DON'T COME AT ME, BUT I KINDA LOVE IT! This Food4Less always gets a bad reputation since it's in downtown San Bernardino and in a low-income area. HOWEVER, it's got ALL the groceries I need when I need them! I mean, when do you ever find wheat PB&J sandwiches from Smuckers at Stater Bros? I even found some cool sandwiches with honey in them! I always stop by here before a 66ers game down the street to stock up on game-day snacks and items. The lines are quickly tended to, I've never waited more than 8 mins in line! I'm literally in and out of this store. The staff is decent, but they could use a raise (some are a little bitter and burnt out). I've spotted plenty of security and parking. Overall, this store is very spacious and clean. I love the little Polar Bear cutout inside, it's charming and definitely fills my heart with joy. read more

Solid Food4Less with great stock, good produce and an easy layout. Located off 2nd Street (between E Street and F Street) in a massive parking lot near plenty of local chain staples (Starbucks, McDonald's and more), not to mention in a shared lot with Ross Dress for Less and Chevron. Everything is easy to find and this location seems to always be thumping. I stopped in for some hydration (water, powerade zero) and grab and go food (nuts, fruit). I was greeted when I walked in! Customers seem nice, this one guy looked me up and down and said the craziest line to me (not repeating that) followed by, "Where you going looking that good, like that...With me?"... I had to politely exit as he apologized for being next level beyond parched aka thirsty. Traffic can be busy on certain days in the area it's just the San Berdoo/SB/San Bernardino way, but was smooth sailing getting here as well as in and out. I checked out at the last register and the clerk who rang me up was personable, but she also coughed in my direction as she was about to start ringing me up twice. People cough, but this was definitely a long day or on coming cold (that time of year) kind of collection... I sanitized up bagged me groceries (part of the Food4Less experience) coming down the left or right conveyor belt - used to love doing that as a kid when parents would pay). Security was cool, but very stoic - encountered what I would deem color characters outside. Definitely a solid F4L for grocery needs of all sorts + the best deals! read more

I use to like this store but the parking lot situation has always bothered me big time! I tried ignoring it many times but slowly I stopped coming. The parking lot is not safe! Lots of homeless and other people who are not utilizing the supermarkets or stores around the area. Just using the parking lot to do whatever! Not a good place to park because security isn't watching the parking lot! The security for Food 4 Less sucks big time they don't do anything about it! They're clueless completely clueless! I've been a Food 4 Less customer for over 35 years and I've supported the Food 4 Less establishment on 2nd Street in San Bernardino 10 of those 35 years... today I went to the checkout line to purchase items after waiting and was stared down, talked disrespectfully to and refused service by the cashier due to her personal differences, and A prior personal verbal disagreement that has nothing to do with the Kroger Ralphs or Food 4 Less establishments.. Her being a cashier doesn't give her the right to refuse anyone service because of her personal reasons or feelings.. after her refusal to check me out the supervisor asked what was the problem? upon trying to explain the situation she was so disruptive and interfering that she would not allow me to tell him what the problem was, she just kept yelling and using profanity and refused to service me... I then looked at him after about the fifth Interruption and I said, " do you see what's going on? This is what I've been dealing with imagine how she was acting prior to you coming " he gave her a direct order telling her to let him check me out and to step to the side... she then looked at him and asked him, "are you serious?" He repeated himself telling her the step to the side and she told him verbatim" she wasn't going anywhere.." I then looked at him and I said, "See if she does you like this in front of customers, imagine how she treated me before you got here...what you saw wasn't nothing.... he looked at her and he asked her again to remove herself so I can be checked out she challenged him and told him if she moved she was going home.. he then conceded and told me that he would check me out at check stand number 2... I told him as a customer I didn't feel I should have to tolerate the disrespect of his employee and I shouldn't have to move anywhere if anything she needs to clock out and go home I am a paying customer who hasn't done anything wrong and don't deserve to be berated or disrespected by their employee especially in front of customers he then asked me again saying that he was trying to resolve this situation to which I understood and I noticed his willingness to serve me so I went to check stand number two with help grabbing my items and I checked out.. what I didn't appreciate is the supervisor allowed the young lady to challenge him and not stand his ground and support the customer... I am confident the way she talked to him and challenged him that they are very familiar and possibly share a friendship therefore I don't believe that this complaint will go far which is why I am calling corporate this young lady apparently feels entitled and feels that she is more important than the customer because she had no fear of being unprofessional and refusing me Service as if she was the owner of the Kroger food chain.. the manager looked at me and said she was allowed to refuse me service to which I told him she is not.. especially if there was no wrong doing on my behalf...once he told me she had the right to refuse my service I lost all faith in his supervisory status and way of handling the situation.. I feel food for Less should re train these staff and supervisors... I'm confident to say that had this been in a different community the staff would be a lot more professional and better serving the problem is Food 4 Less is desperate and short of professional employees so this is what the public has to deal with.. people of that Community are the people that services and people of that community bring the mannerism of the community into their jobs to which we are underserved and it puts a bad look on the Kroger Ralphs and Food 4 Less brand... read more

I can usually get in and out of here no problem. However, I recently had a VERY bad experience in line. I was ready to check out, when suddenly the floor began to shake. Something was wrong. VERY wrong. Suddenly, some BEHEMOTH of a guy cut infront of me! His gravitational pull almost DESTROYED my groceries! The walls of candy started to tremble, and the floor began to flex. If it wasn't for my cart, I might've been sucked in too! I had never been this afraid in my life. Not acceptable! I thought my twinkies were gone for good! I could hear my tortillas begin to cry. I could barely see around his massive belly rolls, but it was clear he cut infront of me to harass this poor lady. By the time the supervisor came, his demeanor changed immediately. He suddenly started to play inncoent, like he hadn't just went out of his way to act a fool! I admire the way the supervisor was able to resolve the situation. It was a true David and Goliath situation. The cashier seemed upset, and understandably so, but the supervisor was able to take him to his register. It took security a long time to move the massive pile of food required to satisfy his light snack, after he refused to move it himself. Perhaps it would've gone by faster if they had access to an industrial dump truck! Even then, I'm not sure all the diesel in the world could move his great hunger in one trip! There was enough food to keep Kroger in business for the next 40 years. I truly don't believe Moses could have split this ocean of groceries. I was in absolute DISBELIEF. What ever happened to shame? In the end, all the snickers can rest easy knowing they won't be subject to the dark mass that resides within the depths of that monster. You truly, are not you when you are hungry. I pray no path I take in life leads me to this despicable demise. read more

I like the Food 4 Less near my job alright. It's not my normal grocery store, but when I need to pick up stuff for work, it's convenient and I hate the Stater Bros that is the other closest store. I'm not a fan of the whole Food 4 Less dynamic with the warehouse feel and bag your own groceries thing, but I am a fan of the low low prices. I can usually find what I want. which is the most important part of it all. On this last visit, I had drama, though. When I got to work with my newly purchased cheese slicer and cheese, everything went downhill. The wire on the cheese slicer immediately snapped as I tried to slice my first piece of cheese so I had to go track down a knife and the cheese itself was crumbly, an indication that at some point it had been frozen. I was pretty cranky about it as i was hungry and wanted my cheese sandwich, but hey, I had to start work, so I just ate the crumbly cheese. At lunch, however, I took that mess back to Food 4 Less and the best part was that they didn't even question me, just did the return and handed me the cash. So, I was happy with that... but of course, I had no cheese. Overall, this is a decent store with great prices and relatively helpful staff. It ain't fancy, but it gets the job done. How can they get five stars? Well, they just can't. It's the way of things. read more

This place gets a bad rap because of the area. Inside, well, it's not fancy or pretty...there's no pretty shiny tile on the floors, for example...but frankly I don't worry about such things when buying groceries. Outside, it is beyond ghetto. You'll be hit up for "spare change" coming and going, and you'll feel the entire justified urge to triple-check your car to make sure it's locked and everything inside is hidden. They know this, which is why they have a full time guard, and a designated entrance and exit. Ok, that is the bad stuff. So why four stars? First, the people...the folks working there are always, and I mean ALWAYS friendly and helpful. I've been there on holidays, on Fridays, when they're busy, slow, all times, and they always have an authentic smile and a friendly attitude. Remember, the bad stuff described above? They deal with that all day, every day. Yet they are still the nicest people you'll ever meet. They're always stocking shelves and tidying up the store, and they're always happy to help folks find things. The prices are typically very good there. Once in a while I'll see something cheaper elsewhere, but I can do 80% of my shopping here and know I'm saving money...without those stupid club card things. This place is clean, too, at least on the inside. That can't be easy, but they pull it off. Say what you want about the area and exterior, but the employees and managers there deserve a pat on the back, at least, for their hard work and awesome attitude. read more

I swear every time I come in this store to get exactly what I want and leave, there is always an issue going on at the checkout lane. With so few customers and plenty of staff there is typically only one checkout lane open. So for instance, when someone has an issue with their payment or a price check is needed (this ALWAYS happens due to the area this store is located in), the one line gets backed up and a quick 5 minute run in/run out visit turns into a 15 minute visit. It's super annoying. When you see the line back up...open another one so I can get to work on time! Duh! read more

I've been coming to this location off and on over the years , lately more often, about every other week and the name and location says it all so you know what to expect, Ghetto low budget grocery shopping. What I don't expect is that almost every time I come to this store, their special security shopping cart locks up on my way out while an alarm sounds as if I'm running out of this ghetto store with groceries that I just paid for and bagged myself. Even the security guard also a person of color comments that the store is "wrong for this" as he walks over to use a scanner to unlock my shopping cart so I can proceed to my car. This is almost like a stop and frisk. I don't know if this is random or if only certain people of color are targeted but this reoccurrence is starting to make me question whether I want to shop at this store or any other Kroger owned business. visited my local food 4 less today because I seen an advertisement on hot shot bug spray. I spent half an hour inside the store picking out coupons. I wanted to purchase 72 bottles. when I got to the front I was very rudely told I could only buy 24. after I said there is no sign that says there is a limit, I was rudely told that I could shop somewhere else. so I asked for the manager and he rudely showed me a sign that says "we have the right to refuse service to anybody" I argued with them for a long time and ended up not purchasing anything. I was given very dirty looks by the manager and cashier as i left. I called up corporate and they are investigating the case. If there is no sign posting a limit then there shouldn't have been a problem. All I'm saying is i don't appreciate my time being waisted on false advertisement. read more
