I came in for ingredients to my homemade fresh spring rolls that I like preparing. The produce selection was quite lacking. They didn't have Asian long cucumbers(the ones I used to grow in my garden), no mint, only basil. The Asian long eggplant was musty and beat up. Not fresh. They didn't sell three ladies rice paper brand, no vegetarian hoisin sauce. The prices were okay. The aisle with the tofu was warm unknown if the soybean products were chilled enough for purchase. They did sell San San Tofu green soymilk, block tofu, and other products. The bakery section was non-existent. I managed to get bean sprout marinated snack that I'll try in my spring roll. I got 99 problems, but this ranch ain't one. And I prefer 69 Raunch to 99 Ranch but that's another story for another day. Not the best 99 Ranch and it seems like it's lost in transition, or was for a long time, as it's been slowly morphed into something a little bit more fantastic over the past few years. It's a good place to hang out, but possibly due to corona, a lot of little places inside seem to be closed and it's a fairly quiet Supermarket compared to some of the ones in Houston - meaning the international grocery stores. Why am i not surprised that I would have another bad experience at this place. I only came back here because I was getting a hair cut near by. I went in for some chicken broth, and the sign says $10.98 a box. When I went to go checkout my total came out to be $11.88..I went to customer service to clarify on the pricing and of course they gave me a difficult time about it. She told me that the sign was for the ones with no salt...-,- Where on the sign did it specify that the price was for the no salt version?! I don't wanna argue over $.90 cents so i just left. Their pricing is so misleading. You should be honoring the price that you had put out.. To me this isn't about the money at all (i couldn give a fk over $.90 cents) but at least apologize for the mixup and honor the pricing you had out on the floor. I come to this location every few weeks. Mostly got fresh fish and herbs. The herb prices are better than most grocery stores and they have a good variety. I have never had a problem with the freshness of the seafood. I always have problems with heb and kroger in this area. The only issue is service at the fish counter. It has been moving faster lately. The service in the fresh fish department is the worst. The female employees completely ignored me and passed me by, even after I repeatedly asked to be excused at close range. I waited 10 minutes and no one complied. I asked how long I had to wait and was ignored. Terrible service! When I raised my voice, one employee responded, but the fish was processed very poorly. Been here multiple times. They have a great selection of frozen dumplings, hot pot items, seafood, and beef. Their hot takeout is delicious and a great value. However, they don't do much to cater to non-Chinese customers. A lot of the signage doesn't have english, and their customer service is really rude. Ranch 99 told me I was not allowed to use my own shopping bags, due to Covid-19. While Jusgo next door gave me 5 cents off for each reusable bag that I brought. Jusgo also provided disinfectant at entrance for patrons to use. Ranch 99 is too crammed with merchandise and too crowded with patrons. Serious violation against fire hazard regulations, as well Covid-19 social distancing. Don't go to Ranch 99 unless you absolutely have to. read more

This review is for the bakery. Listen, you shouldn't expect phenomenal bread here, just look at the price point compared to its competition in Sugar Land (just 85 degrees). But for the price (I got the on sale bread for a dollar per piece), it's a clear 5/5. I had some coffee cream cheese large puffy bread, a taro bun, and a red bean mochi bun, and every single bread had a great chew to the dough and plenty of delicious filling. Each piece easily was on par or better than 85 degrees' competing product. Come here if you're going to go to 85, and pick up some groceries for the week with all the money you'll save. read more

Management really needs to go and monitor the seafood section. The workers there are ignoring customers. I been there 3 to 4 different times on different days and have to wait from 30 to 40 minutes to get some help. Yesterday I just left without buying any seafood. Yeah, it kind of smells fishy in here, but it's NOWHERE as bad as the other Asian markets. As a professional Asian food market/grocery store visitor (my credentials are, that I'm Asian and my immigrant parents often yearn for all things Asian), I can say confidently that 99 Ranch Market is probably one least offensive smelling Asian grocery stores. Perhaps one of the most Americanized, as it's a chain that was established initially in California. This 99 Ranch is much smaller than the one on Blalock and 1-10, but it is more than sufficient for any of your Asian market needs. You hankering for some Asian pastries - enter and take an immediate right and load up your trays with all kinds of reasonably priced ($1-$2) red bean, taro, custard, shredded pork, etc. filled treats. Also available are cake rolls and customizable celebration cakes - if I recall correctly from my cake-eating days (before I contracted "the veganism") Asian birthday cakes are notably lighter and less intensely sweet as their American grocery store counterparts. Head further to the right and you'll find the ready-made food stall/area - there's a fair amount of prepackaged meals, sushi, banana leaf-wrapped rices, etc. and if you're feeling like hey, you deserve choices, because your forefathers fought for your right to choose or party, you can opt for one for one of the styrofoam boxes filled with your selection of meats or vegetables. Vegans/vegetarians, depending on the day, there's usually a couple of soy or gluten based items that aren't half bad but I will caution that they tend to be quite salty and best devoured after stir-frying them with some unseasoned vegetables. The rest of the store is pretty standard issue - Asian, sauces, noodles, cookies, cookware, vegetables, soy products, frozen goodies, etc. For those of you searching for more exotic produce items, probably worth checking out 99 Ranch before trekking to Whole Foods or Central Market - your wallet will thank you. So okay, 99 Ranch Market is perhaps pricier than Welcome and the now defunct Welfarm (driven out of business by 99 Ranch), but how about NOT buying moldy or expired food stuff (ahem Welfarm!)? After we got our receipt and we soon found out she did charge one item twice. So we went to the customer service and we explained to her. First, she said she need to watch the cctv. This Ranch 99 is noticeably smaller than the I-10 @ Blalock location. The prices are sometimes different from that location, too. Almost all the bakery items cost more here and the bakery section is a lot smaller than the I-10 @ Blalock location. The produce looks to be just as fresh. Overall, the prices at the I-10 @ Blalock location are better than this Sugar Land location. I will still drive out to that Ranch 99 instead of this closer Sugar Land one. A higher percentage of the clientele here are Chinese. Parking is much more plentiful and less hectic at this Sugar Land location. This Ranch 99 will probably steal a little business from the nearby Wel-Farm but not the first Houston Ranch 99. read more

If it weren't for the fact that I work in Sugar Land I'd never come to this location. Especially since their sister location on Blalock is bigger and size does matter~ Still this location has the basics down and can be convenient for those who don't want to make the trek into Chinatown and beyond. There aren't independent restaurants inside since there's no room for them. However they do have a mini-food court with seating. The food here I've found to be iffy, it varies between okay and "meh, it's edible." Just don't expect Chinatown restaurant quality. However they sell milk tea (+ tapioca bubbles) for under $2! Also the food in the buffet trays are better than the take out bowls on the counter. Yes, those bowls are a great deal ($3-4) and look nice, but I'm usually disappointed with them. Sometimes they're over seasoned or the meat is skimpy. What looks like a duck leg and large chunks of breast meat ends up being a leg with the lower torso (slivers of meat covering a thick rib cage). This iffiness carries into the baked goods. Pork sung buns are one of my favorite item at any bakery. Bought one here and found it it had this crazy horseradish (fake wasabi) mayo in it. Now granted it is much different from your typical Kroger, HEB and Randall's experience but for specialty items you can't beat it! Now I like this place vs Welfresh (formerly known as Welfarm) as it seems more interesting and brighter! Now the customer service can be much better. Smiles would help. But I'm mainly there for the specialty items. I really like the produce. As an example their Napa cabbage is huge compared to HEB and the prices are much better! The produce seems always fresh and large and of stellar quality! Much better than their competitors. You will get dinged on things like milk or orange juice. Probably because of volume that the bigger chains can handle but you make it up on everything else! It's just a fun experience and I'm not saying this because I'm Asian. I'm your typically ABC I guess. Wanting to identify with my cultural heritage but too picky and spoiled sometimes. If you want to cook dishes like your favorite restaurants you can find what you need here but after that it's how serious and dedicated you want to get.
