I was browsing online and saw that online ordering was offered. This is a great convenience since I have three small children. I can order cakes and food trays for parties and call it a day without ever leaving my house. Unfortunately, when I arrived to pick up the order for my son's birthday they had nothing prepared. I showed them my confirmation email that I had placed five days earlier. The party was in less than two hours and they wanted me to return in an hour and a half to let them try to get everything together. Junior, the store manager, printed my order and tried to make things right. He discounted my order and asked if he could offer anything else for the inconvenience. I appreciate his efforts but at the end of the day it was a big mess. The cake was awful. It wasn't the design I had picked online but they tried. When I cut into it the icing clumped together and my guests didn't even want to eat it. I also ordered a meat and cheese tray for a group of toddlers. It was all supposed to be cubed. I mentioned that I did not want anything rolled on the tray but when I picked up the tray it had rolled meat. My party of three year olds didn't want rolled lunch meat. I also ordered a tray of chicken tenders. Those were okay. Junior discounted my order for the price of the meat and cheese tray but considering I think the whole thing should have been free. It was a good effort but there is definitely miscommunication within the store because at the end of the day I didn't get what I ordered and the stress that went along with the mix up was not worth the price I paid for the convenience. read more

Worst bathrooms ever and now not only is it hard to get there due to the metal fence type wall they have on both sides by the liquor/beer and the front and exit area. it's just an inconvenience. also they have a code panel lock for both bathrooms. not clean nor cared for. read more

I can't stand this store!! The lines are always outrageously long. The crowd can often be questionable. You are often asked for money at the door by a homeless person, bell-ringer, or other pestering patron. I only gave them one star because they have cheap beer occasionally, like $3.98 12pks of PBR or Durango. I avoid this place at all costs, but sometimes just have to go for the late night trip for whatever we've run out off. read more

Can't give you a rating as you don't have one less than zero. I shopped this Food4less on a Saturday and bought a package of " Pork for Posole". When I pulled the meat out of the package all of it was covered in fat hidden under the good side of the pork. Literally half of the package was fat and not just any fat, it had the 1/2" fat that is next to the skin. It was totally gross. I took photos but this site doesn't have an area to attach a photo. I took the fat back in the container and gave it to a manager who wanted to give me another package. Are you kidding? I would never buy meat at Food4less ever again. Gross! read more

Manager Mike provided me excellent customer service. For the life of me I could not find corn on the cob and I was telling the checker I really needed some. Mike was in line right behind me and overheard. He immediately called the produce department and located the corn. He then turned back to me and asked how many I needed and he'd go get them for me! That Grocery store has the worst customer service ever. It is even worse than Wal-Mart. It is like buy your things and get out! The cashiers ignore the customers, and some of them seem like they have been dragged to work! In addition to this, it is one of the most expensive store in El Cajon. They should change the name of the store from (Food 4 Less to Food for MORE)! Everything in this grocery store is awful, the cashiers, the food price, and the managements! Food 4 Less is a Kroger store and has good prices on every day items. They have a pretty amazing selection of frozen juice cans--much better (and cheaper) than Ralphs, Vons, etc. I had a bad experience with cream cheese (it was liquid-y) so I've decided I prefer Food 4 Less for my dried goods (Kroger brand is the same as Ralph's brand and actually not bad) and the occasional frozen item. It's the closest thing San Diego has to Super Walmart, which I'm ashamed to admit I miss dearly, but I have so many grocery stores closer to me that it's just not worth the drive most of the time. read more

This is the closest grocery store to us with the best prices. We can usually find great produce and low prices on meat products. What I don't like is that there is not enough handicapped parking available. I called the manager about it and he said I wasn't the first one to complain about it, but it's obvious they won't do anything about it. read more

I only come to this food4less because in the one closer to home, it's very annoying to see all the trash everywhere it's sad. if the store don't have enough employs to clean up outside they should hire a ground keeper. The store really needs one. I feel sad for the employs too it seem like the are over worked. This place is a beast So I only go when I have plenty of energy and have braced myself for it. First of all, you have to wade through the panhandlers who actually walk up to your car. Once inside there are some good items. I love the discounted, bulk size toiletries at the door. And the giant discount bakery has some good finds. The store is huge and I usually run out of steam half way through. I never use the restroom. And yes there are expired items. And a lot of things which really aren't any kind of a deal. Worst of all, are the other shoppers, zero manners. And try dealing with those types while you are trying to pay for your groceries while bagging them at the same time. Fun. For example, upon paying for my items and following the line patiently out the door with everyone else, from behind the line comes some tool pushing through everyone else saying "excuse please" repeatedly. Yes excuse you, why can't you wait in line like everyone else? I don't know if there is anything at this store that is worth tolerating all this for again. read more

. In el cajon location, it is too crowded. Parking is crowded but you will always able to find empty space, not to worry. Cashiers are average good but long lines. Store is also crowded as well. Never missed to read their weekly flyer, they would offer you groceries in affordable prices. I remember the one of security guard, he is quite elderly but friendly. Worst place for produce!!!! First of all there was no produce selection. Stated getting produce and noticed gnats flying around!!! After looking closely notice some white stuff crawling in the peel of a tomatillo!!! I told a guy that was fixing the avocados that the tomatillos had maggots!!!! He went over looked around and said we'll check closely later!!! He told this other guy and just didn't even bother going over to look!!! After looking closely to other guitar and veggies that we needed many had already went bad and didn't even bother taking them out!!!! Walked in tonight had a full grocery cart, ready to check out and guess what, one cashier on the main line and 3 cashier for the express. There were about 20+ people waiting on the main line and the cashier was overwhelmed. I asked if they were going to open another line, the cashier at the express line told me....we don't have any cashiers available. I told him to take one of the cashiers from the express, they should have 3 main line and 1 express. Come on Food for less.....THINK! I left and they have a lot of groceries to put back. read more

Whenever we go shopping I make sure we go through Trents line, if he is working. He's super nice and we always enjoy talking to him. This grocery store is not in the greatest neighborhood, but I have yet to feel unsafe going there. Pros: -Prices are GREAT compared to all of the other grocery stores I have been to around East County. Same products as Ralphs (the Kroger brand) with much lower prices. -The store's aisles are wide, so you can get around pretty easily. -You get to bag your own groceries (Some people may see this as a con. I actually like to bag my own so that fruit doesn't end up getting put next to raw chicken or something and my bread doesn't get squished). -Clerks are usually friendly and they don't seem to get irritated with coupons like the clerks that would when I lived in the North County area. -There are no granola snobs here looking for gluten free cookies Cons: -This place gets EXTREMELY busy. I like to park in the very back of the parking lot to avoid some of the craziness. I noticed that the produce section often has a lot of water spills, so be careful in that area. So my sister and brother decided to order a cake from here for their graduation party. Well when my sister ordered the cake she told the lady she wanted half of the cake her school colors and the other half my brothers colors, simple right? I guess not. When she wrote it down she wrote the colors on the opposite sides so my brothers name had my sisters colors and my sisters name had my brothers colors. She told the lady, who gave her attitude, that she wrote it wrong and she drew arrows and said she got it. Despite her rudeness my sister still decided to go through with the order. Well the day of the party the cake was suppose to be ready for pick up at 1. My sister and I came in at 12:45 and was told the cake is not ready the lady is at lunch. Umm okay? So we left and told our cousins to come pick it up. Well they picked it up around 2-2:30 they sent us a picture of the cake when they got it. It was wrong. The colors were still messed and they didn't put any black ribbon. Well when we got the picture of the cake we were obviously upset so we left our own party to go to food for less and have the lady fix our cake. When we got there we had her just switch the names around so that would be easier right? Well after the names we told her about the black ribbon and she said they don't have anymore. We ordered this cake a few days ago don't you think they would have put black ribbon aside for the cake. They lady whose name was Maria (yes I made sure I got her name) was super rude and disrespectful all because we were correcting her mistakes which by the way every single thing we were telling her was on the piece of paper that had the order what was the point of it if she wasn't going to look at it. Since she was being rude and giving us attitude i am obviously going to be rude back. So after like 30 minutes of her not getting it right she FINALLY got it. So I asked her if we could get a discount or something because that was just ridiculous and the other lady who was with her called the manager over the speaker and then walked away somewhere hmm where'd she go? so we were waiting and waiting until I got frustrated like we have our own party to be at so I went up the front and asked for the manager it turns out the man I asked was the manager, his name was Doug and I told him the situation and he kindly told me to come to his register and he would take care of it. So I went back to get my sister and the cake well when I returned there was a man standing there and said he was the manager and that customers are coming up to him telling him that my sister, me and my cousins are being rude to his cake people. Remember when I said where'd that other cake lady go...I know exactly where she went. There were no customers complaining cuz all of the customers around could see that Maria the cake lady was being rude first so that means the other cake lady went and found the so called "manager" and told him whatever she made up in her head and he came. So when he said he was the manager I obviously told him I just spoke with the manager who are you. And he said I am the manager I don't know who you talked to. Then he went back to the whole customers supposedly complaining and I told him if your cake people are going to be rude I'm going to be rude back. And by the way his name was Fabian I read his name tag and it said ASSISTANT manager he lied he was NOT the manager what kind of ASSISTANT manager lies to his customers and Pretends he's the actual manager. Also the moment his mouth opened every single thing that came out of it was super rude and disrespectful. Well anyways I'll continue with what happened. After I told him the whole im going to be rude back thing my sister was obviously feeling the tension so she told him nicely the whole situation and what happened and he said he'll check the cameras to see if his employees were being rude and we told him to go ahead you could clearly see them being rude with their hand gestures and everything. And my sister told him we've never had this problem here like we like your cakes and stuff but this might be our last time coming here and his reply was "we'll it's up to you you can go somewhere else." The what the fuck who says that especially the ASSISTANT manager like who tell their customers to go somewhere else what he should have done is tried working with us to keep us as customers. Well after all that I was like okay well can we get a discount we're literally missing our own party and his reply was "we don't give discounts on cakes" so I was like alright and we left him I went back to Doug the actual manager and RIGHT AWAY he gave us 50% off of the cake. So the cake went from a $25 cake to a $12 cake. I really appreciated it. This place is really eh... Their produce is not always good it's hit or miss. The selection for certain products just sucks... Not enough selection for meat whatsoever. And it's always packed and if you need assistance from someone who works here forget about it. The staff flees like roaches the second they see you walking up to them. Also bagging your own groceries is really a pain with the two sided conveyor belt. You can't even start bagging if one person is in front of you and the cashier just starts scanning anyway. Food4less is the lowest priced super market of the big markets. This one is good. I prefer the Santee one which seems less crowded. I've been here about 40 times with nothing crawling anywhere. I wish they had the handi-wipe at the door. Any big market open till 1 am is doin' somethin' right. Bread is the best price in town. The deli rye is great. When I leave a F4L my bill is always lower overall than it would have been buying the same stuff at Vons, Ralphs or Albertson's. read more
