Been going there 30 years,numerous dogs with every ailment known to man. Current dog needs toenails clipped.Not so simple at Sierra. First they want a checkup of entire dog(guessing $100+) and then it will be"dog needs shots,rabies,parvo,heartworm ad nauseum, then blood work Im guessing". This will go from toenail clipping to $400-500 vet bill. Sierra is looking for easy money. Hard to get out of there for less than$150. Im switching to a new vet. read more

I am extremely disappointed with Sierra Animal Hospital. My dog has incurable glaucoma and depends on daily eye medication. When the pharmacy told me the prescription had no refills, I contacted Sierra expecting a quick solution. Instead, I was bounced back and forth between the pharmacy and the vet's office because Sierra refuses to accept faxes (only accepts emails which the pharmacy doesn't send), and refuses to call in prescriptions! The pharmacy was willing to fax or speak to the vet directly, but Sierra insisted the only option was for me to drive over and pick up a written prescription -- and even at 9:30 am, they can't guarantee it will be ready by the end of the day. I have to "wait" for a call that the script is ready (like I don't have anything better to do). This is incredibly inconvenient and shows ZERO consideration for clients managing chronic medical conditions, a full time job, family and a life! Their customer service has gone downhill, their policies make simple tasks far harder than they need to be, and their prices are higher than other local vets. I'll be switching clinics after this experience. read more

I made an appointment on 06/25 for today 07/01 for my dog. I asked if the vet could call me back regarding all the heavy medication my dog must take prior to her appointment. I didn't receive a call back (ok no biggie). Over the weekend both my husband and I sent over a Confirm appointment via our phones. I show up for the 9 am appointment and the rude AF receptionist with the coal black hair tells me that "someone" called and cancelled so I must reschedule. We did NOT call and cancel and now I have an extremely medicated and lethargic dog. I ask if we can be fit in and she says with the crappiest attitude "she has to ask in back". When she comes back with her unfriendly reply that we can be fit in, only due to my dog being medicated, she adds it will be a while and doesn't know for how long--no smile, no apology, nothing but a nasty attitude. After I left, I checked both our phones, other than my calling to make the appointment and the two confirms, we didn't not contact Sierra to cancel, but your receptionist treated us like we were lying jerks. Six years of coming to this veterinary hospital ended today. read more

My parents had the worst experience with this place , they were horrible !!! Not one person working there knows what they are doing. my parents took their cat in a few weeks ago (17 year old Mancoon) which at the time he had been doing very well however he started to show no interest in eating and was losing wieght . Long story short the vet did some blood work (this was on a Friday) and told my parents she would call them monday with the results!!! No ever called them and they ended up taking the cat back Friday ( one week later) They were told " sorry we forgot to call you" and that the cat was having thyroid issues and the only thing they did was gave the cat vitamin B-12. My parents took the cat home and that night he passed away. they vet had absolutely no concern for their cat..... read more

Over the last few years, this facility has become an insensitive "small institution". You will get suprise charges with the expectation that you throw down payment without question. When asked "why am I paying this extra charge nobody discussed with me"?, the drama starts. Eyes rolling, manager hiding in the hall eavesdropping, dirty looks from employees, then sticking you in a room so you can be badgered more and for what reason? Over a few bucks? Really? We were not rude. We were not causing problems. And they acted as if they were going to hold our pet hostage without "full" payment. Then later learning that our dog was in a cage for over 6 hours on an empty stomach with no water before they examined her, took the cake. After about 5 back and forths, me offering to pay what we agreed to and an hour later, they still would not let up and threatened us with collections. They even took it to the next day, by saying we will discuss further and call you tomorrow There are a few good people there still, however. The calm professional lady with long reddish hair at the front desk and some of the technicians that still truly care. The lady with the black hair at the front desk should be fired. The condescending young manager, should be fired. And the person in the back making the final decision should get customer service and compassion training. I had an unfortunate incident with my dog three years ago. As a result I was told to closely monitor his kidney health in fear of him having future issues. I made the mistake of telling this to the staff at Sierra Animal Hospital. They did complete blood panel on him and told me I was lucky I brought him in when I did.. Because he had stage 1 kidney disease. I was also told I could no longer make his fresh food and had to feed him the specialty kibble I could only get from them. I took their results to a highly respected local Vet and was explained the results in great detail. There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG WITH HIS KIDNEY'S!! I just had a follow up appointment with this NEW Vet and it is also completely normal! Shame on them for preying on people that love and care for their pets!!! read more

The vets are wonderful but unfortunately you have to deal with incompetent and rude staff. Too busy to give me information on spaying my dog in the office. So when exactly? No one ever contacted me and she's 5 months old. Once they have your money, they treat you as though you're an inconvenience. Don't fall for their bs "Puppy Program" at 475.00, it's NOT worth it and overpriced. I followed the head vet at this animal hospital from her old office to Sierra Animal Hospital for two reasons: she was good with my dog and because she understood that because I was a senior on a limited income who wanted the best for my girl, she would give me recommendations for how to save money (saying things like, "you might find this cheaper on Amazon"). She seemed to genuinely care for me and my circumstances as well as my pet. I actually spoke to her about this, telling her how very much I appreciated her attitude toward me as well as other seniors who own pets, so she knew my thoughts on the matter. But I recently took my dog in for her routine exam. After taking some x-rays she determined that my dog was suffering from arthritis, and prescribed some pills, which she supplied. I trusted her (as I had in the past) to "do right" by me. But the 1-month supply was $124.50, so I decided to see if the medication was available without a prescription online. Wow...the common cost I found online (many suppliers) was about $15-20 for a 2-month supply. I was flabbergasted. Clearly this is an inexpensive drug. Why would my trusted vet charge me several times above a fair market value price? I wrote her an email and specifically asked for a response, but it's been a couple of weeks now and I have heard nothing. It seems that her attitude has changed...money has become more important than patient (including owners) care. I am very disheartened. read more

I have 6 goat kids this year. Four were disbudded in the field by my mentor, all of which took and have hair growing over their scars. She burned a larger area on the bucklings to account for their larger buds. I brought the last two kids here, $80 each. The scars are significantly smaller on them; the doeling looks great, the buckling is growing scurs on both sides. I took him back to see what could be done. They double booked my appointment time, and even though I arrived on time and first by 10 minutes, I had to wait 40 minutes while they saw the second client before me. The large animal vet told me she was attempting to minimize the surgical scars and did not take responsibility for the regrowth. At the beginning of the appointment, she said my little guy was in the 1% of unsuccessful disbuddings that she does. By the end, she was saying only 90% were successful. She was polite and answered my questions without charging me for the consultation. She offered to do another attempt at the cost of the meds ($40). I said no. read more

I took my cat in for a second opinion and will take all my animals here. It's not that my other vet was terrible... it's that this particular vet came out to discuss my cats urinary issues with me. Since Covid. We've had to wait in the car while they bring our animals in. My last vet was very nice.. but the tech would come get my animal and bring them back. The vet would call. The last few times I brought my animals to that vet I felt like I was being upsold. Not with these guys. Doctor Kaley came out to my car to chat with me about my cat. She didn't once try to sell me on other things my cat "may" need down the line. She dealt with the issue at hand that was already expensive enough (to no fault of her own). I really felt my animal was well cared for and the seemingly small act of the vet coming to my car to discuss it with me instead of calling made a HUGE difference! You guys have me sold. Sierra Animal Hospital is simply amazing and I'm so glad we found them, Dr. Ladner and Helene especially! Both Dr. Ladner and Helene have been working on an issue with our potbelly pig for over a month now and have been so great with him, although he doesn't much care for them after so many pokes and prods. Them doing farm calls is a life saver and their knowledge and expertise is priceless. Just today, I had spaced picking up a prescription from their office, and after the farm visit, Helen out of nowhere showed up with the prescription. I don't know of any vet that has such amazing staff. I couldn't recommend them enough! read more

They were all absolutely wonderful, from the first phone call to the actual appointment with Lili and Dr. Stephens. They got us in that day and were very understanding of my dog not wanting to be around other animals. Foxy got great care and is healing well. It was not an experience I ever want to repeat, but I am glad to know which vet to go to if I ever need one while in Placerville again. read more

New ownership; huge facelift; survived COVID; dumped horrible office manager who'd been insulting clients for decades. One would think all things rosy, right? NOT. Terrible treatment of both clients and patients. Complete misdiagnosis of an egg-bound goose... how can that even happen with an X-ray? Prices TRIPLED for litter exam and dewclaws... really? TRIPLED? Am I personally paying for all the new paint, counters and floors? I know of MANY long-time clients who are leaving this clinic in droves because of similar experiences, me included. Even the staff has been leaving. (Exception: Dr Stacy is awesome; no idea why she stays, but she has no control over staffing or pricing) Stay away if you value your pet and your wallet. The Sierra Animal hospital on Green Valley Rd. in Placerville, CA. has a staff of compassion and true concern for the animals and their owners. Their immediate attention to my fur baby was beyond the call of duty. They graciously worked on him for about 20 minutes, and when letting me know the outcome, he didn't make it, they were so comforting and compassionate to me. They wrapped him in a bunting way and put him in a special box for me to bury him in. I even got a sympathy card within the next few days. My cat had an abscess that he had scratched open. I normally take my pets to Placerville Veterinary Clinic but they didn't have any same-day appointments so I called around and Sierra was able to take me at 10:30am. Unfortunately, my cat decided to find a stealthy hiding place, and as we were looking for him I realized that we would be late for the appointment. I called and let them know the situation and they said to keep them posted. We found him at 10:40 and called and asked if we made it there by 11am if they could still see us. After checking with the Dr. the staff told us they could still see him but it would be considered a drop-off and we would be charged $130 and the doctor could see our cat between appointments. I asked if it would be an option to wait with my pet or schedule a later appointment, which they said would not be possible, so I agreed to drop him off. When we checked in at 11:30, a staff member came over with an estimate for worst case scenario and I asked if the estimate included the drop-off fee. The staff member said since we previously had an appointment we wouldn't be charged. Another staff member appeared quickly and corrected her that I had already agreed to the fee and so that would be in addition to the estimate. I let them know to call me as soon as the Dr. assessed him so I could decide about treatment. We left by 11:45 and I received a call from the Dr. at 12:36 saying that she could not examine my cat at all since he was being growly and un-cooperative and she would have to put him under to examine him. I asked if I would be able to come by and hold him so she could assess him and she said she couldn't but I could speak with the tech to review options. The tech gets on and basically says the cost estimate in full would stand. I told her I would come and pick up my cat so I could get an appointment elsewhere where he could at least be assessed without being put under. She said that would be my choice but they would still charge me for the assessment. I told her the Dr. just told me she was unable to assess her and asked why would I be charged. She quickly said that she was actually was able to pick up my cat so the Dr. could do a quick check. I asked her then why the doctor had said otherwise. To which she replied that we would still need to pay the drop-off fee of $130. So basically for dropping off my cat for less than an hour to be picked up out of his carrier but not assessed I was charged $130. I can't speak to the quality of this practice but I can speak to the business ethics of it and say it's sorely lacking. I was able to get my cat the same day into Veterinary Urgent Care in Cameron Park where they were able to assess my cat while he was purring away. read more

My family has been clients of this Vet office since I can remember, so naturally when I got my first pet I chose to continue using their services. That was 7 years ago, and although I've been lucky to not have to visit often I still never had a pleasant experience with the 2-3x a year I came in. The Veterinarians themselves were always great, but the office staff and techs were always so dismissive and rude to me. And I saw them treat others the same way. My family and myself have spent ridiculous amounts of money there and I never felt good about it because of the way they treated me. Not to mention they are overpriced. With that said, I made the change to Smith Flat animal hospital, just a few minutes away. Man, I am so glad. I used to take my dog to this vet office because it is close to my home. However, the past few interactions I had with the office staff made me decide not to go back. I kept planning to write a letter to let the vets to let them know but haven't had the time so... I wouldn't have stopped going if it were one rude office staffer on one random occasion. However, I must have had at least THREE unpleasant experiences with them. I have had to stop by for a number of reasons such as: to pick up my dog's heart worm medicine, to drop off my dog's file from another vet's office (when I planned to change to the same vet but NEVER did because of this), to drop off stool samples, etc. The point is, the office staff are the people I typically saw, not the vets. They need to remember they provide a SERVICE and my dogs' services are being provided by others now. I don't want to be treated like a pain in the neck or a major inconvenience when I go to a business to spend my hard earned dollars on a service for my beloved pets. read more

All of the staff and veterinarians in this office have been amazing with our animals. We have taken in three dogs now and two cats. They are extremely friendly, explain the costs of their services thoroughly and always give you multiple options for the care of your pet. We have been going her for nearly 10 years and would highly recommend them. Recently, we have to put down one of our dogs and they were so comforting during the entire process. When you research this clinic disregard the older reviews, the clinic is under new (and wonderful) ownership. I, unfortunately, live a bit too far away for Sierra to be my regular vet, but without being a client they have been kind and helpful. Most recently, I was evacuated due to a wildfire and needed some prescription cat food. My regular vet was also closed due to the fire. The staff, and Dr Rapp, accommodated my request, even offering advice about feeding multiple cats. I love this clinic. read more

I can't say enough good things about Sierra Animal Hospital in Placerville. When my dog tore her Achilles tendon, the vets there gave excellent advice and stellar care -- a few months later, I took my dog to an orthopedic canine specialist to make sure we were on the right track for healing, and the specialist was very impressed with the x-rays, charting, and treatment. Sierra Animal Hospital rocks!! When I need them, they're there. They've squeezed me in when my dog was sick, even when they're busy. The vet has returned early from lunch to remove a foxtail from my dog's nose. The vets and staff are always super friendly, knowledgeable, and caring. They take time to explain things to you. And the rates are really reasonable. They treat you, and your pets, right. They're priceless. read more

After an unpleasant visit to a different pet hospital, we decided Sierra was the only choice for us to entrust the health care for our pets. The staff is friendly and are great about getting us a prompt appointment if any of our animals need immediate care. The Dr's are quite knowledgeable, and we always feel like we can trust their advice. It's easy to forget which service for which pet is due for. Took my dog in to get him diagnosed because he was acting funny. The vet did a 5min check up and said that he had a bad back and prescribed some meds. A few days later my pup got worse. So bad i had to rush him to the ER to get him checked out. They ran a blood test and found his real problem was a severly infected liver. So they gave us the proper medication. My girlfriend called sierra animal hospital to inform them they had misdiagnosed my animal and all they said is sorry we dont do blood tests and hung up. Dont recommend this vet hospital because my dog couldve died because of misdiagnosis and improper medication. Im glad some of you have had positive experiences but its just awful when they dont take the time to properly diagnose. Thanks all have a great day! read more

First visit was about a year ago. The Vet helped my dog. However, I have some frustrations. I had to go back for blood twice more in the last year. It seems to take days to get a refill for the medicine my dog takes. They simply don't respond to the pharmacy's request. This is a medicine that can be used by humans or dogs. It is easier to get it for my arthritis than for my dog's. When I had to take my dog in for a rabies vaccination nothing was mentioned about needing another examination. But less than a month later the Vet's office called and said I needed to bring the dog back for an examination. Then the the month after that I had to take the dog back for another round of blood work before they would authorize the a refill on the medicine. That was two weeks ago. The blood work was fine but still no prescription refill authorization. I will be looking for another Vet. read more

The girls working at Sierra Animal Hospital are very condescending and rude! I admit, I'd been warned by all my friends, but out of convenience of location, I continued to bring my animals here. I will never bring them back!I About 7 months ago, I brought my puppy in to get a shot and his nails cut. He hates his nails getting cut (as most dogs do right?) and I heard the blonde lady yelling at him in the back room to shutup. When he came out she proceeded to say in an extremely rude tone, "you need to touch your dogs paws more because he hates when they are being touched and it makes my job harder." I responded, "I touch my dogs paws all the time and he never yelps at me, I'm pretty sure he just doesn't like his nails being cut". (What dog likes their nails being cut?!? How long have you been doing your job....shouldn't you know this? Needless to say, a month later the SAME thing happened!! It was a different girl who said the snide comment, but it was along the same lines. I should have listened to my friends. DON'T GO HERE! read more
