I had a really uncomfortable experience at this Food 4 Less due to an employee named Selena. While checking customers out, she was openly on the phone gossiping instead of focusing on her job. She would only pause to ask customers if they wanted bags or to state the total, then go right back to her personal conversation. Several customers, including myself, were literally just staring in disbelief because it was obvious she was not paying attention or taking her role seriously. What made it worse was that after noticing my reaction, she started signaling and talking to her coworker (short hair and glasses) about me, which felt incredibly rude and unprofessional. No customer should feel mocked or talked about while standing at the register. Customer service matters, and this was a really bad example of it. I hope management addresses phone use and professionalism at the checkout, because this experience was honestly embarrassing to witness. On top of that, the overall ambiance of this location is uncomfortable. There are often groups of homeless individuals lingering right outside, which already makes the atmosphere feel tense and unwelcoming. Wow, good prices. I stopped in for a bag of meatballs and walked out with $63 worth of junk food. Sale prices were to good to pass up on $13 12 pack of coke for $4.49. Cheeto puffs $2 a bag if you get 4. Buy one get one meatballs and BBQ sauce. Cookies half off. Perfect for Super Bowl. The store was well organized and clean. Staff was friendly and very helpful! Every time I come here Sanjiao is always there to greet me! she is so kind and always helps me with things and even helps me bag things. She provides the best service to her customers and is always hardworking compared to other employees. Because of that, my experiences here at food4less are something I look forward to and the shelves here are organized as well. Don't let the rough exterior of that parking lot prevent you from going into the store. The shelves every time I've gone in there in the past couple months are stocked and precise. You won't believe how nicely all of the shelves are kept. The produce is very good and their produce team is always warm and friendly and helpful. Prices are competitive. It would be so nice if the property owner would maintain that parking lot. The parking lot is very rough, and really discourages. I'm sure a lot of people from walking into that store. Food is good. Produce fresh and most other items are cheaper than other major grocery stores. I'll go anywhere else. Service is rude AF. If you don't know Spanish you may be confused that service doesn't match posted signs. Lanes that say people within a limit should appear will be tied down with people with full carts that appear like they are preparing for an apocalypse! I asked for clarification from staff. They seemed confused that I was asking even though I had three items in hand but EVERY open lane had people with full carts, packs of water, and cases of beer. Every lane including every one that limited item totals. I could be wrong but my skin tone and/or my appeared lack of understanding Spanish lead to disrespectful side comments in Spanish. Food4Less is the Kroger (think Ralph's in California or Smith's in Nevada) warehouse store. Prices are generally lower than those locally at Ralph's, but item variety is less. Produce is fresh. Meat cases tend to well stocked. Store decor is pretty basic. We stop at this Food4Less for the sale items when we're shopping in the area. Kroger gift cards are accepted, as are credit cards. You have to bag your own at checkout. read more

REALLY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE!! We accidentally went in express lane and we told the cashier that we could've move lanes she said "it was fine we can stay in that lane ". I shop here at least once a month and my experiences with the staff have been pleasant. They've always been helpful and very friendly during checkout. My problem is the long lines. It seems the store has a policy to only have 2 registers open when I go (just my luck). All the aisles look decent, organized and stocked. I've found what I needed everytime, but I've never gone looking for exotic things. The produce department is where they need some work. This section often looks like a hurricane came through and tossed all the vegetables around. It's a chaotic scene everytime, but I see that they always have some poor employee trying make order of the mess. I once saw staff losing the battle attempting to sweep away leaves, stray beans and a runaway lemon. It was a sad sight, but I give them credit. I came here a couple weeks ago to order my birthday cake and I wanted it to be like the birthday cake I had when I turned 4, and since I turned 24 I wanted it to be like a 20 year later challenge lol. Anyways, Shanika was so great at attending me. She so kind , caring and funny! I had a great conversation with her even after placing the order of my cake! She told me that the cake might now look exactly how I wanted it to be but that she will try and I love that about her! We even chatted about the Julian pies and suggested to put ice cream on top and also about universal studios! She told me that when I go to universal studios I should download the app and start on the rides at the bottom of the park and make my way up. Overall an AMAZING worker! 100/100! I came here to get two things, snd there's one line open with a line going to the end of the aisle. When I said something to a worker, they told me they don't have enough hours to give everyone. What?! How do you have a line like this ( keep in mind I was also told that it's been like this for the past 3 months) and not have money to give workers to work? I don't have a business management degree, but this doesn't seem right to me. You have workers non stop, and frustrated customers, because they can't figure out the obvious. Mind you, this was a holiday weekend and before 10pm, when they close at 12a. Aside from that, the meat and produce always seem to disappoint. The food isn't fresh. They have decent pricing. Doesn't have everything you'd need/find at a regular grocery store. Worst part about it if you go at night there's only ONE register open, with a line going down the aisle. I understand closing registers down for the night but this is ridiculous. I'm a frequent grocery shopper at other grocery stores but decided to give this store a chance. I came here on a Sunday so a lot of different products were missing (which is expected because i'm sure they usually restock Sunday nights) but I found everything relatively easy and got what I needed. I had over 15 items so I couldn't use the express lane and there weren't many lanes open to choose from (probably understaffed) but as I went up for my turn to checkout I was greeted by Jesus (last name started with an O, I can't remember the rest) and he asked me how my day was going and was smiling the entire time talking to me. Typically I don't get greeted by the friendliest cashiers but Jesus had such a positive outlook on life, knew answers to my questions about the store, and said he's been working here for 15 years which surprised me because I thought he'd be working in management right now. Workers like this are hard to come by, especially because a lot of people don't want to work these days. Since there's a "talent drought", I wouldn't be surprised if Jesus was asked by another company to work for them due to his experience. Honestly, i'm going to come back here just because of him. Every store has their own perks but not many have friendly employees like this one. He flipped my day around and I'll be coming back here just because of this experience. read more

The bad: Trying to pull into Food 4 Less inspires road rage. Having to navigate around people walking into and out of the store and the loose shopping carts doesn't add to the shopping experience. And despite the name the food is not less at Food 4 Less. You're actually paying more for some things. But the name calls and lures you like a siren. There are never enough registers open. Sometimes it's faster to drive to another grocery store to buy 1 thing than to wait in line at Food 4 Less. Pretty sad... The good: Huge parking lot so there's always a place to park. Being a vegetarian, I'd shop here more often but their sale prices on produce are not that great. Every week I check their online ad Tuesday night at 9pm for the new week's ads and very seldom do I find a sale produce item that is a good price so I go across the freeway to Frazier Farms where they have great sales on produce every week. This week, at Frazier Farms' super sale on Thursdays and Fridays, I'll get pineapples for $1, Young Tai Coconuts for $1, Three Organic beets for $1, and 24 ounces of NOW Whole Psyllium Husk for $4.99. Plus, they give me a 25% discount on everything when I purchase their gift cards every year. Food4Less has some work to do to catch up to Fraizer Farms. P.S. Food4Less had boneless skinless chicken legs for .99 cents that I bought for my dog and cat. It was the worst chicken I've ever had. It must have been low-quality glue meat (if you are not familiar with glue meat, google it). It was terribly full of lots of throw-away gristle. I'll never buy meat at Food4Less again. Fraizer Farms super sale last week had boneless skinless chicken breasts for $1.19 a lb. The quality was excellent and hardly any fat. P.P.S. WinCo just opened in Oceanside at El Camino Real. If Food4Less keeps running these horrible sale prices, I will keep shopping at WinCo and Fraizer Farms. Those are two great stores. P.P.P.S. I only buy sale items. I love this store . It's always stocked nicely with the things I want. I always buy the bigger packs of fruit from this place because it seems like every other store I go to like Target or Walmart are ALWAYS wiped out or have cruddy looking fruit. I am having REALLY bad stomach pains. No- i'm NOT pregnant. No- i'm NOT on my period. I blame that weird southwestern eggs benedict I had this morning. :( So, I need some pepto-bismol...and drive to Food 4 Less. --------------------- Food 4 Less is similar to Smart and Final- in that you can buy in bulk w/o a membership card. Hey ladies- check out their makeup line- everything is $1, and it's pretty good quality. (Wow, that was random) They also have Mexican bakery goods, and in this particular location, an impressive liquor aisle. Just watch out w/their produce- on a past visit I saw fruits w/obvious mold *bleh* ------------------------------ So as I'm standing in line w/my pepto-bismol, I hear someone say, "Hello. How are you doing today?" When I turn around, it's this older gentleman wearing a Food 4 Less smock, and his nametag reads "Jerry." I respond with a smile- "Fine, thank you" then turn back around. He repeats the question a couple mins later. I thought he was speaking to someone else, so don't respond. "It's ok...I'm used to talking to myself. It's what happens when you get as old as me..." I turn around, and realize there was no one else besides the two of us...and suddenly feel bad. So I try to pay attention. Would definitely not recommend working here. I'll admit I only worked here a day, it was the orientation/training day. So I admit I don't have the best grasp on what it's like to work here. But a day was all I needed to realize that I needed to run. While I was being trained, they said their motto was "no one gets off of work on time, no one goes to lunch on time, no one goes to break on time". Sounds like a VERY healthy work environment to me. The lady who trained me was extremely disrespectful and entitled, and also criticized me and my co-trainee's every move when were....wait for it....sweeping the floor. That's all we were doing, just sweeping, and yet she critiqued every little thing in an extremely mean and disrespectful tone. She even critiqued the way I was holding the sweeper, saying I was holding it "too high up" and moved my hand down no more than like 2 inches to "correct me". And that had literally no effect on how efficient I was able to sweep. She also got mad at me for not using the right "technique" when sweeping, even though it was literally my TRAINING day and the whole point was that I didn't know how to do anything yet. The whole point she was even there was to train me how to do it, yet she somehow expected me to just know? I can tell she simply thought me and my co-trainee were ignorant and offered us little respect because we were young. She was an older lady. She treated us like some ignorant children instead of co-workers. I realize she probably hates her life because she works at food for less for a living, but that's still not an excuse to treat a person you're training that way. The store is also extremely dirty and cleaning the bathrooms is disgusting. The men's bathroom consistently smelled horrid whenever I went into there, and we weren't even offered any masks, or anything to spray in there to help alleviate the smell. When I was in there, in the big stall some guy left a bunch of pieces toilet paper with his poop on it all over the floor and didn't flush either. And in the position I was being trained for, you're supposed to clean the bathrooms hourly. Nahhhh I'm good. You need a hazmat squad to do that, not some part time courtesy clerk making minimum wage. Yeah, don't work here. I get that it's retail, so I should have expected the staff to have shit attitudes and whatnot, but the bathroom situation? Nah, go find a job where you at least don't have to do that. read more

Sorry to hear about the previous people's experience below me, but my own was great. The store was, in fact, clean and organized when I went there this morning and considering where I previously shopped for food this place was far cheaper (which is why I am leaving them a review). It's a good day when you can save money, just saying lol. I got a decent amount of food and stayed within my budget. I haven't opened any of the meat I bought to check it for freshness but from pure observation, it looks fine. If it isn't though, I'll edit my review later. The prices are great, but you have to be careful. Make sure you smell the meats before you buy them. (Several times I've purchased chicken to find it is already rancid.) Packaged fruit is sometimes already rotten. Also, the items you might want are not always on the shelves, so don't arrive expecting to find everything on your list. I was in food for Less yesterday; someone had a mask on, that's # 1 no no; if she has to wear a mask, she is sick and should not be allowed in the store; everyone was staring at her, making other costumers nervous. I am trying to get a hold of the Manager; I was put on hold twice of 10 minutes wait. I believe that Food For Less should be more interested in their costumer's care; within and without being in the store. I've filled out the survey on the receipt from this store at least 20 times. The management calls me to apologize, and they've even given me a $25 gift card because of my repeated complaints. But nothing ever changes here. The produce looks like they picked up the produce in the dumpster at Vons. They are frequently out of stock on sale items, and the cashiers are clearly more interested in their own social lives than in the "Customers First" slogan they wear on their shirts. I am so thankful that WINCO is now closer. Their prices are as good--often better--than F4L, the stores are bigger and cleaner, and the employees are much, much more courteous. read more

I only had 5 items in my cart and when I approached the "15 item or Less" line the cashier was accepting customers with cart loads of groceries. I had a look of complete confusion only to glance over and see the cashier shrug his shoulders as if to say "oh well". There were 2 regular checkout lanes that opened thereafter only to find myself in line with an invisible cashier! I looked directly into the eyes of a male worker with a nametag and asked to please find the cashier and he said" Oh she's coming" and walked off. REALLY? It gets worse...the female cashier walks over to the checkstand and begins joking with me and laughing. What are these people doing? Getting high in the customer service office? No one seemed to act professionally and they look like carnival ride workers who don't give a care about customers nevertheless their job.
