A Cajun soundtrack adds a nice vibe to this comfortable spot in downtown Fulton.
    Michael S.

This far north of Louisiana Fontenot's does a real good creole/cajun imitation. My Thursday special of jambalaya was thick with lightly spicy sausage, lots of vegetables, and a couple of shrimp. Rice was a bit dry and bland but a splash of hot sauce remedied that. Service was outstanding. And the Cajun zydeco soundtrack gave a nice vibe to this comfortable brick and wood eatery.

Best friend catfish, hush puppies & beignets west of the Mississippi! What a find in a little farm town!

    Catfish po boy

We're headed to the Quincy IL to Dre our new granddaughter and we're looking for dinner and we stopped here. He got the catfish po boy and I got a bowl of gumbo. He said it was the best fish sandwich he's ever had. The fish was cooked great and the sandwich was dressed but not overdressed. And the bread was crispy but soft on the inside. The gumbo was spicy and I loved it. There was a lot of shrimp and crawfish in it as well.

    Red beans and rice

The red beans and rice was excellent. I also had two side fillets of catfish. The batter was thin and crispy, not too salty and nicely seasoned with 'homemade' tartar sauce.

Very clean, friendly, and great food. The location isn't anything special but it's clean and comfortable. I think it's a new location. The food was very good!! Having grown up in a family where gumbo was regularly served I was happy to eat a delicious bowl of gumbo here along with other great food. Highly recommended and I look forward to going back sometime.

When we arrived, the restaurant did seem a little understaffed, so service was slower than usual, but thankfully I had made a reservation and we had no trouble getting seated. Even with the wait, the staff was kind and doing their best, which was totally understandable. I ordered the Zydeco pasta with crawfish, and we also shared the jambalaya casserole. Both dishes were fantastic. The pasta was basically like a rich, flavorful lobster mac & cheese -- absolutely delicious. The jambalaya casserole was topped with this amazing cheesy sauce that made it even better. The restaurant itself was such a cute spot, with way more seating than I expected, including an adorable patio in the back. Overall, such a charming place with amazing comfort food. Definitely a spot I'd come back to 100%.

The dining area was clean with a nice stamped concrete floor, had loads of natural light with huge windows in the back, and it had a beautiful New Orleans mural in the back. We wished for a bigger dish for the small cups of gumbo and red beans and rice because they were so good! I'm sure they'd come a bit more seasoned or spicer in the south, but in MO, they seemed to tame it down a bit - still delicious though! (And there are two hot sauces and a Cajun spice blend at the table.) The wedge salad with the homemade blue cheese dressing was delicious!! I'd order the dressing on the side though - our salad was swimming a bit... Enjoy your stop!!

The quality of the seafood was a very clean tasting seafood. Even the shrimp had a nice clean flavor. And we're you looking for butter? Oh, they do (not) spare the sticks of butter at this place! The potato. Oh yes, I said "potato". I have never had a seafood bowl - have (just) a single potato. The potato tasted absolutely great. But 1 potato? That was a joke - especially after you see what these items cost! The garlic butter: There was plenty of butter. Tye flavoring of the butter, certainly was unique of sorts. Seemed to have (possibly) a chili powder base. And though I thought it was good...I also got tired of the taste, after a bit. The Big Downer at this place: Cost. You see my (2) platters. Add (3) cans of Coke - the cost was $150.00. Yes, that's correct: $150.00. Sure, there's a whole lobster on one of the platters. BUT, it wasn't that big by any means. And let's remember: 1 potato was included in the platter. 1 small red potato, came with it; at that price! Lol. Conclusion: Krustaceans is where you should go - for the seafood boiler platters. A much better combination of quality, value and price.

I asked for the manager's name and got the gen Z stare along with 'Kevin' but apparently Kevin's last name is a state secret. The food (cajun combo boil) wasn't as good as it used to be either. Nearly half the mussels were unopened, the sausage was a lot smaller than it used to be, and the single potato was tiny. This used to be a good place, which makes its decline kind of sad. No wonder there was only one other customer in the place.

So, checking Yelp for recommendations, I found Walk-On's Sports Bistreaux - a sports bar with a Cajan/Creole themed menu - and decided to give it a try. My fellow Yelpers did not let me down. Walk-Ons's Sports Bistreaux was excellent. It's loud and, as is typical of most sports bars, it has lots of TVs. This provides for a lively atmosphere. I had crawfish eufotee as an appetizer and it was as good as the eufotee I used to get when working on projects in Louisiana and Texas. For my entree, I opted for a catfish po'boy. Again, it was as good as the po'boys I enjoyed in Louisiana and Texas. My wife ordered the sweet chili shrimp (one of their featured specials). She enjoyed it -- initially - but eventually, the spiciness caught up with her taste buds and she found it a little too spicy. The waitress brought her an extra serving of avacodo that she diced up into the shrimp to cut the spiciness. Overall, she said it tasted very good but she would have preferred a less spicy presentation. Good overall - we will be back next trip through Columbia.
