Placerville Animal Wellness - 6/23/25: Psyche 1 day prior to her second opinion appointment with Dr. Raymond.

Dr. Raymond has saved my cat's life twice now…read more Last summer, her original vet told me to put her down. Instead, I got a second opinion from Dr. Raymond, and he saved her life. When I was calling animal hospitals back then, I was being quoted close to $2,000 a day just for hospitalization, not including treatment. Finding Dr. Raymond was honestly a blessing. Recently, I thought my cat was bloated, so I took her to her old vet because it was closer (by 3 hours). They did bloodwork and X-rays, then basically told me they didn't know what was wrong but that the prognosis was bad. The next day, I took her to Dr. Raymond and showed him the bloodwork and X-rays. He took one look and immediately knew it was pyometra and that she needed emergency surgery. No guessing. No waiting around. He knew exactly what was wrong. What really blows my mind is that I spent less on her emergency surgery with Dr. Raymond than I spent at the first vet, who couldn't even diagnose her. They even charged me for a radiologist to review her X-rays and then didn't call me back for 10 days. Ten days. Had I not taken her to Dr. Raymond, she could have died overnight. Getting that call 10 days later was infuriating. I don't even want to think about what would have happened if I didn't know Dr. Raymond. He is incredibly knowledgeable, straightforward, and genuinely caring. When other vets have missed the mark completely, he has gotten it right. Twice. I trust Dr. Raymond with my cat's life because, quite literally, he has already saved it twice. And somehow he's managed to do it without bankrupting me in the process, which feels increasingly rare in veterinary medicine these days.

We have owned several pets over the years and have been to countless vets in their lifetimes and this is the absolute best vet care team we've EVER had. We have only been local to the area for a little over a year now (moved up from Southern California) but Dr. Robinson and the team have seen us more times that I would like to admit (surgeries, potential toxin ingestions, foreign bodies, broken teeth, you name it!) and each visit has been handled with an abundance of care and compassion. Dr. Robinson is a very shoot it straight kind of doctor who knows his stuff and you can tell he truly cares about his patients. Every tech and staff member at the front is incredibly kind and I am so at ease any time we have to make a visit to the vet knowing that they will be well cared for and then some. I feel the need to call out that we have a senior dog, about to turn 12 this month and he has been able to make it this long in life following a cancer diagnosis because of this team operating and removing a huge tumor in this mouth. Dr. Robinson then referred us to a trusted oncology team to take care of the rest. Having this time given to us with our aging boy is something I can never express my gratitude fully for, they gave that priceless gift to us. Thank you to EVERYONE at Missouri Flat for all the care you have given our babies over the last year and a half!

Unfortunately yesterday everything was going fine until he had a bowel movement, shortly after he started to whine, cry and show signs of severe uncomfortableness, lethargy, it was gut wrenching to see this tiny helpless thing I already love so much be so uncomfortable. I called the vet we are meant to see and they could not fit us in but recommended veterinary urgent care and Surgery in Cameron Park. I immediately just started driving there scared for my puppies well-being. While driving I called and they were able to get me an appointment right away, basically the time it took for me to drive there. They tested us from the car for parvo (thank god is was negative) so we were brought into a room. The vet tech was extremely nice, thorough, endearing, empathetic (as I was a blubbering mess worried about my tiny 4lbs puppy) she got her report ready and brought the dr in. He was even kind and empathetic to my worry and concern. We went over everything. From the day I got him to what possibilities it could be. They gave me options, information and we picked a treatment plan after an exam of my puppy. I was sent home with medications, directions and feeling so much relief that they cared for my dogs wellbeing and how I felt as an owner. Upon leaving and check out and the girls at the front came together to chat with us, and say goodbye. We talked a little about how cute he is his breed type and then reassured us to call if we need anything or have any questions. I will absolutely be a returning customer should an emergency come up again. Completely unrelated but when I went to grab my dog from the techs arms after they took him in back to give him a couple shots I could smell her subtle perfume(it smelt amazing) as we had to be shoulder to shoulder. I politely asked her what it was and she told me. Not vet related but something small / important to me. This small kind interactions made me feel like a real person to them instead of a ticket number.

Dr. Khurmi himself was wonderful. We chose this clinic because of his reputation and were genuinely…read morehopeful it would be a great experience. Unfortunately, the quality of care he provides is overshadowed by an extremely rude and unprofessional front office staff. For about a month we left messages roughly once a week regarding scheduling our Golden Retriever for a spay procedure and never received a call back. Eventually we were told Dr. Khurmi had been on vacation, and suddenly we were able to schedule the surgery. It would have been helpful if that had been communicated earlier, but at that point we were simply happy to finally get the appointment. We chose the laparoscopic option because we had read it could be less traumatic and allow for an easier recovery. We were given a price range, and when we dropped our dog off we paid $1,783.94, which was the lower end of the estimate. When we picked her up, we were told we owed an additional $116.06. The amount itself was no big deal to us. We had already agreed to a cost range and were fully prepared to pay within that range. Out of simple curiosity, we asked what caused the final cost to land at the higher end. The vet tech immediately became defensive and spoke to us in a condescending tone in front of other clients, repeatedly stating that we had agreed to a range rather than simply explaining the difference. We never received a clear answer. While waiting, there were also other clients ahead of us who appeared surprised by additional charges at checkout, so it did not seem like an isolated situation. The discharge process was also rushed. The vet tech briefly went over the medication but did not clearly review the rest of the post-operative instructions before sending us home with a printed sheet. Nearly two weeks later the stitches are still clearly visible, so we called the office today to confirm whether they were dissolvable or needed to be removed. I had made a mental note that the instructions mentioned something about sutures being removed around 14 days, as we are approaching that timeframe and I wanted to get them taken out. When I explained that this had not been discussed with us, the staff member responded in a very abrasive tone, repeatedly insisting that we had been sent home with an instruction sheet rather than simply addressing the question. After requesting the clinical summary earlier to understand the final invoice, I reviewed it again and it actually states "sutures out in 14 days," which contradicts what we were told on the phone today. As a client and not a veterinarian, I should not have to interpret clinical notes to understand basic post-operative instructions. Clear and consistent guidance is important when you are caring for a pet recovering from surgery. I have since emailed the clinic asking for clarification and am still waiting for confirmation on whether the sutures are dissolvable or need to be removed. Based on our experience, the front office staff and vet techs could benefit from additional training in client communication and customer service. Pet owners should feel comfortable asking questions without being spoken to in a defensive or dismissive tone. After reviewing other client feedback and the responses from this business, there appears to be a pattern of defensiveness rather than accountability. Hopefully this situation will be handled differently, but based on those responses I would not be surprised if the reply focuses on defending the clinic rather than addressing the concerns raised. When you trust someone with your pet's surgery, professionalism and clear communication should be the standard, not something clients have to fight for.

Every single person I met was so kind, compassionate, and genuinely cared about my dog. You can tell they do this because they love helping animals and the people who love them. My dog had severe Stage 4 periodontal disease and was in so much pain. He needed a lot of dental work and many extractions. I had been calling vet after vet, but every estimate was far beyond what I could afford. As someone with a limited income, I felt completely helpless. It broke my heart knowing he was suffering while I was desperately trying to figure out how to help him. This clinic gave me hope when I felt like I had run out of options. Not only did they take amazing care of my dog, but their prices made it possible for me to get him the treatment he desperately needed. Even with all of his extractions, the total was less than $600, including antibiotics and pain medication. I honestly couldn't believe it. Because of this clinic, my dog no longer has to live in constant pain. That means more to me than words can ever express. Thank you for giving people like me the chance to care for the pets we love so much without having to go into overwhelming debt. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for everything you do. You truly made a difference in both my dog's life and mine. I will never forget your kindness, and I recommend this clinic with all my heart.

I didn't receive a call back (ok no biggie). Over the weekend both my husband and I sent over a Confirm appointment via our phones. I show up for the 9 am appointment and the rude AF receptionist with the coal black hair tells me that "someone" called and cancelled so I must reschedule. We did NOT call and cancel and now I have an extremely medicated and lethargic dog. I ask if we can be fit in and she says with the crappiest attitude "she has to ask in back". When she comes back with her unfriendly reply that we can be fit in, only due to my dog being medicated, she adds it will be a while and doesn't know for how long--no smile, no apology, nothing but a nasty attitude. After I left, I checked both our phones, other than my calling to make the appointment and the two confirms, we didn't not contact Sierra to cancel, but your receptionist treated us like we were lying jerks. Six years of coming to this veterinary hospital ended today.
