I love this grocery store. I've been missing out thinking it was going to one of the same and it's not. Its clean and organized, odor and fruit fly free, I appreciate that. The only issue is there's usually only two registers open which makes for a long line every time. I've only bought limes because I make thee best home made margaritas and they are always fresh. Let start with the basics. This is a no frill, no bakery, butcher/seafood, no department having old school basic store. Why the above average rating then?... It is mainly for nostalgic reasons. This is the kind of grocery store I would go to with my grandma in HC (hiram clarke for the OG's). Like Fiesta, the produce is generally cheaper than most chain stores ala Krogers/HEB/Walmart. They have more Mexican products and produce (bulk beans and rice, laundry and personal care items) that are go to classics and sometimes they have pan dulce from a panderia which all chain stores (besides Fiesta) lack. That alone gives them a above average rating for me. The staff is overall friendly and the store is clean yet "dated". I grew up nearby and have seen this supermarket as Food Lion, Gerland's, and Food Town (longest incarnation so far). My mother comes here occasionally. I find it to be a practical supermarket without lots of unnecessary decorations/embellishments or extra-nice products like pretentious Whole Foods/Central Market-type supermarkets. Overall, the prices are low. I come by occasionally to get last-minute items like Super-Glue, etc.. The ethnic diversity of the clientele is wide. read more

NASTY CUSTOMER SERVICE. I tried to return some aluminum pans with lids at the customer service counter which is behind glass and locked door. The checker asked me what's wrong with it and I said I didn't need it. Then she asked me to hold each item against the glass for her to scan. When she couldn't scan the pans she told me to remove the clear plastic cover on top of the aluminum pans and I did. However, I didn't know it was Scott taped on three sides. During the process I ribbed the cover broken which was paper-thin, of course Made in China stuff. A lady came by I understood she was the manager and she said "he's destroying it". Then she reached out and stopped me and said "What are you doing?" which was not in a nice tone of voice. Then she took the pans, opened the door went inside and let the checker scan it. Then she came back out, looked at the pans again and asked me what's wrong with it (the same question the clerk already asked me). Again I said I didn't need it. She threw the one with broken lid on the counter in front of me and left. Well I tried to return the items intact and unopened in the first place. It was not my fault that the checker couldn't scan it. Then followed her direction. Obviously the manager thought otherwise and acted in a nasty manner. Maybe Food Town should design a pull-out drawer like a bank's drive through so the checker could touch and scan everything, or maybe the outside cashiers should be allowed to process the returns like Walgreens. Most importantly, the manager should relearn some customer service etiquette. I was going to buy something afterward but decided to bring my business to the Neighborhood Walmart which is 4 min away. I felt sorry for Food Town when Walmart opened the neighborhood store, but now I'm rethinking. I've been this Food Town customer for the past 14 years. read more

Fort Bend County is one of the areas with high numbers of new Covid19 cases and yet Foodtown is still complacent abut cleaning. There may or may not be supplies to clean the carts. Very inconsistent. And they still are allowing their employees not to wear masks correctly. Employees Raylene and Katie were wearing their masks incorrectly. They were so low on their face that I could see their lips. Very sad that they have so little regard for the safety of the community that shops with them. read more

Food Town is convenient for me and my family.. there are a few things it lacks (Fresh Seafood, Bakery) besides that most of the time we go we find what we're looking for... I must say the staff has been very consistent with humbleness, and kindness.. I never had an issue finding a staff member to help me and with a big smile they are there to help out! Good place for the essentials: vegetables, fruit, milk, meat, etc. We had 3 separate orders and cashier was really nice and patient. Searched for coconut oil, corn flake breaded crumbs, and Bob's Red Mill, Steel Cut Oats and was not able to find them. I did find Stevia packets. read more

I been going to Food Town for the past 7 years and there is this one lady in the meat department. I ask her for some information on a particular meat and she had no idea what i was saying. If your going to have people in chage of a department, make sure they understand the language. On top of that, I felt like she was being bothered by te look of disgusted she had on her face. I will call corprate to see if this can be taking care of because I truly enjoy visiting this store. The manager and the cashiers are all so kind and helpful. read more

If you are wanting just a basic, essential, not fancy, non unique grocery item then this Food Town is great for that quick grab. If you're looking for top organic, fancy, unique brands or an uncommon item then you'll do better elsewhere. This is a smaller store with a very friendly staff and the lines usually move efficiently. It's decently clean and well stocked with, again, basic items. The prices are a little less than elsewhere and that probably can be attributed to the simplicity of the store. The layout is easy to follow and foods seem to be up to current date and well rotated. I've not purchased produce or meats here so I cannot comment on those. For me, this is a place to get that necessary basic when I happen to be in the area. read more

We live 5 minutes from Food Town and drive all the way to another store that's further away just to get one item. My neighbor had her purse stolen in the parking lot. I know, that could happen any where, but it didn't. The store is small compared to the big boys (HEB, Kroger, Randalls) and it shows. If you're looking for something special you won't find it here. The fruits and vegetables look terrible and I walked out when I saw flies on the peaches. I can only imagine what the meat and seafood are like. Over all, the store looks dirty and the parking lot always seems to have trash in it. That should tell you something about the customers. Now that HEB is open nearby, a quick run to the store is easy. read more

Food Town is definitely my all time favorite grocery store. The only thing lacking is a Fresh Seafood Department (in this particular location, not sure about others). Meats are usually on sale. Different cuts/styles of beef, pork, chicken, etc are fresh and available and I also find a cut called "Chinese style" spare ribs as well. I like coming here b/c I find most of items a bit cheaper than Kroger or Randalls. And I notice that Food Town employs older folks, vets, and people with disabilities. I respect that! Every time I shop at Food Town I have to wait for someone to come and open the cigarette case which takes time out of my day. A few days ago, I attempted to buy cigarettes and had to leave without them because no one ever came to open the cigarette case. Also, the lady in front of me had to leave for the same reason. Something needs to change so Food Town doesn't lose anymore customers. read more

It is old school for sure. When I walk in I feel like I stepped 30 years back in time to Hiram Clarke Weingartens/ Foodarama. I love it. It may not have a seafood department, bakery or any bells and whistles but the prices are on point and they cater to a growing Hispanic market (cleaning products and GOYA as far as the eye can see! etc.) . Small, local store for the basics. Clean and well-stocked. Check their weekly ads, they have some great deals. Mostly the people are so very courteous, and it's never too crowded. It's not my primary grocery, but it's a really good backup stop that's close to home. read more
