Visiting the Sugarland Keemat for the first time. Looks bigger than the Hillcroft one but am not sure. Has similar set-up too, but i was told that ownership is different, so am thinking its on the lines of a franchise. Their food corner is much bigger with an in store kitchen. I believe some items like the vada pav, the samosas , and of course the dhokla get shipped to Hillcroft from here. They have an in house chat corner with two tables tucked away which I wouldn't suggest. Its a place to sit down for a bit, while I do appreciate the idea, it felt like I was eating in the middle of a warehouse , I didn't like it and did not even enjoy the bhel I bought. It probably was good I cannot say, I was famished and was so glad to find that they had my favorite chats, but once I sat down I just gulped down and couldn't wait to escape towards the better side of the store.... I would get a to- go next time. The vegetables I bought were fresh and the crates and crates of mangoes were just soo inviting. I am so disappointed with the staff, especially a white haired gentleman ( not sure if I should say gentlemen). He was soooo rude yesterday when I wanted to exchange a few items. I have been going to Keemat Grocers since 1988 when it was on Settler's Way and Hwy 6. I bought products for the upcoming Lakshmi puja, but I dropped the bag on the floor and it touched my feet. I wanted to exchange four items ( a coconut , paan, bel leaves, and 2 suparies), and this staff initially wouldn't exchange the items and said so rudely and said to just wash them. I told him no and he very rudely asked me to get the items. I was shocked with his rudeness as if I was trying to get things for free. I would appeal to Bengalis in Sugar Land not to support Keemat grocers unless they train their staff to be polite and cordial. read more

Keemat Grocers have good products and dahi baray but please don't waste your money when ordering pakoras for the party. They showed big pakoras but send two trays of scraps of those big pakoras. So disappointed. read more

Went there after months to get Paneer Samosa. Told her to fry in hot oil because they usually start frying in old or cold oil which makes the samosa oil soaking... But i guess they don't care about hygiene or the health. Ate one on the way back to home and my tummy is hurting so badly since last 4 hours now. I just left this horrible establishment! Not only did the lady in the back look at me three times and didn't acknowledge my presence when I tried to order food from cafe...but then another person came and questioned my pronunciation of the products I was ordering! Trust I will inform my parents who used to frequent this store to not use this store! It amazes me with so much competition in sugar land...you choose to be rude to customers trying to give you business in this economy! we have been going to this store for years, overall good store to buy indian groceries. I have found many products have no prices marked on shelves so it is difficult to shop, have told this to management but they did not care. lately I-have found that the products that do not have pricing ring up a lot higher than usual, if it is 5-10% I can understand inflation but on a lot of products are charged by as much as 30-40% more, what a way to cheat customers, this is very common on lots of products so , be careful. so shoppers buyer beware, watch out for this tactic used by store to rip off the customers. read more

The samosas are so good here! I usually call I'm ahead and they are ready for me when I arrive. They are made fresh. There is all kinds of snacks and other things that I have come to enjoy. They also have great tea selections! read more

My parents and I decided to wonder through this place on our way to Specs. It clearly caters to the Indian community carrying a wide variety of diverse products I tend to think of as "Indian food" but not much of the more traditional "American foods." It was really quiet, and the place is full of cameras (and monitors so you can see yourself on camera all of the store) so it's a little awkward. Nothing particularly negative, but nothing to brag about either. On the upside there is a decent little selection of British candy, but it's not cheap. read more

I was at the salon next door so I went into Kemats Grocery . This was my second time in the store. The store is very nice and has a lot of spices and Indian foods. I went to the back of the store there are a lot of ready made foods you can buy and that you can order. I do not know the names of the food but I love to try all the finger foods. (I basically point and ask what's is in this?)The first time I came I orders the pizza pockets looking snacks and it was a little greasy. I think it had just opened. The second time everything was perfect and so delish! The cook was nice and let me try some type of cold salad. It was really good. The prices seem really good. They have a lot of 2 for $1 items the small samosas type pockets. The first time I went in I could tell some people were wondering what I was doing in the store. Lol , but I was very nice and I always smile. I love Indian food so they need to get to know me, haha! This second time everyone was super nice. I love the store and I know it's growing and they don't have many cashiers but I am never in a hurry so it wasn't a huge deal. But I think they do need to have a separate cashier just for prepared foods. Because everyone had a very full basket, it was sat so that was prolly why. I will be back, I like this store. read more

I have read the other reviews on here and decided to visit this Keemat Grocers myself. Plenty of people here I guess the ones that are non-Indian have mentioned, they do not have prices on some of their produce..its true they don't. What are you guys expecting? Its a indian store, not Whole Foods! You have to ask! I found the produce to be fresh but again I asked the owner on what days their produce arrives and those are the days that I show up at this store! So far the tactic has worked and all my produce that I bought starting from Methi, to Karela, Long Squash has been fresh and not spoiled on me. Their samosas are very good, though I have not tried any other menu Item. This store by far is much closer to me, hence I don't have to drive to Hillcroft every time. The prices are also extremely reasonable. Cleanliness again this is a Indian Store so I don't expect much but as long as the produce is kept sanitized I won't complain much. And for people that are grumbling go to your American Stores..its really simple! read more

I grew up in sugarland (s/o to Travis) and love Indian food. Love this new location. After I moved to Australia I realized what a gem a neighborhood store like this is. Now that I'm back in town I make sure to stop by at least twice a month for their fresh samosas and lassi, a mint yogurt drink from india. They have a bottled version from Karoon that is super delicious. Also they carry a snack section that kills HEB bro. I love getting some good whiskey from specs and some punjabi snacks like pa-core-ahs (idk how u spell it) and hot mix. One of the managers Rashim is cool too. Always offers my fam and me chai when they have it. He has a fun laugh. S/o to Keemat for keeping it real. read more

I love Keemat Grocers! They have everything you need. You just have to realize the desi mentality. They may seem abrupt or curt but you would too if you had to deal with bargain seekers all day long. I have bought food items from them twice and both times there were items that turned out to be stale and rotten. It was jalebis the first time and the second time it was milk. Either the refrigeration is poor or the facility is unhygienic. In either case I would say that the business is unprofessional and unethical. I would recommend the food control to pay them a visit. read more

I've been going to this new location since they've opened up. I love those hard working ladies, they r the best. My most popular item is Khandvi, I've been getting it made for year and a half. Someone needs to check their fridge temperatures. A lot of the food purchased here is spoiled. A few times that I've been here, I've noticed that their prices are higher than other Indian stores. The items for which their prices seem reasonable, they charge you a different price at the counter than what is listed. When you ask the cashiers about it, they ask someone else and they tell you that you misread the price and it was a different packaging that's listed at the price that you were expecting to pay. I don't bother arguing over a difference of less than $1 on the price of something or just simply drop the product. For my own satisfaction, this last time, I went back to check myself and I was correct! Sign clearly read the price I was expecting the cash register to ring up in the correct packaging that I purchased. I took the sign off the shelf and handed it to the cashier and they simply looked at it and said "oh...sorry....this sign is wrong". I just smiled and walked out. Questionable temperatures of fridge and up-charging customers thinking they won't notice? Really Keemat Grocers? How much are you really saving when you lose customers through these practices?. Having grown up in the NY/NJ area, I am used to having a plethora of choices when it comes to Indian groceries. The grocery stores in the Northeast are always well stocked with great produce. So it was quite a surprise when I moved to Houston and saw the dismal state of the Indian grocery scene. After visiting several Indian grocery stores in the area (including Hilcroft), I have come to the conclusion that this Keemat is the best choice for all my produce needs. On a separate note, we also tried the tiffin from the café and were not that impressed. It might be convenient for some people, but I won''t be a repeat customer. P.S. Heard about this place from a friend and decided to check it out. I have been to other Asian stores in sugarland but this one was exceptional. Produce section was extremely fresh with really low prices. Picked some fresh mangoes and lychees. They have a Kitchen in the back that had different kinds of samosas at fantastic prices. They also have a juice bar and the lady at the counter was very helpful and cheerful and let me sample different items. Sampled an item called "khandvi"...indian pasta I guess but was delicious. I enjoyed walking this spacious store and just loved the tea selection. Great variety of fresh spices and very organized. Definitely be coming back. read more

I visit this place often, groceries are reasonably priced and the place is clean, They have good selection that serves our purpose nicely. Service is availabe when we need, food court has good food, some items are very good and some not depending upon your tastebuds. My main complaint is that not all items have prices on shelf, so you do not know what you will be charged at the checkout. This is very frustating because you cannot be calling to someone for price check repeatedly, and you have to be on guard at checkout for being overcharged.. read more

Very well maintained store. I think they have a Keemat Grocer in Hillcroft as well. I dropped in here after a year and it was great. They have a buffet for 7 bucks which really fills you up. Their produce section is without question the cleanest among all desi grocery stores. They have at times pre cut okra, beans, etc which is a huge time saver. Some desi stores get their produce from random suppliers and i am not sure how safe it is, chemical wise but i think they get their produce from a more "dependable" supplier based on what it said when i bought a big box of Okra. read more

One of the best Indian grocery stores in Sugar Land... Prices are solid and store is kept clean as well.

The naan bread from their restaurant is as thin as paper plate and there is no flavor or any salt in it. It was also uncooked and hard to eat. I will not be getting it from here again. We also called them and they said sorry but they did not offer a refund or replacements. It's very disappointing. read more

I love Keemat! Just experienced my first time shopping at an Indian Grocery store and it could not have been better. The store was suggested by an Indian neighbor whose food is always excellent and her husband is a Chef, so I went on her recommendation. My daughter gave me The Cardamom Trail for Mother's Day, and I entered Keemat with 'Chetna recipe' in hand (yes, this is the Keemat Anthony Bourdain was at!). What a pleasant surprise! The store was slightly smaller than your typical HEB or Kroger, yet it stocked everything I had on my list PLUS! Produce on its own is a big draw to a grocery store, and the produce at Keemat was fresh and rivaled the larger stores' selection. I absolutely loved their rice selection and came home with a beautiful bag of long grain packed in its own bag and then inserted in an outer black zippered bag. The store was clean, the help was friendly, no long lines at checkout . . . but the spice selection . . . oh, the spices were something that I have never before experienced in grocery or even spice specialty stores. The spices at Keemat actually deserve a review of their own. Fresh, fresh, fresh. In a pinch (haha), I have bottled spices, and spices from the specialty stores. Not any more. What a difference these fresh spices made. So fragrant, aromatic, and everything smelled and tasted so good. Chetna's recipe, Keemat's spices. Oh, the prices. Naturally, Indian prices mean a big bargain, and Keemat did not disappoint. It wasn't just that the prices were 'dirt cheap' - it was way more than that. I don't know how they do it because of how often they get them in, but Keemat was just so nice all around and a very good experience.. I'm kind of surprised that Keemat didn't charge more for their items because they ARE so fresh = better quality, but they are the business people and they DO have the 'direct connection' on all of the best spices, produce, bottles and cans of imports (and some domestic). After talking to store personnel and the manager, he even offered me a Chai. All I can say about it is that it was hot and flavored like exotic India, and he explained it was made with milk, cardamom, cinnamon, and cloves. That was it, right then and there, Keemat became my new go-to shopping place. I am actually looking forward to my next Chetna recipe so I can go back. In fact, Italian, Indian, American, Greek, my dishes will be raised a few notches with the inclusion of the freshest herbs and spices. With all the work that goes into a dish, why have I used anything less . . . probably because I wasn't aware of the huge difference it makes. Lately, I have been experimenting with cinnamon and heat like cayenne in chocolate that I make, so I will definitely try the fresh spices in those recipes. Keemat is a hidden gem, tucked away neatly in a strip shopping center, and I can't wait to go back. My only disappointment is that I didn't discover it sooner. Go there. It's fun, it's clean, everything is fresh, and you get a bigger savings on your total checkout. We want Keemat to stay around for a long time, and I'm happy to be a growing customer with them. I have been keemats loyal customer be it grocery or the kitchen at the back...the whole staff is friendly but theres this lady with short hair (bob cut) she is extremely rude...their tawa pulav used to be 3.99 only and it is 6 something dollars with way less quantity..they keep increasing the prices and decreasing the quantity n quality..the pulav literally had whole cinnamon sticks!!! The cauliflower was not even cut down into edible size florets!!!! For almost 7 dollars i expected a decent meal. I requested the lady to fill up more since the quantity was way less but she was adamant..i even said i will not order from here next time..but she looked more than happy to lose a loyal customer.! You guys really need to work on the value for money part!! Im for sure not gonna order anything from here anymore!!! read more
