I've honestly never shopped at one of these places before. First off, it was not what I expected. It was big, clean, and had options. Checkout was different. I didn't know that I'd a "bag your own groceries" place. No big, I actually kind of like that. I was in the 15-or less line. It was quick, the checker polite, and I left quickly. Only thing I was surprised by was pricing. Honestly, I didn't see anything that was priced for less. For example , coffee creamer was $2.00-$4.29, and up. Same as most places. Went there on a Friday at 3:30 PM. They only had two lanes open and at least 15 people. In line I watched two people leave their carts and walk out when I finally got up to get ringed out. I asked what looked to be like a manager why they only have two open his response were. We're doing the best we can it seems like when you have 15 people in line and people are walking away. I have been eating the cooked chicken food for 2 months now and I started noticing myself getting sick as of recent. I wanted to say this store is a great place to shop at. I been shopping here my whole entire adult life. And never had an issue with any of there employees until today. I politely asked Lisa G if I can pass by her to get to where my kids were. And she loudly sighed with frustration. This isn't the first time I actually witnessed Lisa having this type of behavior with other customers. After Lisa was told by the cashier that I wanted to speak to a manager about her. Lisa began yelling with anger at me. I truly hope management figures out a solution with her. Before submitting this review I also noticed there are multiple reviews on Lisa's attitude towards customers. First of all the prices are cheaper than others in the area. The pump/station is really clean. I use diesel fuel and the pumps are usually dirty at other places but not here. The employees are really engaging and helped me with my needs. I'm a customer for life!! read more

rude attitude from the cashier I entered the checkout lane, the cashier was cleaning the conveyor belt and I had no problem waiting. The cashier greeted me with loud sighs and "well you're going to have to wait till this is dry." Tip to Lisa: to clean a conveyor belt you don't need to drench it with the cleaning solution. I responded with "that's fine," since I was in no rush and I did feel bad for interrupting her cleaning. As I patiently stand in silence, she then proceeds to say in a rude tone with more sighs, "you can put your stuff done." I proceeded to pay and she then openly complained to herself, "I am just trying to clean here." It honestly made me want to laugh. I was not expecting an unnecessary attitude and to finish this off, this is my last tip to the cashier Lisa G. If you don't want customers entering your lane then turn your cashier light off or put a close sign down. Having a light on means you are taking customers. As my transaction was finished, she handed me my receipt and I still said thank you to her. Thank you Lisa for the laugh. read more

They have jacked up their prices on a lot of basic items like bread...I like their bread, but the price went from $1.79 to 2 for $5.00 now $3.79 a loaf in the course of about 1 year. Greediness. Orange juice is $7.29? The good thing is that in Cathedral city area we have many choices, Food 4 Less is now "Food 4 MORE" now. I guess the CEO needs a bigger bonus this year...not from me. Filthy. Said to see this place so badly run down and looking so shabby. The aisles were overstuffed and disorganized. When I asked three (3) different employees where to find things I was met with indifference and a genuinely combative response. Three of them! One employee just pulled off her apron and said to me "I'm going on lunch" and left me there to fend for myself in this dirty, rundown old store. There prices are the same or higher than Walmart so what's the point of shopping here? Walmart is clean and friendly. Such a shame. I most assuredly won't be back. read more

Finally found a WINNING combination. YAY !!!! and that is.. FOOD 4 LESS + GELSONS + INSTACART A match made in utter heaven! Turns out that most of the things you see in a Ralphs store is actually offered HALF PRICE or more at Food 4 Less! Why hasn't anybody told me this before??? :-/. My bad actually. I didn't really think about the prices I was paying for groceries before. Now I am. Foolish foolish me. Now that we are in the age of Instacart, I no longer have to deal with bitter and grumpy staff, bad management, no carts, no bags, no service, no help out to the car etc.. Before Instacart, it was a complete and total nightmare to shop at these cut rate stores. Now it's a dream. I am shocked, honestly gobsmacked on how much MORE I was paying at stores like Ralphs, Albertsons, VONS, etc etc etc. I KNEW I was being ripped off daily, but I didn't really know what to do about it. Now I can stop the bleed. I don't know about you, but it doesn't matter how much money you have, money comes and goes, mostly goes. Yesterday (11-10-19) I experienced one of the most genuine and Informative customer service experiences ever by an employee. The only reason I am giving this review is so that hopefully his superiors recognize his hard work and dedication to the Food 4 Less organization. Although he was very busy multitasking, he went out of his way to make sure that I found every item on my shopping list that I could not find, Even though I asked a few other employees (a girl by the name Jenson and a girl Susan) they only pointed and said "a few more isle down" HORRIBLE WORK ETHICS! Waiting in line to cash out. I'm next. The cashier tells the person in front his total. He says- hold on I have another basket- calling his friend. So now were waiting for he to finish shopping. She brings the 2nd basket around and backs into the Register. And they start ringing up a second cart full. I said why didn't you guys wait till you were all together before you started cashing out now we have three people waiting. The black male with a very large Mexican woman coming at me saying you want some of this. So I told them to call 911 that we have a problem. Instead they called the ? Meat manager comes speaking in Spanish the whole time to the other people. And then tells me to calm down because I said why didn't they wait till they were all together. Then he tells me he'll speak in Spanish anytime he waits. Told him that was full of BS. And he told me not to come back. Not a problem. He said he had surgery done on his knee and she replied that she didn't care, the scooters are for her older customers.... so pregnant and handicap customers aren't allowed on the scooters to shop comfortably at Food 4 Less in cathedral city... such a rude manager... read more

This is more like a big box store than a simple grocery store. If you need something out of the ordinary, you might check FOOD FOR LESS. There is a large selection of both Hispanic and Asian foods, from soup to nuts, which by the way, they carry. I watch the weekly add, and make my FFL list. A few weeks ago they had sweet corn from Olathe. If you have ever tasted it, the corn is Devine! They were priced at 20 cents per ear. I would have paid way more, yeah, that corn is that good! I also buy pork rib tips at FFL. I use my convection oven and my ribs will outshine anyone who insists on grilling ribs. The only thing I can think of as a less than fun, is trying to get the 2ltr bottles off the shelf. They are pretty far over my head. Check 'em out. read more

I normally purchase Geyser sparkling mineral water. The store was out but had JARRITOS Mexican brand mineral water. I purchased 10-botles. I consumed one bottle in two days and by the third day my entire body was covered in blistering hives and scared my arms and legs. I did not consume anything different from my diet except the Jarritos mineral water. I looked at the back of one of the bottles to check for the ingredients and noticed that it contained SULFITES. I am highly elegiac to SULFITES I did not expect for sparkling water to contain SULFITES since have been banned in food consumption since 1986. I went to Food For Less in Vista California and spoke with the cashier and the manager at 6:45 p.m. and I informed them of the statement I made above. The response was shocking because they were defending JARRITOS and said things like. "I do not have an allergic reaction to sulfites and sulfites are in wire" or "you need to contact the manufacturer if you are not happy with the product" "man I just work here what do you want me to do" "its not my fault you have an allergic reaction you can have your food delivered to you if you got sick." I mean the response from both managers was ridiculous, uninformed, ignorant, and shocking to the mind for someone who is suppose to be in charge of chain store. The manager was ill informed, no experience or education with product liability, customer service, or process in which to report the sale of a food item that is harmful and has killed the public and certainly banned for consumption. The manager stated that was my fault because I did not read the label. However, I did not expect a banned substance to be present in large qualities in DRINKING WATER. Food for less needs to contact me and inform me of the complaint process and how to report such items that are harmful and have been known to cause deaths in the food industry. read more

Having shopped routinely in the boutique markets as well as the larger national chains, it was a pleasant surprise to find a place with everything you could possibly want, a large and varied selection, and prices which won't have you needing to take out a loan on your new born! I could have spent a lot more time navigating the aisles, but my schedule only allowed me to head for the fresh meat section for chicken wings and NYC steaks. The cost of the wings was less than half the cost I had spent two days before at Ralph's. And the steaks were a real deal. I will definitely go back. There is nothing wrong with this store. We have a Food 4 Less at home and it is what you should expect from a lower priced grocery store chain. I personally purchase meat from Costco, so I didn't buy anything there. It's cheaper than most grocery stores, so if you want to save money and not have a, "Nice" grocery store, you'll do just fine here. Will be back next time we're in vacation. read more

This store is clean, well-lit (I hate when stores turn the lights half off sometimes, not sure why), and has great deals. I like to go here for specific items, such as breakfast cereal, sliced meat and bread. This is one of those places that keeps prices low by having you bag your own groceries, which I LOVE to do because half the time, my stuff gets bagged all unevenly and just...wrong. So that's a plus. Now that Cathedral City has jumped on the "no more plastic bags" bandwagon, make sure you bring your own reusable bags when you go in. The only weird thing that happened was that when I left, I got bombarded by some religious evangelists who were shouting into a megaphone in Spanish. It was just bizarre. I probably should have gone back into the store and let them know about this, but it was late, and windy, and I didn't. Not their fault, but it did effect my experience there. Owned by the Kroger Company, this store is my favorite in the Palm Springs area during my first year living here in Cathedral City! BEST buys and huge selection of fresh garden and produce plus really good prices on local and world-wide liquors. Huge amount of specials and swift check out. The worst shopping experience ever. All I needed was two bottles of Diet Coke. The sign said $.99 each. I got into the check out line for 15 items or less and the line was incredibly long (there was only one other line open for a store that size). It took at least 15 minutes to get to the cashier. The lady in front of me had a bunch of flowers that she said the sign said $7.99. The cashier said they were $11.99 and when asked why the difference, responded only some were $7.99. It was now my turn and she said my 2 bottles were $4.33. When I told her the sign said $.99, she said that was only if you buy 4. I certainly wasn't going back to get 2 more and wait in that line again, so I paid what she asked for the two, but will never go back again. This place is horrible dirty, they treat you like sh*t and your cheap labor the only way to get a raise is to accumulate 800 hours wth when your only given 20 hours a week . there's so many horror stories here and tattle tales/ rats waiting to tell management anything even if its a lie. The employees aren't being trained, your basically just shoved out there on your own or trained less then an hour by another employee. The cashiers are rude, & lazy because of the union that they have. The deli isn't cleaned properly because of a plumbing issue ewwwww. there's an employee that takes her child to work with her every morning and she even takes her to the receiving area. food gets misplaced and left out and then taken to its proper shelf eventually. customers open packages and leave food thrown behind other items on the shelves. the bathrooms are filthy bleah. read more

Went to this store in the afternoon. Was helped in the register by a younger lady, and had taken my $25 gift card. Thought it would be easy to use, and just happens the girl had no clue how to even get the balance. Asked the manager who's name is VIC & guy was just so rude and told me their system does not take it, and that i neither need the receipt or to call to get the balance and show them. The guy did nothing to help us, i had not taken any cash with me, and had another family member pay for me. Would not come here, he does not go that extra step, and seems to not care!!! read more

The prices are okish. The people stocking are really nice. There were left over mushrooms and I asked if there were anymore. He took out a whole box of fresh mushrooms. After we finished, we had exactly 15 items so we can line up in the express lane. The lady was extremely annoyed. She was like 'do you know this is the express lane?' She sound like we cant read the sign. We said we had 15 items. She kept mumbling that she had to scan so many items for us and that it was a hassle. The grapes were 1.79 and she scanned it as 1.99 so my mother asked her about it and she sounded like we were bothering her. 'ma'am, do you want it or not?' She had a annoyed and harsh tone. I didn't see her name tag but she shouldn't be working as a cashier if she is this rude and feels annoyed about her job. She is one of the worst cashiers out there.
