It took me a while to try this store out because discounted food stores in my experience have crappy products. This location wasn't bad. I found everything I needed for the most part and spent a bit more than I do at WinCo...Overall I think I'll continue driving to San Marcos to shop at WinCo but in a bind, Food 4 Less isn't terrible. The cashiers and management however in my experience today were a joke. My cashier was laughing and talking with her coworkers while checking everyone out, several times she would stop and turn around to carry on her conversation when she should've been scanning items. She then turned off her light on her own without asking management because she needed to use the restroom. Another shopper came to her line and she rudely told her that she was closed but she could go to a different line, even that shopper told her to "lose her attitude". When I was bagging my groceries, the manager came to the neighboring cashier to goof off and overhearing their conversation was comical. They don't take their jobs seriously, no professionalism, at least with the front end. read more

I stopped here to pick up a few items as I was in the area. The store appeared clean and organized and prices were competitive. This supermarket seems to appeal to mostly Hispanic shoppers. All of the announcements were in Spanish. I thought we were in the USA. Check out took a while. This supermarket is not for me. read more

The title says it all. Food 4 Less. They have the most inexpensive items this side of Wal-mart. I'd rather go to Sprouts or Frazier Farms for produce, although I will also get some here. My favorite grocery store here. You can buy your groceries as cheaply as possible without sacrificing quality. And you can eat as naturally as possible without being all Whole Foods about it. This chain is owned by Kroger, which also owns Ralph's. Almost everything is cheaper here than any other store, including Walmart, with very few exceptions. The quality of meat, seafood, produce, and other fresh items are surprisingly very high as well, and they have organic options. The store is organized pretty well and it often lists its prices versus competitors' prices, which is great. Its prices are low with or without a sale, but when the items are on sale, the deals are shockingly good. The Kroger brand (generic) is fantastic and in 100% of the products I have tried, it has tasted the same as the brand name equivalent. They also have a generic organic brand called Simple Truth, which is REALLY good. The Food Network buys this brand for its cooking shows -- always a good sign. Food 4 Less is one of the only stores that are open late, and the cashier lines are comparable to those at more expensive stores. You do have to bag your own groceries, which I prefer anyway. Sure, sometimes, there are some characters in the store -- low prices attract all sorts of people. But whether you are looking for great grocery deals or you are only eating fresh, organic food, this store is for you. read more

Ive never shopped at a Food 4 Less until 6 months ago and ever since I cant ever not be seen here lol. They have everything you can possibly think of minus clothes. The name of the store lives up to its name and the neat part is they compare prices to other big retailers on most of their item. Alcohol and affordable prices (Check!) Great candy selection (Check!) This store is awful and it is not cheaper. To go there, one would assume that, because of the ugly decor, lake of selection, and lousy service, you must be saving a lot of money. But no, it's just as expensive as any regular grocery store. For the same prices, you get very limited selection of items, you have to wait in a long line and you have to bag your own groceries. The owner of this store must be making a fortune selling food for regular prices but hiring only minimal staff. What a rip off. I'm very good at remembering the prices of groceries and this is not cheaper. If you want to pay that much, go to Ralph's and get good service. If you want to pay less, go to Winco and get great prices. But there's just no reason to shop at food for less. read more

I try to avoid shopping here if I can, but every once in a while there is a deal that I just can't pass up. The prices are slightly cheaper that other grocery stores in the area and you realize why as soon as you walk into the store. They pass the savings on to you by having few check stands open, few employees to be seen, no one to bag your groceries and there isn't even linoleum on the floor. Maybe they are going for the warehouse vibe or some kind of factory direct store. They even save money on the name of their company (spelling out FOR would have cost them millions in signs and printed advertisements). If it weren't for the express check stand I would never get out of this store. People tend to buy A LOT of groceries here which causes quite the lines with the two checkers and self-bagging. The only reasons I am giving them three stars is you get what you pay for and they are open late for those late night beer runs. read more

I don't often shop at Food 4 Less only because I don't have a location close to my home. However, they have great deals and they're often much cheaper than Walmart on a number of items. You really have to check out their weekly deals to truly take advantage of any discounted items, too. My reason for only giving this location 2 stars are for the times when I've come here, the staff weren't as friendly. One worker, Bobby, was very friendly and offered his help on both of my visits there. He was sweeping and cleaning up one aisle and while he helped me, he was getting paged to assist at front. After I bagged my items, I saw him walking an older lady to her car and helping her load her items. But he was the ONLY staff I saw roaming around offering help and he was roaming around while sweeping. I saw two ladies standing around looking at the aisles and chatting. When the Bobby guy got paged, they joked, "You better hurry" and chuckled while they continued to chat. That left a bad taste in my mouth. The bathrooms are not very clean and my last visit was still fairly early in the morning and they didn't have toilet paper or seat covers and I had to wait for a worker to replace them. read more

I have shopped here and have been pleasantly surprised. The selection is quite large and the prices seem competitive or lower that other chains. I always shop here for my dog food as at $1.00 per can (large) it is much cheaper that competitors that charge up to $1.60/can or more. In addition, the selection of produce is impressive. Justin walks away, but the ever determined Blue Shirt Guy follows closely behind sticking the pickle jar in his face trying to get him to put money in it until he finally enters the store, ready to enjoy his shopping experience. END SCENE Once I actually get into the store, FOOD FOR LESS does have some cheap prices, especially on produce... but they really need to do something about the riff-raff in the parking lot. read more

Relatively clean store, lots of standard grocery items and a big bakery. You can't really find a lot of healthier brands, but on the plus side produce seems to be relatively cheap here (though I normally find myself at Sprouts or Frazier Farms for produce). Items seem to be a little cheaper, but other than the big deals of the week most don't seem significantly less expensive. With the exception of the spices/seasonings which you can find store brands for 99c. read more

Management is terrible. Store is filthy. Roaches everywhere. Employees can't comprehend basic sales, argue with you at the register, and are so incredibly lazy. I love this place. Cheap prices and the staff are always willing to help. I always come here if I want to act like a kid in a candy store. I love grocery shopping and I get a natural high every time I go shopping for food and daily essentials. LOL This place is huge, so if you have the time, you can probably find just about anything here. Whilst they do have some nice fresh produce, I would still get those things at Frazier Farms or Sprouts. This store usually has horrific customer service. Today was beyond disbelief. I needed simple help with an issue with something from yesterday. I went in around 6:30 am. The only person up front, a cashier, was rude and didn't want to help me. They called a couple people and finally Andy, apparently an overnight supervisor, came up and took about 10 seconds to look for an item I left at the store. He couldn't find it and asked who I spoke with the day before who told me the item was there. I didn't get a name and that meant I was lying. He was rude, unprofessional, and refused to give me the name of the general manager or a time to contact that person. He also walked away from me, a customer. It also didn't help that I'm I'll and Andy just exacerbated my condition, which he knew nothing about, which is the point. Always be kind and helpful to the customer. These are terrible times to be rude to paying customers. Won't return here and will be contacting corporate. read more

My favorite place to get produce. Im honestly giving this place a 5 stars because of one of the employees Martin who happened to be working produce when I went.Martin went above and beyond helping me out when I was in need of some help finding something I was trying to find something my mom put on a grocery list and had no idea what it was I didn't even pronounce it right but he figured it out a lot of people would have been like I don't know what that is and continued with their day. Worst place to shit I've ever been in, and I've been in an Afghani portopotty. Stall door had gaps big enough to peek through, paper dispenser was barely a foot off the floor, and the toilet seat felt like it was designed to make your legs fall asleep. While Food 4 Less doesn't have some of the healthier, high-end food that one would be able to purchase at Ralph's, Albertsons, Vons, and the like, it is open til 1am (used to be 24 hours!) and the prices are very reasonable. It is usually the cheapest in the Vista/Oceanside area for groceries. Selection of items seems to never really change, and items are either typical American grocery store items or Mexican-influenced. I usually go during the later hours, past midnight and the people there always seem laid-back and friendly. This grocery store is a decent store to go to. It is clean and has everything you would want from a grocery store. They have chloroseptic wipes for carts which is great cause no other store I've been to in the area has that. So many people go here during busy hours after work so around 4 to 6 and parking can be busy especially with people crossing, so be careful when pedestrians are crossing. They have a Wells Fargo bank inside the store which is convenient if you have a Wells Fargo account. I gave them a 4 because it is a nice store for the people around the area who want to buy food and items that are affordable. read more

Food 4 Less is awesome. Certain items are consistently cheaper than the other grocers nearby. You have to check out their weekly ads because they can have some insanely good deals on everything from shampoo to produce. I usually don't buy my meat here, because Stater Bros always has the best prices for steak, but then again, you have to look out for the deals! I can only give 3 stars because the registers can be a bit backed up at times and it's even more annoying when cashiers have to leave the register for liquor purchases. read more

I love this grocery store, but I just witnessed an employee named Mark be extremely rude to a couple employees who exchanged an EXTREMELY brief exchange of words as if they were off task (they weren't.) and told them to "get back to work" and made a belittling and dismissive gesture towards them when he had just entered into the situation (and was standing pretty far away). It was a cry of micromanagement at its finest. He did not speak to them with respect or poise. I feel outraged and disgusted to be honest - these were sweet, kind, HARD-WORKING women who had just helped me and been so kind to me. It's NOT OKAY to treat people like that, MARK. Shopped at the market today was very surprised at how poor their customer service is... not only is the parking lot filthy but they now lock up all of their liquor because They think every customer is a thief... I called the manager he told me they had to do something to stop their losses... Why don't they install a camera like everybody else does instead of treating every customer is if they're going to steal something... The store was down-graded last year or so and has gotten worse. They are catering to the Mexicans and providing almost expired food, food from Mexico, etc.. The produce seems to go bad very fast and the meat usually tastes old. The parking lot is always dirty and trashy. This is America! I should not be the sole minority in my local grocery store. Worst customer service from management I have ever experienced. Their responsibility for carts flying all over the parking lot is ridiculous. My vehicle as well as many of my customers' vehicles have been damaged by their shopping carts. They refuse to take any responsibility of damages done to vehicles from their cart. You can't tell a store by its exterior! This store is pretty much like shopping at a farmer's market (only less expensive, tho I love my farmers!). If you want to create a gourmet dish - this store has all kinds of produce (squash, chilis, spices) you might find elsewhere but for much more $$. I had ordered my baby shower cake from Shanika 2 days before the actual event and she guaranteed me that she could get it done exactly the way I wanted. I showed her a picture of the color and the design and she made it better than what I expected it. It was so beautiful and it tasted delicious. I am definitely getting all my cakes from there from now on! It was great pricing and Shanika also helped me out to the car with the cake. Bad customer services and none professional. So my mother and her bf were shopping like every other week and until August 25 between 4-5 pm a cashier ask for and ID for buying wine. It was strange since they always shop here and were never ask for an ID for buying any alcohol or wine. Plus there over 40 of age. They always buy one wine for there special occasions however, this one cashier didn't accept a Mexican foreign ID. They ask for the manager and the manager agreed with the cashier they don't Valid other foreign ID and only California ID then my moms bf said to them he has a California driver license but the manger denied it and didn't want see it. Then they ask for their birth certificate. So they came home without any wine and they felt discriminated just because they denied driver license and they wanted see there birth certificate. I meant write a review soon but I was hesitated if I should or not. I hope the manager and cashier are better train and less discriminated on others when shopping. read more

Can't even begin to explain how upset I am if there was a zero star option that's what this store would get! I wasshoppingfor some household items and because I don't have a car I take the city bus. And have my stuff in my back pack.. Well anyways this lady worker greets me as if she was friendly and I asked her a few questions talked about her day and as soon as I put some stuff in my cart she awkwardly walked away all fast. Thinking nothing of it I continued my shopping and Come to realize I didn't have any of my money on me but 4 or 5 dollars... Totally bummed out I had to put my stuff back and walked out.. The store is what it is expected to be, however the Wells Fargo branch is phenomenal! Small group of dedicated employees, representing the corporation at it's best! Personal welcomes, warm smiles, friendly service, and I'm not even a millionaire.....but i sure felt like one!! Jorge G. welcomed me to the branch, took care of my transactions and answered all my questions without hesitation, even managed to get me interested in a credit card with excellent incentives. Then I was transferred over to Citlaly M. who would take care of setting up the new account for me. Citlaly was amazing! Within minutes my new account was done, talk about a stress-free environment! Very professional, reassuring, and showed interest in my personal well being! Now that is service I never had anywhere else. Finally I was even able to speak with the branch manager Xiomara G. She was able to help me with an unfortunate situation with one of my accounts and had the incident resolved in a matter of minutes, no long phone calls and playing the wait around game with customer support call numbers. ahem.......(CHASE!)............This was by far the best customer service experience I have ever had!
