i recently started taking classes here twice a week and quite enjoy the offerings from this local community college. as a two-year university, you would expect fewer offerings than a four-year university, but i think foothill does a great job in offering a wide variety of classes in all departments, from a basic level to more advanced studies. professors and instructors are quite good. one of my professors has been teaching here for over 25 years and the experience clearly shows in his teaching style and expert knowledge of the course material. there is a library on site where students can study during the weekdays (closed on weekends). there is also a student center that shares a building with the university bookstore. probably my only gripe about foothill is the parking and navigation, since i usually have to hunt for a space, circle around, or wait for other students to leave before i can get a space during peak class times. also, since there is only one exit from campus back to the main road, and there is constantly construction going on, this "exit path" is frequently congested and causes delays in leaving campus. overall, a very good junior college in a great location. read more

In regards to the two 2 star rated reviews talking about Admissions & Registration and Counseling, I've never had a problem. I thought the counselors were very helpful! It's all up to you researching about when and how you're going to graduate (which is pretty much common sense if that is what you are striving for). There's a petition to graduate form that needs to be filled out, which doesn't take that long to do. Like the quarter system and most instructors make it worth attending Foothill. Campus is clean, quiet, and safe. The staff is very helpful. One thing is you do have to walk up a hill...its a workout. They also offer night classes at the Middlefield campus. Its not so overcrowded it's just right. read more

After 1.5 years at De Anza, I changed my major to nursing and went to Foothill because it was easier to get classes there. My first quarter at FH was bleh... I was really not into the school and went home right after classes. However, the teachers were really great (if you pick the right ones). This year, I don't know what came over me, but I really love this school. The environment is peaceful and beautiful. I love going to school (I commute from east San Jose) just to see the grass and hills (weird, I know). The media lab and Kirsch Center is very nice with their PC's and Apple computers. All my classes are sciences and FH for the most part has very good teachers. Not easy A's, but definitely whatever money you're paying. One thing I don't like is the cook staff at the Campus Center. Two times I found hair on my food, one lady knocked over an entire rice cooker full of rice on the floor, and the Asian lady worker always seem to bicker with the Hispanic worker. It was just unprofessional (sent FH a complaint email about that). The cashiers were always very nice though. read more

I've only attended Foothill for 2 quarters. I think it's an excellent school. They have a great selection of classes One thing that annoyed me the most was the one-way traffic around the campus. It was particularly frustrating when you are in parking lot one and want to exit onto the freeway since you had to circle the entire school. The distance from the lot to the roundabout is very close. If you can drive backwards for about a second and make it into the roundabout, you get to exit a lot faster. However, it's still risky since there is campus police, haha In terms of foot traffic, they should really build a bridge or tunnel for students to cross the street to get to campus. Having cars yield to pedestrians all the time causes horrible traffic jams that build up all the way to the freeway ramps read more

I've been to three community colleges, so I guess you could say I'm something of a community college connoisseur. As far as instructors go, nothing special. They tend to lack enthusiasm, they are dissatisfied with their lives, they suck at teaching, and they don't really care. This is not the rule, this is the average. Some are actually okay, and then some REALLY suck (yes you, Julio Rivera). The students are of a similar attitude. They didn't get into the school they wanted, they don't really know what they want to do with their lives, or maybe they're just going to school so they don't have to go and get a real job. If you attend this school, be very selective about who your friends are, because this attitude can and will rub off on you. You'll meet students that have been going to school here for frikkin five years and they still don't know what they're doing. The campus is nice. You'll get in shape real quick - lots of stairs, hills, things are rather spread out. Counseling sucks. If you can get into the DRC program, get Bea Cashmore. If you can't get into the DRC, you're screwed. You'll have to figure out how to transfer on your own, so make sure you do a lot of good research, and don't take anybody's word for granted. read more

An awesome beautiful school. Took a library class here and really liked it but most of my units are from West Valley which I think is a better all around CC. If you want to transfer onto a UC, this school has a great reputation because it is pretty difficult compard to say SJCC or Evergreen. It is right off of 280 but kind of remote compared to DeAnza, WV, or SJCC but if you want to be surrounded by rich, white students, this is the place to be. It also has a strong online program too so if you are looking to go to class without going to class, you will find a lot here. One star off for the amazingly bad parking and the hills you have to walk up to get to class. If you are out of shape, get ready to sweat on the way up. read more

I loved going to Foothill! For what you pay for, the classes are an amazing value, the campus is gorgeous, and the equipment is top notch. I have my degree from the University of Michigan and am currently going to the Academy of Art University. I took some classes at Foothill earlier (more like a crash course in art and design) to prepare me for my MFA course, and I was extremely satisfied and seriously impressed with the courses, course selection, and facilities. The classes are easier than what I'm used to, but can definitely hold their own against schools that cost 800% more. The instructors were all really knowledgeable and I can definitely say I came away with more skill and knowledge after attending for only a quarter. For art and design students, they have a spanking gorgeous Mac lab. I'm definitely planning on taking more classes during the summer to boost my skill set, and also for fun. I'm trying to convince my bf to take some classes with me too. I'd recommend Foothill to anybody. read more

I have really mixed feeling about this place. Foothill College is very well maintained and you can tell that the community invested its money well. Unfortunately apart from that, and the freedom of some of the online courses that I took here, I mainly dislike the place for a variety of reasons. 1. The parking is terrible. There is only one main road which goes in and out of this place with two lanes. This makes the traffic crazy 10 minutes before class. And on top of that, if you park in the early lots, you have to walk up a serious incline. 2. The teachers treat you like you are 10 years old. Literally, like checking my ID before I take a test, a rubric and constant checking up on you, teaching merely by the book, and not encouraging students to learn and think for themselves. Teachers here seem to enjoy failing students. And I can say that having not ever received less than an A- in any class that I took here. 3. The counseling is non existent. I made several appointments which my counselors missed. Many times I went out of my way to take a day off from work to be on campus, and was not able to meet with anyone. 4. The administration is very unfriendly and very unavailable. I actually liked the school after taking my Java courses online, but after having to come to school and take some additional math courses, I was very disappointed. read more

This review is solely based upon the people working in the cashier's office. If you need have any problems and need to talk to them, save your time and just go to De Anza even if you don't go there honestly. Since my BOG waiver didn't process through in time, I had to pay the unwaived fee (a couple hundred dollars) for classes. Since I also go to DAn and have gone through this experience before, I thought that this money would come back to me in at MOST a month which isn't that bad. WRONG. WRONG. WRONG!! At the beginning of the winter quarter (Jan 5) I submitted my forms for a refund. I was told by the workers it would take 2-3 weeks to process. Okay, fine a few weeks is okay. 4 weeks, I thought maybe they just had a lot to process which was why mine was delayed. At 5, I went back to the office to ask them because obviously something went wrong. I asked the male worker about my refund and he said he had nothing in the system and to go to DA to check. The fact that I even had to go out of my way to DA, even though I submitted it at Foothill, shows how incredibly unorganized they are. At least they resolved my problem at DA. They informed me that they didn't get any of my refund papers from Foothill and now I have to wait another 2-3 weeks for my refund. The refund I should have gotten in 2-3 weeks.... is ACTUALLY going to take 8-9 weeks because of the incompetent workers here. You guys seriously need to get your shit together. If it was $5, I wouldn't care but this WAY more than that and people have things to pay for. read more

Out of high school, I went to a state university in southern California and knew I had to transfer to a private. Since it's easier to transfer from a cc than a state, I had to move home. CSM or Canada would have been closer but I had heard great things about Foothill so that is where I went for a year and a half... Foothill College is an amazing educational institution if you really try to get the most out of your experience there. I worked hard to maintain a 3.7 GPA but it was definitely doable, but not like those easy cc classes you always hear about. I think the most important thing is that I actually learned a lot at Foothill. When I transferred to Foothill, I set a goal of transferring to a prestigious private school by my junior year and Foothill helped me to achieve my goal. I'm currently studying full time at an amazing university in southern California and even though I love it here, sometimes I still miss Foothill. read more

I keep receiving this unfriendly vibe every time I go there. Besides that, the education is exceptional if you know what classes and professors you are looking for. Okay, I feel kinda square to be writing a review on FH but I could not help it. Mainly because I gotta show some love since this is my last quarter here =( don't worry I'm moving on to bigger and better things. Let's see I started off here summer of 07, went full time to fulfill all my requirements until being ready to transfer. I love the connections that you can make at this community college. They go beyond and above. In my case, there was always someone there that I can reach out to. Starting school and finishing it has been a challenge for me since my goal was never to go this far. Slowly, I got into each class and worked my way up to each new step. I love FH because they challenged me. I was pushed to do my best. Unlike high school where I shyed away from academics and ended up dropping out. I was happy going to school. Especially the difference in the subjects. The instructors there are great if you get one that you can relate with. My sociology professor is the best! I was challenged in her class and it took me outside of the classroom. If you are serious about learning and what you do, there is someone at FH that will help you get far. Our programs are great along with the resources. The Career and Transfer Center was my home away from home as I searched through universities that would make a great fit. They made it an easy transition. Also, our media lab is so available with the computers (Apple) and the study rooms you can reserve. Activities on campus are the best. We always have some kind of visitor, show and dj on the campus along with free food! Heritage months are the best thing ever to get involved with. Okay, I cannot forget the scenery. First quarter on campus there were warning signs for mountain lions! Now, see i'm a city girl, I don't know what the f*** a mountain lion is! Plus there's always little lizards and things all around. It gets hot but I looved it. It's real easy to get there too. Moving from DC to SJ back to DC, still made Foothill worth commuting too. thank god for 280. I love this school and my memories will always be with it. Ahh I'm getting teary-eyed. But like I said bigger and better things are coming my way. Get ready for this long and detailed review! I will tell you all the tricks and tips to successfully transfer from this community college. A little bit about my situation - I went to Foothill straight after high school. I had no idea what I wanted to do in terms of deciding a major. After completing all my general education requirements, I realized that I developed a passion for Business. From there, I completed all my undergraduate work and received my AA (associate of arts) degree from here. I transferred to a prestigious four year university saving a lot of money and meeting a lot of great friends. Commute: Foothill college is right off of 280 freeway. It is very convenient for a commuter. The busy times are in the morning to 11am, when the exits are a little backed up because all the commuters are all trying to get into the school at the same time. Keep in mind that the whole school is in the layout of a circle loop. There is only one way in and one way out. You can imagine that this can be a little tricky in the morning during rush hour when all the students are trying to get into school at the same time. Overall, the commute is not bad. There are buses that will take you through downtown Mountain View as well as other surrounding areas. I believe the bus pass is free for students. Food: The food here isn't the best but I haven't eaten here that much to really give the best opinion. I have always brought my own lunch here to save money. If you go to the Dining Hall/cafeteria, they have burritos, sandwiches like grilled cheeses, packaged sandwiches and tons of refreshments. There is also a little cafe next to it that serves coffee and pastries. It is convenient and the baristas there are quick. Perfect for grabbing a small cup of coffee before class. Their espresso drinks tend to be on the sweeter side, but their black coffee is strong. Besides that, there are also vending machines near the bookstore as well as minimal snack options inside the bookstore. The Math building also has a good small cafe that serves some snacks and coffee. There are some snack shacks scattered throughout the area, but if you are looking to feast, I would go off campus and eat somewhere else. There are a lot of great options near campus like Spot's Pizza or downtown MV (Nekter, Safeway, Counter, SAJJ). Parking: The first two weeks of school is always hectic, so I suggest coming early. After that, I have never had a problem with parking. There are always an abundant of spaces in Parking lots 2 and 3. The Math building has limited, but large spaces. My friends complain occasionally how their cars have been dented or hit, but it has never happened to me. Again, I reiterate a good tip for ya'll: Come early. Park within the lines. Be respectful and don't park like a jerk and you won't have a problem with parking. Facilities/Buildings: Some buildings are old. I know some of the buildings in the English department does not have AC. Same goes for the Liberal Arts area. In the summer, it is kinda hard to manage but some classes do have fans. They just newly renovated the library so AC works in there and everything is very clean and new. The math classrooms are also very new. They could use some few new upgrades, but it is not so bad that it distracts me from my studies. Involvement: I had a part time job so I did not really get involved with school that much. In fact, not a lot of students get involved because it is a commuter school. However, they do have a very diverse ASB (student body) and there are clubs around campus. If you are very serious about making friends, join a club! Other than that, I can't really speak for the student life on campus. Education: Of course, there are also a handful of professors that are so bad you wonder why you are even at school. And then there are a majority of them that are helpful, kind, and understanding. Some of my best professors include Jordanna Finnegan and Kirk Demlinger. I'm not sure if they are still teaching at Foothill but I can say that they are quite inspirational teachers. Here's a tip: Attend your professor's office hours. Introduce yourself. Review material with them. Share your goals and aspirations with them. Befriend them. In return, they can offer you their support and recommendation. They are your ally, asset and biggest resources. Use them! Now that I reflect back on my high school days to my point now, I can say that Foothill has given me the richest education. I've learned so much about myself and adapting to college life. 18 years old is too young for me to decide what I wanted to do for the rest of my life - Foothill was a nice transition for me. If you want to have a rich education like me, take advantage of all your resources! Go to the Transfer Center, go to Career Center, ask questions. Meet with your counselor once or twice every quarter to help you stay on track regarding classes and deadlines. Like many say, college is what YOU make of it. read more

From the Presidents Secretary to the Department of Human Resources. This is by far the worst "Community College " I have ever encountered. I had a friend who applied to work here to only get released and still not paid. I called for him and the presidents Secretary was rude told me that because I wasn't enrolled I couldn't say or do anything for my friend. She hung up on me. The Human Resources director laughed and told my friend she didn't care that he lost his job or that his mother in law died from cancer. He was a part time employee and he didn't mean anything . Is this a "Community College "??? To have such animals working here. Where even the Police Department is corrupted . The student workers don't do their job. Cry about anything , and make racial comments. I'm not surprised when I found a petition from students about how rude and unprofessional the staff in various departments are. I wasn't particularly happy when I came to this campus for the first time today. I was looking for a class, but didn't know the room number! Horrible of me, but still there was no office open on campus to help me! The campus overall isn't too big so I was able to wander around for only 30 minutes and ask around before finding the class I needed to go to. I just had a bad morning because I couldn't find the classroom for 30 minutes and I was hungry, but forgot to bring money :( It would've been nice if there was someone in the administration building to help me. read more

I have been coming here for track and bike training with Team in Training for the last three years. The track is made from a synthetic material and it's easy on the knees and joints. There is plenty of parking (for a fee), and make sure your parking receipt is displayed face up or you WILL get a ticket. read more

OK Foothill, where is my prereq clearance?? Emails and phone calls have definitely gotten better in terms of responses but I just wished I knew whether or not I can get into my courses this quarter or not. And I simply asked if my clearance is still valid for next quarter if I didn't get into my class this time around and the administration staff over the phone told me I had to wait and ask the counselor that. But this phone number is suppose to provide me with some sort of answer? Anyways, 4 stars because I dropped in for counseling and B. reassured me that I can take some courses to get ahead before entering the Vet Tech program, which is apparently madly competitive (but must cheaper and better than "Carrington/Western Career College"). The main campus is BEAUTIFUL and on a hill. I just wish I can work out some sort of carpool. Foothill college is where I chose to go after highschool. Each class I took contributed to my intellectual growth and personal development both, directly and indirectly. I learned so much about myself as a serious student because I realized I was working with serious students, and their presence motivated me to be better. This is my final quarter here before I transfer to one of the three four year universities that have accepted me in the fall, and I truly can appreciate this school for giving me the foundation for me to succeed. Not sure why all these haters are rating Foothill College with such a poor grade. Foothill has amazing professors, modern facilities and more resources than most of junior colleges in the Bay Area. I took my first class over 20 years ago and I still remember how different this college was. Last time I was there was two or three years ago and I noticed that the improvement made during the last years has been epic. Foothill College has been entirely revamped, it can fit more students now that when I took my classes. Not to mention that the entire school seems to be 200 years more modern than it was back then. I read the reviews others have left on Yelp, what are you all whining about? Go try other colleges in town and you'll see that they do not even compare to Foothill. If I was 18 again and I had to pick a community college again you can bet I would go straight to this one. I made that decision 20 years ago and I would make it again today. read more

When picking up my high school daughter after a basketball game, I parked the car, walked across the lot to meet my daughter in the gym courtyard, walked back to the car, and found a parking citation on my dashboard. On my walk to meet my daughter, I passed a broken permit ticket machine. I was in the parking spot for two minutes, for less time than it takes to find a working permit ticket machine and figure out how it works (this was my first time at foothill college), and someone managed to put a citation on my windshield. The college is clearly not a place where community events should be scheduled. Even though our group of basketball players was the only group using the parking lot and there were plenty of empty spaces, the college decided to go out of its way to make sure the community could not easily make use of the college facilities. read more

The campus is amazing...I went here 2 years ago and I have about 4 Associate Degrees from this college. I then transferred to San Francisco State University. The fees are so low here and the teachers are very good. My favorites were Davidson for Accounting and Business Law...I don't know if he's still teaching, but he was absolutely amazing. I am currently taking karate at De Anza and Foothill and Ploke sensei is amazing for karate...he gives you a great workout and you are pooped after it...You feel like sleeping the whole day and you burn around1000 calories in 90 minutes. This College is also great for it's location. I just adore everything here...I spent 3 years studying here and am still taking PE classes here from time to time...Best College in the Bay for sure. read more

I LOVE their campus. It reminds me of my alma mater UCSC. The classes aren't too hard to get into, the campus is clean, everything is well maintained, and faculty, staff, and students are super FRIENDLY and helpful (except for the few unfriendly students and staff you encounter every now and then). The tuition/fees are very reasonably priced (okay, I did got to a UC, so JC tuition to me is like dirt cheap). Their admin/reg lines get crazy long during the first week of class, so pay ONLINE. The steeps hills on some parts of the campus give you a fantastic workout (quite comparable to Cardiac Hill @ SC). Parking isn't too bad overall. This CC is AT LEAST 1000x better than it's sister school (De Anza). :) I'm just so sad that you're so far away from my work and home... :( read more

The campus is has many resources from the library to all the kj cafes that have many drink selctions to the bookstore. i wasnt even skeptical of this college when i first came because of all the stories iv'e heard from former graduates that said it is worth it to attend this college and get the full on academic experience. I'm back for one quarter to take a class in preparation for my Master's degree. It's so good to be back. I wish I could live at Foothill College! They did a lot of remodeling since I went there before, but I was glad to see they left the bamboo garden intact and for the most part suck to the Japanese architectural vibe. Awesome new chemistry wing was added as well. I also used to love the big, old spooky ghost-busters-ish library, but they are in the process of remodeling that now too. the campus is really nice and the environment is good. Parking is ridiculous, they don't have enough spots for the amount of people they allow. the machines that issue parking permits only accept 1 dollar bills and change. there is no way to get change unless you walk all the way on campus. I went onto campus to get change, came back to purchase a parking permit, instead received a ticket, when i called they about it, they did nothing. highly unprofessional. not to mention they take forever to reply to emails, its been a week and i still haven't heard a reply from them. read more

The facilities are top notch for a community college and the campus really is beautiful. I am a transfer student from a university on the east coast and I've been thoroughly impressed. HOWEVER, the administration/counseling offices have so far been very unhelpful. DO NOT bother calling if you would like some help with registration/transfer credits or anything in general as they will talk down to you in a very condescending manner. The man who answers the counseling phone is completely rude and distasteful, I was very disappointed. Its a shame that my first experience with someone at Foothill went so poorly, I would hope the school would fix this problem before they get a bad reputation, as I have heard the same from many others.
