There was a small selection of fresh produce and abundant frozen dumplings and vegetables. Tofu and other protein options for the vegetarian were also well represented. I found some interesting beverages and snacks, and despite it being busy I experienced a reasonably swift checkout experience. For what it is, this place seems a success to me.

Oasis is located in Blacksburg Square's shopping center in Blacksburg, VA and features a spacious interior with plenty of aisles to browse. The store primarily sells products from the continents of Africa and Asia with a wide range of produce, meats, spices, snacks, and drinks. Every time I pay them a visit, I stock up on various málà soup bases for my hotpot and tandoori spices for grilling. They have a nice selection of alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks from around the world that are worth checking out as well. The prices can be a little high, but overall, this is worth it for the quality of imported products you can purchase. If you need assistance in finding anything, the staff are ready to help. The trip to Blacksburg is always worth it to be able to shop at Oasis World Market, so give them a visit if you are in Southwest Virginia.

But for me the highlight was the bar serving a dozen or so different beers catering for every taste, as well as a similar number of red and white wines. The drink prices are half what you'd pay in a bar/restaurant elsewhere in town, so there's a limit of 3 per person. There is talk that Kroger are going to close the "Kro-bar" and turn it into a cheese counter. It would a shame if that were to happen. Prepared foods was a much bigger entrant, as was the freezer section. The lack of fresh items seems contrary to the health food vibe. On the upside, you'll struggle to find a place that has more niche brands with vegan, gluten-free, and other specialty items. The local focus is also appreciated. On the downside, I was surprised how expensive it was, and that's with shopping the sale items and the $1 credit I apparently picked up by shopping at the Roanoke Earth Fare. They have reorganized their offerings, and they offer weekly sale items as listed in a commercial-style flyer. They began carrying Cadadia ("every day") brand that offers competitive prices on numerous staples. Their bulk prices are usually LOWER than the pre-packaged item at Kroger. You'll receive excellent, knowledgeable service as needed. Yes, many of the prices are higher than Kroger, but what Eats offers is local and/or TRULY organic food (unlike larger commercial brands.) Oh, and there is a discount for seniors on all items, every day, all the time. I abandoned the corporate shopping mentality, and I love Eats.
