I have been making my signature Pineapple Upside Down Cake for over 40 years and I ran out of Maraschino Cherries, so I jumped in the car and went to VONS and grabbed a jar of Signature, Select Maraschino Cherries, because I was in a hurry and did not have time to look for my regular brand. I recently ordered a cake for my husbands 50th and it was a huge hit! I also ordered a cake for my daughter's birthday and Teddy took my order. There's a reason that this store averages 2.5 stars. It is well-deserved. The management team at this store should be embarrassed/ashamed. Today (2/17/26) at 10:15 AM I wanted to purchase products from the deli in the store. The person serving customers was totally incompetent and didn't know how to use the scales or registers. The other three employees in the deli were socializing among themselves. There was a line of customers waiting and no concern whatsoever by any of the employees. If there is a manager of the deli, he/she should be moved back to their last competent role of stocking shelves at night or terminated for cause. read more

We selected one and then looked for some other items on our list. After not finding several of them, we gave up and just bought our roast. Went in to the Santee Vons at 7:00 this morning to get some baked goods for a middle school class party. I was shocked to see the bakery section this way. I don't normally shop here anymore so I'm not sure if this is the norm, but regardless this is unacceptable! Disgusting! (Zoom in to get a good look) It looks like it hasn't been cleaned in a month and this is where they put the fresh baked goods!?!?! Yuck! To top it off they had absolutely zero holiday treats (or ANY sweet treats to choose from) and had to settle for some mediocre overpriced cookies. I'd honestly be embarrassed to be working in the bakery with it being this nasty. If it's this dirty out in the public eye where fresh food is, what does the back look like where they're doing all the baking??? The HEALTH DEPARTMENT needs to give them a visit ASAP!! read more

I've been getting this combo meal from deli department from Vons for a while now, today all of a sudden I see the lady put me the smallest side salad I've seen in a while. I wouldn't be leaving this review but I brought it up and said hey what is this? There's nothing there. She said we're supposed to only put 3 ounces of salad. I said well it shows 4 ounces on what combo meal says and that's not even what it looks like. she said pretty much out of her hand and if I really wanted, she said she can weigh it out for me while there was people waiting behind me. I said no thank you and bought a half a pound of the side salad myself. Again, I would not be leaving this review as I gave them a chance to fix it, but she did not care at all even though they see me almost every other day there. I showed the lady at the scanning kiosk, and she said that is completely absurd and said she would let the management know. Again it's something as simple as a little bit of a side salad but it's just the way it was handled as if it doesn't really matter. Anyways, I hope they clean up their customer service. read more

I had stopped in Santee to visit a friend in a nursing facility on my way back to Vegas where I live. I stopped to get gas at Costco, Wendy's to get something to eat, and some cash at Vons that was located in the same shopping center. I've never used my debit card to get money back and that's why I bought something to get money back. I asked the cashier prior to me coming up to be rung up if I could get cash back using my debit card. She gave me this look like wait your turn. I told her I just wanted to know because I don't need to buy anything if I cannot get money. So she waited until it was my turn and then said yes you will be able to get money back. She rang me up and said put my phone number in. I asked her did the number go thru (I have 2 numbers) but she gave me another dirty look then I asked her how do I get the cash back she said did you put your card in yet I said no so I held my card up to the to the POS and it went through. She said i was supposed to insert the card in the POS if I wanted cash back. I told her I didn't know that. But the sale had went through without cash back. She said go use the ATM machine in the store which cost me $3.50. read more

Aside from the well known wild parking lot & crowded aisles & area to line up for checkout, I had the worst experience ever in self checkout on Feb 15, 26. Surprised to see 2 regular checkout lanes open but the customers had loaded carts. So i went to self check checkout where I experienced the machine stop twice, saying the employee needed to check. Eventually someone came over. I explained that it was working fine then suddenly stopped. She replied that 'it's just doing its job, watching us'. She pulled up video and watched, then rewatched, the 2 times it had stopped. She also commented, 'what are you doing here, whats in the bag'. Her tone was suspicious & accusatory. What she was commenting about was my scanning bar codes on produce thats inside a produce bag & requires pulling it out/ pushing bag away to scan code. So what she really meant about the machines job watching us, was really watching me. She didn't make any further comment about this being no problem. I left insulted and will avoid this store. My family in the area also decided never to return. If this location has a high theft problem & sketchy customers, then I'm better off going elsewhere. read more

6/1/24 - The most terrible customer service I've ever had. I asked a cashier I can't locate hollandaise sauce. He said easy. Located in aisle 15 or 16. I asked which aisle and where. He stated in one of the aisles. Wasted 10 minutes looking. I then asked 2 other employees where it was, the second person was clueless and last person, the 3rd employee, said they think aisle 15. I asked can someone go get 1 for me? No one helped me. I left for Albertsons and I went to customer service. I asked for someone to go get me what I couldn't get help with at Vons. Albertsons grabbed what I needed. I will NEVER go to Vons in Santee again and will drive to Albertsons. I would give this Vons location negative stars if possible. I hope your service experience is far better than what just happened with me this morning. read more

Scanned digital coupons but they didn't work. Just went in to get help with my bill and was told customer service was closed. Asked someone else for a manager and was referred back to clerk who is saying customer service is closed. NO Customer service here. It used to be worth the extra drive to go to Santee Vons over the smaller, but similar Lakeside Albertsons but not anymore. The deli has gotten worse over time and MNGT just can't seem to keep anyone or get them to show up after hiring them. Friday at 4 pm and checkout lines running 20 minutes plus with apparently new checkers and they go and close one of the only 3 lines. After 20 mins in line and little progress I went to self checkout but won't be going back for a while. Maybe mngt can get some better employees and even KEEp them. Apparently 5 checkers all called out on a Friday. MNGT say BYE!! Maybe help mngt get caught up on hiring and training some better people by going somewhere else. I will. read more

Welp 2 1/2 stars seems a little harsh because I have been to much sketchier Vons but I'll share my opinion. Everything is on the higher price but they typically have a healthy stock of items (pre corona). The way to shop here is to download the VONS app and use the section "shop for U". You add the deals you like in the app and then at checkout when you type your Vons clubcard number, it will auto discount all of the deals you selected. The service is horrendously slow, they never have enough cashiers and it has been even worse with corona. Self checkout lines are shorter but the machines always have a problem (mostly mechanical) and you have to wait forever for an assistant. Flowers are overpriced/selection is so/so. I wish they were closer to Trader Joe's prices as I like to buy flowers weekly. So in conclusion: Not the worst Vons ever, but terribly slow check out (so bring your patience) and clip your coupons if you must shop here. It is generally clean looking/feeling and organized well. read more

Racist workers and customers. I went to grab some crab legs and someone overheard me and bought all the crab legs before I could even get any. I was first in line but after standing in front of the case for over 5 mins I went looking for one of the 3 meat guys working the counter who ignored me. When I left someone who overheard me got service right away and bought all of the crab legs in the case...... and thought maybe someone had same idea as me, but was being followed around the store by employee whispering and staring at me. I just left my cart and walked out, yes I know what part of town I'm in, especially with a Donald Trump person selling merch in front of the store but I had just came to get crab because Costco didn't.... On Christmas Eve I purchased a bunch of $20 Visa gift cards to give out to people and some other groceries. I usually give gifts or money and not Visa Cards so had no clue of fees After paying I found out two things each card cost me not $20 but $26.95 which is roughly an additional 35%. When I told the cashier I wanted my money back. I was also informed they could not refund my money even though I was still at the register. Even when the manager pointed to the fine print I could not read it. As an ethical business practice, the cashier should inform the customer of the high charge and that it could not be refunded. read more

I do not live near here, so I do not go here often, but I had business in the area and decided to venture in once more, my experience before that had been disheartening. So hubby and I went in to get our supplies. This place is dark, has the worst energy and the rudest employees I have ever encountered. This store has deteriorated since the changes last fall. A lot of products are no longer stocked. Since everything was moved, I have trouble finding merchandise. So do the clerks when I ask for help. Now they are playing games. Last week they had A&W root beer in 2 liter bottles for $1.00 each if I bought 10 bottles. When I got to the aisle, there were only two bottles left. I asked a clerk if there were more in the back room, she checked, they were all out. This was on Wednesday. The next week they had Mug root beer, same deal. I went in on Tuesday. This time there were four bottles on the shelf. Asked again for someone to check, no luck. All out. I think they're advertising extremely great deals to get people in the store, deliberately not stocking enough, thinking the customer will still do the rest of their shopping as long as they are in the store. I only had three items in my cart. I paid for them and left. Drove to another store to get the rest of the items on my list. I'll still shop there when I only need one or two things, because they're close to my home. But I won't go there if I have a long list, and I'm ignoring their ads from now on. read more

My wife tried to order a cake tonight 11/2/22 for a wedding shower party we are having for our daughter on 11/5/22 and the girl in the phone told her that they aren't taking any more orders for this weekend due to short staffing. Now we have to order a cake from Costco in Santee and they don't offer the whipped cream frosting that we prefer. First time we went in at night and the girl that works late said that they need a 48 hour notice; Very frustrated as we were told that there was no such thing as a 24 hour notice, etc when it comes to any catering that Albertsons/Vons does when I worked for the company. read more

I'm from out of town & my family lives close to Vons. Albeit Vons is not my go to grocery store, whenever I shop at the stores nearby, there's always that one ingredient or item I need & can't locate so I head over to Vons & without disappointing, they always 100% have had the item I couldn't find elsewhere. The store is always upkept, stocked & clean. I especially love how they give every opportunity for anyone to find employment there. Cashiers/clerks are very knowledgeable, quick & friendly.
