They always have friendly staff. There's a redbox kiosk for your DVD fix. The prices are amazing. However sometimes the meat is not fresh. It hasn't happened recently but there were a few time I bought either fish or chicken and it was no-good. Now I am very diligent in inspecting the meat thoroughly. This location is by far 100% better than the location in Richmond. The shopping center that it is located is being remodeled giving it a better and fresher look. The store itself is pretty big. Always people here no matter what. However this particular store location is not open 24/7. I think the latest it is open is until 1am - I may be wrong. The employees here are pretty much like your average - nothing special. Parking is sometimes a hassle because the parking lot is shared with like a million other stores, but its not impossible to find a spot. Over all a good store. read more

I love shopping here because I go in pick up a ton of produce for cheap prices, and then pass by all the unnecessary aisles for a straight shot to the checkout line. I don't even mind bagging my own groceries. I do wish they offered a selection of organic fruits and veggies though. read more

This Foodmaxx has really gone down hill in recent months. The entrance door is often locked at all times of the day, even though there is no apparent reason for keeping it locked. Herding people entering the store through the exit door creates a log jam of people. You have to be on your toes when entering to avoid colliding with people and carts exiting the store. The lines are extremely long most of the time. The manager, name of "Christian" according to him, is unprofessional and rude. He says he is the manager, but you wouldn't know it because he wears his name badge clipped to his jeans front pocket, mostly hidden beneath his sloppy partially untucked shirt, not prominently displayed like the rest of the staff. What's he got to hide? Avoid this Foodmaxx location like the plague . read more

Surprisingly love this place! The fruit-- blueberries & raspberries especially-- are SO GOOD, and cheap! The only thing I don't feel comfortable buying is meat, only because it just feels right to pay a little more for meat. But everything else you can get on the low. read more

We shop here mostly on weekly or biweekly basis. Staff is very friendly and prices are very reasonable as compared to other large chain stores. We can find most of the things we need and rarely have to go to other foodmaxx in San Pablo. Overall a Good place to shop. read more

I've been here 5 times and all those times I've been there they only have 2 registers open with long lines and there's a lot of people waiting and just two cashiers open. They have 8 registers and they decide to always only have two open. I ask the employee if they can open another register and they choose to ignore me the first time the second time they were rude and said "I don't know I don't know I'm on break" bad customer service. I think the layout of this store is kind of weird ... it reminds me of Costco , Foods Co , Smart & Final , or some kind of warehouse . I like the layout of the San Pablo location more ... it's bigger , more spacious , and not as awkward . Like the San Pablo location , the produce isn't that great . This location has a larger selection of peppers than the San Pablo location . FoodMaxx has a decent selection and low prices . The San Pablo location is open 24 hours whereas this location is only open from 6AM to midnight . This location is alright but I still prefer the San Pablo location . read more

Definitely cheaper than other grocery stores in the are but they have very low quality foods. A lot if their produce and meat is imported, nothing is organic, and the packages foods are the same. I used to shop here all the time before I cleaned up my diet. But, in proud to say it's bee probably a good year since I've been. I just have no reason to go... Yeah they have good prices and if you want to stock up on boxed items or canned good thats ok. But the quality of their meat5 and produce sucks!!! I saw package of meat that looked gray and totally un appatizing, and the produce just looked kind of beat up. Maybe thats how they keep their prices low, by purchsing lower quality items. I'll still shop here for the basics, but will be heading down the sterrt to Lucky's for meat and produce. read more

Nice place to find cheaper grocery items. Has some more of the ethnic type foods that you can't always find at a Luckys or Safeway and their meat prices tend to be a bit lower which is nice. Just don't go their late at night and expect to be in and out super fast. My experience has always been that there is one really slow cashier on the night shift and you get to wait in line longer than if you had come during the day. Maybe just some weird oddity that only I get to enjoy when I go there late. read more

I shop at this store often becauce it closer to my house. Most of the employees are friendly and helpful excepted one employee name Patricia F, she was moody,rude, cold always had a hateful looks on her face and act likes she didn't want to be there,I can unsdertand that we do have some good and days but she was alway has the same attitutes and she makes the shopping experience un-pleasant,(several customers were waiting in line had same opinions. read more

This place has really long lines the store doesn't open enough lines or have an express lane (when I visited). But there were a lot of people letting others cut in line which I hated. I switched lines because of the line cutting and others were too. Unfortunately every time I switched lines, the cashier decided to take a nap and go really slow so I always got stuck in the longest line. Two hours to check out. read more

I just returned from shopping at FoodMaxx on Fitzgerald Dr in Pinole. Generally I like shopping there, however as I was checking out there was a young lady who had just checked out and had a dog in her cart that she was trying to settle down. The dog had no barrier between it and the basket where we put our food. No one bothered to say anything to her as she checked out that the dog does not belong where we put our food. I called the store to determine if it is their policy to allow dogs and the lady I spoke with said the checkers would normally say something or ask if they are service dogs and if not, they would be asked to leave. Of course, this is after they have finished shopping?????? We have so many people who are highly allergic to animals and their dander, not to mention what germs generate from the paws and other sit-down parts they contact the cart with, it is incomprehensible that they should be allowed where our food is. They can do what they choose at home, but the rest of the world should be guaranteed a safe and clean place to obtain our food. This store needs to train it's employees in hygene. If it is ok to eat food from a source where animals are allowed to sluff their dander and fecal residue from their feet and behinds, why are all employees cautioned to wash their hands after they use the restroom? read more

Shopped here last Saturday, June 30, 2013, cooler where the bacon was kept, broken, temperature gauge was at 65 degrees, (it was supposed to be 30 degrees or below). They continued to sell the meat. I went to buy some ice cream and checked the pull date, best if used by June 1, 2013... It was June 30th. I'm done!! read more

The employees are rude and unfriendly especially at night. They don't greet you at the register or thank you for shopping there. The employees stand in front of the doors on their breaks and most smoke and use profanity. After 10 pm they usually have one line open and you can wait up to 30 minutes. Their milk is never cold. They don't carry decent beer. The prices are really any cheaper than the closest Safeway. I try not to shop here if I can help it. read more

I shop here often because the prices are better than Safeway. There are some things you have to watch out for and be careful. The dairy department often has out of code yogurt and pudding on the shelves. Sometimes the code dates are short. Another Yelp review stated the cooler where the bacon is kept was not working correctly. I too have found the bacon or other coolers not working correctly. There are some good bargains if you know what items cost and what prices are elsewhere. Lately, I have noticed they have shortened the stand by the cash registers where the bagging takes place. I do not like this. You cannot place a paper bag, or other bag on the shorter shelf and expect to bag your items. Who ever thought this idea up is not really smart. They want you to use the plastic bags on the hanging racks to bag your groceries. Many people bring their own reusable bags, and bag in paper. Since this has been shortened, there is no place to set the reusable bag anymore. There are also items they do not sell here and you end up having to go to Lucky or Safeway anyway. read more

Food Max is a no frills type of Grocery store. Their point is to keep cost LOW, and give you a really good price on produce. They even have an indian food section. To maximize your shopping power, go to Food Maxx! Just don't go when you're hungry, because you will buy too much. read more

Their meat & produce prices are usually great. The store's layout is the worst of any chain(they are owned by Save Mart) I've ever seen. There is NO SIGNAGE at the end of the aisle directing you to what's in that aisle. If you're in the checkout line & realize you forgot an onion, you are forced to go ALL THE WAY AROUND the whole store, or start back at the front-entrance, to get whatever it was you forgot, provided that you can even FIND what is was you forgot. I mean, it's a warehouse-store & I like some of their prices but I buy alot of the same things cheaper at Walmart on Hilltop. Its supermarkets and warehouse stores operate under the Save Mart Supermarkets, S-Mart, Lucky, and FoodMaxx names. read more

They never have enough lanes open, the staff is very rude and one of the shift managers is not a very pleasant person, I had a bag of frozen veggies that I did not know were ripped and they told me that they did not have that brand, variety or size in stock so I asked if she could get me two smaller bags of the same variety and she did but threw the bags from 3 registers over and almost hit me and the cashier. I live the same distance from the one in pinole to the one in san pablo - I prefer pinole. Pinole still gives out bags, and has better customer service overall and you dont have to worry about people in the parking lot trying to rob you for loose change....... read more

I come to this store often to buy produce and juices. I usually don't check my reciepts but I checked my receipt this time about a month and half ago and the mango juice that was listed on sale for $2.49, I found out I was charged $2.79. I was in hurry and already by the door and left with out confronting them. Two weeks later I bought the same juce still listed for $2.49 when I got at the register they charged me $2.79 again. Without saying a word I left my cart and went to the back of the store and checked the price thingking I may have made a mistake. For sure it was listed for $2.49 and to make sure I didn't read a wrong label I asked the person who was working in the area if this juice is listed for $2.49. He confirmed the price and I went back to register, waited until the clerk who rung up my groceries is done with the customers and explained the issue she asked the other clerk I am not sure if she was a supervisor and they decided to refund me. Today I went there again and bought the same Nectar Mango juice for $2.49 and lo and behold I looked at the receipt befroe I leave the store guess what I was charged $2.79. I went back and explained and whithout a word they refunded me my $.30 no apology or I am sorry. It looks like it happens often. I don't know if they intentionaly do this or some programing issue but I don't like to stand there and memorize the price for every item I buy and plan on confronting them. When an item is listed for $2.49 I plan on paying $2.49. I don't know how many items I have been overcharged, it is not about the $0.30 but it is about misleading price Be aware. I will not come back. Poor customer service on top of misleading pricing. I have to give them one star because there is nothing lower than that. read more
