Writing a review on behalf of my mother who had a very poor experience. She walked into the market, and then left when she couldn't find what she was looking for, a male employee came running after her accusing her of theft and asking that she empty her bags. The next time she visited the store, the cashier didn't know how to process her food stamps so she called that same male over to help who simply yelled at my mother to get out of the store. If anyone knows of an attorney who handles cases like this, please let me know. I'd like to bring a lawsuit against Foodtown. read more

Food town is a small supermarket located in a residential area of Bayside, Queens. There is metered parking right outside in the front of the supermarket and the side street, and free parking one block away near the homes. This is your regular supermarket with sales on select items in their weekly circular. The supermarket is small but has all your necessities. The meat selection is pretty great, fresh, and well stocked with NY strip steaks for $6.99 per pound. The aisles are narrow with room for just one shopping cart. The lady at the cash register was reapplying her lipstick right before she handled my food. I asked for two bags for my items and she turned that request into a huge project. She also refused to bag my items and said that it was my job. There wasn't a long line behind me. This is also the same woman who accused me of stealing eggs from the store last year. I also agree with another review below. Triple check all food as they sell EXPIRED food at this store. I only go to this store because out of convenience. read more

Don't eat anything they package and price themselves. It's never fresh. I got the fruit mix and cheese mix and it tasted old and just odd. It's very frustrating when you buy something and have to throw it out. Also check expiration dates. I've came home with expired items on more than one occasion. read more

This Foodtown is very well situated on the border of Bayside & Oakland Gardens. The store rings of gourmet food shop, but is really a neighborhood grocery store. The deli section is smack dab in the middle of the store and their displays are not your regular run of the mill, sterile supermaket shelves. Everything just seems so neat, clean and in order, it seems highly anal-retentive, which i can appreciate. For example, if you look at a pack of individual cut spare ribs, each rib is arranged in a neat row like a mother duck leading her ducklings. Take that Pathmark and your haphazard big box merchandising! For a little supermarket like this, they have an inordinate amount of space dedicated to certain things, such as the meat section which takes up 50% of the entire back wall of the store and the beer section taking the other half. I haven't seen such a large selection of cold beer in a long time. They know who their customers are and cater to them, especially if you are a beer-swilling, carnivore caveman that shops in boutique markets. For everyday staple items like milk & bread, the prices are not too bad and in line with other markets in the area. I do like some of their prepared ready-to-cook items that I can throw in the oven, on the grill or a hot pan when I get it home without fussing with preparation. If they had a parking lot, I'd probably find myself shopping here way more often. read more

Be careful. Went to purchase some frozen food and was surprised to find the the package was soft. Looked at the thermometer in the freezer and it was over 40 degrees! Also bought a few pounds of meat that was over a month past the expiration date. This place is a public health hazard. read more

This place has a relatively good inventory system for a space so small. The noteworthy sale items for this week (09/09/2013) are the seedless grapes. They were advertised as Californian but the box says Chile. At 99 cents per pound, I hardly care. From my experience, red and black grapes are sweetest. Everything else seems rather neatly placed, even for late evening (it closes at 10 p.m. but I arrived at around 9:30 p.m. to find it quite well-stacked). read more

I attempted to exchange baby cereal ($3.19) purchased from another Food Town earlier this morning (Father's Day). The manager stated "we do not take food from other Food Towns. We are a family-owned franchise." I then asked him if he knew of another Food Town (not family-franchised owned) nearby. He said he did not. There are several things disturbing about this situation in my view. Is there something wrong with food from other Food Towns that I am not aware of? Is Food Town's Corporate Headquarters in the know of such policies? If so, do they agree/support such ideals? Is an exchange for cereal that costs $3.19, a big problem at family-owned franchises? Is there a reason a manager is not aware of other locations that are nearby? I understand he was not going to accept the exchange, but he was unaware of how to redirect me. Overall, I'm extremely disappointed with the interaction I had with the manager at this location regarding an exchange or even redirection. I went back to the same store I purchased it from and received the exchange. Also that manager seemed perplexed about the entire situation. Should you need similar services from the Bell Blvd. family-franchise owned location, please keep this in mind. read more

It's getting harder and harder to shop here. I was there yesterday and decided it would be my last time. The staff has always been very friendly and helpful. The problem is the quality and prices of the groceries. The produce is usually bottom of the barrel, a lot should be thrown away. The Deli staff is friendly but the prices are much higher than most supermarkets, I'd say at least two dollars more per pound for Boars Head products. I politely ask for my deli meats to be sliced either thin or shaved. Most often they are not sliced according to my request. PLEASE check the expiritation dates of the dairy items, especially yogurt. MANY EXPIRED ITEMS on a regular basis in this store. read more

I wandered in to browse and possibly grab a snack and beverage to bring home since I was in the area for other reasons. I normally wouldn't shop here as it's a bit out of the way for me. I was pleasantly surprised that for such a small store they had a good selection and the store was very well organized. The prices weren't too bad either for the area. Good selection of produce, meats, pre-made foods, now what impressed me the most by far was the beer selection. I spent several minutes gandering at the many beers they offer and identifying which of them I haven't tried yet and which I was familiar with but had never seen in the specific variety that this store had. This store even had some beers that my local beer distributor doesn't offer. Foodtown you have found a way into this beer lovin' ladies heart. I picked up a Woodchuck Cider which I know isn't anything too out of the ordinary in general but they had a flavor called "A Hint of Blueberry" which I've never tried. I had to try it. My husband loved it but I didn't think that the apple and blueberry combined well. I prefer their pear cider to this one. May be the balance was not proportionate but still and all I am going to come back and try something else this evening because I will be in the area again. The girl at the checkout was super nice and was smiling and waving at my toddler and I didn't wait in line for very long at all. The store was also very clean and well lit. Conveniently located on Bell Blvd., Foodtown has all your essentials. I frequent this grocery store once a while. They have everything you need in a compact space. Prices are fair, staff is friendly, and the space is clean! No complaints about this grocery store. They close at 10PM Monday-Saturday which is great. read more

I decided to check this place out after seeing it consistently pop up on every search I had looking for bottles of my favorite beers. When I dropped in, I was extremely pleased to discover that they have an excellent (albeit slightly pricey) selection of amazing brews, including Abita's Purple Haze, Left Hand's Milk Stout Nitro, Wells Banana Bread Beer, and quite a few of Ommegang's brews as well. Their other food selections seem to be very good too; one thing that stuck out in my visits was some refillable balsamic vinegar bottles they had, with vinegar on tap. This is the closest place to my house with a good beer selection, so you can bet that I'll be back many times! Definitely worth a check out. read more

This Foodtown (formerly C-Town) is a great step up from what it was. Inside the store expect to find a nice bright and vibrant grocery store with similar amenities from what was there before. The Deli counter is in a slightly odd position, usually in the corner or a wall of the store it's set somewhat in the middle - which makes navigating silly b/c you'll be moving around people waiting for their deli orders. Not so bad, but its a pet peeve. Everything is neatly organized and the store is pretty - food is fresh and that's all that really matters right? I really do not like to post negative reviews, however, I am compelled to write this one. I have previously had the misfortune of purchasing rotten produce from this store, or dairy products expiring that day, etc. I now only purchase items in a pinch from this store. Today I needed eggs. Knowing that most of their things are expired, I started checking dates. I was disgusted and appalled to see that they had eggs expired 2 weeks ago on their shelves.... I am not talking about one or 2 packages, as there were a lot. I told the manager out of fear that someone could get very sick. If you shop here make sure you check EVERY date, because this store does not value the health of their customers, they want to sell whatever they can, even if it is not quality. read more

Love the renovated market and the friendly cashiers. Better fresher produce but still not as good as the bigger chains...sorry. They can also do a better job of dusting some of their baked goods packaging by the entrance. Some of their meats dont look too fresh. Also weary about buying eggs on sale that they have stacked up in front of the fridge area. Shouldn't eggs be "in" the refrigeration? I have been shopping at foodtown on Bell Blvd. for years. It is clean , family run and friendly. There fruits and veggies are fresh and they have a good selection of boxed goods. I have found that if there was something I wanted I asked the store manager and he would try his best to get it for me. I just tried there order and delivery service. It was great! It really helped me out for my thanksgiving shopping. I prefer shopping here than the large grocery stores read more

BEWARE!! On multiple occasions, they have sold me expired food! From moldy bread to expired drinks. Check labels before checking out!

I come to this store at least twice each week and I must say that it is clean most of the time. Stacks are well organized and has a minimal number of expired food/goods that I encounter so far. I also noticed how they repack old meat products, change its plastic wrap and reduce its price to look more appealing to the eyes. The 1 star is for the women cashiers especially the Spanish ones. I am not being a racists but they are to me. They are only nice to Hispanics and White people. The manager is not so friendly too as well. I really really love this place. The staff are wonderful and it's really a small market feel where everyone knows your name. Seriously, places like this are hard to find these days. On a few occasions Ive been a dollar or two short and they just tell me to bring it next time rather than making me put something back. The owner is so sweet too and even started carrying this one item I use just because I requested it. I work with young adults with disabilities on employment skills and he even let me bring one of my clients in to help him take down the sales stickers. Great market. Great people. Great prices. Very clean, organized, well-lit grocery store. Prices are fair and on par with other local grocery stores. They seem to be expanding their selection of health foods which I really appreciate--every few weeks I notice they have added something new (cold-pressed bottled green/fruit juice, chia seeds, various nut butters, organic meat section, packaged dried fruit snacks w/ no additives, kale chips, etc). They also have a decent selection of sugar-free cookies including sugar-free oreos! Actually they have a pretty good sugar-free section in general (SF pancake syrup, various SF sweeteners, SF cookie/baking mixes). The fresh produce section is not huge, but for some reason I am always drawn to it. When I first moved back to Bayside, I was amazed at how wonderful Foodtown is. They carry alot of organic products, good quality food. However I find some of the cashiers have a nasty attitude. Not all. Some are very friendly, greet you with a smile and always tell you how many bags you have. (I usually forget at least one lol) . Whereas others act as if they are doing you a favor by just being present. Great customer service so important. I am updating my review because of an incident today that unnerved me. I grew up in Bayside, I remember when Foodtown was CTown and a kind gentleman with red hair was in charge of the store. He was always friendly and warm. However the new owner or manager of the current Foodtown leaves alot to be desired. I was in the store and was looking through my large black bag for my phone. The owner must have thought I had other intentions and for the duration of my time in the store, he seemed to be nearby. Whatever aisle I was in, he wound up in the same one. A person knows when they are being watched or followed. I can assure him that I have never shoplifted anything in my entire life and will look into other shopping options from now on. read more

So i went to exchange an expired product sold to us and when we attempted to exchange it they refused and told us that its fine to eat when the expiration date was oct 18 (today is oct 23). They didnt even say sorry about it and brushed us off like it was no problem when we could have eaten expired food that could have made us sick. This is the third time this has happed to us and this is unacceptable. From the looks of things in this store i feel like they are lazy to check the expiration dates of products and most of the products they sell are expired because they dont check them.
