My little PurrBall is not the only baby that was handled at Fond Memories. Each time I have had dealings, they have been very caring. After an emotional morning, and lots of tears with the vet and her tech, I took my baby's remains for cremation. They were very kind and told me that it may be a couple of days before I could come pick up her cremains, but 24 hours later I received an email to come pick her up. I chose to have her cremains kept in a beautiful blue bag rather than an urn. I chose not to get a paw print or hair clipping, though both were offered. She will be placed in my pet cemetery in my backyard. The professionalism and kindness of the employees by Fond Memories staff was so helpful in a difficult time. read more

This business made a difficult time in life, much more difficult with how they treated remains of my best friend, Birdie a 13 year old golden doodle. We sent our sweet Birdie to Fond Memories for cremation. We opted for the top level service, which would include a paw print and hair clippings as well as the ashes and urn. When we were asked to come pick up the remains, we were shocked by the condition of the clippings. They had put shavings into a Ziploc bag, soaking wet and wreaking of fire and smoke. Imagine getting your brain around that while knowing you're holding the last clippings of your best friend. When I called to inquire about it, the person who answered the phone, explained that their facility was prone to being damp, and that the clippings would be fine sealed. I reminded her that moisture locked in tends to mold, especially when it is hair or fabric. She argued for a minute further then I asked her to ask her supervisor. The supervisor came back and said yes I was in fact correct and to leave the clippings open and let them dry out so they do not mold. For me this was just heartbreaking because it felt so disrespectful of my girl. I won't have another chance to get those clippings and I just wish they had treated her remains better and her memory as well. Why not get the clippings before the fire and water part? Now I have to think about how this process is actually done rather than just live in the ignorance that I had before. read more

I drove from San Antonio this morning to pick up my mom's cat, Patton. I made sure Austin Pet Memorial took great care of him (and my mother). I used to live in Alabama, and the crematoriums there always included your pet's clay paw print and fur clipping ... I love that idea. But when searching the local San Antonio area...no one was doing that. I was shocked! So when my mother had to put her precious Patton to sleep, I searched for a crematorium that would go the extra mile. Three years ago at age 11 my sweet kitty Inda was diagnosed with small-cell lymphoma. I spent over 4K to save her life and thousands since for follow up blood tests, meds and prescription food and we kicked cancer's butt! Sadly in the past month she started to not feel so great. A seizure a few weeks ago took us to the vet who tried some things based on blood work. Then a week and a half later her blood work was completely different and he suggested imaging if I wanted to figure out how to keep her comfortable as I was not going to put her through another major surgery. I took her on Monday back to the surgeon from three years ago and he diagnosed her with pancreatitis among other things...she was labeled "critical" and put on IV and eventually a feeding tube. She was a sick little girl and clearly hurting. By early Wednesday morning, she took her last breath in my bed while I was trying to feed her with the tube. It was very traumatic to experience, but I knew by morning I would just take her back to the hospital to go to work and come back to them telling me it was time, if she hadn't already passed without me there. I had already found APMC in a search when I thought she was going to leave me 2 weeks ago. I had two weeks to say goodbye. Several days after the seizure her personality came back despite how sick she was. I got to tell her how wonderful she was and how I never knew a cat that I had gotten to keep my dog company would touch my heart so deeply. She was my soul cat for sure. Funny, silly, bratty, cuddly, loving and just plain amazing. I took her to APMC on Wednesday. Olivia greeted me and put Inda in a basket with a soft blanket. I sat in a nice memorial room and talked to her while I looked at photos and videos of her. Olivia came in to check on me and eventually we needed to take care of the costs. I received a discount for bringing her there myself and it was quite a bit less than when I had done it through my vet with my dogs. I picked her up today and was so glad to see Olivia again. Inda came back to me in a beautiful little wooden box with her nameplate "Princess Inda", a paw print impression, clippings of her hair, a lovely card and brochures on pet loss. I cannot imagine a better experience. My two dogs were cremated through my vet, but something about taking her there myself and getting her back two days later knowing exactly where she would be kept and even seeing where she was to be cremated was so reassuring. I hope I won't have to return for many years (right now I am without pets for the first time in almost 23 years), but I would go back there for sure and recommend it to anyone who needs these services. A couple of years ago, this was a 5-star business. Now, they are unresponsive and, apparently, uncaring. Sad to see it go downhill.

I am still fuming about my experience with this business, especially based on the type of service they offer! A week after my dog was euthanized by a mobile vet (who drop her off at this facility) I still had not heard anything from anyone at APMC. I had no idea where Posie was and because of her sudden terminal illness I was desperate to have her ashes back with me so I could mourn her death. This little dog was one of the most important "people" in my life and was like my own child. Two weeks after losing her, I am still brought to uncontrollable tears should anyone ask about her. I finally tracked these people down and spoke to some girl on the phone who told me I could have Posie's ashes delivered to the vet of my choice instead of driving to Buda (I live near Westlake). First thing in the morning I notified the vet's office someone from APMC would be dropping off my dog's ashes. Two hours later, the same vet called me and said APMC "had no record of a delivery" and recommended I "call the crematorium where my pet was". And so I did. I got the manager on the phone and released my wrath upon him for what seemed like an eternity. But for every complaint he had an excuse (the girl I spoke to was new, blah, blah, blah...). I told him that in his particular line of business someone "new" shouldn't be taking calls, and subsequently giving wrong information. He said he "would talk to her". Oh, thanks. I feel so much better about my pet being euthanized in front of me then cremated at Lord only knows where, and would be returned to me...um...I don't know when -or- where... Nice work, guys. The final insult to injury was when I was told they "didn't call clients because they didn't want to upset them." I was absolutely stunned by this comment, so I asked him what he thought they were doing to me now?!? By the time I hung up the phone, I was in full blown tears, at work, and revisited the pain I felt when I watched my Posie stop breathing. I did finally get her ashes, delivered In a bag with their logo on the side, my dogs ashes inside along numerous pieces of advertisements disguised as words of compassionate consolation. If I had the capacity to climb through the phone from my end to his, I shudder to say what the outcome would have been for this man. Never, never, never again. read more

I HIGHLY recommend this service. We had to put our beloved dog down a few weeks ago due to old age, and while it was incredibly difficult, the staff at Austin Pet Memorial Center made it easier. They treated his body with such care and consideration. We scheduled to have his body picked up after his vet appointment (we knew we would be putting him to sleep). A Pet Memorial staff member was waiting quietly and unobtrusively outside our vet hospital, and when it was done she came in and placed his body in a basket with blankets and a pillow. Not an easy feat, considering he was over 70 pounds. Nevertheless, she got him in the basket and we could already tell that his body was being honored. The basket and blankets were unexpected and appreciated - we had been expecting a gurney. We followed the van back to the Memorial Center, and were able to say our last goodbyes in a special room which they have prepared for the families of the pets. We were given as much time as we needed. The room was small but beautiful, and our boy Connor was placed up on a table (in his basket) with a flower. It was a calm, soothing place to say our last goodbyes. Connor was cremated shortly thereafter. Along with his ashes and urn, we were also given a clay paw print, hair clippings, and a number of other special items to remember him. Everyone who worked there was extremely caring and thoughtful, and I know that they treated Connor's body with utmost respect. We also ordered a memory box for him, with an engraving on top. It came out beautifully. We wanted to thank you for showing so much compassion to us and to Connor's body and memory. It meant everything. read more

Hands down the most unprofessional and unethical place I've ever encountered. I received my dear ones ashes back, and uh- where are they? She was 10 lbs and I received back maybe 1/16th of a cup at best? I've had 2 previous animals pass in my life, one was 3.5 lbs and the other 15, both were done at a private cremation facility, and their ashes are at least 3-5x more. I took pictures of them to compare and I contacted the vet who made it clear they have nothing to do with this (but they obviously contract them) and I also contacted "fond" memories. I kept requesting they communicate via email as for 1: I don't really want to talk about the details outloud, it's too painful, and 2: I have to work and it's best this way. Nope, all they would do is write- call this number. I spoke to them and they had no defense really, just, oh- the amount is based on bone density. Yeah right, that's cool but not possible. I contacted 4 other private facilities from around Austin to Dallas and they all confirmed something's not right as based on standard calculations I should have little over a 1/2 cup. I kept emailing "fond", requesting email only, and of course the response- call this number. If they can't follow simple instructions and respect my request to email, how can these people respect the sanctity of my loved ones remains? Fact is they don't. I find their lack of communication is unacceptable and I would not believe 1 word they say. 4 other private facilities have told me it's not possible, and based on the bad reviews they hv received, they seem extremely uncaring or empathetic, which is disturbing considering the business they are in. The bad reviews speak very loudly. All I wanted was for them to respond back via email, they chose to be cowards. They chose not to write Me back because they are scared to be held legally liable, just that simple. Whenever you have a business issue gone wrong, it's best never to correspond in writing, which is exactly why they refused and wrote- call this number. So they can say whatever they like and there's no way to prove it via phone. All I wanted was honestly from that place, or at least basic respect and/or empathy, but instead they just confirmed every suspicion I had. read more

This is the kind of business you never think about until you need it. But then when you do need it, you're glad that it's there. We had to say goodbye to our sweet dog Tino last week. We called Compassionate Pet Euthanasia (see related review) to have him put to sleep at home, and she contacted Austin Pet Memorial Center to handle the body. Linda and Chuck were extremely respectful, waiting outside until the process was done, and then coming in. They gently wrapped him in a blanket and placed him in a basket. They were very sympathetic and compassionate at what was a gut-wrenching moment, and conducted themselves with the utmost professionalism. Today, I went down to Buda to collect the ashes, which were placed in a beautiful box. We also received a clay paw print and fur clipping. Linda remembered who I was when I came in and had my kit all ready to go. Losing Tino was one of the hardest and most painful things I'd ever experienced. I was grateful to have the assistance of such competent and compassionate professionals as Chuck and Linda. I know we'll have to do this again sooner than we like with our other dog, and knowing what to do and that Austin Pet Memorial Center is there gives me great peace of mind. read more

I can finally type this now. Been crying and walking around like a zombie. We had to say goodbye to our 17 year old dog Yoshi. He's a family member and it was one of the toughest things I ever had to do. I contacted Austin Pet Memorial and they understood what I was feeling and knew exactly what I needed. They came over to take my Yoshi away in a basket with his favorite blanket. They gave me all the time I needed to say goodbye and within 48 hours he was privately cremated and returned to us. We just brought home our baby kitty of 18 years yesterday, and while our grief is almost unbearable, the process of making his final plans was made as bearable as possible by Austin Pet Memorial Center. I just want to share my experience as soon as possible in case anyone is seeking this information now. We had to euthanize our kitty unexpectedly on Monday morning, so I was scrambling to find a pet cremation service that would allow me to be with him every step of the way. I called APMC that morning, and they said I could bring my kitty in at any time during their business hours that day. They were also able to schedule an actual memorial service and cremation for the following morning at 11am. Olivia was kind, gentle and patient, and she made every attempt to accommodate every request we had. She made it as easy as possible for us to be comfortable with how our kitty would be treated. After he had passed, we brought him in wrapped in our blanket. They had a large walk-in cooler to hold him until the next day. Olivia gave us a tour of the entire facility and clearly explained exactly how they operate and what to expect. We greatly appreciated the transparency and the rigor of how they take care of people's pets. Our kitty had a metal tag that was attached to him from the moment he arrived to verify his identity and to track where he was in the process. The next day, we arrived at 11am and Olivia brought our kitty into the private viewing room wrapped in a blanket and cradled in a wicker basket. I didn't think I would need more than 5 minutes to say my final good-byes, but I ended up taking up the entire hour provided to me. I can't tell you how much that time meant to me. Then, Olivia came in to get our kitty and allowed us to follow her to the cremation chamber to inspect that it was clear and our kitty would be the only pet cremated in the chamber. We watched her place him in the chamber and close the door. Then, she allowed me to push the button to start the cremation. We were allowed to stay there the entire time until it was done, but at that point, we were satisfied and confident that they would take care of our kitty's ashes properly. We were really impressed with how they handled final delivery of our kitty also. They provided us with fur clippings of our kitty from beside his eyes, ears, back and heart. There's a poem that accompanies it that explains why. They also provided us with a clay paw print, and they did an exceptional job with it. We never mentioned that our kitty is a polydactyl with 6 toes instead of 5 on each foot. Olivia mentioned how shocked they were to see it and made sure to capture his 6th toe in the print as well. I really appreciated this attention to detail. They also gave us some wildflower seeds to plant on his behalf, a pamphlet on grief and a condolence card. Even though they provide a nice wooden box to hold his ashes, we had upgraded him to an urn to sit next to his older brother's urn. They wrapped the metal urn in a piece of cloth to keep it safe. All of this was placed in a white box tagged with his information and then in a bag to carry everything, again tagged with his information to keep ensure there weren't any mix-ups. His urn contained the original metal tag that they used to identify him when he originally arrived. Some other miscellaneous things that I think are helpful to know: 1. They were easy to find along I-35 about 5 minutes South of Slaughter Lane. I would have driven to another city to get this type of service for my kitty, so having it here in Austin was a huge relief. 2. They were going to wash the blanket that I had brought my kitty in before returning it to me, but I ended up getting it before they got a chance. I appreciated the little caring details that they paid attention to though. 3. I wanted to be with my kitty through the entire process, because he's been with me since the day he was weaned. However, APMC can also take care of everything from picking up your pet to bringing them back to you if you want. They truly attempt to provide a service that makes the comfort of your pet and your family the priority. 4. While there are extra charges for certain things like our upgraded urn, they never once tried to upsell us on anything. They also provided us a discount for bringing our kitty in instead of having them pick him up. Times like this are already so awful and never once did they make it awkward or unpleasant. 5. My husband didn't understand why I was going through all the fuss about the cremation service, but he went along with me the entire way anyway. At the end of it, he was glad that we did it and said it was cathartic for him. 6. APMC is available 24 hours a day to help you. We almost had to call them the evening before. For anyone who might have questions about my experience, I'm more than happy to answer messages. read more

As a former non-pet owner (my wife had cats before we met), I must say that I am highly impressed with the service that Chuck and his staff offer. Chuck takes care of your pet in a very respectable manner and you will feel relieved during the process. You will leave knowing that your animal was the only one cremated and the remains are solely your pet's. You can even watch the video as it happens if you choose. Your local vet will tell you they offer individual cremation but fail to mention that your pet will quite possibly remain in a freezer with a bunch of other dead pets, depending on the the day of the week. Once the contracted cremation service takes your pet (along with the others) and fires up the oven they more than likely will cremate your pet with 3 others in a "separate" section of the oven, thus claiming individual cremation. No vet will mention APMC because they all get kickbacks from contracted cremation services. When my wife and I asked about a service like APMC from the vet clinic they claimed to not know of any. APMC is the way to go if you are 100% serious about ensuring the remains are your pet. There is no doubt during the process and Chuck will guide you every step of the way. I used this service last year when my sweet pug, Lula, passed away. When I first called in the evening, the answering service took my information and set up a pick up time for the following day. I wasn't impressed with the operators phones skills. She was cold and didn't even give me a ball park time as to when they would pick up my dogs body the next morning. I called back and asked to speak with someone else. I left a message and was promptly called back within the hour by I'm guessing the manager. She was much more sympathetic and understanding. I felt like she genuinely cared about what I was going through and answered all questions. The following morning (I think her name was Julie) arrived to pick up Lula. She was very considerate and treated the occasion as it deserved to be treated: with compassion and understanding. I received a call the following day that her ashes were ready. When I picked her up she came home with hair clippings and her paw prints. I wasn't "happy" with the service, because it wasn't a happy event, but I was satisfied with the service. Boy these are the hardest reviews to write. One for the lovely vet who came to our house to help us through the process of releasing our kitty Luna's spirit, now APMC. Dr. Schaubert was who came out to our house. She normally doesn't come to Bastrop but she came for us. Afterwards she came back in with a large basket with a soft blanket. We put Luna in the basket and she took her away and took her to APMC. The following Saturday we were able to pick her up. This has been a terrible emotional drain for me and everyone has been so wonderful. When we got there, it was very quiet, and they had shelves of lovely memorial things you can purchase. Different types of urns and the like. We had bought our own bronze urn so we were not going to get one of theirs. The woman came out with a green back, and sat it on the table. Inside the bag was a white box about the size of a shoe box. She opened it and inside was green tissue paper and she opened it and brought out some literature on grieving and pet loss. They also take clippings from four parts of the body (it's explained in the papers) and of course Luna's remains, inside a beautiful velvet bag. They also make a beautiful clay heart with her paw prints and name on. She explained that because Luna had such tiny feet, they did both which is exactly what I did with my "home kit" which didn't turn out near as nice. Of course I burst into tears and the woman was so sweet. I wish I had gotten her name but I was too emotional to think straight. She let me get my composure back together then put everything back in the box and we carried Luna home to be with us forever. Between Dr. Schaubert who came to the house, and APMC, they made what was one of the hardest and saddest things we have ever had to do, as good as it could be. read more

Where do I start. I cannot begin to express my gratitude towards Austin Pet Memorial Center. From the moment I called this office at 2am in tears from the sudden loss of my best friend, they have been the sweetest, most caring people I could have asked for. I lost my Bulldog suddenly and unexpectedly at 12:30am, I received a phone call that shattered my heart and I could not accept. I didn't know what to do next. I was originally looking for a place to do a necropsy (autopsy for animals) because I believe the Vet handling my Bulldog was not showing him the attention he needed after surgery. I looked up anywhere that could possibly help. After searching I found Austin Memorial Pet Center. They do not do necropsys but after speaking with them I KNEW I did not want him in anyone else's hands but them. The care and attention they showed my best friend was phenomenal from start to when I picked up my package today. When they brought him in they even let me bring in my own ink pad and we did a nose print on my baby together where I got to see him one last time. I believe it wasn't my dogs time but everyone here made it a lot easier to accept his passing and keep him close to my heart. The fur clippings are my favorite thing I received because I can look at them and almost feel him with me. Thank you so much for your kindness and help. When we had our dog euthanized at home (see below), Austin Pet Memorial was a separate service arranged by the vet. They were calming and very respectful when they arrived (right on time), to pick him up. A couple of days later when we arrived to retrieve the cremains, Julie -- the very same person who picked him up -- was there to explain things and provide warm, sincere wishes. She offered to sit and talk with us about our pet, today or any day in the future. Along with the cremains they included a clay paw imprint, hair clippings, a memorial seed packet, and brochures on grief. Such sweet, unexpected additions. Lastly, on a side note, I have to send additional heartfelt thanks to Dr. Maggie MacDonald who performed the actual euthanization. I can't say enough great things about these people. They went well beyond any expectations I had in having my pet cremated and memorialized. I immediately reached them on a weekend and they accommodated my needs that Monday morning. A couple of the other businesses I called never even returned my phone call. The family that owns and operates APMC have provided a service that is very personal, inclusive, comprehensive with the utmost respect AND they were the most reasonably priced! They treat your pet as a family member and even the most basic program includes a half dozen items to help remember, memorialize and honor your pet. And their cremation is an "exclusive" one with only your pet in the cremation unit, unlike most others that do multiple cremations in one session. Though I met the folks at Austin Pet Memorial under sad circumstances, I couldn't have been happier with the services and professionalism they provided. I never expected the experience I had with this business. I called expecting a cold, emotionless price quote and was received with love and concern. I walked in and was immediately and warmly greeted by one of the most friendly and loving cats I've ever met ("Sweety"). Then came the staff and I was floored by how caring and accommodating they were. I was also impressed with all of the options they had available for urns (even though you get a free one they had loads of other options to purchase) as well as the many different memorials they offered. They have a pick-up service with a blanket and a basket (not a trash bag) and treated our pet like she was a family member (because that's what she is.) They were very friendly, compassionate, empathetic and accommodating. I cannot stress enough how fantastic and helpful Austin pet Memorial Center was for our family. 6 STARS!!! read more

We hadn't anticipated using a private pet cremation service when it came time to say goodbye to our dog of 14 years. But with our daughter old enough to understand what was going on, we realized we needed something to help with closure, so she could say goodbye. Austin Pet Memorial Center was so kind, and the things they provided (wildflower seed mix for spreading the ashes, cast paw print, and truly caring service) ended up giving us grownups an unexpected sense of closure as well. I could not recommend this service any more. They were wonderful and so understanding of the situation. My neighbors dog passed away on Sunday, and I found out last night that he had not gotten her taken care of, as he was too distraught to deal with it. I contacted Austin pet memorial center this morning at 11 AM, and they arrived at my neighbors home at 1 PM. Julie was very respectful in removing her, and handled her with care and dignity. When my sweet girl, Maggie, finally succumbed to her illness, I was devastated. While we loved our vet, I wasn't too keen on having Maggie cremated a week later with other dogs. I wanted to her to have the dignity she deserved, and so I looked for some place that could do something private, and could also provide keepsakes like a paw print or the like. Austin Pet Memorial is the only place around that would do that, so I took a chance. When I called them to ask questions and make arrangements, Linda was the one who helped me through it. She was soo kind, gentle and sincere. They called our vet and let them know they'd be coming, and arrived on time. They had Maggie ready to come home about 24 hours from when they picked her up. They walked me through everything they had prepared when I got there, and I could see that were moved just talking to me about the significance of the grief pamphlet, fur clippings, paw print, and Maggie's ashes. They do this everyday, and I was surprised they were as feeling as they were! They even gave me some special soil to mix her ashes in for when we get ready to plant something in the backyard in remembrance of Maggie. These are wonderful, caring people who love what they do for pets and people. I highly recommend them to anyone who wants to honor their pet family member. read more

Losing a pet is difficult but is just a little easier when you encounter people who understand. Austin Pet Memorial understands that you've just lost a family member. Last week we lost our beloved cat Wolf. The staff who cremated him walked us through the process and treated my husband and I with compassion. In addition to the services they offer they also have a beautiful little cat who lives in the office. He's a true therapy cat.
