half a cup of ice cream. I got mini coffee, and it was delicious! Super creamy, strong flavor; it was my first time getting nondairy ice cream and I was pleasantly surprised. I don't know if they use coconut milk in all of their flavors but the coffee one was made with coconut milk so it was very very yummy. Definitely would come here again with people who are lactose intolerant or vegan or have any food sensitivities, because all their desserts are plant-based. On a recent visit to Boston, I was craving ice cream... the non-dairy gods must've heard my pleas as I found FoMu 2 blocks from where we were staying! I tasted the chocolate pudding, fresh mint chip, and salty caramel flavors. All were delicious, and if our vacation in Boston was longer I would've bought all 3 flavors, but I chose the salty caramel. We have a great selection of non-dairy flavors in my favorite LA ice cream shops, but FoMu's flavors and creamy texture went above and beyond. Too bad I can't find them in LA!! read more

a 3.5 i'm not going to lie and pretend this tastes exactly like ice-cream, because it definitely tastes like coconut milk. because of this, i think the flavors clash a little, particularly with the mint and even just "normal" ones like oreo or salted caramel. Fomu ice creams are clearly vegan. The consistency is "creamy for vegan," it is heavier and spongier than dairy ice cream...and there is an unmistakeable coconut taste in all the (coconut-based option) flavors, spanning the spectrum from REALLY strong to definitely there. So, if you, like me, don't like coconut THAT much, then don't get anything larger than the mini-size. The flavors are really innovative though. The one flavor I liked (because the coconut flavor was masked quite well) was cherry amaretto, which was available 1-2 years back at the Allston location. Recent "chef collaboration" series is pretty cool too: I thought the parsnip caramel & cherry one was actually quite yummy, with dices of chewy, sweetened parsnip and not too many cherries. The pumpkin & sesame is another flavor that looks cool, but the pumpkin flavor was very muted (mostly tasted like orange-colored-coconut and black sesame ice cream). I recently tried FoMu for the first time, and had all of the following: F'Oreo, salty caramel, chocolate chip cookie dough, blueberry crisp, peach bourbon cobbler, and pistachio lemon shortbread. The last flavor was my favorite, but the others were close behind. I loved the big chunks of cookie even in my little cup.
